For a landmark thats considered historic, it's an embarrassment getting there. There are no proper roads and it's like driving through a safari with overgrown bushes scratching your vehicle. The journey to the Lighthouse could have been shorter had there been proper roads. When you finally get there you can't go on the property. It's not accessible to the public. Additionally the Lighthouse is not maintained physically. I'm not sure if it works still but the government could look to do a better job at possibly making this an attraction for locals and tourists alike

Morant Point Lighthouse is supposed to be the tallest and oldest lighthouse on all the island. It rests at the most easterly point on the island... which is essentially at the edge of the island. I read that it was built around 1841, and we're in 2025, so you know the light house has stood the test of time. It's impressive since it's mostly metallic and is so very close to the sea... cuz ya know, salt water greatly rusts metal. A caretaker is based on the grounds, but they aren't always there. You can, at times, go inside the lighthouse and walk to the top of it, but most times the door is closed. When you do get a chance to go up top, you're given some great views of the seaside and experience some really rough winds The drive from Duckenfield to get to the lighthose is a good distance away. The road condition aint too good either, but if you take your time, you can reach there. When you're driving towards the lighthouse, you'll come across a little beach too.

It was difficult to get there. There really wasn't a road but a track filled with overgrown bushes. We got close (saw it in the distance) but not actually to the lighthouse. Honestly, the journey felt like we were travelling to the end of the earth. Not likely to attempt visiting there again. Disappointed!

A very challenging drive is rewarded with arriving at the easternmost point in Jamaica. Roads will be difficult for sedans. 4WD or AWD vehicles recommended to navigate the rutted, uneven, muddy roads. Google Maps might give confusing directions at a few points based on cell signal. Ask for directions in Duckenfield before heading off the major road if this happens. Nature lovers will enjoy the rolling pastures and cattle, birds and mangroves of the Great Morass that have to be traversed from Duckenfield to the coast.

The journey was a amazing, from Urban St Thomas into that 1 hour plus narrow road way to the edge of Jamaica to see this historical marvel is worth it. Taking travel buddies along is indeed a good idea, especially in remote areas or places with limited infrastructure. They can provide support, companionship, and help in case of any unexpected situations. My last visit was with a new gate by port authority compared to the old iron swing most have become familiar with. Entry is still available through the walls or the gate if open to the public.

It's far from civilization but worth the drive through the cane fields. Make sure you have 4wd, and bring bug spray lots of mosquitoes and sandflies. If you can climb up to the top of the lighthouse do it.

Euphoric experience being at the very tip of the eastern end of the island. Just have to be willing to drive across acres and acres of expansive farmlands to get there. Many cows and fences, but the road itself is pretty straightforward. Know that there's a huge gate and fencing of the property by the PAJ, we parked outside and walked in.

Very long drive to get to. Unpaved road. Beautiful scenery. No food or drinks. Beautiful lighthouse. Not sure how to make appt for visit but was accessible. Someone around at times.
