Delicious, homey, well-priced, no frills Salvadoran food! We enjoyed everything we ordered with gusto. Our favorite main was the Gordita (chicken) sandwich and our favorite bite was the nuegados - chewy and fluffy and cheesy yuca bites, perfect savory or sweet - dipped in the syrup that accompanies them, or topped with curtido. The pupusas were tasty as well. We could tell everything was freshly made - from the horchata to the pupusas and fried plantains. We got 5 dishes and three drinks and the bill totaled $50 which we thought was quite a good deal - especially because we had probably enough food for another meal to take home. Our server was also very kind and patient, taking the time to explain each dish carefully when we didn't know what it was. Our only note is that the food took about 25 minutes to arrive but it was worth it and we didn't mind the wait - fun music and horchata kept us enjoying ourselves. We'll be back!!

Google
the tacos birria were good. very big, not authentic made but still really good flavor. the pupusa came cold, so I had to hear it up a bit. the pork/chicharon was good. nice size chunks. I ordered it with rice and tortillas as side orders. The horchata was tasty came ice cold.

Google
I highly recommend Montecristo! The entire staff was great! They helped us make decisions on what we should try and their recommendations did not disappoint. We tried a number of different dishes and they were all amazing. Best papusas loroco and garnachas! They have outdoor seating and plenty of street parking available. This family owned restaurant is one to try!

Google
We came around 9 AM today (Saturday) and they were open! (: The food was fresh and delicious. I asked for the ceviche without clamato and the quesadilla with only the meat and cheese (no rice or veggies inside). The service was friendly. Would 100% come back and recommend to others.

Google
Friendly neighborhood spot for delicious Mexican / El Salvadoran eats & casual dining. Last time I had the pupusa with beans & cheese, with sides. Very good & satisfying!

Google
Tasty food! Great value! Nothing else you can ask for from a restaurant! Go in hungry come out full with left over to supplement next meal!

Yelp
Seems like the best Salvadoran food in greater Boston by far. I have craved good Salvadoran food esp. the pupusas since leaving dc area and glad I stumbled upon them . Will definitely come back for the chicken stew and the rest more.

Yelp
Really good, big portions, very cheap, and friendly staff! Also enjoyed the salsa music!

Yelp
Ordered delivery. Driver called me, didn't speak English, and seemed surprised that I didn't speak Spanish. We were able to communicate with enough single words to meet up. The chicken tamale was very greasy and had a big chunk of bone in it (see photo)!? Burrito was okay, so 2 stars.

Yelp
Under new management, this restaurant has the best central american food around Somerville. If you like Salvadorean Pupusas, you should definitely try them here. They are nice and big full with your choice of beans or pork and mixed with cheese. Once you are finished, take home some great traditional desserts like Nuegados, made from cassava dipped in honey. I know, cassava with honey doesn't seem right but I can't explain it, you just have to try them. They're delicious!

Johanna N.

Yelp
This is a great place. The pupusas were the best I've ever had. The tacos birria was the best! Also delicious plantains, gorditas, beans and rice. I can't wait to try it for breakfast!

Yelp
We were looking for good Salvadoran papusas in the Boston area, and we certainly found the place for us. Delicious, cheap and a friendly staff. Ask for the home made cortido (coleslaw) and picked vegetable mix. This elevated the papusas to the next level. You could just feast on the $2 papusas, but we also tried other dishes (quesadilla and enchilada) that were of equal quality and value. Walked away stuffed for just about $10 each.

Yelp
A few big standouts: burritos are Dorado-style (which is always great), salsa has both flavor and heat (you usually get one but not both in Boston), and baliadas feel like a relatively rare find. Definitely better than some of these reviews might let you think; take-out was fast and easy.

Isaac Y.

Yelp
Montecristo absolutely deserves 5 stars--I think the lower rated reviews are just from people expecting Mexican-American food for Qdoba palates. This place is the real deal. I was so happy to see them reopen after initially being closed for COVID. If you like authentic Salvadoran food or Central American food generally, you will be very happy you ordered here. Amazing food made with love, and it's a great value for to-go. I especially recommend the Plato Montecristo or the Super Desayuno plate. Both are delicious and MASSIVE--one of these plates plus a pupusa order or two is usually enough for two people, or one person and awesome leftovers.

Yelp
Food was good. Enjoyed the platter with meat and banana and salad. Will be back. Also came with pulpusa and salad and rice. Everything was good.

Yelp
DON'T EVER COME HERE. I don't care if you are starving and this place is the only restaurant opened. It is not worth it whatsoever. My friend and I ordered here through grubhub and got puspasas, enchiladas, and tortas. They got our order wrong. Instead of enchiladas, we got hard shell tacos. Okay no big deal. People mess up orders occasionally. Before I dug into my tortas, I found a thick, short piece of hair. My friend both have long hair. I was disgusted at first but I was okay big deal. People get hair on food occasionally. But THEN I found another piece of hair in my food while eating. By this time I was okay no more excuses for them! This is unacceptable! My friend called the restaurant and told them what happened with the wrong order and hair. They blatantly told us THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH. Women! What are you talking about?! So we requested to talk to someone who knew how to speak English. She was nice at first but when we brought up the hair problem, she said I DONT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH. At this point, it was getting super shady and we were getting angry. They told us they will take care of it and asked if we wanted a refund. Before I could answer, they hung up on us. WHAT IS GOING ON?! I called a second time and the guy who delivered my food picked up the phone. I told him what happened and he too said I DON'T UNDERSTAND. I'm not even exaggerating. So this time I was really strict and told him it was unacceptable and suddenly he understood what I was talking about. Okay how do you not understand English one second and understand it the next second? I don't get it. He was like "ew that's gross. I can't believe what happened. That is so nasty". Yeah, no duh. DO SOMETHING ABOUT MAN and stop saying things we already know. After a while he told us he would call grubhub and give is back a refund. It's been 3 days and I still have yet to get an email about my refund. I spent $30 on below mediocre food. Not happy whatsoever. And not to mention, I got diahhrea from this place.

Yelp
Yummy Salvadorean food - great pupusas and tacos. Cheap, dependable, delicious! Yamahama, tasty stuff....used to live up the street from here and would zoom down Broadway, scoop up a bag o' tacos and pupusas, snatch a 12 pack of Bud from the liquour store nearby and call it a Friday night. Friendly staff. Cozy little restaurant, nice atmosphere. Can't believe nobody's reviewed it until now!

Yelp
Totally agree with Jamie S. Everything I've had here is tasty and they have very generous portions. My experience is with delivery and has been that they are quick and the food is delicious and hot when it gets to me. One downside there's a little lady who answers the phone often that doesn't speak ingles. She can get you someone who does, so no worries. The also do breakfast which are also very delicious, gimormous, and quick to arrive when delivered. PS same people run Montecristo on Huntington Ave in Mission Hill/ Brigham Circle. Equally awesome to this location.

Yelp
Salvadoran food that should not be missed in Somerville. I've never ordered delivery, but I live nearby and probably go here once every week or two. I've been to El Salvador multiple times, and the food here is entirely authentic, and entirely wonderful. The best pupusas around and El Tipico Desayuno is such an incredible mix of Salvadoran breakfast foods, you cannot miss it. The beef quesadilla is to die for, and believe it or not, a simple black coffee is better than expected. It's not a high-end or a fancy or even squeaky clean place, but it's incredible food and a comfortable local place. Enjoy!

Yelp
Ordered nachos tonight in honor of National Nacho Day. When my order was about 10 minutes over the delivery window I called GrubHub to see what the ETA would be. I go to bed early and assumed nachos would take less prep time than other foods. Plus, they're literally down the road from me. Grubhub informs me that the restaurant has asked to cancel the order because they broke some machine and it'll take too long to fix. So, after a total of 1.5 hours from the time I ordered, not ONE PERSON contacted me to tell me they couldn't fulfill the order. I'm now having toast and tea for dinner because it's too late to order from somewhere else. Thanks a lot folks. Way to make an already shitty Monday worse. Will never order from here again.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite on cinqo de mayo. No liquor! Which makes it like every other eatery on broadway. in somerville :( It's a tiny taco shop w El Salvador maps all over. And Spanish speaking soap operas on the TV. We had a combinacion de tacos w beef, pollo, and pork. Traditional (like a street-side vendor in Mexico) and quite tasty - all 3. Came with rice and beans, which were adequate. Quite a decent price. I'll definitely be back to sample more of their food.

Yelp
This place is not authentic nor Mexican. The food falls short freshly made, rather prepared earlier in the day and kept warm for consumption. Tried it and for 52 for two not impressed.

Alexandra M.

Yelp
My favorite place on the East Broadway Foodie crawl. They were serving...i'm not sure the name! Fried (?) tortilla (?) with veggies on top and home made sour cream. HOMEMADE SOUR CREAM?!?!?!? YEAH. I want to try more. So much more.

Yelp
I would rate their asada a 4, their chicharon a 4, but give their Uncle Ben's instant rice a zero. The place was reasonably priced though, and I will eat there again.
google avatar

Renée P.

Yelp
Their fajitas and plantains are amazing - hit out of the park 2 foodie crawls in a row. I am SOLD - they will most definitely be getting my business again ... this week!

Mariano A.

Yelp
Good food but the people are very shady. WARNING - the price on the menu are not what they say, they will charge you a extra $3 per meal and tell you that the prices went up. Especially to people that don't speak Spanish. Be careful guys.

Dominic L.

Yelp
I recently switched jobs, so Taqueria el Amigo isn't close by any more. I definitely needed my taco fix, and it turned out that there was a fantastic Taqueria half a mile from me in Somerville. I had tried May Sol and Taco Loco (also nearby), and was disappointed. So I figured that Montecristo was in the same lot as them. Boy was I wrong! Great, authentic tacos. You can't go wrong.

Yelp
DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!!!! 1 star is too generous! The food is awful! I'm extremely disappointed! Who puts broccoli in fajitas? The tamales were so DISGUSTING that I spit it out in my napkin! I'm so outraged by the quality that I'm tempted to call the restaurant to ask them how they are still in business and why they would allow such horrible food available for sale!?! I'm so upset that I ordered from here so save yourself the frustration and order somewhere else. ANYWHERE ELSE!

Yelp
This is the worst Salvadorian restaurant I have ever been to. My family had a party of twenty and did not order alcohol or anything that would bump up the bill, but the owner of the restaurant charged $900. They overcharged us and did not even serve us amicably. The food was DISGUSTING and the server did not want to even bring us drinks. This place is a piece of shit and will rob you for your money.

Adam F.

Yelp
This place is a hybrid Salvadoran + Mexican. Pupusas are really good and they give you a vinegar slaw and hot sauce to top it off. Guacamole was really good too. Burritos are solid but the real star was their Tipico plates (Desayuno Tipico and Tipico Montanero) - full of eggs, beef, pork chicharons, avacado, and plantains.

Dori P.

Yelp
Delicious, hearty Salvadorean food at an affordable price! We over-ordered and had chicken tamales (tender and flavorful), pupusas (fresh and delicious), a chicken torta (enormous, with awesome hot fries), a beef dish, and and shrimp dish. Everything was hot, prepared to order, and tasty. There's no ambiance to speak of, but they deliver, and if you eat there you can catch up on your telenovelas. Give it a try!

Sandra K.

Yelp
My friend recommended this restaurant to me ..I was so excited to find a place where they sale pupusas! So we made the 50 mile trip..needless to say we where disappointed! The place was small, dirty, Horchata "drink" has floating stuff in it, the food was terrible :( .will never go here again.!!!! I dnt recommend it.save your money

Yelp
If you're looking for overpriced Americanized tex-mex, yeah go across the street to maya sol. But if you want real mexican food and a good deal, this is the best place in Boston.
