Mopani Rest Camp

Mopani was a very nice camp, but a lack of maintenance is visible all throughout the camp. The reception staff was very friendly and very helpful. The reception itself does have AC units inside, but only the fans work and apparentlyfor quite a while. Considering the price, the bungalow was way below par. The microwave, fridge, utensils and cookware are all old and over used. It doesn’t feel “clean” to use them. The stove gets hot, but not hot enough for cooking. The AC works, but doesn’t have fins to direct airflow. There is a stench of bats and the bat droppings on the veranda needed sweeping quite a lot throughout my stay. There seems to be a bat infestation that they are losing control over. This seems to be a common problem among other guests I spoke to. One guest had to change units because his unit was unbreatheable due to bat stench. All and all it is still inside the Kruger and the pool is great. The restaurant offers affordable sides for your braai and the shop is stocked well. If it wasn’t inside the Kruger, I would not have gone back again.

A well run rest camp. Our defective air conditioning unit was replaced immediately. Our guides on the guided drive were informative, entertaining and friendly. All staff have been very obliging. One has to accept that some facilities are a bit worn and/or rustic. Drives revealed lovely game sightings. All roads in the area of the park are beautifully maintained. Overall a very positive experience.

The location of the camp is as impressive as Oliphant, as it's built on a bluff overlooking the dam. This means that the trail and cafe terrace are great spots for seeing game. Equally impressive is the magnificent baobab tree in the centre. Game viewing often starts as soon as you leave the entrance gate, with both antelope, buffalo and leopard being spotted on the short drive to the main road T junction. The cafe and shop are great.

We haven't stayed here yet, but the restaurant is fantastic. Beautiful views of the dam and excellent food. Service can be a little slow, so don't come if you're in a hurry. But if you've got the time, enjoy the views.

You can't go wrong with Mopani. The units are spacious and cool thanks to their old rock and mortar walls. The restaurant with its lovely view is a treat. The swimming pool beautiful, well tended to and in a lovely spot. And the setting of Mopani on the koppie overlooking the Pionier dam is just perfect. The service at the restaurant can be a bit slow at times but maybe it's not a bad thing to be forced to slow down a bit and just spend time to appreciate the setting.

Just magnificent. We had a western dam view and it was spectacular. The chalet was very comfortable with everything needed to prepare our own food comfortably. Enough inside amd outside seating.

Very good views if you are lucky to have a cabin at the dam view site as we were. Braai is very simple and too far away from cabin, need to climb that makes it uncomfortable for elderly people. Restaurant serves good food, but very tip greedy personnel. Rooms outdated.
