Montefiore Hospital Emergency Room

Extremely disappointing experience – no empathy or professionalism. On November 3rd, I arrived with my mother at around 7:30 PM and was not allowed to go in because the ER was full — which I completely understood and waited patiently. The staff at the front desk said visiting hours would begin after 10:00 PM. At 9:58 PM, I got in line to request a visitor pass and politely asked one of the receptionists if she could help me. Instead of assisting, she questioned why I was asking two minutes before 10. When she checked the clock and realized it was already time, she reluctantly asked the security guard, who confirmed visitors could enter. She then took my ID but ignored me and started chatting and laughing with her coworkers while I stood there waiting. I hope the hospital administration reviews the security cameras from the front desk area around 10:00 PM on November 3rd, to see how visitors are being treated. There were many people behind me waiting as well. Both the reception and security staff were extremely rude and unhelpful. No one seemed to show the slightest sense of empathy, urgency, or professionalism. Once I finally entered the patient area, it was overcrowded, with patients and stretchers everywhere, barely any space to move. This hospital desperately needs to improve its management and staff training — especially in compassion and respect toward patients and families. I truly hope someone in leadership takes this feedback seriously.

This is the worst hospital to attend. The nurses are really sassy and emotional like they’re the ones in pain. I came in for a tooth ache and got screamed at because there were five rooms and only one doctor. I just asked how long it would be and for some pain medication. The United States is really working against us especially In the medical field. These nurses are mean and don’t understand the pain and conditions people come in with I ask the universe the nurses experience the same treatment they give to others. That karma gets them cause watching someone in pain and purposely adding more mental distress is insane.

As someone who has a chronic medical condition, has been to several different emergency rooms in nyc, and is a nursing student, I pay extra attention to the staff and hospital attitude and function overall. Tonight I had to go take my mom after urgent care sent us to the ER and even though the ER was packeddddd out, I think this place is truly remarkable. The staff is so kind and caring and try to do their best with care and explanations, given the unfortunate and unreasonable patient ratio they are forced to work with. The hospital was pretty clean, which I was impressed that they were able to upkeep with the amount of patients flowing through. They also have an extraordinary amount of beds. Every other ER makes patients sit in chairs when they are overflowed but this hospital made sure 99% of patients had beds. Nurses were so caring that even the ones who aren’t assigned to you will check on you if they have the chance to and make sure you are okay and comfortable. Someone else’s nurse came by to move my moms bed and she also brought her 2 pillows so she could be more comfortable. I went to the bathroom and when I came back I saw that she had come by for a third time to bring a chair for me to sit next to my mom. How sweet. There were barely any doctors working but the doctor made sure that when it was our turn he listened to all of our concerns and gave us the attention that a hospital with a fraction of the amount of patients would never do

Very nice looking ER the staff was great upon arrival. But I felt push out of being helped sent home in the same pain huge kidney stone swollen kidney. After the meds they gave wore off I am back in so much pain. I'd rather be in active labor. And they tell me that I have to take antibiotics which is false. I don't have any infection that requires that much antibiotics. Clearly I am old black and poor so they left me in excruciating pain. It's unacceptable.

The nursing staff was helpful and attentive, and I appreciate their care. Unfortunately, the experience with the attending physician was highly unprofessional. After waiting several hours to be seen, I expected a clear medical explanation and discharge instructions. Instead, the doctor made sarcastic remarks about insurance and personal spending, which were inappropriate and irrelevant to the patient’s condition. No clear explanation of what happened medically was provided. The long wait resulted in no meaningful guidance or reassurance. Additionally, as he was leaving, the doctor blew an air kiss and said, “Don’t do this again.” This behavior felt dismissive and unprofessional. Patients come to the hospital for medical care and clarity not sarcasm or gestures that undermine the seriousness of the situation. The medical monitoring itself was adequate, but the physician’s conduct and communication were unacceptable.

Went to the ER yesterday on the advice of my PCP, due to a previous abnormal lab result. Initial contact with triage was excellent. However, as time progressed I noticed how some nurses and a few doctors, ignored patients concerns. Then it happened to me, a nurse by the name of Deysi, didn’t believe my concerns were valid and I watched her communicate that to the new nurse upon shift change. Her facial expressions and body language were effectively different in how she related another patient’s information. Discussing patients case details in an open area directly in front of said patient’s is beyond unprofessional and creates an untrustworthy situation. I confronted the new nurse about why I wanted to leave and what I had just observed. She tried to gaslight me but my discernment knew better. As a patient I wasn’t surprised by the treatment received. As an advocate, I’m disappointed and disgusted at how these two professional women treated another woman in need. Silent heart attacks happen; mainly to women.

My ER Visit – Saturday, October 18th, 2025 I went in for pain on Saturday, October 18th, 2025. I’m writing this now feeling a bit more regulated — medicated, showered, and fed. I want to take a moment to shout out the amazing team who cared for me. I won’t include names to respect their privacy, but I hope this feedback reaches them. • Young lady who drew my blood – Light-skinned with a head wrap. You’ve got this! You were so kind and self-aware. • Doctor – Straight hair, wearing a Columbia sweater. You explained everything clearly, were polite, efficient, and discharged me — gold medal for that! 😂 • Nurse – Brown-skinned woman with a silk press. So kind, gentle, and efficient. Thank you for your care. • Nurse – Light-skinned woman with individual braids, tall. You checked on me often and handled everything you could right away — I appreciated that. • Doctor from Oregon – You made me feel truly seen. I have other medical issues, and you validated my concerns. You were professional, thoughtful about consent, and went above and beyond to make sure I was properly diagnosed. 🦄 • Nurse – Caribbean woman with brown skin, cornrows in the front and box braids in the back. Ma’am, you are a ROCKSTAR! You got things DONE, kept checking on me, set boundaries when needed, and even gave me some much-needed comedic relief. 🤎 It’s often said that people of color in these communities and hospitals don’t always feel like they receive adequate care — but tonight, I felt the shift. This team is truly working hard to provide excellent care, and I saw and appreciated every bit of it. To anyone heading into the ER: I know it’s tough to think about being polite when you’re in pain or uncomfortable, but please try to be kind. The folks working there are genuinely giving it their all. I didn’t have anyone specific to share this feedback with, but I wanted to make sure it was said. Thank you! 🤎✨

My husband had a severe kidney pain, and we decided to go to a nearby hospital. When we arrived, I was quite surprised because there were no patients waiting in the emergency room; everyone was already inside, either in their beds or seats, receiving care. The wait was not too long or stagnant, as we were constantly going through different procedures. From the moment we arrived, we received excellent attention from a caring staff, always attentive to us and very respectful. I felt comfortable with them even though we didn’t speak the same language. The hygiene was impeccable: I never saw anything out of place, the floors were always clean, and everything was very organized. I definitely recommend it!
