The Perfect Girls Trip for Every Season: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall

"A lakeside Christmas market on Lake Geneva filled with booths selling trinkets and seasonal food (notably fondue sausages), nightly festive displays and family-oriented holiday atmosphere including whimsical events after dark." - Carole Rosenblat

The Most Beautiful Places in Switzerland for Winter's Snowy Peaks and Christmas Markets

"Known affectionately as the Pearl of Geneva, Montreux is not your average small town in Switzerland. Yes, its prime views of the snow-capped Alps and northeastern shores of Lake Geneva make it a clear must-visit for snowbirds among us, but the town is also home to a legendary jazz festival which has been graced by the legendary likes of Nina Simone, Miles Davis, and Ella Fitzgerald. Take advantage of the area’s mild microclimate, perhaps best experienced at the Quays of Montreux, a roughly 8-mile platform along the lakeshore perfumed by exotic flowers and covered by palm fronds. From December to May, intricate plant sculptures line the already idyllic walk." - Caitlin Morton

It was super crowded when I was there as expected on the weekends, so that made the shop browsing a bit challenging. The ambiance on the other hand was great, a good selection of food and drinks. Just make sure you start searching for a spot to watch Santa fly by about 20 to 30 minutes in advance (it’s usually on the hour) to get a good shot. Catching him returning backwards was also quite entertaining.

Amazing place where to have a date, spend time with family and friends and have the best food ever. You can get from churros to foie gras, hot wine, etc. So many different options. You need at least 2 hours to get to enjoy and have a look to all the different shops. It’s super near the train station, if you have a car then I would recommend to be there a bit early to find a spot where to park.

We jumped on the train to Montreux at noon this second Friday of December 2024 to visit the X-mas market. To distort our experience and amuse the reader of this review I had put an 8 mm fish-eye lens on my Olympus om-1 camera. We were well aware that if you want to avoid excessive crowds, you should not come here evenings and week-ends. Also, if you come by car it may take longer to find a parking than the time you would have spent taking public transport to Montreux. Weather was beautiful with a sunny haze over the lake and people were in a good mood. Nevertheless, there is little really unique to be found in the some 150 stalls. There is a lot of eating and drinking going on and I was interested in a dozen of oysters but paying almost 5 CHF a piece for no 3-s is a rip-off. Overall, not a particularly great experience.

This was honestly the biggest and best Christmas market I have been to. There was a good mix of unique craftsman selling their products with food stalls and wine halls. I saw an accessory shop for men that was made of old watch internals dipped in epoxy, a craftsman who makes stuff out of metal forks that we use to eat with. Overall a very interesting few hours spent here. Do take the Ferris wheel ride if you have the time. The whole market is set on the banks of the Lake, with stunning views all around! Definitely worth making the trip from Geneva, just for the market. (Compared to Montreux' Christmas market, the Geneva Christmas Market is way smaller and boring)

Great christmas market with my favorite mulled wine. Highly recommend ordering a pork knuckle from the food court. I ordered one and took it home. It's really delicious.

The flying Santa is the main and unique attraction, with excellent shopping options conveniently located near the station. The wish tree in the market adds a charming touch to the experience

Visited on the 23rd. My first time to Christmas Market in overseas so I might have slightly higher expectations. Overall lots of decorations, lots of stalls selling things and was quite crowded. I would expect the santa claus show could be something more instead of just going half way and some singing and finished.
