Morgan's Tavern & Grill

It was my first visit and I'm pleased that I selected such a cool place. Built in 1912, one can feel the rich history but at the same time admire the modern upgrades. I sat at the bar and was warmly greeted by Eve, who has a very welcoming personality. I ordered the salmon with wild rice and a small side salad. The salmon was perfectly seasoned, and that kind of rice is my fave. I'd like to give a shout out to Eve, who got increasingly busy but perfectly balanced her service skills among all her customers! I'll definitely return and bring my airline crew next time!

Plain perfect. Food, service, atmosphere, price. It's all here. Plus a wait...on Saturday night or Tuesday evening. There's a wait. Cause this is the place! Recommend: Carrot Cake, Chocolate Cobbler, Brown Ale, Meatloaf and Mash, Fries, it's all good 👍 Oh, and the honey croissant 🥐

Was visiting down town new Bern and wanted to try something new and definitely met up to my expectations!! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an affordable dinner with excellent food! The interior was astoundingly clean and a nice atmosphere with a nice aesthetic.

Stopped by for a late family lunch & was Very happy with everything ... food was great, server was very nice/sweet/knowledge, and the building is beautifully decorated and open.

The food was fine, not great but fine. My husband ordered the Ribeye 35, medium. It was cooked as ordered, but as far as flavor, honestly, it had very little. I ordered the Grilled Cordon Bleu with mashed potatoes (m.p.'s are served after 5 p.m. per the server). The chicken was moist, and the ham portion was plentiful. The hollandaise sauce, in my opinion, was lacking flavor. I felt it needed more Dijon mustard and lemon juice. The French onion soup was pretty good, but again, I felt it was lacking flavor. The sherry specifically. Would I return? Maybe after checking out a couple of other restaurants in the area. I feel most places need at least two tries before making a decision on that.

Everything bout Morgan’s was delightful .The customer service was on point the waiter was fantastic She made sure we was satisfied.The food was really amazing I will visit every chance I get .

Very cool place to eat in downtown New Bern. The menu is well balanced with starters , salads, wraps, tacos, entrees, and sandwiches. Deserts are deliciously tempting Favorites are shrimp poboy (outstanding), Island grilled shrimp pictured comes with black beans, pineapple, and rice. Grilled shrimp is also pictured The portions are very generous. The service is always good and the restaurant is clean and inviting 4.6 rating for me Cons may have to wait a bit as it’s very popular but worth it Parking at can be a challenge at times

My experience was great at Morgan’s! The restaurant looks really interesting on the inside. They start you off with honey croissants that are so soft and delicious. My husband and I both got the Turkey, Bacon, and Raspberry sandwich - sounds weird, but it was SO GOOD! I got the sweet potato fries that come with a brown sugar dipping sauce. He got the Tavern Twist Fries that were crispy on the outside, yet nice and soft on the inside side. You have to try this place! You can bring your dog (no pups on the table)!

Excellent food and service all set in unique historical surroundings! Grilled Shrimp tacos served with sweet potato fries with bread pudding dipping sauce!!! A definite must try when in New Bern NC!

Alright, well now we know that waiting 2.5 hours is def worth it! Hahaha. We expecting maybe an hour wait, when we asked the hostess at about 6pm on Saturday evening. But it was worth it!! For sure coming back (with reservations) when we come visit New Bern again!!

Great food , great location in a very cute town !! Service was friendly. The portion of the food were worth the money. Super busy get there early or you will wait an hour but it is worth the wait , we end up shopping at some of the cute stores . Don't sleep on the place

Very popular place in downtown New Bern. We had to get on a wait list for lunch, which was about 30 minutes long. The process was painless. They text you when your table is ready. Quick Highlights - Very popular, expect a wait - Lots of items on the menu - Good selection of draft beer and wine - Indoor and outdoor seating - Dogs welcomed outside - Complimentary Croissants with honey - Food is good and the service is great Lunch menu consists of several burger and sandwich options, along with salads and other entrees (flounder and chips, shrimp and fries, meatloaf, and seafood tacos). I got the Spicy Bella burger. The burger was a solid choice. Very juicy and cooked to your requested temperature. I was expecting the Spicy Bella to be, well, spicy with the tiger sauce and jalapeños. It really wasn't spicy at all. The homage chips as a side were very good. The tavern can handle large groups. Outside seating is covered and heated. Overall it s great place to eat. Glad we discovered it on our trip.

My 7th visit and everything is great. 6 hours ribs, pork chop, chicken cordon bleu and my favorite salad entree, tropical chicken salad served in half of a sweet pineapple. Today I just came for a hot bowl of French onion soup, so amazing right down to the broth. Wait there Is more, pet friendly on a heated patio. Everyone is friendly and the honey croissants are a great blend of sweet and savory.

Lots of choices even for picky eaters. Food was good, service was good and if you like a coastal/wooden theme indoors, this is definitely the place for you.

I just moved to the area and this is the first place I went to try in downtown New Bern. There's separate parking for Morgan's customers, but it does fill up very quickly. However, there's 2 hour parking on almost every street which is convenient. I chose this restaurant because it allows dogs on the patio, which I really liked! When I first got to the restaurant, my server gave me just the food menu. I didn't realize they had a drink menu until I saw everyone who got seating after me getting one. I know mistakes happen, so I asked my server for a drink menu and she said she would go get it. I was disappointed that it took almost 20 more minutes for my server to get me a drink menu. I don't know if she just forgot, but it was mid day and not busy at all. The server wasn't very friendly either, so it just made the experience a bit awkward. They give you complimentary honey croissants which were amazing! However, the Big Sweety Burger wasn't good at all and was super dry and lacked flavor. The fries were sub par as well and just did not taste good to me. It was an overall "okay" experience and I was really expecting more based on some good reviews. I wouldn't recommend this place. There's definitely better restaurants right next door that would provide a better experience.

Started our meal with the portobello chips which a refreshing take on an appetizer. Perfectly seasoned tempura batter then lightly fried. Served as a crispy chip with jalapeño ranch dressing. If you're not into spicy food, then their ranch is a perfect alternative. Their jalapeño cream cheese burger is a nice follow up. The cream cheese turns into melty gooeyness with just a hint of jalapeño and sweet BBQ sauce truly elevates the burger. Sweet potato fries with their cinnamon dip truly completes the meal. Whenever they serve their pot roast, get it! It will instantly transport you back to your childhood and the pot roast Momma used to make! Just don't tell her it's that good! You can always count on the attentiveness and professionalism of their staff. You can really tell the love their job and the management team. Morgan's is a win-win for everyone at your table. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Every time we come to New Bern we stop to eat here and it never disappoints. We haven't had anything we don't like. Will keep coming back.

Morgan's Tavern & Grill is definitely the place to be on a Friday night. The place was hopping with over a 45 minute wait, but we got very lucky and snagged a private high top table in the bar. Our waitress was very friendly. Prior to our meal we were served complimentary croissants with honey. I didn't know that was a thing, but I'm here to tell you it is a good thing! We ordered the Tuna and Shrimp entree and The "Greek" salad for dinner. The Tuna and shrimp was served over a scrumptious combination of black beans, corn, feta with some seasoning and sauces. I could have eaten that alone as a meal sans the seafood. So Good! The salad was your average Greek Salad, but good. The restaurant is housed within a building dating back to 1912. I loved the interior and the way different dining areas were created.

Food is amazing here. They serve croissants with honey drizzled on top as an appetizer. Beyond the food, the most impressive aspect is the customer service. It's top-notch. I forgot my to-go plate and returned five minutes later. Although it had been thrown away, the Team went the extra mile to get me new fries.

Last minute late lunch meetup with sometimes picky family. Great food and fabulous service. Our server was the most attentive I have had in a long time. Everybody was happy even the picky family members. Already making plans to go again.

The shrimp & crab special was out of this world! I was a bit disappointed when the waitress asked me to cut into the sirloin to be sure it was cooked as requested (medium rare). It was not pink in the center and they offered repeatedly to bring a new dish. After one bite, I refused to allow them to take away my plate. It was to die for!!!!! Both the special & molasses pork chops were ! Rebecca was awesome & the atmosphere was beautiful & relaxing.

Was not greeted when I entered the establishment. The hostess did not make eye contact during the reservation process. I was told there was a 26 minute wait- was informed that the table was ready in 10 Minutes. I ordered the char-crusted salmon- it was fresh, no flavor at all. I informed the waitress of my distaste and she returned with "orange sauce" - which tasted like condensed milk. The bill did not reflect the quality of the food. I would never return to this Restaurant- I was truly disappointed.

Since moving to New bern two months ago, once a week, I treat myself to dinner at Morgan's. I've never been disappointed. Whether it's the fried oyster appetizer, fettuccine Alfredo, or Caesar salad, the food's always been delicious, service, always courteous and timely. And those fresh baked croissants out of this world.

Wow, Morgan's is timeless yet modern. Walking into the place you get the feel of Old New Bern but the ambience is modern, you can hear light conversations, the music is accompanying the conversations and the food wraps your mind! The drinks were not disappointing. Opening condiment for the first course was outstanding. The meals were abundant and full-filling. Every walk of human being is there enjoying a full experience of food, camaraderie, laughs, and good wholesome fun!!! The front of the house service was top notch from the hostess greetings to the waitress who cares about delivering great service and providing warm energy with each smile. Every need was met!!! I definitely will be back to sample more!

Worth the wait! Creative dishes. Quality food. Clean atmosphere. Friendly staff. Perfect experience. We tried Friday night but you need to make reservation early. So went Saturday for lunch. Told 45 min wait. Turned out 25 minutes or less. Can't wait to come back.

Great experience at Morgan's tonight. The place was packed (6:30 on a Wednesday night in New Bern. Weird, but typical.), but the hostess offered us a high top near the bar. Nate, or server, was an absolute delight. Very attentive, great at multi tasking, and extremely pleasant. I got a grilled romaine salad with chicken, which was excellent. My son got a burger, which I assume he enjoyed because he ate it in like four bites. We were in and out of Morgan's in under 30 minutes, which was perfect.

I don't get it. The food was mediocre at best. Service was sub-par. This place is the definition of overrated

I love this restaurant. We return every time we are in the area. Great food and service. The only suggestion is to make it clear on the menu that substituting out fries for a healthier side like broccoli is an upcharge. Example, the drunken Haddock says you can substitute out fries but doesn't mention the 1.99 upcharge our waitress told us exists. Not a problem for the charge, just would like to see it on the menu somewhere.

My friends and I came here on a Saturday evening. We were walking around town and came upon this restaurant. We had a lovely experience. We walked in around 4:25 pm and put our name in. They told us it would be about an hour wait but I think it was a little shorter around 45-50 minutes. We were seated outside but there were heaters so it was comfortable. My friends and I ordered the crab dip to split. It was very crabby and cheesy and warm! We really enjoyed it. It was good price for the amount of food, about $15. I loved the complimentary honey croissants! They were delicious. I ordered the tuna tacos for about $14. I really enjoyed them! There was a lot of tuna. It was cooked very well and tasted fresh. It also came with a side. I chose Mac and cheese and liked it! Very creamy and warm and cheesy. Overall I was very full and really enjoyed our meal here! Thought the food was great and a good price.

Popular place with a big menu. Fun location. Higher prices than the mediocre food should warrant Slow service. Had the "the famous " lobster and crab bisque. Maybe, 5 oz of puréed seafood soup with a 1/4 tsp of crab. No crackers. $8. Shrimp tacos were rubbery and bland with overcooked unseasoned chips for $15?? Nope. Do not recommend.

This is the only place I have seen fried scallops on the menu and they were delicious!! They were cooked to perfection, not greasy or over battered. The shrimp were equally tasteful and it made for a perfect seafood experience. I added broccoli and asparagus and both were buttery and tasty. The service was perfection. Very attentive and ensured that we were satisfied. The outdoor seating is amazing -- it feels private, though there are tables all around. I would definitely return!

Typical pub, crowded and lively with slightly above average food. The New Bern restaurant scene is mediocre.

Went there at 11:30 AM on Friday completely packed already. I can see why- great ambience w/ Christmas decor made it very festive & inviting. The hostesses greeted us right away,very friendly. Our waitress was there right away, took our drink order. We ordered mimosas. They were absolutely delicious. She went over the specials. We loved our lunch. I had a turkey cranberry sandwich. Very good and my sister had a Cuban both sandwiches were excellent. Service was quick, food was great. The ambience was awesome great all around. I will definitely be back.

The wife and I and the dog ventured to New Bern and found this place. Here are my thoughts : * Sat outside and had great service ..the honey croissants were good . * I had a grilled chicken sandwich that was excellent , tender and moist, better than most I've had anywhere . Twisted fries were tasty as well. * The wife had a French dip which she was good but a little salty...her mac n cheese was very tasty however . * They have a dog menu which is awesome and Jax had the grilled chicken and broccoli and mashed potatoes..well, he had the chicken...2 paws up! I'd eat there again if I'm ever in town ....

4th time visiting here, we visit for special occasions. This visit was for my Birthday. Service and waitress very attentive, however my dish undesirable I ordered the ribeye not a lot of flavor. There were no grill marks on the steak and very little fat which lends to little flavor. I have never had a ribeye that was cut like a ham steak, really believe food service cut of meat and cooked on flat top and sauce added. Due to the grain of the meat and how dense it was I don't believe it was ribeye. I really believe sirloin instead of ribeye. We ordered desert mine supposed to be free, nope charged for all. We visited June 2024 for my daughter's birthday. It was okay salmon was way over seasoned and overcooked. I will probably be searching for another spot for special occasions. My family of 4 spend a lot of money here, drinks, appetizers, deserts and entrees. Service has always been good however food quality has declined.

It's absolutely worth the hype! My husband and I spent an overnight trip in New Bern to celebrate our anniversary. I wanted a nice restaurant and found Morgan's on Yelp. We had a bit of a wait, but it was a busy Saturday. The food was wonderful. The croissant rolls were heavenly! They were hot, fluffy, and dripping with honey and butter when our server, Bryson, delivered them. We adored the crab bisque, but the main dishes were amazing. My husband had the seared scallops with the pineapple salsa, and I had shrimp and scallops. Cooked perfectly and able to slice through the scallops like they were butter. To top it off, we had a lemon drop for dessert. Lemon, raspberry, and cream...what more could you ask for? Can not wait to visit again.

Cool place for a bite to eat and to grab a drink. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes were great as was the Boring chicken sandwich which was far from boring. Highly recommend.

Our first time to New Bern, we were set on checking out another local hot spot but with the place packed on a beautiful Saturday day we doubt we could get a spot. We saw that there was a large cooler with small bottles of waters free for those exploring the town. A nice gesture that impressed me that they were hospitable like that. I was surprised that we were greet by some warm honey croissants for the table which was a welcome sight after being on the road for a while. Luckily while looking for street parking we ended up in front of Morgans! We took it as a sign to check this place out and glad we did. With a 30 minute wait during a busy lunch rush we decided to check out the high top tables and bar area for possible seating for our 6 person table. We threw two tables together and got to order and eating than waiting for a formal spot. Luckily with the help of our great waitress, Lauren we were able to claim an area right below the sun roof in the restaurant to enjoy the day while inside. Lauren was helpful walking us thru what she has tried and enjoyed since this was our first time here. We grabbed some appetizers; the fried oysters with cooked spinach, bacon with a Thai spicy chili sauce. The other app was a baked crab dip with a proportionate amount of pita as stated by my sister. A small plus. Our dishes ranged from the Cuban with ham and pork with a side of tavern twisted fries or a sweet potatoes fries. They did make the mistake and dropped one half of the sandwich for my mom and brought out the other half and made a full new sandwich for her. An early Mother's Day gift. I opted for the Meatloaf which was delicious with a rich brown gravy on top of a stuffing fritter which still had a good crunch to it even though it was surrounded by gravy. I think the crowd favorite was my dad's tuna lettuce wraps with cucumber wasabi drizzle, black beans, pico and raw tuna. It was a light meal that didn't leave you feeling sluggish walking out but full and content with four lettuce boats. The different pours of beers were a nice addition to our meal. We liked the Pilsner, IPA and Golden Ale. Last but not least was dessert with a raspberry lemon drop, carrot cake with pineapple inside and candied pecans and a bourbon pecan pie. They were all shareable sizes but weren't overtly sweet. All in all between the great service and the food we will be back. They provide that welcoming vibe with their service and their food.

Wait time was typical for a Friday night, Food was very good.. The Honey Croissants were awesome. I ordered the "Ribeye 35" and it was very juicy and flavorful. Definitely recommend this place to those in town or visiting. Will definitely come again

Went here while visiting New Bern, NC. The food, service, and ambiance were all amazing! Our server was the best and super friendly and helpful. First time having hot honey and croissants and it definitely won't be the last.

Food was good. Waitress was wonderful - Danielle first then another one. Disappointed in the seating especially since we had a reservation. Stuck in a corner with a table of 14 young women next to us. No one wants that! BUT The front desk staff apparently hated their job or just didn't like elderly people. Not ONE of them looked up as we checked in.....NOT ONE! I would have left had it not been that we had additional people coming in our party. I mean not ONE of the four people at the front check in desk even had the courtesy to welcome us nor look at us. This is totally unacceptable. Will never ever go back. Your front desk team can make or break your restaurant and these folks were certainly out to do exactly this.

Very Very good food and service. The Ambiance is also very good. I think it is the nicest place in New Bern to eat.

Super experience at Morgan's. We had a party of 7, and they were able to seat us quickly. The server was fantastic, and checked in on us frequently. The food was great. We had a variety of entrees and they were all great. Would definitely return.

When we asked at The History Center where do the locals eat - the recommendation was Morgan's Tavern & Grill. Let me tell ya, the locals know good food, cool vibes, and friendly staff! The building was built in 1912 as a garage, but they have turned it into a cool palace, lots of original brickwork still there and the ceiling is fabulous! Ariana was our waitress, and she was great, ask her how The Big Greg's Club sandwich got its name - heartwarming and sweet. She brought out honey buttered croissants to get us started - YES, please! We ordered The Cuban and The Loaded Dip and shared them. Holy WOW, they were both flavorful, piping hot, and left us wanting more! The bread was soft and slightly warm, the meat was cooked to perfection and the au jus was spot on! This is a fun place with deep roots in the community - we will be back and I highly recommend that you stop by when you are in the lovely town of New Bern, NC.

Nothing special here. Overpriced, mediocre food, at best. The fried asparagus on one of our entrees still had the purple rubber band on it! There is no excuse for this!! The less than apologetic unprofessional manager offered dessert on the house to our party but then had the waitress inform us that only one dessert was on the house. The crab dip appetizer was cold and mostly just gummy cheese. The meatloaf was a dense chunk of meat and something, swimming in a rich sweet sauce. It must be hard to be a waitress here. We won't be back.

The food is amazing! But it's hard to get reservations! The wait list is long usually a hour! But there are always tables empty! My suggestion, please don't take reservations, people don't always show up, use a waitlist only!

I don't go out of my way to praise restaurants normally, BUT had lunch at Morgan's yesterday! 1st time there! The service was beyond great! The lunch was very good! However just on a whim I decided to look at their dessert tray! Since I've just lost 140 lbs I don't do that often! I was already full but decided What the Hell, so I order the Carrot Cake knowing I would be bringing most of it home! I did and holy cow......It was THE BEAT CARROT CAKE I have had since I was a kid 40-50 years ago! Moist, covered is a sweet sauce with pecans on top! Amazing!!! Brought it home and only allowing myself to take one fork bite at a time! Gonna be so possed when it's gone! Great job Morgan's, I'm not impressed much.....but yall did the trick!!!!!

The meatloaf!!! The wild rice!!! Sun Dip!!! Don't let the hostess staff throw you off- or maybe when we went they just didn't have a good day! The wait staff was awesome and the food delicious! Highly Recommend!!
