Asheville Restaurants Refining Appalachian Cuisine - AFAR

"At Montgomery Sky Farm in the Turkey Creek community I toured 50 acres of vegetable plots and livestock including Highland cattle and Valois blacknose sheep, and learned that owner Taylor Montgomery, a James Beard–nominated chef, offers private dinners and tastings that demonstrate a seed-to-table philosophy and can include a custom picnic." - AFAR

A Magical, Meaningful Farm Experience We absolutely loved our time at Montgomery Sky Farm. It is clear from the moment you arrive that the animals here are living their best lives. The team allows every animal to choose when and if they want to engage, which creates such a calm, respectful, and genuinely special environment. You can feel the difference right away. Their commitment to regenerative farming and preserving heritage varieties shines through in everything they do. It is inspiring to see a farm so deeply rooted in sustainability and stewardship, while also sharing that passion with visitors in such an accessible and hands on way. Our visit sparked our interest in their barn dinners, and we are so glad it did. The food is not only incredibly delicious, but each dish comes with its own story told with skill, heart, and a deep connection to the land. There is something truly nourishing about eating food that was picked that very day. It is an experience that stays with you. If you are looking for a thoughtful, immersive, and unforgettable farm experience, Montgomery Sky Farm is the place to go. Whether you want to learn more about sustainable agriculture, connect with animals, or enjoy a memorable dining experience, this farm is an absolute must visit. Highly recommend.

We had the absolute best experience celebrating our 10-year anniversary here! The tour was wonderful, and it was inspiring to see how much heart goes into both the animals and the mission behind this place. These animals are happy and well taken care of. It made the whole experience even more special understanding the passion and purpose driving it. Fran is an angel to these animals!! After finishing the tour and meeting the amazing residents, we were welcomed to a perfectly set table in the most beautiful barn. Every single dish blew our expectations out of the water — the flavours were incredible, the courses flowed seamlessly, and the amount of thought and care that went into each plate was so clear, never pretentious or “just for the sake of it.” As vegetarians, we often get shafted with “vegetarian options,” but that was absolutely not the case here. We loved every dish, and the wine pairings were perfect too! We left with full hearts (and stomachs!) and are already excited to bring family back so they can experience it too! Fran and Chef Taylor's passions combine perfectly into providing their guests with the most meaningful and unforgettable experience. Highly, highly recommend. Thank you Fran and Chef Taylor for making our anniversary so special!

We visited the rehab rescue farm at Montgomery Sky Farm last night and also enjoyed a private dinner in the barn. The entire experience was extraordinary. The animals are adorable, curious, and clearly well cared for, and the owners bring a rare combination of deep knowledge, genuine compassion, and obvious love for what they do. The setting itself is beautiful and calming. And the dinner… absolutely unforgettable. Every course was crafted with remarkable attention to detail. The farm-to-table meal was not only delicious but truly magical. The chef shared each dish with such humility and authenticity, and you could taste the care in every ingredient and every preparation. It was one of those rare meals where the passion behind it is as memorable as the flavors themselves. It is a privilege to spend time with people who so clearly pour their hearts into their work and who share it with such empathy, generosity, and sincerity. I recommend this place wholeheartedly and will absolutely make a point to return whenever we are in the area again.

We did a Friendsgiving-themed dinner and farm tour with two of our friends and it was so lovely. We purchased the event on their website (head’s up, they are popular and book out in advance!) and Fran was great about communicating what to expect and answering questions via email. We arrived at the farm at 3pm and Fran gave us a tour of their 50 acre farm that lasted about an hour. We started by walking through two large fields where they house sheep, goats, miniature horses, donkeys, guardian dogs, and a baby alpaca. Fran explained that all the animals are rescues and talked about the individual care they provided for them. I think these were the happiest farm animals I’ve ever seen - they were playful, social, and at ease. Fran also drove us on a Kaboda up the road to the hill where they keep highland cows, where we took a walk to visit them. Afterwards we took the Kaboda back down to the farm, where a beautiful table was set up in the barn, with heaters and a blanket on each seat (we were plenty warm). Chef Taylor prepared an incredible meal with ingredients that were harvested that day - appetizers, family-style sides, a red wine pairing, and dessert. Not exaggerating when I say it’s the best meal we had dining out all year. Fran served the dinner and we got to chat with her and Chef Taylor for a bit. They are an impressive couple that together have created a beautifully curated experience here. We wrapped up dinner close to 7pm and immediately looked at the calendar to see when we can book our next visit.

Truly an outstanding farm AND table experience! We are Greenvillians still grieving Urban Wren (where Taylor used to be head chef and what was the best restaurant in town). But now we can let that loss go, because this is 10X BETTER. Fran and Taylor have combined their respective passions caring for rescue farm animals and preparing gourmet meals to curate a a farm visit and dinner well worth the trip. Affectionate donkeys and goats, cute highland cows, and a local food Friendsgiving dinner saturated with flavor. It’s certainly setting the bar for grandma’s official meal on Thursday up for comparative failure. Thank you for such a memorable double date. We can’t wait to return!

We had the most amazing Friendsgiving at Montgomery Sky Farm! It was such a unique and special experience — the hosts were so welcoming and knowledgeable, the food was absolutely to die for, and the animals were incredible! Our guide was so informative and she made sure we were comfortable the entire time. I can’t wait to come back and bring more friends!🤍

What an incredible experience. My friend and I attended the Farm/Forage event and we couldn’t have been happier. It was informative, interesting and DELICIOUS ‼️ First, you take a tour of the garden and learn about their farming practices. Them Taylor, takes off his farmer hat and wows you with his culinary skills. Fran, his wife, is delightful, warm and welcoming. Nice wines are chosen to go with your meal. You get to take home products and I made great meals with the bounty. A nice group of people attended and a good time was had by all. Super cute farm animals too!❤️
