Marriott to Give Vacation Rental Guests Access to Resorts - AFAR

"Guests staying in nearby Homes & Villas rentals can use the hotel's pool and Jacuzzi and receive a 50% discount on valet parking and 20% off dining for bookings through the pilot period; they can also arrange a private dining experience in their rental prepared by the hotel's executive chef, who will come to the property to create the meal." - Michelle Baran

We recently stayed for four nights, combining business and a bit of fun, and had a wonderful experience. Upon check-in, Joshua Sanchez recognized that we had two separate reservations and went above and beyond to coordinate our stay so that we could remain in the same room the entire time. His attention to detail set the tone for a great visit. ||The room itself was excellent - a great view, comfortable, clean, and well-appointed. We were also pleasantly surprised with a thoughtful snack plate and a bottle of wine (thank you, Joshua!) during our stay, which made us feel truly valued as guests.||This hotel’s location is outstanding. It’s right next to the conference center, making it perfect for business travelers, and also within easy walking distance to many restaurants and Cannery Row.||Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely choose this hotel again.

We always stay at Marriotts when we travel in US overseas for business or vacation. We usually have a positive experience. NOT THIA TIME! We noticed a bad odor in the room upon arrival, tried to open a window or the sliding door to allow fresh air inside the room. The sliding door was locked and the windows did not have opening option. The fan was running and I became concern without fresh air, we might be breathing the air that circulates throughout our floor and we might be breathing the air coming from rooms with guests who may have illness. That was proven to be true once we got home after spending 2 nights at this hotel. I was diagnosed with COVID 3 days after returning home. I have never had Covid before. In addition, the only item on the breakfast buffet I could eat was a piece of whole wheat bread, a carton of milk. The coffee tasted old and bitter, the water melon was sludgy, other fruits were old and I do not eat any white wheat products due to its cause for diabetic and cancer. The 3 stars are for the very friendly and respectful staff and especially the valet guys who were very efficient, polite and helpful. The location of this hotel is great.

We usually stay here each year in June or July because it is very consistent and the staff is always very friendly. Quite often I might get an upgrade, which is nice. I did get an upgrade this stay as well as a piece of birthday cake and a bottle of wine in my room.||||The rooms are always nice clean fresh and we have never had a problem with the room. We did get a balcony type room with our suite this time, which is interesting because it looks like a little bit like a jail yard ha ha. There was no privacy on the balcony but every time I sat out there, I never saw another person. It was a nice view toward Pacific Grove, and this time of year you can see the Western Gulls and their chicks on the rooftops. ||||When you walk along the coastal trail, you will see sea otters, sea lions, elephant seals, brown pelicans, Cormorant, and other birds. This time of year you will see Western goals and nests in some locations. It’s a great location to see lots of wildlife. The hotel is also located near the wharf where all of the tourist restaurants are, but there are also several restaurants in town that are equally as good.||||We always really enjoy the buffet breakfast and eat way too much. The staff is also great here and the food is not very good. ||||The front desk staff was very friendly and the valet guys were all nice as well. This hotel is very consistent with good staffing and a clean room which is why we continue to come back each year.

Wow! What a fantastic hotel with great staff and a great friendly feel. ||The hotel was absolutely spotless and the room was beautiful. The bar was fab and catered for everyone’s needs and tastes. ||The valet was fantastic but at $35 a night. ||Would I stay again? Definitely, yes! ||One night stop over and wished it was more.

The Monterey Marriott is by far Monterey's best choice when booking a downtown hotel for a family or a convention stay. Convenient location, spotless common areas, a gracious and welcoming staff and newly updated guest rooms leave little to want in any kind of stay. You can walk to anything in Old Monterey, the wharfs and depending on the weather a walk to the Cannery Row attractions is still shorter than we've walked in San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago, Vegas, etc. Highly recommend!

Nice hotel! Our room was clean and spacious, the beds were so comfy! This hotel has valet parking only. We only stayed 1 night but it was a great place to stay and rest.

Google
We’ve stayed at better Marriotts before, but this one was okay. They gave us vouchers for free drinks at the restaurant bar, but unfortunately, it was closed both when we checked in and again the next morning when we checked out. The breakfast buffet was good, though it was quite busy since there were two conferences happening at the same time. We didn’t use the outdoor pool or hot tub, but they’re located on the patio. Our room was fine for one night, though a bit worn. The biggest downside was the number of additional fees and taxes—they seemed to add up to more than the room rate itself.

Google
The hotel is very conveniently located, close to some of the main attractions such as the Cannery Row and food places. Prejudging it on the basis of the looks from the outside can be misleading. We had a very comfortable stay here, thanks to the team managing the property. Our room was clean and the view outside from the room was good, with some part of the Monterey Bay visible. The valet parking staff were also kind enough to charge the EV we were traveling in, while we stayed. One of the other things that I appreciated the most about the hotel was a nice bottle-filling drinks machine they had in the lobby that we had never seen before at a hotel. This machine lets the guests customize fizzy drinks and bottle them for their consumption.

Yelp
I was left scrambling for a hotel room when my prior arrangements fell through. I was able to get a room at the Marriott hotel in downtown Monterey. Not going to soft sell this, the price was well ... pricey. But the customer service was excellent and the room was what was expected at that price. The hotel is quite large with its meandering hallways and circuitous stairwells. Even the lobby gave off airport terminal vastness vibes. The interior public spaces and hotel room were beautifully decorated and designed giving off a modern metro feel. They have a restaurant onsite serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The swimming pool was outside with the hotel rooms surrounding all four sides of it. So if you are looking for some peace and quiet, you might not want to book the rooms around the pool area. Parking is on site is an additional fee and is valet only. It's an unground parking lot. They have electric chargers but there are a limited number of them and there is no guarantee they'll be available when you need them. The valets were all super helpful and efficient. There are other non Marriott local parking options. For an additional fee, dogs are allowed with the hotel guests. But not sure if there are any green spaces for them to do their business. I saw a dog relieving himself out front on the sidewalk. Overall more pros than cons and definitely a solid hotel portion in Monterey if this falls into your budget.

Yelp
Your people are great. Property/location deserves more than two stars, but when combined with the always increasing price, it hurts to know that this service has a dollar sign attached to it. It's the sentiment. We are (were) Marriott Gold, then Silver members, and wrote reviews about them lowering rates during off seasons, which made sense because half of the businesses they advertise within walking distance were closed. The management said they had sway in pricing. And what we see now is an additional $20 destination fee per night. Lol. Cool. It's just a greedy hotel. Can't give a three or four or five star when you think you're so worth always increasing prices. Get it? Like, this service of ours is worth $200 per night. All of the sudden the same service is $214 a night. Then $236, then $20 destination fees for each of those nights. Same shit, worth more every single time we visit? Nah.
google avatar

Yelp
Two stars for location, no stars for the room or the lobby. As other have said, dogs everywhere. In the short time during check in, we saw one dog pee all over the floor in front of check in desk and another hair dog rolling around one of the couches in the lobby. That's just gross. Breakfast is ok, better than most, but no egg whites which is a bummer. The bathroom has two outlets and no place to hang towels. It is also the darkest bathroom, I can't even see to put make up on. The lighted mirror is lame and doesn't help. If they had more outlets I would have went to the store to buy a lamp, it was that bad.

Yelp
Was in Monterey for a wedding and this hotel was a decent walk to the venue. Got a room with a bay view and def didnt disappoint. The valet was great, check in was on point even though we had to wait for our room. They gave us a voucher to wait at the bar and we enjoyed that. The only thing that was a challenge was that we weren't made aware that housekeeping service was upon request only. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
Beautiful modern hotel, clean room and impeccable customer service. Valet only. Ive been parking in the street even though the valet already paid by my employer. I just don't like waiting for the car and I rarely carrying cash for tips. Very minimum room amenities, only soap, lotion, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, in which the shampoo was empty when we arrived. When I requested extra towels, creamers, Coffees, blanket, and microwave, they came bringing it quickly. Heated outdoor swimming pool in which very nice. Working hot tub. Only one. Some hotels this big have more than one hot tub. Restrooms for swimming pools accessible inside the building, in which you would need a key to go back to the pool area. Restroom have one stall of restroom and one stall for showering. Gym was decent size, overlooking the hot tub/ swimming pools. Breakfast can be buffet or a la carte. Buffet $35 per adult and $15 kids 12 and under. No coffee provided in the lobby, but available for purchase. Breakfast buffet is full buffet (pastries, omelette station, oatmeal, cereals, fruits, bacon, sausage, chorizo, steam rice, "congee" (was more mushed rice with soup). All drinks have to be served by the waitress. For almost $300 a night (some rates were more than $400), I just thought breakfast and coffee should be included, just like the other Marriott chain. Most of the time I just need 2 toasts and two cups of coffees, so at least those simple perks, I think, was very basic, and should be necessity. Mobile key was on and off, sometime worked, sometimes the "unlock door" option was missing from the app and had to re request in which a hassle. This was a big difference with Hilton and Marriott and often played a big role in me choosing lodging. I am member for both, and I often chose the other one because of the flexibility choosing my own room through the app prior to arriving, consistent mobile key function, evening reception and breakfast (I tend to ALWAYS lose the physical room key anyway, so mobile key function worked amazingly for me). Another thing too, with the other brand, I usually didn't have to stop by front desk when checking in, which was so helpful after a long travel. This Marriott next to the Monterey Conference distance and 5 minutes walk to the Old Fisherman Grotto, in which a row of fun little shops and restaurants. You can walked along the bike path overlooking the yachts and boats, and occasionally could spot crabs, or sea lions. 9 minutes walk and you got to the Monterey Station where the beach was clean and so quiet. It was a nice stay, bed was comfortable with fluffy pillows, but for next work function/ pleasure visit, I would choose another Marriott that offers self parking with simple breakfast included.

Yelp
The hospitality is always great at a Marriott property and Monterey Marriott is no exception. I stayed here for a three day conference. The room was very spacious and clean. The sheets were silky soft. Our only complaint was that the pillows were too squishy and offered zero support. They asked on check in if we wanted housekeeping daily or if we wanted to forego it. I think this is the norm now, post COVID. Meeting room facilities were average, but what really stood out was the food! Breakfast, lunch and snacks were really good! My coworkers and I have never thought that even at some of the swankiest hotels we've been to at this particular annual conference that changes venues every year. There's a complimentary trolly that will take you around the area from 10am-6pm. Valet is a hefty $39/night. EV charging is not guaranteed, slow at 10kw/hr, and there's only two chargers available. We used my car once over our three night stay so the charging ended up not being an issue.

Yelp
My family and I stayed here the weekend of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. This hotel is dated. The beds are not comfy at all. The pillows are non-existe Parking is Valet only, which is a slight inconvenience if you want to come and go throughout the day. Make sure you call ahead as it can take a while for them to fetch your car.

Yelp
Stayed here for a short getaway from the city and to visit Monterey. The location is very nice and easily walkable to the pier. The hotel itself is also quite large and lots of conference room space and a nice breakfast buffet area. We had an upgraded room which was new and modern however there are a lot of pros and cons. I liked how new the room was and it had a pool view. The room was semi clean (some stains on the counter) and shower newly renovated. The bad was that the walls are paper thin. I can hear the neighbors snoring, anyone in the hall way and someone was on their cellphone at the pool at 6 am and it woke us up and I could hear them talk as if I was right next to them. Moreover, Valet parking is a total rip off. DON'T PAY FOR IT! There is plenty of street parking for free especially on weekends you can just park 1 block away in the 2 hour parking zone overnight for free which I think starts at 9am (i think) and ends at 6pm so you essentially can park until 11am and park at 4pm. Sundays is also free all day on the street without time limits. The breakfast buffet is pretty nice though. Lots of choices and i liked their omelet bar. Donuts and pastries are fresh and ordered locally. Overall, we have a fun time here. Not a bad experience but also not the best hotel I've been to. Nice average hotel stay.

Yelp
This hotel is a bit dated Shower water pressure is 10/10 Sink water pressure is 3/10 Pillows 3:/10 The onsite restaurant is a 6:/10 I will say the water rations in each floor are nice Even though my preferences say room away from elevator I was placed next to elevator Would I stay here again Ehhhh probabaly not

Yelp
Clean and large room accommodations just a few distance from most restaurants, museums and fisherman harbor area.. would had known could had to stay longer but due to having appointments in place had to stay overnight only .. would definitely come back! They do offer breakfast with hotel stay for a fee which is kind of good although stay with just with the pastries, fruits , omelets coz me no like the other food choice need more seasonings for my own preference only but overall its worth the dollar spent
google avatar

Yelp
I really do love this hotel. I've had great rooms 3 out of 4 times. Almost all of the staff are friendly and accommodating. It's right next to the conference center. My only "complaint" continues to be their gym. It's a large hotel with 10 floors and around 100 rooms on 8 of those floors, but the gym is the size of one of their suites so it gets extremely crowded. The equipment is run down.
google avatar

Yelp
Poor customer service, the worst I have ever experienced at a Marriott! Hotel is dirty and old looking, Outdated building and decor. Loud music from bar/restaurant area, so loud that our room on the second floor was shaking. Not a safe downtown area for walking, homeless people on the sidewalks blocking passing.
google avatar

Shamsie E.

Yelp
Clean. Nice staff. Valet charged my car so I didn't have to worry about charging on my drive home.

Yelp
Returning Customer. In the perfect location for a weekend getaway. Walkable location to the wraf and aquarium. Bar is well stocked with great drinks and good food. Staff is accommodating and helpful in finding local good eats. Rooms are spacious and have a great view of the coastline.

Yelp
This hotel in Monterey is wonderful and what makes it extremely ideal is the location! Just a block away from downtown Monterey, you can step out and walk to grab coffee, dinner and drinks, or go to the beach (a little farther of a walk)! They have a great outdoor lounge area with a nice hot tub, pool and outdoor bar where they also host events. The restaurant and bar are nicely situated away from the rooms. There are plenty of valets to park your car, or you can self park about a block from the hotel entrance. But don't let that put you off as you can unload your car in front of the hotel entrance located off the street so you don't block traffic. Overall, a great hotel in downtown Monterey that I would absolutely stay at again.

Ann S.

Yelp
Very very slow on the check in process and NO room service and room key would not work had to move rooms and asked them to charge our EV and they failed and when at Valet they took 20 minutes to find our car- Epic fail all around

Yelp
Service ALL around from Check-In, Housekeeping, Restaurant hosts/server is above-and-beyond, super friendly, and pleasantly thoughtful. Olivia at Front Desk immediately made my toddler's day when we arrived after a long drive-up from the OC by surprising my little one with 2 cute mini ocean animal stuffies. And that just made my mama heart explode and melt at the same time to see my baby light up and love on her new lil ocean stuffies! May have been a small gesture, but made such a huge sweet 1st impression and set the tone for the rest of our stay at this wonderful hotel property. And Joshua at the Front Desk was attentive enough to ask if we needed a microwave in the room since he saw that we had a toddler. And I REALLY appreciated that fact because having a toddler who's just almost 1.5yro may need it for heating up formula or food. So BRAVO to the Front Desk team for being incredibly thoughtful, kind, connecting, and going above & beyond to make our Check-In experience we've ever had! And even when I called to request for some things here & there, Front Desk was super efficient in communicating to Housekeeping that we didn't have to ever wait long for them (I.e. extra towels, toilet paper, tissue, plastic bags). And whenever Housekeeping delivered, they were ALL so kind, sweet, and super courteous. In addition, every time we ate downstairs at their Farm-to-table restaurant "Fin & Field", ALL servers & even the host was amazing! My toddler is a super friendly and likes to wave at people , so when she was waving at the host every time he walked by, he eventually came back to our table to give her a mini ocean stuffy! Now that was SUPER sweet and made our morning breakfast and made my Mama heart melt some more! As if the service wasn't the only thing amazing, they had this refillable water machine near the elevators that allows you to customize your own water to refill your water bottle. You can flavor it, boost it with electrolytes, caffeine, or vitamin & minerals. AND choose sparkling, hot, cold, room temp. Overall, this was the best hotel experience I've ever stayed at and would come back to stay here again!

Yelp
Really friendly staff and a fantastic location within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and historical sites. Our double queen room was spacious and clean, though the mattresses and pillows could do with an upgrade. Water in the shower was hot but water pressure not so great (on the 4th floor).
google avatar

Elton S.

Yelp
Scant vegetarian options on the menu at the Fin + Field Restaurant and Bar are starchy and unsatisfying, making this a limited venue for company events. But the view is nice on clear weather days (sadly, I came here late winter, so things were little more blustery.) However, if you don't have such restrictions and arrive in the spring and summer, the view'll be great and food will be satisfying. Nothing that would prevent one from seeking out better trendier options in town or within walking distance. Room was spacious and well kept. Service from check-in, housekeeping was pleasant and thoughtful.

Jennelle T.

Yelp
Great location Friendly staff Decent room but could have been cleaned a little better. The restaurant has a great buffet for breakfast. Much better than most Marriott's we have been to.

Yelp
A Five-Star Experience at the Monterey Marriott The Monterey Marriott and its incredible team went above and beyond to make our Celebrity Big Night a celebration of the Academy Awards, an absolute success. From the moment we began planning, General Manager Stefan Lorch and his outstanding staff demonstrated incredible flexibility, professionalism, and a gracious attitude that made the entire event seamless. Special thanks to Event Planners Jamie Edwards and Eddie Guice, Characters Bar Manager Joseph, the phenomenal bartender Jaime, and the exceptional wait staff who ensured that every detail was flawless. The hotel helped transform Characters Bar into a stylish lounge setting, perfect for our guests, and even rolled out the red carpet on behalf of the Monterey County Film Commission Whether you're a local or visiting Monterey, I highly recommend experiencing the Monterey Marriott, from its top-tier hospitality to the inviting atmosphere of Characters Bar, it is a true gem in our community! Yelp
For a one night getaway, we stayed at Monterey Marriott. Although we had visions of fishing off the pier or hiking along the coast, we did none of the above and spent the day in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea which had a lot to offer in terms of shopping, restaurants, and no homeless people. For parking, we found a city-owned parking lot on the same street as the Marriott where prices were fairly reasonable and payment is via the ParkMobile app so make sure to download the app. On the side, the parking lot doesn't charge after 6pm, but if you overnight, you must pay for however many hour you think you're going to stay BEFORE 9am the next day. Back to the hotel, I liked our clean and spacious room, with good-sized bathroom and shower. Speaking of the shower, there was a circle cutout on the glass part of the shower (which I initially thought was a towel hanger) and I think it's used to turn on the shower before getting into the shower which I think is ingenious. Additionally, there was a small fridge and coffee machine. Amenities included were the gym with towels, water, and a full sized bathroom and shower. At the time I was there, the gym had a few dumbbell weights missing, but had what I needed. Although hydration stations were allegedly located on each guest room floor and a SodaStream station in lobby, there were none to be found. In fact, when I asked about it, I was told that they used to be there. During our stay, we did not get a chance to use the pool which had limited hours. All in all, our stay was pleasant and we will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
I wish there was another hotel that was part of a chain as this location is so convenient and maybe that's why i keep coming back, despite issues. Came in for 1 night with some friends from out of town and I will say, even though being a Bonvoy member and its free, you don't really get much and there are never any upgrades or anything available they promote about being loyal to them. Front desk staff and restaurant staff are always friendly and accommodating , but the bathroom was dirty when i checked in. I did get credited some points (which are useless, but better than nothing), but i still expect a level of standard from a large chain brand and attention to detail a little better.

Yelp
Location, location, location. Best one in Monterey. First, we were welcomed charcuterie fruits, cheese, chocolate and champagne! The hotel is walking distance to everywhere and we never took our car out. We took Lyft once to a restaurant that was 6 miles away. First night we had a few drinks at the bar. Service was great from Ricky. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the morning open at 6:30-11 am. We wanted local coffee and simply walked 1/2 a block. The Wells Fargo Bank was also right there the next block. Staff are super friendly and we had a nice corner room with a view of the Marina thanks to Irma. The hotel is due to for a remodel as the bathroom were a little older. The room decor was simple and beds were comfortable. I did love the cotton light robes and slippers they provide and oversized bath towels. Thank you for a great stay!

Yelp
There is a health issue with the rooms in this hotel. The windows and sliding doors do not open to allow fresh air inside the rooms. Running the fan is not a healthy option since the air goes throughout all rooms. This system exposes the guests to breathe the same air as a guest (s) who might be ill with contageouse condition. I have never had Covid, but tested positive for Covid staying in this hotel two nights, two days after returning home. This hotel is over priced considering how dated it is, the rooms have a bad odor due to lack of fresh air, the shower flow is super low, it takes a long time to take a shower. In addition, the breakfast is unhealthy with a lot of white carbs, no vegetables, or healthy protein and the coffee has a very bad taste and smell. The two stars are for friendly and polite staff and the valet guys. Parking is super expensive. The location is very nice. We stay in Marriotts for business and vacation, always have positive experience. Not this time.

Yelp
Marriott continues to provide an excellent guest experience. From the moment we arrived -- valet parking, registration, housekeeping -- the entire staff was friendly, welcoming, and accommodating throughout our entire stay. Complimentary bottled water, plenty of working outlets in the room for today's technology needs, very clean rooms, and a quiet, relaxing atmosphere makes this my preferred hotel in the area. The location is optimal for a short walk to the Fisherman's Wharf, too. Fast valet parking was a pleasure, as well.

Yelp
A hidden gem! Not that hidden- it's the tallest building in Monterey- but it's really close to everything and even the beach! The rooms have great views- mine was spectacular- of the entire bay. They have a heated pool, jacuzzi, and a nice gym. I loved the breakfast buffet. The staff was SUPER friendly and helpful. I felt right at home here! Walking distance to the aquarium, the dock w cute restaurants, and a small town beach. It's a great place to visit and there's a lot of history to discover within a stones throw. Really enjoyed my stay.

Yelp
Stayed here for a weekend visit, chosen solely for its proximity to the wharf area- and racking up Marriott Bonvoy points. We utilized valet parking which was a seamless experience. The valet team was very diligent and friendly. The front desk staff was very friendly. We were given the option of daily housekeeping and opted for this. We like a clean room. This location allowed us many dining and shopping conveniences. I could not recommend the breakfast buffet, as I don't usually eat $30 worth of breakfast. I opted for a single menu item. The Classic Eggs Benedict Hollandaise was buttery rich and savory- probably the best I've ever had. Our room was a two double bed option with a pool view. Although the pool was very busy, we heard the hotel team keep the 10 o'clock enforcement. It's Summer--People enjoy being in a pool! No complaints here. Our room was modern and very clean. We had a very nice stay.

Yelp
Great location, it is in downtown area and lots of great restaurants nearby. Room size is good and reasonable but cleanliness is questionable. The cons: 1. The rooms level starts at level 3 and almost near the street level. 2. The trash can was not wiped down and has white stains, hopefully it is not what I think it is. 3. Shower water pressure is very weak. 4. The walls and windows are very thin and seemed like single pane or something. It is very noisy even at night. You can hear car revving, people talking on the streets 5. The valet can take a long time and because of the small loading/unloading area is so small, it can be very congested with guests trying to park especially if there's an event at the hotel. 6. They do not have any bed rails for younger kids. 7. Housekeeping is a hit and miss.. we asked for extra pillows but had to called multiple times. The pros: 1. The employees at the lobby are very nice.

Yelp
Looking for a centrally located hotel for two nights during Christmas, I decided on the Monterey Marriott. I had stayed here the year before when I attended an event at the convention center across the street. The rooms here are nice, clean, modern, and quiet (we were on the 9th floor). I'm not sure when they were last refurbished, but it seems recent since they are all set up for today's "connected" traveler with electrical outlets and USB-A ports for charging all your devices on both sides of the bed. Luggage storage was also ample for two people. The bathroom sink was puzzling; it's only about 3 inches deep and flat on the bottom. So, in order to wash away your toothpaste or shaving cream or whatever else you put in there, you have to put your hand under the stream and swoosh it around the sink. It's an unfortunate design, albeit stylish. Speaking of design, I appreciate that the shower door has a hole in it so you can reach your arm in to adjust the water temperature without having to subject your entire body to water that's either too hot or too cold as you fine-tune the temperature. I didn't use the weight room outside of going down to fill up our water bottles from the gym's top-load water dispenser. Next to the dispenser were also a stacked pile of water bottles, which was unfortunate since they only lead to more plastic waste. I'd love to see the plastic bottles eliminated and the dispenser upgraded to an integrated water filling station. The gym itself seemed well-equipped if one were inclined to work out. Valet parking is an extra $40 (ok, $39), so we just parked at a city lot a block away for about half the price.

Yelp
I was very impressed with this hotel! Having been in a Marriott every week this year - this was definitely one of the better ones and a great choice. Check in was quick as easy though a pretty lobby and the rooms appeared modern, recently renovated and clean! Our room was very quiet, a good size and impeccably clean! As a Titanium member we had two free breakfast each day and this was the one of the better offerings compared with most Marriotts I have been to of late with an omelette station, locally sourced pastries and delicious fruit! And a bit thanks to Arnel who was a great employee in the restaurant. This hotel has a great location minutes from the ocean, modern rooms and greet service- highly recommend.

Yelp
I highly recommend this GREAT hotel located in the heart of Monterey. You will receive the highest level of service that we have come to appreciate at Marriott properties. The entire staff was welcoming and gracious and a Big shoutout to Emily who made us feel extra SPECIAL celebrating our anniversary. Thank you and we will be back!

Yelp
This so called manager is the worst They been told many times DO NOT BLOCK st parking & he did exactly that He stood on st parking while smoking a cigarette on the job blocking me so someone staying at Marriott can park there. U have valet UTILIZE IT I will be putting in a formal complaint. This is NOT the first time he's done it & it is not part of his job to be doing so

Yelp
It was a very nice hotel and centrally located. I was in a double room on the fifth floor without a view of the wharf. The room was clean. The valet was fast. Its only a 10-15 minute drive to the airport. The meeting I was in town for held a couple events on the top floor. There is a great view of the bay as long as it's not too foggy.

Yelp
Stayed here for a work conference on Sun-Tues in September. Price: $623 for 2 nights in a king room, $40/day for valet parking. Business hotel vibe within walking distance of Monterey Conference Center. Pros: - Really beautiful on the inside lobby, HUGE room with a great shower. Great TV. - Perfect location in downtown Monterey, walkable to multiple other hotels, the water, lots of restaurant options. - Really great bed, all the expected amenities like the fridge, safe, etc. - Really good water pressure, and I liked the little random feature of having a hole in the shower door to stick your arm through so the rest of your clothes don't get wet? Genius (at least I think that's what it's for?) - I like how the app is super user friendly and you can chat with Marriott for simple questions like parking, food hours, etc. - All the staff we interacted with were friendly. - Check-in process was super fast and smooth, really easy checkout process on the app. - Honestly have to name location again - even though it was pricey it was the best deal in the area that was close to so many great restaurants, you could come here without a car if you wanted to. We loved that we could just walk to the ocean and enjoy the view so easily. Cons: - I didn't love that you have to use valet parking if you want to park in the hotel, $40 is not cheap. The next day we figured out we could park in the West or East garages nearby for much less, and it's just down the road right around the corner. It's also kind of unclear the timing of when your 24 hrs starts to re-charge you $40, so I would definitely ask and clarify. - Unfortunately the walls felt thin and I could hear doors slamming. Overall, not a bad business hotel to stay at, especially if you're a Marriott rewards member.

Yelp
This place come with mixed reviews. The location was good. Plenty of spots to walk to to enjoy some food or drink. First off the staff here are great. Everyone i came into contact with was very helpful. The room, it was nice but definitely had some issues. Pros: room was nice. Bed was comfortable. Had all the amenities like fridge, safe and ironing board and iron that worked great. Cons: You can hear everyone leaving their room. I swear I thought someone just left my room. Yes that's how loud the noise is when the door shuts. The shower leaks and I mean leaks bad. I showered twenty minutes ago and the water is still sprinkling from the shower head. They definitely don't clean their air returns. Look how filthy it is. As for the price. I was here for work so I got a special rate. Where they get you is there is no parking. I think I had to drop an additional 36 bucks for them to valet park my vehicle since they do not have a self park are. Ouch!

Yelp
We had an amazing time! The staff here is so kind and hard working, from the bartenders to the valet. With Marriott Bonvoy, we got complimentary access to the breakfast buffet and the food was amazing; waking up everyday knowing we were about to have a bomb breakfast was definitely a highlight of our stay. We also loved how the hotel is walking distance to the wharf! We will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Pro: Nice location. Walking distance to wharf and some local eatery. Nice pool popular with kids. Con: only valet parking. Room has a funky smell as pets are allowed. You need to pay for internet. Even as a member you can't connect. There is very poor reception in the rooms. Many of the wall socket do not work. Well it's a Marriott....

Yelp
I had my wedding in Monterey last weekend. We coordinated with Monterey Marriott for many of our guests to stay at - they all expressed liking the rooms and location to the venue. Honestly, the service from the team left a lot to be desired. We had reached out to them to see if we could host a "after party" to our wedding at the bar- we had walked and talked to a host previously who said they do it often for weddings and will stay open until midnight as Monterey weddings often have a curfew of 10 p. The manager confirmed they would stay open for us but if guests seemed to already have had enough to drink, they will reserve service which we respected and agreed on. Well come wedding night, my brother was the first to head over and calls me to say the 1 person working the bar is asking about how many guests are coming and who's card to use. I told my brother to tell them I had already coordinated with (Michelle) the host and she knows guests will pay for their own drinks and most likely around 30-40 people. When my bridal party and myself finally walked over, our guests who were there started telling me "the server has been kind of rude" and "they're not serving cocktails now." I went to talk with the server but was caught off guard because he was telling my mom to stand in line, when she was just standing next to another guest. He then said he is not able to serve me (the bride) because I didn't have my ID on me. I said that's okay, I know it's a law - and asked for coffee (as I saw them just making espressos) well he then said they have no more coffee after restaurant service is complete. I just kind of walked away at that point because I was really caught off guard by his attitude. My mom then told me "not to worry, she gave her card when the server was asking for one" thinking that's what I was talking to him about. I was super confused and went back to him to tell him guests were suppose to pay for their own drinks, as discussed. My mom said they wouldn't serve at first until there was a card. I closed the tab and asked to speak to his supervisor. The supervisor honestly just added to the stress and was rude as well. He told me how "overwhelming it is to have a group of this size for one bar tender" and I agreed and said totally, which is why we coordinated in advance so the bar could be prepared and made sure it was okay. He said the bartender broke a glass in the ice which is why they stopped serving cocktails (which I wasn't even aware of). When I explained about the tab he said that was never communicated to him from his supervisor and I said that's okay, but that's also a communication issue within your team and it was more the attitude and overall experience. I would not recommend this in the future.

Yelp
Quick take: lobby/rooms The lobby area looks like none of the budget was allocated to the lobby area. I walked through Portola to get to Marriott. Maybe that's why it was very underwealming walking into the Marriott. Service was great. Can't complain at all. I received great customer service from the front desk, vallet, and housekeeping. Stayed here for 4 nights for a conference. The rooms were decent. Much better aesthetics than the lobby area.

Yelp
At check-in, Emily couldn't find my reservation. She checked under my last name, my boss' last name, my boss' secretary's last name, my middle name, and my last name with an M instead of an N, all with a smile, maybe because she is an Em herself. She was even checked the neighboring hotels for my last name, and offered to help me find a room once we realized I was the mumbskull. She even was willing to keep me from being charged for the valet parking. If she is not made a manager by the end of the year they should at least make her a nanager. Anyway, I was there for the Big Blackout of 2023 when Monterey had a blackout all weekend for the California League of Education conference. This meant no hot water, no wifi, and peeing with your phone flashlight. I called my wife to say I'd peed on the floor and she said, "What's new?" Anyway, even though the guests had no power in their rooms, Marriott miraculously remained the only place on the peninsula with power and the conference could continue. Presentations could still be presented. Powerpoints still had power. Movies moved and slides slid. They made sure their customers were fed (the breakfast was great) , accommodating about 450 people. The even made arrangements to host the events from the convention center and neighboring hotels, like taking in refugee. They must be commended for being so prepared and flexible. We were amped. Literally. If it is within your budget, I recommend this well-managed hotel.

Yelp
Monterey Marriott is centrally located and close to the Monterey Wharf, cannery row and pebble beach. Service was uniformly excellent. The bellboy suggested we get extra pillows and a microwave sent to our room at no extra charge. A small refrigerator was included. Our package included an excellent breakfast buffet valued at $30 per person. Valet parking is $39 a day but there is close offsite parking. Rosine's restaurant is located a block and a half away and also provides room delivery. I highly recommend getting the minestrone. Best I've ever had with large chunks of meat. Going to the Monterey aquarium is a must as well as driving through the 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach. There is an entrance fee but if you have lunch reservations at Stillwater's restaurant at the Lodge the fee is waved. For a special dinner the Sardine Factory is recommended. If you're too tired to go out the hotel restaurant is convenient and comfortable. The only negative is the hotel doesn't have daily cleaning service. They provide only two paper coffee cups and limited filters. Trash accumulates quickly. You can call and request cleaning service but what a hassle. Should be provided.

Yelp
My family and I decided to have a long weekend in Monterey and spend some time in Carmel as well. I've stayed here before and so I had an idea of what to expect. Pros: I always love their breakfasts and made to order omelet and hot pancakes. They have a good but basic variety of breakfast foods that even my daughter who isn't a big breakfast person can find something she likes to eat. This time it was bagels and they're yummy potatoes. I also love their hot oatmeal. There's a variety of juices and milk as well. When you think about how much daily breakfast costs a family we figured this saved us about $150 on our trip. Food for thought! Along with breakfast there's always an evening snacks and drinks and on the weekends there's large drinks dispensers with Shirley temple for the kiddos and the bar has a few alcoholic drinks for the adults for free. Another pro is their indoor pool. This was one of the main reasons we stayed here too because my kid is a water baby! We spent time in the pool everyday while it was super windy and cold outside! Cons: After we checked in and we're in our room for awhile I realized the room wasn't getting any cooler and it was pretty warm. A call to the front desk and an engineer came up and fixed our ac. From then on no more issues with the ac. Second we kept having repeated issues with getting hot water in our shower. I would take a shower and the water would be nice and hot and then an hour later after playing in the pool my daughter was shivering in the shower waiting for the water to get hot. We would have to wait at least a few mins and this is after we called the front desk and had someone come up and look at our shower. I know that we're coming out of a drought but still I HATE wasting all that water waiting for the it to get hot! One last thing and I'm not sure whether to put this in the pro or con but there's a daily resort fee and from that resort fee you get to spend $15 per night you stay there in their gift shop that has a Starbucks or at their in house restaurant. We tried our best to use the $15 and mostly we spent it in food in the gift shop. This was something new that they had never done before. I thought it was strange but it's another way for them to get you to spend more money on site. The reason I give this place a 4 star and not a 5 is because for the amount that we paid for our stay I expected to have few if any issues with our room. Everything outside of the room was lovely and side note since the last time we stayed here they opened up an In N Out two buildings down. Sweet spot for a quick meal!

Yelp
Very convenient location right near the water. Short 3 minute walk to the waterfront path that takes you all the way to Cannery Row. Took about 22 minutes to walk there at a good pace. Very pleasant. Our room was very spacious and looked fairly well maintained. Only issue we had which is why this is a 3-star review is that we didn't have hot water for the shower. We called 2 times to get it looked at and finally someone came to only say the same thing, "we will check the boiler room." But radio silence after that. And certainly no hot water which meant we had lukewarm showers that left us very cold. In the morning, I guess the hot water issue was fixed but they should have told us what was going on. Breakfast buffet was great and front desk was friendly.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel for a work trip and I definitely will be back. The room was spacious, clean and I enjoyed that the TV had a Netflix's option. The room has a lot of space for getting ready in the bathroom area and the bed was very comfortable; linens were nice, pillows were comfortable. For a standard room it had a lot of space. I did have to call for housekeeping to come by; this is a new rule I understand. I wish room service was an option again; I know hotels have done away with this and it is unfortunate really! The hotel rooms do look recently renovated which was a plus. The downstairs restaurant was the best food I have had in awhile! Good food is hard to come by in a busy hotel environment and I went there 2 nights out of the 3. The slider door to the little balcony did not close entirely and it was a windy and raining night but all in all this hotel was great for 4 days and 3 nights.

Yelp
It is a very nice place in the center of downtown Monterrey, CA, within walking distance of the wharf. The Restaurant inside was very good. "Fin & Field Restaurant." I had the clam chowder, and it was good. I loved the Cauliflower Steak grilled with an Anco chili sauce on it. The cheese platter was excellent, and they have a very nice wine list if you want that. The place is clean and very comfortable bed. I needed that after a long drive.

Yelp
They offered free Wi-Fi then charged us $17 for one night. We accidentally forgot our prescription medicines in our bathroom tote when we left. Later when we realized it, and before we could get our local friends to run over and pick them up for us I found out housecleaning had thrown them out. They could have texted us. Well, it's a Marriott. The full corporate experience. We were just nobodies to them. And I sensed the employees were too. Robots. We won't be returning.

Yelp
Very good Marriott in the center of Monterey. Enjoyed the breakfast (in lieu of Lounge access) and walked around since it was connected to the convention center. We did street parking to save some money, seemed fine. Expansive lobby with ballrooms on the second floor. We checked out the Ferrantes Bay View ballroom as it was hosting a special brunch that was a big pricey. Didn't eat there but nice view.
