A Scenic Pilgrimage to Monte Maria – Tips for a Better Visit
If you are planning a trip to the Monte Maria Pilgrimage Site in Batangas, preparation is key to enjoying the experience. To avoid the massive weekend crowds, we decided to leave Manila at 4:30 AM. Arriving at 8:00 AM was the best move we made, as it allowed us to explore before the site became packed with people. Another major reason to arrive early is the weather; by noon, the sun becomes scorching and there is very little shade to protect you while walking around.
The site offers various package deals for those who want to see every attraction, but we found it more practical to pay for individual access. Since we were short on time and only interested in specific spots, we chose the famous Miracle Glass Walk for ₱300. My wife also decided to try the Rainbow Glass Ladder, which was just an additional ₱100. We finished our tour at the Mirror Deck, which is a steal at only ₱80 per person. These attractions provide stunning views and are definitely the highlights of the site.
While the spiritual atmosphere and the views are worth the long drive, there are areas that need serious attention. The site is currently still under construction, so be prepared for dust everywhere. More importantly, the maintenance is lacking. Despite the facility being relatively new, it already looks quite old in places due to poor upkeep. The restrooms (CRs) were unfortunately filthy, which was a disappointment for such a popular destination.
In summary, Monte Maria is a beautiful and affordable destination that is worth the trip from Manila, provided you go early and set your expectations regarding the ongoing construction and maintenance issues.
