"Art and HIstory at Montego Bay Cultural Centre One of the newest and most exciting additions to Montego Bay is the Montego Bay Cultural Centre. Located in the heart of the historic Sam Sharpe Square, in a renovated former civic center, it houses a museum and an art gallery–both are the western branch of Jamaica 's National Museum and National Art Gallery in Kingston. The center opened last year, in an effort to preserve cultural heritage, and features an informative display of Jamaica's complete history and timeline, as well as period artifacts from the Taíno days to the slavery period and postmodern Jamaica. The first of the museum's rotating exhibits was on the Rastafari culture and lasted a year."

I loved this centre. It was great having the guide show each exhibit. He shared lots of knowledge on the history of the island and the exhibits. Also very engaging. The artwork in the gallery was lovely as well. A beautiful building.

Very clean and I love that we could take our time and tour on our own and take photos. Lots of attractions will sometimes not allow photos and that’s not nice because my view is that an attraction site needs your personal collection of photos for memories lol. Very budget friendly and a perfect date idea for those who are more introverted and like the arts and history. It may be boring if these things are not your thing but for me it was absolutely amazing

An amazing display of the Jamaican uprising and fight for freedom. Paid a small fee/donation to enter the self guided tour. Observed the historical relics that were saved over time that showed what the Jamaican people fought hard for in there chase for emancipation. Across the hall is a historical documentation of the Rastafari movement and its origins. Beautiful colors, pictures and video that depicts the movement and its trails and tribulations over time. Wonderful museum and display of the historical history of the Jamaican culture, history and people. Worth a visit!.

Essential visit to gain an understanding of Jamaican history. Few artefacts, but lots of panels to read with detailed information and a separate hall about Rastifarianism, of which I knew little and was glad to learn more. The art gallery was closed when we visited.

Montego Bay Cultural Centre is located downtown bustling Montego Bay overlooking Sam Sharpe Square which is quite relevant. There is a small admission fee, this former courthouse and former council offices now house Jamaican past, it is a museum to Jamaicas past and depicts Jamaica origins and Jamaican fight and discovery by Christopher Columbus though to Slavery and the horrific way slaves were treated and many died, it charts the abolition of slavery, Sam Sharpe was prevalent in this, it charts the afterlife and struggles to what is now independent and tourist attraction and destination Jamaica, there is lots of art and artistic items of great interest and value. In a separate section is the Rastafarianism, it’s origin from Ethiopia, it’s rise in Jamaica, the lifestyle, its path in music, it’s leader Haile Selassie and it’s growth around the world and the persecution of Rastas, it was definitely an eye opening experience. If in Montego Bay this is definitely a place to visit and immerse yourself in Jamaican history which is interesting and the aspects of Jamaican life and culture.

Nice Museum located in the middle of Montego Bay town. Has a lot of information on Jamaican history and the arts. The arts area is separate form the historic area which I think is good. I think the Art area could have more information and history but the historical area was great with informatuon and it had a great collection of historical artifax etc...gift shop has nice stuff but I don't think they showcase it well. Prices are average and they do a local rate which is great. Overall definitely somewhere to visit if on the area.

I went inside the cultural center for many purposes, the most important being seeking relief from afternoon heat..lol.. The purchase items in the gift shop were reasonably priced. There were some galleries under renovation but for the admission price and wealth of information, I was happy with my visit. I learned about Rastafarian culture and religion here, something that I was very curious about while on my travels in Jamaica. The history exhibits were interesting as well, I didn't know much about enslaved history in the Carribean. Outside the cultural center there is a square, great for people watching and juicy jamaican patty purchases.
