"Strolling Along Monteliusvägen To escape crowds and get some fresh air, you can stroll along Söder Mälarstrand on secluded Monteliusvägen (Montelius road) with marvelous views of Lake Mälaren, Gamla stan, Riddarholmen, and the City Hall on Kungsholmen. Despite ongoing construction in the area, you’ll still enjoy some of the best panoramic views of Stockholm ."

Yelp
It is a quarter-mile walking path with views of Lake Mälaren, Stockholm City Hall, and Riddarholmen. There are some benches for you to sit down, relax, and enjoy the views.

Yelp
So I came across this page for Monteliusvägen when a fellow Yelper friend of mine posted photos and I thought to myself, how did I miss that? Well, besides the fact that we didn't take proper measures to get internet during our stay since we relied on our cousins to do that, all I did was check-in to areas with my spotty internet and didn't think of checking in to the actual town. Well, here I am, five months later with a few shots from some of the most beautiful views I captured during my visit to Stockholm. Monteliusvägen is a gorgeous walking area about a quarter-mile long that shows gorgeous views of historic buildings, the glistening water and gorgeous homes and businesses surrounding the area. We arrived to the country at a good time during the summer, although they are known to have sudden changes in the weather in the middle of the day where it'll begin raining with thunderstorms out of nowhere. This day in particular served us well. One of the pictures was taken from the water because my lovely uncle and cousins gave us a tour around the city with their boat. It was a magical experience and I could not stop taking photos. If you visit Sweden and want to avoid the cold, visit during July (when they celebrate Midsommar) or August...just bring an umbrella.

Yelp
This is a must stop while in Stockholm. It is a quick walk from Old Town with great panoramic views and is definitely one of the most "Instagram-able" spots we visited while in Stockholm. If you are going at sunset, go a few minutes early so you can get a good viewing spot.

Yelp
This is a great stop while in Stockholm. It's off the beaten path, but it has great views and is close to Skinnarviksberget which has great views as well. This is a little dirt trail that runs along some back yards. It's not very long, maybe a quarter of a mile or so. There are good views all along it. They also have some benches so you can stop and enjoy the view. It's easy to walk to from the subway station. You won't find this in many must see in Stockholm lists, but I think it's definitely worth checking out and spending a bit of time strolling along.

Yelp
Monteliusvägen has some of the most beautiful views of the amazing city of Stockholm, the pasel coloured houses, buildings and hotels along a stretch which goes along Lake Mälaren, this provided great views from my nearby hotel, Hilton Stockholm Slussen. There are plenty of restaurants nearby as well as metro services, while it is also a short walk or one stop on the subway to Gamla Stan (Old Town), of which might be talked about more but I really do prefer Monteliusvägen, again as I said in my review for the city as a whole be sure to avoid the area during the Stockholm Marathon and Half Marathon as it can become a complete hectic horrible nightmare. 4*

Yelp
You have to visit this place because it has gorgeous views of the city. I also wish I came here at night because I heard it was beautiful and has amazing night photography potential here. From this point you're a couple hundred feet above sea level and you get a beautiful panoramic view of Gamla Stan (Stockholm's old town) and beyond. There is some water before Gamla Stan so it gives you good spacing so you can really take a step back and appreciate the beautiful city in front of you. I love the pastel colours of the city and the old consistent facades of the buildings of the old town. It's very picturesque as well with the churches petruding over the buildings. It's also pretty quiet so you can relax and here the energy and liveliness of the city in front of you and all around you!

Yelp
Wow. This is hands down a must-go/see when in Stockholm! Monteliusvagen offers a stunning panoramic view of the city. It's easy to find and worth the journey from wherever you're staying! We came just around sunset and the view was awesome. Definitely one of the highlights of this trip - a really great spot for a photo op! I'm sure it would be beautiful at night time too. Highly HIGHLY recommend :)

Yelp
This is my favorite spot in Stockholm any clear summer day, evening or warm night, hands down. Along Monteliusvägen, Montelius road - but is really a walking path, you can make use of any of the benches to marvel at the panoramic views of The City Hall (Stadshuset) on Kungsholmen, Riddarholmen (where the big church is) next to Old Town and most of all Lake Mälaren. Easiest way to get here is to walk from Slussen or Mariatorget subway station. After a steep walk up Mariaberget you are there.

Yelp
This is where you need to go for that unbeatable panorama view of Stockholm - there simply isn't a better place for that. My Lonely Planet had suggested that this was a scenic walk along the water's edge in Sodermalm, but I was unprepared for just how good the vistas were from here. It's not the easiest to find, even with the map and Google Maps on hand - a winding walk from Hornsgatan brought me to a giant metal walkway in the air, accessed from up a hill, but that wasn't the start of it, so don't get fooled like I was. Just along from there is a metal nameplate, written in an old font, pointing you in the right direction. A short amble down the path soon brings you to the first of a series of viewing areas, gently descending down the hillside towards the steps that take you back down to the water's edge. Each one of these offers simply stunning views across the bay towards Riddarholmen and Gamla Stan, uninterrupted by other buildings or lamp-posts. It would be very easy to spend at least an hour here, if not more, just drinking in the views and gazing from left to right. If you're in Stockholm and it's not raining, then you absolutely must visit Monteliusvagen. It would probably still be worth it in the rain.

Yelp
A short walk from the city and then you get to see an amazing view on Stockholm ! It's perfect at sunset or late afternoon on a sunny day. There are some benches, people reading, some people taking tons of pictures (=me) but it was not at all crowded. Oh and did I mention that the view is spectacular ? :-)

Yelp
One of the sweet-spots of Stockholm that can be a bit tricky to find... When people come to visit me in Stockholm, I always try to take them for a walk from Mariatorget to Slussen by Monteliusvägen. It has awesome views of the whole city and the scenery if quite romantic. The walk is scattered with benches where you can pause and just watch Stockholm. Personally, I like the view best at sunrise, the depth-of-field is incredible, but mid-day duriong the hottest summer days is another favourite.

Yelp
A stroll down Monteliusvägen is a must for all of us at any time of the day and honestly, nighttime too. For my part I could very well imagine to live in a tent up there, if admitted. And it´s just not the walk itself. Connected to it are a number of small parks memorizing some important artists. Won´t reveal anything about the view. This is Stockholm and right in the middle of it. See you there!

Yelp
Definitely worth the visit for a gorgeous view of the city. Came here in the middle of winter. I can imagine the experience will be much more pleasant during the height of summer. Though upside of visiting during winter is you can catch the sunset (if it's clear) pretty early in the day - downside is it'll be damn cold and you may not want to stay too long. It's an easy walk from the Old Town and plenty of stops along the way if to get a drink and warm back up.

Yelp
Yelp, oh Yep, thanks so much for listing this place. If you look at Google Maps it's not very difficult to find it. Just walk along Bastugatan carefully and look for the signs. We came on a winter morning, and it snowed the night before. It was so beautiful. I can't imagine how beautiful Gamla Stan looks in sunny summer days.

Yelp
Definitive Stockholm must-see! This place is so magically beautiful it's impossible to describe. Pictures barely make it justice. There's bars at both ends of it too.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Amazing views! If you use google maps it's easy to get to. The views are sprawling and I visited on a clear day which made it great for photos. One of the best spots I've seen in the area.

Eddie H.

Yelp
This is one of the best views in all of Stockholm (and it is free). Many of the locals here either did not know this place exists or at the very least were surprised I found this place on my own. You can get some great panoramic shots here and chances are there will be few people/tourists here. There are a couple of benches here so bring a snack or some wine and enjoy the view.

Thibaud R.

Yelp
Somehow a bit tricky to find as mentioned before in the comments, yet definitely worth the search. On a sunny day we came here and just chilled out on the many benches that you can find around. Perfect view, not crowded, just one of those places that you look for in cities!

Yelp
A must see on any Stockholm visit. Lovely views, very cute surrounding area with pretty buildings and hilly terrain.

Yelp
A must see in Stockholm! Be careful during winter time with the ice.

Yelp
One of the best viewpoints in Stockholm. It overlooks the Old Town and Norrmälarstrand. Excellent place for a romantic strol or to intruduce a visitor to Stockholm.

Yelp
Great view, benches and a nice area to relax. The pictures speak for themselves. Pick your favorite time of day and head up for the view!

Yelp
wake me - i had the idea for this song in hamburg germany and was going to stockholm the next day. having an idea for a song is irrelevant compared to actually having a song. i get ideas all day but rarely do they actually turn into songs... the idea in germany was this vague concept of wanting to be sad with someone instead of away from someone. it struck me as a modern version of romance. a realistic one. like, id rather be sad with you than away from you - cause sometimes thats what it comes down to. got to stockholm the next day and had a session with patrik berger which i assumed would be to work on some major dance music. got there, started singing the idea..... this slow ballad just came out. the "can't believe i captured your heart" line just fell out while i was trying to explain the idea.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. I read reviews on Tripadvisor and decided to visit. Took T-Bana from Centralen to Mariatorget. Then walked about 10 minutes up the street and few steps. You would end up on a hiking trail along the hill with the best view of Stockholm. A panorama picture of Stockholm is a must from this location. Highly recommended.
