One of my favorite art places. Nice big spec with monthly exhibitions. They have 40-50 artists work out of this place and they also have an artist in residence program. Clay art might not be on top of many people but I bet you a crisp $2 bill you will like what they have. Very diverse works - by individual artists, group shows, curated monthly themed shows. Even if you don’t like art that much- you can score amazing tableware items! And during second Saturday artwork, they even serve drinks and snacks as you stroll through the center. And as an added bonus, the building also host the wonderfully cozy and very tasty Spanish themed restaurant Lolita.

The Morean Center for Clay is a phenomenal facility. The teachers and staff are wonderful and the members are passionate talented artists. I was able to help fire some of the special atmospheric kilns they have outside. Just a great great experience being there! I learned so much.

This working clay studio offers finished pieces interspersed between friendly potters at work. ALEX gave me info on the many events and activities offered here, including a one-time class for my 3 years old grandkids. The clay center is housed in an old rail station. I explored some of the massive kilns outdoors, adding to the artistic ambiance. Free entry and worth a visit, esp to an artist opening.

Watched a very interesting and educational free glass blowing demonstration at Morean. if you've never visited and seen their demonstrations and galleries I highly recommend it! They also have classes in glass and a variety of other mediums.

Such a cool place! We did a hand clay class with kiddos and they loved it! Staff was awesome and so helpful. Can’t wait to come back and check out Lolita’s Resturant and wine market!

A potter's paradise. From beginners to advanced students, this Clay Center has everything you ever wanted or needed. Stunning location, incredible staff, and just one of my favorite places to play with clay. If you are into alternative firings, be sure to check out their workshops and other opportunities. Absolutely incredible place for a ceramic artist.

Wonderful extension of the Morean Arts center. Ever wanted to get your hands dirty throwing clay pots? This is the place for you. Classes for every level and membership opportunities for studio time. Kids classes and camps too!

I took the friday clay class and had a blast! My instructor was nina and she was very patient and guided us through the process. By the end I went from barely upright blob to good looking bowl!

Yelp
My first time visiting here - we came because I saw on social media that they were having a pottery sale. We showed up at 10 am when it was supposed to start, but clearly that was just a suggested time, because some of the artists had not even shown up yet, much less had their table with merchandise ready. The clay center is one of a few local Morean places; there is also the Morean Arts Center, and the Chihuly Collection on Central Ave. in St. Petersburg. We used the time waiting for the outside to be ready to wander around the inside of the clay shop. The building is an old railway station, and very interesting looking, with high ceilings and plenty of space for the makers. Merchandise was for sale on shelves up and down the walls. There were many different items for sale ranging from bowls, mugs, and plates to sculptures, all created by different artists in their own personal styles. We found out later that many of the artists were just bringing their inside work out to tables outside. I love that they have an "artists in residence" program - I saw one of their artists, Tyler Quintin, at a craft show and loved his work, followed him on social media, and then heard about this show. The best part of the day was watching a Raku pottery demonstration. It was amazing! After a second firing, the pottery was coated with a glaze in front of us, and then put in a trashcan with burning newspaper for a final firing. So neat! It looks like they offer a variety of classes, as well as intro-to-clay parties you can host for friends. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
I have only been here a few times for events that they hold and have always enjoyed coming. Browsing the artists' work is really fun and most of the artists are very nice and explain their process and how some of their pottery is made. I've purchased some great things here! Cool looking mugs, planters, plates. Love how unique each piece is. Almost everything inside the building is for sale, and most of it is decently priced. They have rotating art exhibits right when you enter to the right. Really cool pieces to look at. There was also a unique spoon exhibit towards the center of the building the last time I was there. It's like going to a museum for free lol. You just wander the aisles and look at the beautiful clay work. We usually end up spending about 1-2 hours here. And plan to come back at least once a month as long as they keep holding their events. :)

Yelp
I made an appointment to view this venue as a potential location for my wedding. Ryan texted me 8 minutes before the appointment was supposed to begin with instructions for when I arrive. When we arrived everything was locked up and no one was available to show the site. I texted Ryan and he said he had already left because I didn't respond to his text. My appointment time was scheduled for 10:30-11:00 and it was 10:33. Very unprofessional in my opinion as I had multiple people with me and we all coordinated and drove 45 minutes from Palm Harbor to view this site. From what we could see the event space was nice but had the views from the windows of the Highway. Not really my "dream venue" or the type of people I'd want to work with when planning an event like my wedding. I'll keep looking.

Yelp
Located at 22nd Street South in St. Petersburg, Florida, the Morean Arts Center for Clay is housed in the Historic Seaboard Train Station along with St. Petersburg Clay Company and Highwater Clays. Also onsite at the Train Station are a variety of kilns including the legendary Anagama kiln built by master potter Don Reitz. Since our brochure for the Chihuly included this address, we decided to check it out. It's a pretty cool location, and the first thing you will see are all the outdoor kilns. Very cool. The center is toward the back of the complex, and when we walked in, we saw no one. We looked at a very limited number of pieces on the wall. We saw numerous potter's wheels through a door... But we saw not a living soul. We ducked through a door to Highwater Clays (http://www.yelp.com/biz/highwater-clays-florida-saint-petersburg), which is an supply store for those who work in clay. We later learned this location is more about teaching, not retailing. If you are in the area, you should visit the St. Petersburg Clay Company (http://www.yelp.com/biz/st-petersburg-clay-co-saint-petersburg), which houses numerous artists and has many many many items for sale. If you are doing the Morean tour (St. Petersburg Arts Experience*), your ticket will include entry to the Morean Center for Clay. The cool thing about the tour ticket, is that you have 30 days to visit the four locations (however you can only visit each location once). There is the Chihuly Collection (http://www.yelp.com/biz/morean-arts-center-st-petersburg), there is the "Morean Arts Center" (http://www.yelp.com/biz/http://www.yelp.com/biz/morean-arts-center-st-petersburg-arts-center-st-petersburg-3), there is the "Morean Glass Studio & Hotshop" (http://www.yelp.com/biz/morean-glass-studio-and-hotshop-st-petersburg), and there is the "Morean Center for Clay" (http://www.yelp.com/biz/morean-center-for-clay-st-petersburg). * We found a $2 off coupon for the St. Petersburg Arts Experience in one of the local Welcome Guide-Map brochures.

Yelp
Great facility with great instructors. Unfortunately the quality of the experience of going here is ruined by the rude and obnoxious interactions one must endure from the director of the facility when you're there. It's amazing how many employees and members she has run off and still has a job. I tried for 2 years and will not go back until she is gone!

Yelp
This wonderful art center saved my sanity in the pandemic. They held safe classes with air circulation, social distancing and caring instructors. Many art centers are just for beginners... this is a place where beginners feel at home and professionals can grow! I've learn so much from my inspirational senses Jan Richardson! The additional open studio option gave me the tone I needed to excel.

Yelp
Was here for a wedding in January. It is a very nice venue and the manager was very helpful and great to work with. The facilities were very clean and it is a very pretty setting with lots of options to choose from. Great place for a wedding or any formal event.

Yelp
There was no instruction on how to use the wheel. There was very little instruction! This is not for beginners! I paid for 6 classes and was told to keep hand building mushrooms. It was a relaxing two hours away from home but I could have gotten the same result walking on the beach for free. I would never take another class here again! Even the Mushrooms I made for my garden took the whole six weeks to complete due to the lack of instruction in the glazing process! I will be going to a different studio .

Yelp
Things must have changed since the first review. The whole front half of the building is packed with finished clay items. Great place to go whether to buy of just admire. The first time I went only a couple of artists were working. The second time there were perhaps six. All were willing to talk a bit about their work, some a lot more than a bit. I previously thought of clay in terms of bowls and cups. So statues and such were a surprise to me. Some days the center offers a beginner class. I thing the term is spinning. Anyway, people end up with something simple they made themselves. I have visited twice now and will visit again. Five stars because I can't imagine a better combo museum art sales place and artists workshop. Places that just do one can beat it in a single category.

Yelp
I went here for Meet the Chefs St Pete. We got to the event early so we were able to walk around the clay shop/school. The area is pretty large. I hope to take a pottery class there soon. There was a wide open area for the event. The event space also had an outside patio. There's seating below on a grassy area with picnic tables as well. The event itself was really fun. We had meals from different restaurants all with beer pairings.

Yelp
I was scheduled to attend an Empty Bowls on 2/2/16 at 6PM at Morean Center for Clay. I was very interested in attending the workshop but my experience was negative. 1. I got lost and had to call Ben the instructor on his Cell (727-512-9313)to get directions after giving me the address Ben thought the telephone line was disconnected but I heard him saying to the fact that oh another person who doesn't know how to get here in a sarcastic manner. Let me clarify something first I heard about this on a meetup notification, which gave the street address without mention of it being Morean Center for Clay. When I got there at 6:05pm the signage for where to enter was not clear so I knocked on the door and saw 2 people who looked away and ignored me at the door. so I went in to the entrance by the reception desk which was closed so I walk around and asked the first person I met so I asked where the class for Bowls for Good was she explained the signage inside and out was confusing. And when I told what had happened at the other entrance she said the snack bar was not part of the center and they did not have to help patrons. I mentioned that since it was dusk and I was a single lady alone knocking needing help that it would have been considerate to get someone to assist me got a rude response this not my concern from her . Again I got the same rude reponse this not my concern from her and I asked if she would want herself or her mother to be treated the way I was when trying to figure out the entrance. I asked her where the class was and she rudely said upstairs I asked her to escort me since I was not familiar with the building and her response was "you are pushing it" with a harsh tone and intimidating stair almost like she was going to call the police. The was my first and it will be my last visit to this Morean Center for Clay but I wanted you to be aware of the type of reception that some patrons are receiving

Yelp
Very amazing location to get away and see all of he different forms of ceramics and how they're made. The people truly take their time to make sure the building and the people in it are nothing less than the best, and the events show for it too. The event space for parties and things of that nature is beautiful and rustic with vaulted ceilings and color changing lights. I have never seen any place like this one, it seriously can't be beat.

Yelp
My husband and I booked tickets on December 16th for a clay class. The receipt we received had no address on it, so we used google which brought us to the central st location. After this I contacted the center who alerted me that "most people verify the address" but with The technology we have on our phones, I figured simply typing the center would bring me where I need to go being there was no specific address in the invoice. The company accommodated to have my husband and I come in for the 15th, however on the date of the 15th my husband received his results that he has COVID and we will need to quarantine. I understand this is a nonprofit, but with $60 tickets, and a very valid excuse to not show up and endanger the rest of the class I wanted to either reschedule after quarantine, but the company was unable to work with us. I feel that with the proof of a positive test, and the times we are dealing with, this should have been taken with compassion and flexibility outside of protocol. It is very disappointing because with the stressful year we have all had, compassion would have went a long way. Luckily St Pete is filled with other art classes, but I do not suggest giving business to such a strict environment who is suppose to be based on teaching creative mediums

Yelp
a wonderful place! If it weren't for the extremely ill-mannered manager, Valerie Scott Knaust, I would give it five stars.

Yelp
Without a doubt, this is the best place to make or purchase pottery and ceramic art in the area, probably the region. The teachers and staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The artists are very welcoming and generous with their time and knowledge. They also have a stellar event space. If you are looking for a place to throw a party or a wedding, this is it. It's gorgeous. Cathedral ceilings, huge beams, arched windows with a view of the trail... Can't beat it. Check this place out!
