This Pennsylvania Main Street Was Named No. 1 in the Country

"Housed in an early 18th-century log structure long in continuous use, this museum occupies one of the largest surviving period log buildings and interprets the community's 18th-century history; it sits just steps from the main corridor on a nearby street." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. The Latest UNESCO World Heritage Site Nominee Is a U.S. Destination You Might Not Expect

"The Historic Moravian Bethlehem District in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, encompasses the community’s oldest surviving buildings and preserves what was once the center of Moravian religious activity. It consists of religious, domestic, and industrial components, showing the full scope of Moravian community life in a North American context. The district, which spans around 14 acres, includes more original structures than Colonial Williamsburg and features the district’s 1741 community house, believed to be the largest 18th-century log structure in continuous use in the United States." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Wonderfully guided tour with informative descriptions, providing answers to my many questions. Nancy was knowledgeable and personable and explained each room in detail showing off many artifacts from bygone days. History is so well preserved and built to last. A very enjoyable experience.

Beautiful buildings and interesting little exhibits; however, the tour was quite short and our tour guide wouldn’t answer questions and frequently ignored us. Many of the buildings were empty and the overall layout was very confusing. Maybe worth visiting just in your own to walk around.

Such a rich German immigrant history here. We had no idea before the tour. We purchased the 3 locations guided tour. It was about 45 minutes and we were taken to 3 Moravian buildings. We also saw the first (or maybe oldest) horse-drawn fire engine in the USA. Beautiful architecture.

Our tour guide was so proud to be Moravian, and it showed in her telling us about her people and the building! I do have to say there were a few facts on the tour that happened to be downright incorrect (like Saxony is in the south of Germany), but it didn't hamper my experience at all. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and can stand for long periods of time. There are seats in the first couple of rooms but not really after that. The hard wood floors can make your calves ache if you're not wearing good shoes!
