The marron glace from Moriondo e Gariglio are worth their weight in gold. These candied chestnuts hit shelves at Rome’s historic confectionery shop in the fall and when they’re gone, they’re gone, so get them quick.

Mariondo & Gariglio is not just a chocolate shop – it’s a piece of living history. This refined boutique traces its origins back to the maître du chocolat Carlo Enrico Cuniberti, originally from Turin, whose vision and artistry laid the foundation for what remains one of Rome’s most elegant and authentic chocolate experiences. The craftsmanship is evident in every piece: rich, balanced flavors, perfectly tempered textures, and an aesthetic that honors both tradition and excellence. Whether you are sampling their pralines, ganaches, or signature assortments, each bite transports you to a world where quality and heritage come first. A must-visit for anyone who values true artisanal chocolate and the cultural blend of Piedmontese finesse and Roman soul. Bravo to Mariondo & Gariglio for keeping this delicious legacy alive.

Must stop in Rome I have traveled all over the world and have bought plenty of chocolate which I brought home and never ate them again! I went out of my way to go here and purchased chocolate and now I’m so sad why I did not buy more or why I sent an extra box to my son! (lol) The taste is out of this world. Old school, a lot of solid chocolate! But if you do not like solid, try their cherry or rum ones to die for! Even their orange peel chocolate is fantastic. If I go back this would be the first place to stop and I will buy much bigger boxes of each item (will take a suitcase just for this) & I’m not kidding. Not sure why I like these place more than any chocolate shop in Paris, but I know it taste different and it’s amazing

A beautiful place run by the kindest people who are proud of their chocolates and their history. My wife and I stopped in to buy some gifts for some coworkers, and left having sampled and bought extras for ourselves. A host of creative and fun chocolates can be found at this beautiful shop located in a great area to visit.

Very small chocolate shop with only a few small tables inside. The hot chocolate is made fresh from scratch and takes 5 min to prepare, but it’s worth it!

Google
Adorable chocolate shop with a wide variety of chocolates by the piece or gram/kilo along with gift boxes. We had several types of dark chocolate, which were all delicious. Just very expensive so be careful when the staff asks if you want them to "put a variety bag together for you". We walked out with a small bag for 12 euros (hence the 4 stars overall).

I had the best time here! It was a rainy morning and I sat in the chocolate shop drinking a hot chocolate and eating a Mont Blanc, which were both very delicious. The staff was so incredibly friendly and welcoming. I felt like I was on another planet. I bought about 20 assorted chocolates from the display case and they were all exceptional. Some of the best I've ever had and I've been to many chocolate shops all over the US, Europe and Asia. Absolutely a must to go here. The chocolate covered candied chestnuts were the best!!!!!!!

Yelp
So many chocolate to choose from! We loaded up on all types of chocolates, to bring home as gifts. The women who work here are very nice. They do not know much English, but were indulgent of me trying mine. With some patience and humor I communicated and was able to make my purchase. The store is full of a wide selection of chocolate confections. Recommend for chocolate lovers!

Yelp
We go out of our way every time in Italy to get this. I love unsweetened chocolate which they have but the 60% is top here. Very pure tasting. The fruit gels though are even better than the chocolate so I'll be shipping to Canada for Christmas so as not to disappoint the children, or family, or guests, who now nothing else will do. Staff is helpful and patient for those who do not speak Italian.

Yelp
The first and oldest chocolate shop in Rome, worth a visit! Simply decadent.

Yelp
If you're a tourist wandering around the streets of Rome, you will likely miss this discreet gem in the heart of the city. I was fortunate enough to visit when I was taking a culinary stroll with our docent from Context Tours. I knew I was in for a treat the second I stepped in. Since the 1800s this chocolatier has been producing high quality products for royalty, locals and tourists. Everything is made on site. And here's an insider tip: they make a hazelnut chocolate spread from scratch, BUT you must order it at least 1 day in advance. That's because they need the time to make it perfectly (think Nutella, only a million times better). This product comes beautifully packaged in a glass jar, but you must consume it fairly quickly as it does not contain any of those disgusting preservatives or additives. Another amazing thing to try is the tears of heaven; hand crafted fruit flavored sugar crystals filled with a little amount of syrup. They're delicate and delicious. I recommend going with someone who speaks fluent Italian as the people who run the shop do not speak English. This is a must for chocolate lovers visiting Rome!

Yelp
Walking the back street around the Pantheon I ran into this shop. What a delight! It appears to be a family-run store with the production area in the back. As I entered the door I was struck by the wonderful aroma of chocolate which fill the shop. The decor is strictly out of the 18th century and you feel you have gone back in time. The staff was very knowledgeable and the gentleman who helped us seemed to have grown up in the shop. The chocolate though a bit expensive was worth the experience.

Yelp
What a find! When wandering Rome's alleyways I came across this delightful shop and it just called for me to go in with its welcoming red interior. I was absolutely delighted when I tried their chocolates and their fruit candies. They have a great selection of flavors - I especially liked the hazelnut and pistachio chocolates - and I had to return to get more to bring back home as gifts and to bring friends to check it out, too.

Yelp
We went for the chocolates but left with a variety of their fruit candy. It just doesn't just get any better. Forget the Prozac, just have some of those fruit candies. Any agnostics out there will be believers after a visit to this store. OMG!
