Monte do Cardal

We had a wonderful stay at Monte do Cardal in early December. Andre greeted us at check in and he made us feel so welcome. He was incredibly helpful with his recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area. We were provided with a delicious breakfast each morning that offered so many choices, including eggs made to order and plenty of meats and cheeses. The room was nicely updated with a very modern bathroom and comfortable bed. We appreciated being able to return to such a peaceful retreat at the end of each day of exploring. If we ever get the chance to return to this region of Portugal, we will definitely look to stay at Monte do Cardal once again. The combination of close proximity to the coast and exceptional hospitality provided by Andre makes this hotel an ideal destination for a great getaway.

We loved Monte do Cardal- a little oasis in the middle of nowhere. Luxurious to have a car, but with taxis and Uber you can manage, too. Very nice compound, with gardens and pool. Best enjoyed in good weather. If you can, choose a pool facing room for a sunny terrace. We were hiking the Fishermans Trail and stayed for two nights. The breakfast was fantastic- fresh fruit, juice, varieties of bread, cake, eggs. André was very helpful upon check-in, recommending restaurants. Bicycles were also available. The room (back-facing) was ok, on the smaller side. Nice shower and amenities.

Lovely private hotel near Odeiceixe - off the beaten track which is what makes it so peaceful and serene. The turning into the hotel is a very sharp right and is one way, so you do have to go around the loop of you miss it!||I imagine this place would be perfect for a private group yoga retreat one day!||Otherwise lovely accommodation, very quiet, lovely pool area and nice breakfast. No AC in the rooms, but they do provide a fan. Luckily wasn’t too hot in the evenings when we visited.

This property is something special. The serenity and calmness hits you immediately. It's a little off the beaten track so it's necessary to use a car or taxis to get around. The property offers breakfast as part of it's room rate and this was delicious, lots of fresh cheeses, fruits, yoghurt and meats. Eggs are cooked to order. The room although a little on the small side has everything you needed. There isn't any AC but a fan was sufficient. The pool and private terrace area is stunning. A real retreat to refresh your batteries.

The service, the food, and the common areas are absolutely wonderful – everything feels very well taken care of and beautifully designed. However, the villas themselves are quite hot, with very limited options for ventilation, which makes it a bit uncomfortable. The interior décor also feels more like a cozy winter chalet than a tropical retreat. Overall, it’s a lovely place, but it is definitely on the expensive side.
