The Moonfish Cafe was a excellent introduction to fine dining in Aberdeen. We didn't make a reservation but just added our name to the wait list. We had a 30 min wait and walked over to a pub down the street. The wait was well worth it. The menu was refreshing in that there weren't too many choices and they change often. This type of menu tells you the restaurant concentrates on putting forth high quality food with every meal. I started with the Rarebit appetizer, my main was a filet of beef, and I finished with a cheese plate. The attention to details with every dish was wonderful. Overall, our meal was excellent! We even spent some time talking to Brian, the owner, and he was very hospitable and friendly. Thank you Brian and Moonfish cafe for the wonderful meal!

Absolutely outstanding 👏 Some of the most delicious food I've ever tasted. Highlights were the scallops and monkfish! Can't wait to go back. Fantastic service, choice, flavours and atmosphere 👏 👌

Excellent food, Excellent Service, Excellent menu choice overall. I would highly recommend this quaint little restaurant opposite the church. Staff are polite and courteous which in this modern society we live in has become almost impossible to find. It's refreshing to find this type of service. We spent just over an hour here. To what I believe has the 100% potential to be Michelin star quality very soon indeed. The quality of food you taste on each and every mouthful is a delight on the taste Presentation is excellent as seen in photos. And this is what's special about this place. It ticks all the boxes in the itinerary. Bravo Moonfish Cafe. Great food.

Food was presented very well, fish cooked perfectly. Both fish main and dessert a bit mild for my taste, but that is personal preference. Starters (scallops and pork ragu) was fantastic. Service was great. Tuesday night was ok wrt to number of people but a lot of tables in a relatively small space. Might feel crowded on a weekend.

We went in for the 4 course taster menu through itison. £75 well spent. The food was fantastic, each course was superb, the paired cocktail was nice too. The staff were lovely, very friendly and attentive but no over bearing. The only down side was it could have been warmer in the restaurant.... that said it was probably about 0°C outside so its understandable

Delightful lunch here at Moonfish. For many years this was a regular lunchtime spot when I worked in Aberdeen Town Centre and I missed it. The food is just as good, and the menu is as interesting as ever. The staff are great, easily and enthusiastically answer questions about the food and take an interest in what we think. This is a small busy place and making a reservation is recommended, the lunchtime helpings are just right for a midday meal. We enjoyed being here, but be aware it's a busy place which can be noisy. Also the booking site give very strict times for occupation of the table. I think we had 1 hour 45 minutes for a table of two - which is more than adequate. No idea if they allow longer in the evenings. Thanks to everyone at Moonfish, and a special thanks to the chef for creating such a great menu!

The food was spot on! The ingredients, presentation and more importantly the taste was spectacular. Would definitely visit again. It's a very quaint place, very simple and accommodating. We had the oysters, the hake, and the leek dish. The desert was dark chocolate with the salted caramel - absolutely divine!

Magnificent. One of my favourite restaurants in Aberdeen. I had preconceptions before going that the food would be tiny portions and I hoped it wouldn't be overrated. The menu was well thought out, fresh and cooked impeccably. I believe the owner was a finalist on MasterChef and the quality of cooking shows. I'm already looking forward to the next time I come here! Edit: Another trip, this time we had complications with our party being unable to attend and Moonfish were excellent at working around us. The food as ever was exquisite and I still think this is the best restaurant in Aberdeen .

Yelp
I was visiting Aberdeen with my Mom and Sister and wanted to take them out for a treat at a Michelin star restaurant. The presentation and food were fabulous! We start with the baked scallop with cauliflower and basil (extra £5--worth it!) & the mozzarella arancini with tomato vodka sauce and parmesan. Both were so yummy! The scallop was baked into the shell, and I may have made noises while eating everything. The hake was a little bland, as white fish can be, but the eggplant, miso custard, and hazelnut really complemented it causing tasty explosion of flavor. I can't eat a lot of pasta, but I wanted to eat all of my sister's king oyster mushroom ricotta gnocchi with spinach and garlic confit. She took half of it to-go so we could save room for dessert. My mother enjoyed her fillet of beef with caramelised onion and beef shin--she'd never had that before and was very pleasantly surprised! We shared all the deserts--all very delightful, you can't go wrong! The atmosphere is quaint, with the cafe sitting next to a gothic church on a quiet street--even tho it's very close to the City Center. The cafe can fit about 10 tables of 2-4 people...if that. The service was some of the best I found in Scotland. They were attentive, asking how the meal was going and refilling drinks. I believe the US has some high standards of service, and the staff at Moonfish cafe were on top of things!

Yelp
Lovely dinner with friendly professional staff. Intimate small space near the cathedral. You will want to make a reservation to ensure your place at a table. The dinner menu is limited to three mains with appetizers and desserts, as well as wine and lots if gin cocktails. I enjoyed the chicken confit with lentils and my brave husband ordered the hake with black pudding, which we both found interesting.

Yelp
An excellent dinner here. A bright spot in an otherwise fairly dreary Aberdeen. There were some nice vegetarian possibilities. Nice whiskey selection. Excellent service. A calm and peaceful environment.

Yelp
The hake and broccoli was Devine. I savored every flavorful bite. I didn't have reservations for Lunch and was lucky and happy to get a Single seat.

Yelp
So I came here straight from the airport. My driver Kevin recommended it and I was happy he did. The place is really chill and it's cozy. The food is delicious. I had the salmon chickpeas and that was good. The bread with the truffle butter was also notable. My dessert is a chocolate meringue. I'm waiting for it while I am writing the review. I took a star off because I feel the wait for the food is a little long to what I am used to back home. But, I think it's all made to order. And if you are dining by yourself it feels longer. But, definitely happy here

Yelp
I just love this place. This is one of not so many restaurants I've been so far that deserve full 5 stars and for every time I've been there so far since they've opened! I love that little cosy atmosphere (no shouting of loud music) with the support of local artists, local sourcing of ingredients and fresh cuisine. No matter what I have tried - whether fish, meat or vegetable dish, all of them are full of lovely taste but not too overpowering. Also, I don't normally drink gin and tonic - but if you go there, try! In the evening they have their special cocktails - I've tried turkish delight and I could get drank on just that :] Little tip - the mood can change from the casual/hipster lunch to evening dressy dinner. If you go for a lunch you will get all the lovely treats a bit cheaper :) going at the evening is really for me just for special occasion as usually, they are overbooked anyway :O

Yelp
Moonfish was widely recommended to us for our visit to Aberdeen, and I booked a couple of weeks in advance for a Saturday night. Loads of people showed up on the night hoping to get a table - so that's my word of warning, if you want to eat here you'll have to book! The restaurant is in a bit of a strange location (but then, I think that's just Aberdeen) so you'll definitely want to check where you're going before you set out. It's a small, romantically-lit restaurant (read: dark, with candles) with nice artwork and the tables aren't too close together. The menu is pretty simple - it lists dishes in a very basic way so you might want to ask the waitress for more information as it doesn't necessarily give you an idea of what the dish is or how it's cooked. Two courses is £30.95 and we both started with a gin from the huge list. I ordered the seabass escabeche (with shallot, sweet corn, sour cream, dill) and then the venison (with squash, pearl onion, pear). We were treated to an amuse bouche of sweet potato soup and nutmeg which was possibly the smoothest soup I've ever eaten. The seabass was nicely presented with delicate sprigs of dill. I wasn't sure about the temperature as it was lukewarm which was a little unusual - I wouldn't say unpleasant, but it was odd. The sour cream was lovely and creamy and bought the whole dish together well. Again, the venison was lovely and a good sized portion with quite a few generous slices. It was nice having the sweet touches of squash and pear on the plate. We had a look at the dessert menu but then decided we were too stuffed and would instead head elsewhere for a cocktail. This place comes in at a solid 4-stars. There wasn't any one thing to stop it being that perfect 5 - the service was fine (perhaps a little too on the serious side) the food was lovely (but not out-of-this-world) and the price was pretty reasonable. I'm just not sure I'd rush back when I visit Aberdeen again.

Yelp
This restaurant is a must visit when in Aberdeen. The owner and staff were friendly and provided outstanding service. Meal portions were perfect, and each selection was prepared flawlessly. The Halibut and the lamb was scrumptious and the carrot cake was to die for! We will most definitely return!

Yelp
This little place gets noisy once it's restaurant is full (which is regular)! Delicious food, but even better Gin to accompany. Extensive list of local and imported gin to accompany dinner. The table water is served up in the empty bottles, nice touch. More towards the top end of the market for eating out, nice amuse bouche was given to us on recent business meal. Great place to head out with close friends or family too. Portion sizes a little small, but taste makes up for it.

Yelp
Had a great evening meal here, very inventive menu, the scallop / black pudding starter was excellent and the main courses all seemed good. Portion sizes are not large so enjoyed the cheese plate as well. Small restaurant so you should book in advance, it can be a bit noisy but the staff were very helpful.

Yelp
A strong contender for favourite restaurant in Aberdeen: a great little hideaway where you'll spend as long choosing your gin as you will choosing your food. Delicious!

Yelp
Fabulous food near the center of town. It's busy so be prepared to wait. My wife and I both enjoyed our lunch.
