This campground was the best. It is so close to everything but feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. It’s a short walk down the hill into town. We had a family of deer behind our camper, a couple of bobcats, and a great horned owl. Bathroom was clean. Shower was unlimited and hot. The sink behind the bathroom was large and hot for cleaning dishes.

We have camped here many times over the years. Very quiet, attracts upper middle class respectable people. Fee has gone through the roof and amenities have not been improved at all for many years. We like the first come first served system, no reservations accepted, and there is a three night limit. Some of the sites are in the wooded area. Very close to downtown Monterey. Nice hike from park.

We've been going to this park for over 20 years and it used to be our favorite but not anymore. There are currently two park rangers taking care of this park and one of them shows a resentful attitude towards minority people. He usually works during the day. And they have a system that a camper gets a permit slip and put it on the empty campsite they like. Park rangers remove permit slips every morning at 7am. If there is no slip on site after 7 am that means the camper on that site is leaving. Now they have a new ridiculous rule that a new camper needs to ask pervious camper if they are leaving or not even if there is no permit slip on site. I don't understand what's the point of first come and first serve permit system in this park.

My little dog Cheeka and I came for the night at the hike and bike camping area . Tom was so courteous and helpful we ended up staying longer , plus the city / Weather of Monterey are Spectacular . The hill climb getting there is a bugger though 😅 !

Too many children’s activities and manicured lawns with happy new parents roaming around for me to have a silent cry about my boys in an Najaf. Had to hang around the restroom looking at a dead bird to feel sad.

Went for Cali roots festival memorial day weekend. This place is AWESOME! First come first serve NO RESERVATIONS! the campground is well maintained and completely safe. There are a limited amount of spots available so come early. Check out is noon. There are group camp sites as well as individuals and walk in spots. All the drive up spots have fire rings and tables. Hanging hammock is allowed just be mindful of how you hang it as to not damage the trees. There are plenty of wildlife that call this home so be aware of your food supplies. I saw racoons, dear, squirrels, and plenty of birds. There is a dish washing station by the front entrance. The showers are free for campers and $4 for guests not staying at the park. Pay in advance at the kiosk at the entrance. Limited Ada sites available. There are two brick and mortar flush toilet bathroom areas available. The playground is big, safe and visible from the center of the park. |They discourage camp sharing with strangers. If one person in your camp is a nuisance then everyone in your group will be evicted from the campground. Quiet time is 10pm_9am . There is no wi-fi here so service is spotty. There is a great hike on some stairs that lead to an excellent view of the coast. ||Love this place|Leave no trace

Wow - $47 for a dry campsite now??!! This is utterly ridiculous. We came here just a few years ago and paid $20. Considering that absolutely NOTHING has changed in that amount of time, that is what I would call a rip off.

I visited your campsite for the very first time earlier today. I am from out of town, and I couldn't wait to tell others about this campsite. I paid for a shower but during that shower I was confronted, rudely by one of your staff members. After I was done with the shower and I was getting ready to leave . He then sprayed bleach on my lower ankles & feet. I confronted him that I was allergic to bleach and had to rinse off my feet, once again. I told him that he could've waited for me to exit the restroom as a courtesy. Yet , he did not have any regard for a human life. He was very inhumane. If he were to do this to a peace officer , according to the penal code 244 PC - It is considered an assault with caustic chemicals. He could have easily gotten arrested and charged with a felony and possibly deported, since resident aliens cannot get felony charges. I will further look into that disciplinary action is taken.
