Highlights

Nestled along the Pioneer Dam in Kruger National Park, Mopani Rest Camp offers a mix of serene views and modern amenities, but lacks the authentic bush charm.

We love Mopani Camp. We stay in Bungalows where everything works. The air conditioner is an old noisy model, upgrades are on their way. The shop had everything we needed providing that we went early. I can't remember names. The receptionist was friendly and very helpful despite the last minute check-in. The lady petrol attendant was very helpful cleaning front and back windows and asking if she can adjust the tyre pressure.

If you are looking for an outdoor experience but still want to be connected Mopani rest camp is for you. The rooms I must say are not 5 star but you will have comfortable sleep. The Game drives in the morning for me was very nice, we got to see many animals.

Mopani is a wonderful place. Spacious cabins for couples, families and friends. A lot of effort is going into keeping Mopani in proper shape. The restaurant is very recommendable, the shop is well stocked. Staff is very kind and helpful. It pays to treat them with the respect they deserve. Mopani. As the name implies, there are *lots* of elephants here.

Stunning camp, we spent 5 nights here and we loved it! The bungalow was neat and clean, with lots of activity around from squirrels to a large spotted genet, just make sure you keep all your food and drink inside the bungalow as the the baboons and honey badgers raid your kitchen. Thank you Mopani for such a wonderful stay!

This was our 3rd visit to Mopani and by far the worst ever - we checked in after a long drive, unpacked the car only to find we had no tap or water in the unit - so we called reception and they said they would move us and bring the key, needless to say we packed the car and had to drive to reception to collect the key as it was now dark and we needed to unpack. The chalet was grubby and the smell of bat urine was horrible, whilst I understand that is part of nature, the smell was in the curtains, perhaps a good wash would have helped. Whilst I love this camp, the honey badgers, buck and squirrels are entertaining it was sad to see how poorly this camp is being run - also see review of Mopani restaurant, far worse than the camp

Mopani is a typical Kruger camp with reasonable accommodation although most things in the unit are either broken or just working. The badly designed restaurant served some good honest food. They have a well kept pool and a well stocked shop. They can have all the above and we will still go because they are situated inside the most wonderful place in South Africa. Location, Location makes them get away with murder.

Mopani Rest Camp is a beautiful and serene getaway in the northern region of Kruger. The camp is perched above Pioneer Dam, offering breathtaking views—especially at sunrise and sunset. We loved sitting on the veranda of our bungalow, watching hippos, birds, and even the occasional elephant come down to the water. The accommodation is clean, spacious, and well-equipped, with a real sense of privacy thanks to the natural layout and indigenous vegetation. The camp has a peaceful, uncrowded feel, making it perfect for anyone wanting to escape the busier southern camps. The restaurant overlooks the dam and is a lovely spot for a meal or a sundowner. The shop was well-stocked with essentials. Game viewing in the area can be more about quality than quantity, but we were rewarded with great elephant sightings, buffalo herds, and beautiful birdlife. The nearby Shipandani Hide and Tsendze Loop are excellent spots for quiet, scenic drives. Mopani is perfect for travelers looking for comfort, calm, and a more remote Kruger experience. We left feeling completely recharged.

The good point about this camp is that it is in a very nice position, with nice views from the restaurant. The bad points are that housekeeping was appalling, maintenance was poor, and there was a bat infestation. The management need to pull their socks up.
