For a handful of euros, you can hop a precarious chair lift and ride it up to Mount Solaro, taking in the most breathtaking view Italy has to offer.
That is a general assumption--I-I mean I have not seen every angle of Italy. That would be...well, impossible. I'm sure someone can make a comparison between the number of views one could have in Italy with the Coastline Paradox--something involving fractals I guess. So I guess I can't say the view from Mount Solaro is the best; what I should say is that the view from Mount Solaro is...CLEARLY the best, I mean how can anyone argue with that? It helps that the day I was there, the clouds were perfectly fluffy with the proper ratio of blue sky. The sun was bright; the grass was green. It was quiet, serene. I never wanted my girlfriend at my side more than being atop of Solaro. There was a restaurant up there, but I totally forgot about it (also, thanks to the tour schedule, I didn't have time). It's the best investment one could have in Capri.
The ride up is pleasant and without danger. Some folks (Mom) might be terrified about the idea of dangling from a chair with only a single rod to prevent you from falling off, but I had no issue whatsoever. You can see every corner of the island, from harbor to harbor. It's not much of a mountain at 565 meters, so if you want to walk up and avoid the lift, you can. There are stairs--seriously. If I had the time, I totally would've tackled that challenge. I climbed the steps of St Paul's Cathedral, I could handle Solaro.
If you do anything in Capri, this is it. Do not, repeating for emphasis, do not visit Capri and not take in the chairlift to Solaro.
