"“Beachfront” is often hype, but the front-row view of the ocean, just a few feet away from the lobby through floor-to-ceiling windows, is a drop-dead stunner at the Monterey Beach Hotel. So is its restaurant, The Lantern Room, and the ocean view from many guest rooms, where the roar of crashing waves seeps inside your soul. The location in Monterey city isn’t a short walk to the historic downtown or Cannery Row, but the lure of sofas and fire pits on 600 feet of sandy beach at the county’s only beachfront hotel is tempting indeed. Taste Monterey wines in two, four, or eight-ounce pours dispensed from a self-serve station in the lobby lounge, abuzz with guests (and happy dogs) of the low-slung hotel, which just emerged from a stylish refresh." - Sharon McDonnell

Great rooms and location, but... hidden fees absolutely everywhere! Prepare to spend an extra $110 a night on average just for parking, taxes on parking, "destination" fees, facilities, on and on. None of this is clearly stated upfront until you're already there. We will not be returning to a Marriott hotel if we can avoid it as a matter of principle. There's no reason not to be transparent about this except to trick people. If you don't care about this kind of thing, the location is great, and the rooms are nice. They're clean, but the doors are so thin you can hear nearby traffic all night, and every word of hallway conversations.

Beautiful rooms with everything you could need. Coffee, fridge, comfortable intentionally and well decorated rooms. Plenty of beautiful places to comfortably lounge inside and out. Heated pool (it was a February visit and was a quick dip) saunas were not running. The beach access and views was phenomenal.

This remodeled hotel has a lot of potential but it does need work. The location is amazing since it is directly on the beach. The rooms are small with very small bathrooms. Would highly recommend getting an ocean view room since that makes up for the size of the room. You hear the waves crashing from your room even with everything closed. Bed is comfortable and plenty of towels are provided. Towels are thick. Nice tv that offers casting. Now to the things that need improvement in the rooms. Our room was clean but had a very bad odor. Housekeeping was gone so nothing could be done. Front desk did offer us another room but after a very long drive, we were too tired to move rooms. No vanity amenities are offered like Q-tips, makeup remover wipes, etc. Robes are not provided which would really help if you want to use the pool or spa. We did not get housekeeping during our stay. I was very disappointed to find our room in the same condition that we left it after a very long day out. The front desk person apologized and comped our parking fee. The parking fee is $45 which seems a bit excessive. |We booked this hotel because it had electric vehicle chargers but cars were just left there after charging was completed so we had to go to an EV charger somewhere else and pay to charge. |Restaurant was very good with great views, good food and service. Prices are on the high side. |Gym was very nice with plenty of equipment and even Peloton bikes but no water provided. |Lots of fire pits offered. Overall, a nice stay.

Sheevani was amazing from beginning of our stay until the end! We came in early because of business travel and Sheevani was very informative and even was able to check us in a little earlier than expected. She came to our group while we were doing work in the lobby and handed us our room keys along with free wine cards. Service was amazing! Julia, one of the room service employees was very friendly as well and each time I saw her in the hall she asked if there was anything I needed. Love the remodel and hoping to bring our whole team to this hotel for a business meeting!

If you book on Expedia there is no mention of a hefty parking fee. The room we stayed in for 5 nights was average. Very thin walls. The amenities in the rooms need to be improved. An addition of a microwave would be very helpful! The bed and pillows are very comfortable. The bathroom is tiny but functional. Some rooms have no tubs. The direct view of the ocean from the lobby is wonderful and the best part. Staff is accommodating overall. They could slow down when explaining the offerings at check in. Kimberly at the bar in the lobby is a gem. The bar is a lively atmosphere and offers a nice choice of food and good libations. They offer wine cards for free samples. My son had to explain the wine machine as it confused many. The gift shop is overpriced and not worth it. Many guests bring their dogs of all sizes here so if you don’t like dogs that’s important to know. The restaurant has a decent menu with many variations and locally sourced foods. There is a fitness center and a pool. It was too chilly to swim but looked nice. The fire pits lit at night are a welcome addition. Hotel is Convenient to all areas of Monterey. Best to visit in the warmer months! Less parking fees and more amenities in the rooms and a coffee area in the lobby would add another star.

One of the only beachfront hotels in Monterey, this has prime beach views that are amazing. Waves come right up to the hotel bulwark, really enjoyable to work from my hotel room overlooking the ocean. I HIGHLY recommend booking the oceanfront room, you’ll be glad you did. Sophia from housekeeping was so warm and friendly and always took time to chat and help in any way. Be sure to stop by at the bar and say hi to Erika, great bartender with a killer old fashioned. The front desk staff were also very friendly and accommodating. The hotel has a large, clean fitness center which was a nice touch. The only negative was the $40/day parking fee, which I think is unnecessary for the location. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for the views and accommodations.

New. Nicely decorated. Modern. Quite small. No desk to work at. I have never seen that in a Marriott property. Room with toilet and shower very small. Great bed. Very nice sink area. Beautiful view and location. Overpriced. The power went out the night we were there for almost for hours. No great either. Staff left the impression this happens.

Stepping out, you’re immediately greeted by rolling waves and golden sand. That’s the best thing about this hotel. Other best things are the location, the swimming pool, the outdoor shower, and the fire pits near the water. Is this hotel worth the price? Mas o menos. Walls are thin so that at night you can hear the party people yelling and screaming. No microwaves in room. Parking here is $40/night. Overpriced bitter coffee at The Lantern $6+tip. Pro Tip #1: save your money and go to pacific grove instead for breakfast. Pro tip#2: when you book ask for an ocean facing room. Do this early.
