Mooloolaba Backpackers

I'd heard many good reviews of this place from friends that had stayed here a couple years back.||Unfortunately it seems this place has just been left to rot and has gone completely down hill. We stayed here on 2 different occasions and neither were good experiences. ||There's no denying the location of this hostel is great. Just a few minutes walk to the beach front and near all the restaurants and bars so it's a shame to see how much potential this hostel has.||The rooms in the hostel itself are completely filthy. On both occasions we stayed in 2 different rooms, both rooms were extremely dirty. Infested with cockroaches, cobwebs everywhere, bugs crawling on the floors and even a footprint on the ceiling? Also, the rooms stink. Like smell very bad.||Our room nor communal bathroom wasn't cleaned once during our stays and without judgement, there were questionable people staying at the hostel. This is NOT for backpackers.||I've stayed at many hotels all over the world including in Australia and this is by far the dirtiest I've stayed in. Unfortunately no excuses and the other hostels I've stayed in Australia have been lovely.||Just be prepared this place is not full of backpackers and it's dirty. Yes it's cheap but you get what you pay for.

Went out to Mooloolaba with a group of friends from work on very short notice. Both Tracy and Julia were kind enough to sort us all out with rooms and get us checked in late at night.||||Mooloolaba is a beautiful small town just before just south of Sunshine Coast. The hostel was very clean and tidy. We had 2x 4-bed dorms which we perfect for us with plenty of space and storage. Night porters were very helpful checking us all in and gave us some handy bits of info. ||||They have a nice and fully equipped kitchen and a wide selection of surfboards to rent out too. ||||All in all, we had a great experience there and would highly recommend to any backpackers on their way through. ||||Will be returning!||James

I spent 3 months living in this working hostel after checking in for 2 nights as a stop through on my east coast trip. I was super lucky in finding farm work straight away which is why I extended my stay. The hostel found work for me however this can also be done by yourself. I called this place home for 3 months. The facilities are adequate it’s full of backpackers so just bring your own cup or spend the morning trying to find one. The rooms are clean (depending on your roommate). Theres a free BBQ every Saturday night and also some epic day tours, whale watching, Katey on reception is amazing , organising extra transport for trips out we would organise ourselves. Any complaints during my 3 months were dealt with effectively and efficiently. ||Overall the place is adequate in terms of facilities, but in an amazing location, 5 minutes from the beach, less than a minute from a beautiful river, coles, Dominoes Nightowl all 2 minutes away, major bus stops located right outside the front door, friendly and helpful staff and the most amazing residents (us backpackers) that you will ever meet ! I came here a solo traveller, I’m leaving with an extended family, and friends for life.

The place is really easy to find, close to the beach, main shopping strip ||Staff are friendly and welcoming ||The rooms are small and a little dirty but I paid $30 a night can't complain. I stayed in room 207, the toilet was broken and would run all night. One of my roomies said they asked the manager to fix it but that didn't happen. But another roomy fixed for us. Also the mattress was comfortable ||Breakfast is free here buts is continental if you doing mind that. There are plenty of places on the main beat to try||I couldn't find a communal tv area, but they have a coin laundry, pool area, lots of meal prep areas and you can hire surf boards and bikes||Overall it was a good stay for $30 only improvements would be better WiFi, could be cleaner, fix broken thing example toilets. You can see in my picture missing a toilet button and broken show shelves ||

Booked a private room for 86 dollars as we were desperate for a room somewhere, but only non refundable option.. which is good for them because as soon as you see the place you'll want your money back! ||||The place looks and feels run down, there's no air con (just a dirty fan nailed to the wall), the bed frame was make shift out of wooden beams as the wheels had clearly broken (very noisy at the slightest movement), there were hairs on the towels, in the shower, and around the sink, huge cobwebs on the windows. ||The place just doesn't look like it's has a clean for months. ||This place is clearly about making money, not refunding people, rather than about the customer.||||If you're passing through here, just avoid this place! Don't waste your money!

Love coming back to this place year after year. Staff is friendly and helpful and they offer stand up paddle boarding in the canals close by. Great location, close to the beach and clean rooms. ||||Can't wait to stay there again.

Stayed here for just over 3 months being promised that there would be farmwork available in the next few weeks. The farmwork "list" is a bit of a joke to be honest, I managed to get 15/88 of my farmwork days done here, and every time I got a single day of work I'd be moved to the bottom of the list to start again. Left here feeling ridiculously frustrated! My friends are currently on farms, and the new manager of the hostel rang those farms and told the farmers to fire their employees as they should be employing people from the hostel, for people who just want to stay in this country longer, this is beyond a joke to just be ripping people off!

No air con...some rooms don't even have fans and the ones that do just have cheap fans...all the backpackers couldn't sleep because of the heat . my room didn't get cleaned once...pool was dirty. ||Poor value for money...I expected better from the only backpackers...no excuse ...I've stayed in third world backpackers that at least had a portable air con unit
