The staff (Chuck, Ginny, Amanda) made stay at Morgan State House Inn memorable. This gilded age mansion is beautiful as it is historic. It’s so nice to have coffee or breakfast at the back garden. The room at the #399 property, a few door down from the main inn at #393, was charming but could use some updating of the bathroom fixtures and the carpet. Location-wise, it borders a park and is walking distance to the restaurants on Lark Street. But if your main reason in Albany involves the Capitol or surrounding businesses, there are more convenient places to stay,

I stayed at this quaint bed and breakfast while on a quick overnight trip for a conference. I booked the night before and sent a text to the number on the website. The owner responded immediately and was so nice. ||I stayed in the artist loft on the top floor. It was a gorgeous room full of light. I don't a dreamy evening there reading and listening to the rain. I was able to walk to my favorite restaurant and wine store. The inn has snacks and is just so clean and well kept. The owners are so friendly. There is breakfast every morning, always tea and coffee and snacks like apple cinnamon muffins (homemade!) available. ||There are quite a few stairs to get to the top floor. If you have mobility issues definitely reach out to the owners and they will recommend the best room. Also, there is protected parking. Love this place! When I return I will stay. Thank you for having me!

A great refuge in Downton Albany. Comfortable beds. I had a large room with kitchen and living area. It was quiet, warm and cozy. Friendly staff. A great alternative to a hotel. Would be great for a long term stay. Lots of details like power strips everywhere, robes, and other amenities. They accommodated a few special needs and Were friendly and attentive. A great place to land as a weary traveller.

Google
This is a great choice if you are visiting the Capitol building or complex. It is a short 10-15 minute walk and a great alternative to finding parking. The rooms vary but we loved each we stayed in on our two visits. We will be back.

I stayed in Albany for a NY state government related event and was happy to find the Morgan State House Inn. Gorgeous old townhouse charm on a great park, near a fun section of bars and coffee shops. I will stay at Morgan State House Inn every single time I go to Albany. The rooms were clean and charming, and the service was helpful. Great decision!

Google
We loved the Morgan State House. It was our first visit to Albany and the staff and owner made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived till our departure. We loved being in a historic building that has been so lovingly maintained. Our room was very spacious which made us feel like royalty. Janine and Leo helped us get settled in and to decide where to dine. The location is close to the capital and other landmarks as well as the very charming Lark Street with all its wonderful restaurants and shops. We also loved that it was across the street from Washington Park which we took a nice walk before heading to the airport.

Cute, clean, spacious rooms located in charming brownstone right in front of Washington Park! Staff was friendly and informative, great spot with lots of charm and history, would definitely stay again.

Positive: The staff were nice and accommodating. Negative: Breakfast was horrible (old muffins and packages of bagels). The room was hot with a very old AC. The parking is inconvenient.

Yelp
I recently stayed a few nights at The Morgan State House Inn and had a mostly pleasant stay. I thought I was staying in their main house, but they actually had my room a couple doors down in some studios that are apparently also part of the inn. Not a big deal, but I don't know that this is something you'll really know until check-in. The building a few doors down where I stayed also appeared to be historic though a bit less grand on the main level than the main house. The lobby of the building was festively decorated for the holiday. With the bright windows, a sofa, Christmas music playing, and a tree twinkling, one afternoon I couldn't resist getting a little work done in the lobby. My room was cozy with a small kitchenette, bed, arm chairs, and desk. The arm chairs are cute but not very comfortable. The desk was perfectly positioned overlooking the windows, which made for a great spot to work. The bed was pretty uncomfortable and probably needs to be replaced (it was sinking on both sides with a high spot in the middle). For my solo traveling girlies: +The inn is not staffed all night +Doors have old fashioned keys, deadbolts, and chains +The surrounding neighborhood seems nice and safe enough +Parking is slightly off site and requires walking around the block or through the back of the property. If you don't need to bring a car, I'd opt for uber +I think there may be some permanent residents in the additional property (a couple doors down from the main house) All and all, it's a beautiful, historic property, which is one of my favorite sorts to stay in. I wouldn't likely stay there again solo, but would absolutely stay with my partner!

Yelp
This was an excellent stay for is. We were only here for one night since we were on our way to the Sheep & Wool Festival in Rhinebeck the next morning. The inn is in an old section of Albany and most of the townhouses date back to the time of the Civil War or slightly earlier. This one was built in the 1850s and features a lot of dark wood and plaster scroll work on the walls. There is a bow window with seats on the first floor in the front and you can sit there and look at Washington Park. Our room was on the third floor facing away from the park. It was very spacious with a separate hallway and large bathroom. The bathroom and bedroom were decorated in a vintage style and everything was very clean. As an engineer, one thing that really gets me upset is when things do not work in hotel/inn rooms. I am happy to report that everything worked perfectly here. In the morning, breakfast is available from 7:00 to 10:30. It is buffet style in the kitchen. They had muffins, yogurt, fruit, coffee, tea and a mushroom tart. Once you served yourself, you can eat anyplace on that floor. Checkout was quick and easy after breakfast. We enjoyed our stay and will return.

Yelp
My stay was nothing short of perfect. The owners could not have been more lovely or accommodating. Both buildings are just stunning and pristine. I stayed in the efficiency apartments that are absolutely beautiful, spotlessly clean and nothing was left to chance. I had a lovely living area ,beautiful bathroom, a long hot bath and a view of the park. Tree line streets the area is safe. I dinned at a place recommended by the hosts, Dove and Deer, which was great as well, All around fantastic day I'll be back

Yelp
I wanted a boutique experience, but ended up kind of disappointed. First, I booked a stay in the main house but due to renovations that were taking place I was placed in the studios a few doors down. I was notified with plenty of time to make other accomodations, but since I was only going to be there for one evening I just decided to keep the reservation. My review may be different if I were in the main house. Great communication with the actual front desk to ensure that someone was there to meet me for a slightly after hours (7pm) check in. When I arrived I was able to quickly find street parking and remained there for the duration of my stay. This is a little bit hard to find as it blends in with the other houses on the street and truthfully, I was expecting a lot nicer of an area. The area felt "safe" but was definitely downtown in the city so be aware of that if you are thinking this is some suburban space--it's not. The studio room that we had was on the third floor and had a nice kitchen, bathroom, and main bedroom/living room. More than enough space for the evening and truthfully, the bed was pretty comfortable with the exception of the pillows (I like more firm!). I also enjoyed the amenities like bottled water and popcorn in the fridge. We didn't shower there so cannot comment on the water situation, but it is an old building. Great dining spots within walking distance, but again... city walking. My mom was with me and didn't feel entirely comfortable walking in the area, but honestly I felt it was safe to walk (even after dark--this is the historic district). Everything was extremely clean, but note that there is no conditioner available in the room (they probably have it if you ask). I also liked that they provided makeup wipes in the bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was not fresh items as other reviewers had indicated--I had a muffin that was wrapped in plasticwrap (definitely store purchased) but local coffee and yogurts were also available. Overall, I paid 189.00 for one night which was reasonable. I really wish I had the opportunity to stay in the original room I had booked in the mainhouse. I probably would not stay again, but everyone I encountered was friendly and the room was clean.

Yelp
Amazing hospitality!! We were made to feel at home, the hosts went above and beyond for us. The most comfortable bed ever! The kitchen was fully stocked and available at all times. The house is absolutely beautiful and charming. The room was very spacious, nice view of the park. Beautiful windows.

Yelp
We had a really lovely stay here when we collaborated with Discover Albany to do a collection of posts. My photographer stayed in 2F and I stayed in 4B... what an amazing Inn! What I really loved was how differently each room felt. Both were classy, clean, and filled with light. Speaking of light - if you require blackout shades in your life, 4B is not for you (without an eye mask) cuz there's a 10'x10' skylight slanted directly above your bed... and she has no shades (which I personally love... but I have friends who would not deal well with that, hence I'm sharing). Their staff is kind and all who we spoke with were helpful. Another bonus is that there were lots of walkable places to experience (search more of my Yelps) and if we did take a car, it was a 5/10 minute ride. Search #MetroVentureALB on Instagram for a better taste of our Albany Experience.

Yelp
Absolutely lovely stay. The inn is well kept and beautifully appointed. We stayed in the fourth floor artist loft and it was nothing short of breathtaking. The walk up the four flights was well worth it for the exposed brick, large en suite soaking tub, and an abundance of natural light from beautiful skylights. One of the most romantic rooms I've ever stayed in! Breakfast is a help yourself relaxed spread, but the stand outs are most definitely the fresh baked cookies, cakes and muffins. Best enjoyed in the front room overlooking the park. Parking is available for an additional $10 a night in a secured lot behind the building, however the walk back to the main house at night felt a bit unsafe as the area is pretty run down. Great stay. If I ever find myself back in Albany for another wedding, I'll definitely be back to the Morgan House!

Yelp
The Morgan State House Inn exceeded our expectations in every way. Beautiful, clean, quiet, and a terrific location. Staff were very friendly and helped us stow our bicycle and gear in the garage. They recommended a great restaurant that was a few blocks away. Our room was beautiful, good wifi, TV, and most of all quiet. Fresh brewed coffee in the morning and a great breakfast selection. We decided to eat in the garden which was lovely. We look forward to staying again.

AJ C.

Yelp
We stayed in a studio apt overlooking the park. It exceeded expectations, all around. Friendly staff, clean, spacious, etc. Highly recommended MSH for your next trip to the Capital!

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel, which offers more of a bed and breakfast feel. They have the main state house and then the rooms in the tower. I highly recommend staying here versus a big name hotel. It was more affordable and cozier, much like staying at a friend's house. I prefer that experience in a hotel stay. It's never fun sleeping in a bed that isn't your own, so why not enjoy your stay in a place that feels like a home away from home. The bed was so comfortable. Lots of cozy blankets are a bonus, especially when staying somewhere in the dead of winter in NY. The room had a desk and chair nook, plus a mini kitchen (stove, silverware, plates, cups, microwave, fridge, etc.) Since it's an older building, it has some quirks. The wind howled, but I found it comforting because I need some noise in the background when I sleep. The water in the shower takes forever to warm up, so let it run. I could also hear footsteps and some noise from the room above me. I think the person just happened to be extra noisy. And, none of this was a deal breaker, I still had a wonderful stay. I loved the selection of coffee and breakfast items available in the state house. They serve breakfast each morning 7-10am. The coffee was good and strong, and again, it felt like I was staying at my aunt's house since it was a full kitchen, dining room, and living room -- very cozy and the staff is so friendly and helpful. The fridge was full of fruit and yogurt. There were english muffins and other breakfast foods. Continental breakfast kicked up a few notches. Also, they came to the rescue and didn't even know it. I left a bunch of toiletries at home, but was so relieved to see they had makeup remover face wipes. That was one of the first times I saw something like that as a toiletry provided by the hotel. Plus, free wifi! The hotel is also walking distance to Lark St, which has a bunch of restaurants. They also offer several coupons when you check in to nearby spots. Whenever I'm in Albany, this will be the first place I'll stay.

Yelp
This is a very cool place of 1800's brownstone history to stay if you're ever in the Capital District of Albany, NY. The Morgan State House is a great, homey place vs big hotel chains.

Michael S.

Yelp
We're staying this evening at the same property that "Truc U" mentioned. True, the room is not in the historic "main house." Our room is immaculate, faces the park and is a small suite for the same price (or less) for chain hotels in the area We are very pleased with the room and service. For less than the price at a H****n in the area we got a full kitchen, small dining area and spotless room. Delightful stay. It's a B&B, not a dull, homogeneous big chain. Adjust accordingly (please!).

Jon Paul S.

Yelp
The Morgan State House Inn is immaculate, clean, and run by very warm and hospitable people. The location is beautiful and our room entirely comfortable. I highly recommend a stay here.

Yelp
What a gem. This is a fantastic B&B with both turn of the century charm and boutique hotel feel. The property is in pristine condition thanks to a proprietor who has dedicated 20years to maintaining and improving the Inn. We stayed in room 4F and when we met him at breakfast and told him how much we loved the room he immediately replied with "yours is the next bathroom for me to redo". Admittedly the bathroom was a little tight and if I were an individual of larger build I could see it not really working, but then again it's on the 4th floor so if you book this room you need to be fit, as there is no elevator. The hotel is really given over to the guests during your stay; full use of the kitchen area at any time and at breakfast of you want to cook yourself an egg or two rather than eat from the selection of muffins, cereals and yoghurt, we'll go right ahead. The hotel is within walking distance of half a dozen decent restaurants and a could bars and as a guest you get discounts at many local spots (nice touch). Enjoy the charm and sophistication of this stately residence it is in a class of its own.

Yelp
Okay, before I say all the good things I'm going to say to justify my 4 stars, there are a few things you should know: 1) There are two places you can get a room: the state house proper and the apartment building next door. Both are great but, if you stay in the apartment building, you're going to find yourself thinking, "Hmmm, this sure does look like an apartment that got turned into a hotel room...." Because it was. And the apartment building is quite old--some will find it charming, others might not as much. 2) If you're staying in an apartment-room, you'll have to walk to the state house proper for breakfast (it's like a 10 second walk, though...) 3) Parking is weird, but it's Albany. You'll be given a spot in a lot that's a street away and it's sort of hard to get to...I suggest pulling up curbside and unloading your bags before parking. Okay, now, for the rest of it: it's great! I'd definitely stay here again. The breakfast spread didn't include anything hot but there are plenty of cereals, bread goods, fruits, etc. It's a very pretty old building and there's a nice outdoor seating area. WiFi is free and the beds/linens were very comfortable. The proprietors are super friendly and very accommodating. If you strongly prefer the feel of a brand-new Holiday Inn (which I'm not knocking...I love new Holiday Inns) then this place may not suit you. But if you've ever stayed in a B&B that's in an old building and you liked it, then you'll like the Morgan State House.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience! In Albany to attend a performance at the Park Playhouse, the inn was perfectly situated across from Washington Park. The staff is wonderful, I was upgraded to the large, beautiful, second floor suite overlooking the park. From the luxury queen bed, to the several sitting areas and spa like bathroom, every detail is beautifully selected to create a serene getaway mood. The common areas are lovely, impeccably maintained and inviting The garden is a gorgeous oasis of calm relaxation, perfect for breakfast or an late afternoon break. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the snacks and beverages stocked in the refrigerator and displayed on the kitchen counters. Recommendations for local restaurants and shops are given on check in, offered with house arranged discounts good during your stay. (Full disclosure, you may be awakened by early morning noise made by garbage removal or street construction) This is a wonderful choice tor anyone looking for an alternative to impersonal, corporate cookie cutter hotel options. I highly recommend it. http://statehouse.com/guest-rooms/2-park-queen-bed-with-working-fireplace/

Yelp
3.5 stars The studio (in an apt building) was perfect for us w a couch, desk, TV, wifi, small kitchen which we only used the fridge to store our food. Plenty of room. U can move ur car around every 2 hours on the street during the day and park in Washington park overnight or u can pay $10 for a gated parking spot behind the main house in which then u walk 5 minutes to get to the apt building. The location is walking distance to all the main attractions ( see my list) and many restaurants. con: they could easily fit a queen bed, but it's a full w a soft foam topper that's smaller than the bed and ours had a crinkle in the middle and it just sunk. The pillows just sunk too. I woke up w back and neck pain.

Yelp
At a glance this place seemed amazing. My husband and I stayed for two days during January. We were in the artists studio, or 4B. The first morning the room was extremely cold. We had the heat turned up to 80° and we had to wear sweaters to bed. The room never seemed to warm up all the way. Every room here seems to have a fireplace which is part of the charm. I really hoped to have a fire lit, but the one in the studio is hooked up to the radiator-so no ambient lighting. The room also was very dirty in small areas. It seemed clean until we dropped something under the bed. Upon finding it we saw broken glass, old wrappers, and hair in the dust. The place as a whole was lovely. They played easy listening music in the living room and the main areas of the home were welcoming and comfortable. (Through to speak to a staff member you have to call them on the phone, and then they come up from the basement. This was awkward at times). The location has good food around (amazing sushi at Shogun) and we were able to walk to food even in the cold. We would stay here again, but probably in a smaller room in hopes of it containing the heat better.

Yelp
Old world charm with modern amenities! My husband and I stayed for 1 night and we were blown away with this historic building! Grand staircase, formal sitting parlor, dining room, full kitchen stocked with food/drinks, and a serene backyard with climbing ivy, flowers, and several sitting areas. The staff was friendly and wonderful. ROOM: Our room was on the second floor in the front of the building overlooking the park. If you are sensitive to noise, I suggest selecting a room that is not streetside. You will hear cars pass by. However, Albany is a city so you will still hear the gentle hum of the passing cars and people walking/talking. The bathroom was lovely - floor to ceiling built-ins, tile flooring, lighting options, french doors, and a tub with jets. The feather bed and other furniture was very comfy. My husband and I felt right at home. PRICE: Worth every penny. Very affordable. Better than a big name hotel. Parking: There is only street parking. We arrived Saturday morning and departed Sunday afternoon. We did not have any issues with finding a parking space. DINING: The Inn is centrally located near tons of great restaurants - most of which are in walking distance. The hotel offers several coupons for local restaurants - take advantage! NOTE: There are not blinds or curtains on the windows however there are interior shutters for each window. They fold in/out of the window frame. OVERALL: Fantastic hotel experience - I highly recommend this unique Inn. My husband and I will be back.

Amy B.

Yelp
My husband and I booked a room for one night as a short getaway. We loved the feel of the place with all the original woodwork and large windows. Our room was not in the main building but one of the studios. The only complaint we had was that the heating pipes woke us up twice during the night with really, really loud banging. The neighborhood is fantastic for walking to restaurants and bars. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.

Yelp
Stayed there in early December and had a wonderful stay! I had initially had a bit of a hard time finding parking. Downtown Albany has some funky one way streets that all kind of funnel you into one direction and cause you to have to do a lot more driving that would normally be necessary. Eventually, I called and asked about parking, which they informed me is available for a $10 fee. Being the miser I am, I opted to do a bit more to try to find free street parking. Finally, I found my spot on the street directly behind the Morgan State House, As I was leaving my car, a man who was parking in his garage noticed me and asked if I was a guest at the M.S.H., to which I replied in the affirmative. He identified himself as the owner, and invited me to enter through the garage. I complied, and followed him into the property of the main house. The main house is a beautiful, historical building that is very well maintained and decorated. The owner introduced me to the manager on duty, an cautious or perhaps even tempered young man. He escorted me to my room in the other building, but upon arriving at the building and riding int he elevator, I told him I might not be comfortable with the elevator due to my elevator phobia. I expected him to point out the stairway, but instead, after talking to the owner, I was invited to stay in one of their nicest rooms in the main house! They asked if I would like that, and though I hadn't even seen the room I was booked to stay in, I enthusiastically agreed because while the building with the standard rooms seems nice, by comparison, the vibe of the main house is really incredible. The manager showed me to my upgraded digs and I was very impressed. The room was huge, beautiful, historical, with an gorgeous, newly remodeled en suite bathroom. The bed was beautifully done, and supremely comfortable. I took my time at the Morgan Sate House Inn, eating the complimentary continental breakfast during the last hour (and going a bit late), chatting with another guest at breakfast, checking out late, and then staying for yet an hour longer while I worked at the kitchen table. In conclusion, I'd have to say that the Morgan State House Inn, while not at the level of say, the St. Regis Hotel in NYC, is the best hotel Albany has to offer in the downtown area.

Rafael G.

Yelp
My husband and I spent an evening in the Artisan room/suite. It was large and beautiful. I thought it was a great room. Be advised that it is on the top floor and there are quite a few steps to climb to get there. The kitchen area was stocked with yummy treats even at the very late hour when we checked in. The Inn is really really beautiful. The two young men who helped us check in and get settled, were extremely welcoming and helpful. We met the owner the next morning as we were checking out and he too was very welcoming and friendly. (I don't mention names without first asking for permission otherwise I would have listed their names here). There was even a special welcome gift in our room, in response to an inquiry I made while making the reservation. I didn't expect that and really appreciate that extra touch/service. The location is great. A couple blocks from Central Ave., one block from State Street and right off of the park it was exactly where we wanted to be. The walk in the park and down Lark street the next morning was great! I paid extra for the off street parking which I highly recommend as finding parking in that area can be tough. I could not be any happier with my stay at The Morgan State House Inn. In the past I've stayed at chain hotels when visiting Albany, but not anymore. This is now my number one place to stay in Albany. Thank you very much guys!!!!

Olivia W.

Yelp
Right across from Washington park, there couldn't be a better place to stay in the City of Albany.

Eloise M.

Yelp
The hotel staff was very nice & informative. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel in general was quiet and provided a good night's sleep. The continental breakfast was better than what I expected it would be.

CrossFit B.

Yelp
This place was so adorable. We loved the Inn. If your looking for a private , Urban Style hotel like stay, this is the place for you. The main house had snacks , water , juice , almond milk , Milk, fruit biscotti, coffee and tea available around the clock. The housing building was a brownstone next door and the rooms were nicely updated , clean and spacious . We absolutely recommend this to young and older couples for a nice getaway slightly off the path of downtown Albany. It's located in Washington Park with plenty of street parking and with in walking distance to downtown. They also have full kitchens with stoves , microwaves and a dish washer. Cabinets were stocked with cups , saucers, forks knives and Coffee and Tea! They also offer discounts to a few local shops and places to eat. You won't regret this hotel if you are low maintenance . I'd give this place 10 stars!

Crystal Y.

Yelp
Very, very beautiful setting, right next to the gorgeous Washington Park. It was also just a 20 min walk to the State Capital building, which was also gorgeous. The room was beautiful as was the common areas, and the fact that the cleaning staff even did the dishes was a godsend. Highly recommend for a romantic or family getaway from NYC.

Yelp
I stayed in the Queen Studio with Kitchen located in the Annex building of the Morgan State House Inn. A+++ experience. Studio was beautiful, clean and well-kept with key amenities like all kitchen appliances (oven, microwave, full-size fridge/freezer), a separate bedroom/sleeping area, and a nice small dining room area. The stay at the Annex also provided full access to the "main house" about 2 houses down from the Annex, which is a gorgeous former mansion with all original woodwork and formal rooms including a stunning living room, formal dining room, and fully stocked kitchen. A quick word on the fully stocked kitchen -- it legit had everything (all included with the price of your hotel room). A fully stocked fridge (with fresh fruits, drinks, bottled water, eggs, yogurt). Coffee of all types. And that's in addition to a full breakfast served every day. There's a lovely backyard area as well. Bottom line: I've stayed in many hotels - this was one of the nicest, most convenient and relaxing places I've ever stayed. Staff was also very friendly. I stayed here for the Bar Exam in July 2019 (10 minute walk to the Empire Convention Center) and I could not have been happier. Thanks!

Yelp
Not being familiar with Albany NY I looked at reviews, both here on Yelp! and elsewhere before booking a hotel. I saw the photos of the Artisan Suite and booked the room, only to later discover my oversight, it is a third floor walk-up, something I could not deal with. The folks at Morgan State House Inn were very accommodating and switched my reservation to a nearby building where they rent out some some condo units. This is an old building. Some folks might call it charming, I would describe it as badly dated. The apartment needs a refresh. To take a shower the water must be run for at least 5 or 6 minutes to heat it up. The commode is low, with a small seat and uncomfortable. The tab on the sliding light switch in the bathroom kept falling off when I adjusted it. The room was relatively cheap compared to the Artisan suite, but it was still overpriced for what it was. You may ask, why did I give this place even 2 stars? First, I kept in mind that my booking was originally with the House. Had I seen photos of the condo, I never would have booked it. The second reason is the helpful and courteous staff who did everything they could to make our stay pleasant. Finally, there was access to the beautiful parlor and terrace of the House itself and finally, the generous continental breakfast. Book the house, if you can handle the stairs and I am sure you will be 4 star happy. The condo, not so much.

Kat J.

Yelp
I was very disappointed in my experience, as I didn't even stay in the Morgan State House Inn! With no warning or explanation, I was put in their property three doors down, which is basically a very shabby hotel room. (My room had a view of a brick wall three feet away.) If I make a reservation at a bed and breakfast that talks up its accommodations, I expect to be staying in those accommodations! The rooms at the actual bed and breakfast part may be quite nice, but as far as I can tell you have no guarantee you will actually experience them.

Yelp
I've never written a yelp review before, but I just cannot say enough good things about this inn or their AMAZING customer service. I booked a room here as a gift for my little sister's wedding night. The staff exceeded every expectation in making their stay perfect: I knew the couple would be checking in late (far later than the regular check-in hours), and the Inn made every effort to accommodate our needs. They first offered to allow me to pick up the key a day early, but when wedding details were getting overwhelming, they offered to have someone COME IN at 11pm to check them in. They then threw in free parking in the gated parking lot just to make our lives easier. When my sister arrived, she learned that they had upgraded her and her new husband to the best room in the place, with stunning views and an amazing jacuzzi tub. In case this wasn't enough, a bottle of perfectly chilled champagne was waiting in their room. My sister hasn't stopped gushing over the luxury of the room, the delicious complimentary breakfast the next morning, or - most emphatically - the gracious and heartwarming manner with which they were treated by every member of the staff. THANK YOU Morgan State House, for making my sister's special day absolutely perfect.

Yelp
What a charming little gem centrally located to downtown Albany. We booked a room last minute after our other Inn fell through and were very pleasantly surprised! We ended up in the annex or the unit that is in an apartment building next door, but this didn't bother us. It was a beautifully decorated and clean studio apartment on the park. The house itself was beautiful and we hope to stay there at a future date, but we were by no means upset by our accommodations next door. The only criticism would be the water pressure in the shower, which could be stronger. We were attending a concert at the Times Union Center and were able to walk to/from. It was about a 20 minute walk, but definitely worth avoiding the traffic and spending money on taxis to stay further away (University area) for a lower price. The unit is centrally located, next to Washington Park and a short walk to the restaurants and bars on Lark St. I also appreciated the coupons for local businesses. We had no problem finding on-street parking on the weekend, so did not use the lot. We were meeting local friends for breakfast, so we didn't partake in the breakfast. We saw others eating while we were checking out and it looked like a basic continental breakfast.

Yelp
I am not a person to write many a review, however this property deserves the accolades. My wife & I just completed a Fall Foliage Tour partially by train up the Hudson River from NYC to Albany (spectacular trip on the water most of the way), where we broke the trip. Although a large conglomerate hotel Elite member, my wife & I wanted to experience a locally owned and operated property. The comments on this site and others convinced us we made the correct choice - and we definitely did. My, how nice on a late summer's eve to sit on the back deck with a glass of wine enjoying the majesty of the flowers & ivy, an evening & morning stroll in the park across the street, and a lively area a block away filled with wonderful restaurants, activity and people out having a good time. We were treated like family by the owner and his staff. The room had terrycloth robes, comfy towels, excellent bedding/pillows & wi-fi - standard in the large chain hotels' Elite floors, yet all of this and more in a home of history and grace. If you are adventurous to get out of the cookie-cutter hotel scene (not a judgement, for I love those properties, too), you will leave glad you stayed at The Morgan State House State Inn.
