he Monument of Remembrance, commonly known as the Gëlle Fra ("Golden Lady"), is one of Luxembourg's most symbolic landmarks. Located in Constitution Square, the monument was originally inaugurated in 1923 to honor Luxembourgers who volunteered to fight in foreign armies during World War I. At its center stands a tall obelisk, topped by a gilded bronze statue of a woman holding a laurel wreath—symbolizing victory and peace. The base features two bronze soldiers, representing the sacrifice and valor of those who served. During World War II, the statue was dismantled by Nazi occupiers and only restored to its original position in 1985. Today, the Gëlle Fra is a powerful national symbol of freedom, resistance, and remembrance. The site also offers one of the best panoramic views over the Pétrusse Valley, making it a meaningful and scenic stop for visitors. Ceremonies are still held here to commemorate those lost in both World Wars.
