Where to Eat and Drink in Tasmania

"One of the island's older vineyards offering tastings of estate wines and sprawling grounds to explore, often paired with access to on-site art installations and a chance to experience wine directly from the cellar." - Regan Stephens Regan Stephens Regan Stephens is an award-winning freelance writer living in Philadelphia. We only had starters here to try with the views and some wine. Wine was really delicious and the starter we had was a truffle mushroom sundae with brioche. This was really delicious all together and unique. The views were lovely. However, the service was pretty poor. Repeated requests for additional wine and long delays in bringing the orders back. A shame as we would have liked to have stayed longer, but we didn't have the time.

My fiance and I had a great time at Moorilla. Our host, a guy from Adelaide, is very knowledgable at not only wine but also history of Mona. Really appreciated his curating and customer service. Thank YOU!

A lovely addition to a mona visit. Views from tasting room delightful - especially after spending a good amount of time underground at Mona. Staff were knowledgeable, fun and passionate about wine. Well worth the $20 for a tasting.

Nice place to chill after exploring MONA. Pumpkin soup with Dahl was amazing!

Hey peps, this is the winery cellar door site NOT MONA. Yes it is located above MONA but this site is for reviews about the cellar door NOT MONA. Great food on offer, however the Thai fish salad that sounded delish was sold out at 2:30pm on a Thursday. The hommus plate was very tasty and had GF bread option (Hooray!) Moorilla wine was very nice, but served in plastic - Yuck! (just wrong). Get some glassware.

Sep 2023. Stopped by for a late Saturday lunch with the partner prior to proceeding into the MONA museum. We ordered glasses of wine and shared the Hummus Plate, which was delicious and textural. Unfortunately, pita bread was a little oily. Casual ambience with indoor and outdoor seating available. Order and pay at the counter. Efficient and friendly service. Bit on pricy end but not outrageous. Overall, a decent lunch experience within MONA.

Fantastic cellar door and wines at MONA and a great way to end the day! Would absolutely recommend. Our host Jesse was an absolute gem and looked after us so well. His knowledge was extensive and we learnt so much about the wines, the history of the cellar door, MONA and even gave us some tips on Hobart (we were visiting from interstate). Very friendly and welcoming. Make sure to book and secure your spot although walk ins are OK. We booked 3:30 and it was perfect for sitting and relaxing (after a day of walking) and enjoying some wines before the last 5pm ferry back to Hobart.

This is my 3rd trip to MONA and somehow I had not known previously that the food element to this place existed (maybe because it’s called a Wine Bar I might have thought it was a cellar door?). Anyway, this trip we got to go prior to visiting the museum and were extremely surprised by the food on offer. This place is like fine dining without the pretentious people / restaurant which is okay by us. We had the oysters, God’s Mezze and the King Prawn Poke Bowl to share. The dishes were packed with flavour, super delicious and plentiful. The staff were super friendly, the restaurant was very spacious and the food came out quickly. All pluses in our book. Would definitely recommend you include it for your next trip to MONA.

Yelp
Moorilla is a winery located on the same grounds as the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Berriedale. To visit the MONA and Moorilla, you can take the MONA Ferry across the Derwent River to reach it. I decided to opt for the Posh Pit seating and as part of that package, they offer a free ticket for a tour of the winery that I decided to take up. On my way to the MONA and Moorilla on the ferry, they served Moorilla's sparkling riesling which was nice and crisp. I think I may have had too much, but I guess it seemed fitting to be a little drunk when you are going to a "weird art" museum. After spending a short time at the museum, I had to leave to head over to the winery for the tour. When I got there, one of the staffers served up a small glass of sauvignon. The winery tour was short as it was just a half hour. There are some other tours offered by the winery that are a bit longer. Check their website for more details. During the tour, I was able to taste a few wines that were still in the aging process as I checked out the facility where they store the wine. Some of them were not quite drinkable yet, but it was nice to see the production process for wine. If you are visiting the MONA, I would recommend checking out the winery whether for a tour or tasting. Particularly if you haven't been to a winery before as it was the case for me.
