Incredible spot. New, clean, spacious, and well-designed. The facilities are as nice as I've seen in any hostel I've been to, and I've been to several. The staff was super accommodating, and the owner was especially kind. So much to do in the area, and staying at this hostel is a great way to experience a place like Monterey on a budget. 10/10 would recommend!

This place rules. We stayed here in 2018 and it was great. We stayed again in Sept. '25, and it was amazing. The team who remodeled the place did a stellar job. The staff were kind and attentive without being overbearing. Fellow guests were super respectful. The kitchen area was spotless, even after seeing a dozen people use it during our stay. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, to the point where my wife looked up not only which company sold these blankets, but which detergent the Monterey Hostel uses. It's walking distance to Cannery Row, and a quick drive to downtown Monterey. Great value for an inexpensive, but delightful stay.

I had such a great experience! My friends and I were roadtripping and camping along big sur and when it started raining and we were losing daylight we were scrambling to find a place to stay. For the cleanliness, services, and location the price for a private room was more than reasonable. We walked around cannery row at night and there is so much to do, especially in walking distance was also a huge plus!

An absolutely fabulous experience on all aspects. After staying around the world at many many hostels this is probably the top three in the world I've ever stayed at. The kitchen is super awesome the bedrooms are very comfortable the bathrooms are cleaned and nice and I really couldn't think of anything that could make this hostel any better!

Incredible location to everything! Short, 5 minute walk to Canary Row and a few more minutes to all the seals. The Old Wharf is then a few minutes further. The hostel is very clean, friendly staff and nice sized rooms. Beds were super comfy and the kitchen had everything. Would definitely stay here again!

The Monterey Hostel was probably the most comfortable hostel stay I’ve ever had! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook, the beds were comfy, the bathroom was clean! Ryan and Shelby were very friendly, they were relaxed yet professional. Our fellow travelers at the hostel were open, communal, and kind. The hostel also has a small propane powered fireplace. We huddled around it, made s’mores, and talked. It was a great stay :)

Absolutely loved my stay at the Monterey Hostel. This is by far the cleanest and most charming hostel I’ve ever stayed at, and I’ve stayed at many! The staff is super friendly and helpful, the beds are comfy, and the hostel is perfectly situated. It was the perfect home base to explore the central coast and I already can’t wait to come back.

Yelp
Very clean, cozy, and welcoming hostel! 10/10! It's nice they have their own parking lot which is $10 from Thursday - Sunday. Outdoor hangout / seating area with a bbq grill! Hostel is very clean and well maintained. Walking distance to many things including the beach. They are dorms and private rooms. The kitchen has lots of cooking tools, fridge and pantry space and a "free" bin of food from past guests. It's nice they have free earplugs, a calendar of free events or nearby events. Large family style table by the tv and an area to casually hangout. Love the environmentally conscious awareness throughout. They had soaps and toiletries if you need it which is nice. The bed was comfortable and other guests very respectful of quiet hours. Bathroom and showers are in each room which is very nice and feels luxurious compared to other hostels. Overall a lovely family friendly hostel, great location, well decorated in plants and beautiful art. Starbucks and other food just walking distance.

Yelp
We had the best time at the Monterey Hostel. Our family has been visiting Monterey for roughly 30 years and this was our first stay at the Hostel and could not be happier with our experience. We wanted to be close to everything and boy were we. We walked to the aquarium. We could walk to almost every activity we had planned over our time in town. Fantastic place, great for a large group, family, or a solo traveler who's budget minded. The staff was super helpful and the space is bright and cheerful.

Yelp
This nonprofit hostel just recently reopened this year in March. I paid about $80 for a shared for bed dorm that had a bathroom outside of the suite. Parking is an additional $10 on certain days so check the website to see which days you can park free. This hostel also offers a day pass option for $20 which includes free parking. Overall, besides the snoring roommates and the fact that they don't have single sex dorms, I enjoyed my stay . I had to use the free earplugs, but unfortunately, they didn't work that well. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable, and overall the place had a good vibe. Bonus points for being walking distance to Starbucks as well as cute antique stores and a grocery store that stays open till 11 PM. This place is also walking distance to a lot of common sites in Monterey as well. Pricey ( but the cheapest accommodation on the area by far ) but I would come back if I needed a place to stay in the area .

Yelp
Wow, what a hostel. It's nice and new, so now is the time to come. It doesn't have that... "many people have came through and havent' showered smell", because this is so new. I rather give my money to this non-profit hostell then pay for a for-profit hotel somewhere else. Convenient. Nice people all around. I left a toothpaste, some snacks, and pens here - pay-it forward. I have a good job now, and can afford more expensive places, but I still appreciate, the humble hostelling experience. I did book my own room, so I'm not socializing that much. Keep on going, and I'll be back!
