Eclectic cafe nestled in the cute town of Grand Haven. There is a wide variety of options on the menu with daily specials. ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️ Coffee is always hot and delicious. The house made whipped cream in the mocha Java is scrumptious. Omelettes are fluffy and the turkey sausage here is so tasty! They make a pineapple salsa (served on the side of a Denver omelette) that makes taste buds break dance🍍 🌶️🍍🌶️🍍🌶️🍍🌶️🍍🌶️🍍🌶️ Everything is prepared with love. Great portion size, and food was plated to perfection. Our server was extremely attentive and friendly. Great atmosphere here!

Google
What a cute little place to try! It was recommended to me, and I'm so glad I went. The wait wasn't too long, but it was worth it. For a smaller place, there was a lot of seating. There was so many food options that it actually took awhile to finally pick something! I had a French Silk cold brew (yum!), and the breakfast BLTA sandwich with fruit. The menu had a Southern feel, but that's what makes it unique. And definitely try the Oatmeal Pancakes with the cinnamon butter! The server was amazing and it was a colorful ambiance. I'd also recommend!

Quite a nice place. Ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs atop sunny side up. Ethan (server) was friendly and knowledgeable. Coffee was a top notch brew very flavorful and robust. Not often do establishments carry such a great blend. Environment was very cozy, quaint with a vintage flair reminiscent of other older cafes, diners of the era. A very well kept location. Next time I visit I will have to bring a companion to share this experience with.

Google
Absolutely awesome breakfast stop! Every person working at the Morning Star Cafe was super kind and the service was top notch. Food was delicious 😋 I can’t believe I’ve driven past the place so many times and never stopped! I’ll be back!

Google
Would give more stars if I could! Food was just amazing and super quick. Our server Jackie was super sweet and knowledgeable. Will drive back from Cincinnati again just to have breakfast here.

Google
Cutest little place well one of them in Grand Haven. Delicious and unique offerings. The chorizo… was flavorful.. I highly recommend and look at those awesome bakery treats and desserts. You guys know I’m all about the bathrooms so this bathroom was super clean so I’m sure the kitchen is clean as well. LBVS! Parker was my server and was very attentive. I will be back.

Google
WOW! Sunday morning, my wife and I decided to grab breakfast and through a series of crazy events, we found this place. Off the beaten path, in a small line of small shops in a neighborhood. Honestly, we drove past this place hundreds of times. We didn't know what we were missing... they are typically busy, so being patient is a must. The staff, ALL OF THEM, are very friendly and competent. The kitchen staff was moving at break neck speed, and through it all remained happy and upbeat. Now on to the food.... AMAZING!!! If I could rather them a 10 out of 5, I would! If you like food and live anywhere close to Grand Haven, this is a MUST Try! Cheers to the entire staff! You are killing it!

Google
We arrived during a weekday with a large party. They were going to put us on a wait list but instead opened up their next-door dining area just for us. Indoor seating with a large open window made the experience enjoyable and timely for us. We’ll definitely be back! The food and service were amazing.

Yelp
We came in for brunch on Sunday 12/29/24 around 12:35pm. There was a 30ish minute wait - as usual, but we were able to sit at the counter right away. Maggie took great care of us. She was so chill and smiley. I had the Corned Beef Hash with 2 over easy eggs and sourdough toast. He had his usual/favorite Marbled Cornbread Scramble. We love Morning Star, highly recommend!

Yelp
Full belly. Great service. Cozy atmosphere. I was in town for a couple of days. I came here for a breakfast that would really fill my belly for a day of enjoying the outdoors. My breakfast definitely fit the book (and didn't break the bank!) I had a fluffy omelet with potatoes, bacon, and biscuit. The coffee was dinne of the best I've had - that piping hot, bold-flavored diner coffee! But I left room for a cinnamon roll. I'm a sucker for a cinnamon roll, but only really good ones. This was one of the best I've had. It was huge, so I didn't finish it, but I packed it up and smacked on it later in the day.

Yelp
We decided to stop in for breakfast based on all the great yelp reviews. We stopped in early Sat morning and we had a very short wait. I had one Michigan blueberry pancake. One was more than enough, it was huge!! My husband had the Denver omelet. They provide a pot of coffee for the table, which is always nice and you do not see much anymore. I noticed many people had tea and it was served in beautiful tea pots. Our server was great and very attentive. A wonderful breakfast experience.

Tim G.

Yelp
Had breakfast there this AM after having gotten a recommendation from my wife's Fiesta dishes group (which they use to serve all the meals) and it was wonderful! Had a little 20 minute wait for our party of 6, but wow, the food was delicious! I had the stuffed French toast (OMG), a couple of us had the breakfast special, my wife had an omelet, and another had the biscuits and gravy. Our server was very nice, took our picture (!), and made sure the coffee was hot and plentiful. We split one of the "legendary" cinnamon rolls and it was literally the icing on a great meal. Highly, highly recommend.

Yelp
We arrived mid morning and were able to find street parking right outside the restaurant. We gave our name, was told it would be 20 minutes (they were packed) and 20 minutes later we got notification that our table was ready. The decor is super cute, mosaics of Fiesta ware on the walls. Tables and booths are good size. Our waitress convinced us to try a cinnamon roll as an appetizer to our breakfast, we caved. It came out hot and gooey-baked to perfection. We split it into quarters and each had a quarter before breakfast and boxed the rest to eat on the road later. Our breakfast came out shortly after and was amazing. I had the Denver omelet with potatoes and rye toast. All was delicious. The little pile of pineapple salsa is a refreshing surprise. My daughter had scrambled eggs, potatoes, and wheat toast. She couldn't stop talking about the potatoes, they are SO good! I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try, you will not be let down. Great location, wonderful service, and yummy food.

Jasmine M.

Yelp
Kendall was the best server ! She was so knowledgeable about the menu and seriously so kind. The food was incredible and the ambiance was very warm and welcoming

Jana L.

Yelp
Packed!!! And for good reason! This place was delicious and inventive. My corn cake Benny was wonderful - not to mention unique - and I am bummed I don't live here so I can go back every weekend There were four of us and everyone loved their breakfast choice, but I was too busy chowing down to remember what they ordered ... sorry, not sorry AND... despite being packed, those servers were sliding between tables, topping off beverages, checking-in and just overall smashing it in terms of service! Kudos to that excellent team! AND... they gave me a refill on coffee to go, which was much needed and very much appreciated!

Teresa M.

Yelp
Walked up and got our name on the list for brunch. They took our number and said they'd text when the table was ready. Estimated 30-minute wait, actual 40. We took the opportunity to look up the menu and reviews while waiting. Once seated, we were able to order immediately. The coffee was brought out in an insulated carafe for wxtra pours, with a side of cream. The gal who helped us also brought 2 forks out so we could share the roll. It had a fabulous crunchy outer, yet tender inside and smothered in a tangy-sweet cream cheese frosting. Next came the mains. Mine could have used some kick, but there was hot sauce available &, I suppose, it's easier to add more heat than it is to take it away. The eggs were perfectly poached & I loved the naked option. Bonus for letting me swap out potatoes for the fruit. After reading how great they were, I did expect some sort of twist, but there isn't one. Yes, they were good, just normal. I stole a few bites of bacon & it was fabulous. I'd guess they bake it to render it and get it crispy without burning it. The hubs said the chorizo hash was great. I wouldn't know cuz he didn't share! All in all, I feel like it was a great value.

Yelp
We weren't sure where to eat visiting Grand Haven this week with my daughter who wanted pancakes. The line out the door pulled us in. We gave our name and said it would be 15-20 minutes so we headed next door to super cute local bookstore and got a text within about 10 minutes our table was ready. The waitress was incredibly friendly. She suggested a homemade cinnamon roll before our food and it was big enough to share and it was FANTASTIC. My daughter loved her French toast and bacon and I got the lunch special of a grilled Chicken sandwich with delicious pesto sauce. I subbed home fries / potatoes for the blue corn chips. My sandwich was awesome but the potatoes were hard and undercooked. I could not eat them. I loved for refills for our soda drinks she brought little carafes for us. Why don't more restaurants do this? It was a bustling place and super cute inside but it did take a bit for our food to come out. I didn't order dessert but they walk around with dessert tray that I snagged a photo of on way out. And while I didn't get a cocktail, love that they offered them!

Yelp
I don't go to Morningstar that often, every now and then when I'm going out to breakfast with others. But today, I'm by myself and even though last time I thought they might have overcharged me, I decided to have breakfast. Besides Russ' Restaurant had big groups waiting to be seated. So here I am at Morningstar, parked across the street. First thing I noticed, they did not do a very good job of cleaning the snow off the sidewalk.....unlike their neighbor, J-Dubs wine shop which did an excellent clearing of the white stuff. Menu prices still looked the same, so I ordered what I got last time. Eggs & Ham. You can read the previous review I did on the food since it did not change. My biggest complaint, besides the 40-50 year old music heard over the speakers.... was being gouged! The menu states $9.25. I was charged 9.95. WTF? Next, coffee: $3.50. What do think they are? Starbucks? Then a non-cash adjustment! (see photo) So my breakfast with tip was about $17....and I just got a basic meat and eggs breakfast. I'm done with this place. I'll wait for a table at Russ' next time and save my self 5 bucks. Plus, Russ' actually has a parking lot.

Yelp
Unusual menu, great food and gathering place in Grand Haven. Service was attentive and helpful.

Brian S.

Yelp
Sunny Saturday morning. Enjoyed breakfast outside. Good food. Friendly service. Guarantee we will be back again.

Mary Fran B.

Yelp
I think we ate breakfast here, all three mornings we were in Grand Haven. Great menu, food, service and amazing cinnamon roles. Portions are very ample and the kitchen is happy to 'split' them. Can't wait to go back!

Pamela D.

Yelp
My husband and I are regular visitors to Grand Haven, and always make it a point to visit Morning Star for breakfast. Service has always been excellent and prices are reasonable. The cinnamon rolls are a must and we like the southwestern influence of the other menu items. We also love the Dark Star coffee served in a pint glass. On our most recent visit we decided to splurge on dessert. We shared the key lime pie, which was quite tasty. It can get busy, even on a weekday, but your patience will be rewarded.

Marcus T.

Yelp
We stopped here on a Sunday morning on the way back from a camping trip. The staff was so nice, the service was excellent, and we loved the atmosphere. On top of all that our food was great. I decided to try the Marbled Cornbread Scramble and it was delicious! We we definitely visit again if we are in Grand Haven.

Nicole V.

Yelp
We love this place! One of our favored breakfast locations in all of West Michigan. It is worth the drive for us from Hudsonville. We have never been disappointed with our food. The restaurant is small and lively. Oftentimes the wait is long on weekends and holidays so plan on a wait if you go during those times. Staff are always friendly and accommodating.

Jeremy S.

Yelp
This place is your quintessential frenetic, and very much worthwhile- breakfast/brunch experience.....and yes, it's worth the wait! The food is awesome, the service is excellent, and the ambiance is on par with your bright, friendly & buzzing morning cafes! If you're looking for peace & quiet, and less humans to start your day, go elsewhere....for your sake and everyone else's. We were just passing through. However, if this was my stomping grounds, I would make this my weekly haunt!

Peter T.

Yelp
Carmi did an outstanding job serving the excellent food. Had the Denver omelette. Cinnamon French toast take out for my better half. Yum yum. Morning Star will be on my go to list from now on.

Dennis Y.

Yelp
first time here, very busy place but luckily we got in before the lunch rush. Sat at the bar to have a lunch and the food was hot and fresh, service was great and the atmosphere was vey cozy. the only thing i could ding them on is it is very loud. hard to have a normal conversation with someone your sitting next to. it wont stop me from going back or recommending but it is that

H R.

Yelp
Okay, I'll admit I was never a big fan of this restaurant, but had many family and friends who liked this place, so I patronized it. My complaint was not so much about the food....as it is a good quality meal. I was more disappointed in the long wait times to get a table, I guess a testament to their popularity, but I don't like to wait around for a table. I also didn't like their prices. I realize this is Grand Haven and they like to take advantage....especially the tourists. I've now changed my mind about this place. While I always liked the food, I just didn't like to wait to be seated. Now I arrive before 8am. Rarely have to wait. But the biggest thing I will commend this restaurant for.....IS NOT raising prices so quickly. Rendezvous was right down the street, and they had absolutely the lowest breakfast prices in town, except for fast food. Never had to wait either. But now Rendezvous is shut down. I now try a variety of local spots and it seems everytime I go to these places, they hand out a new menu from the last visit.....with HIGHER PRICES. Pine Street Cafe I thinked raised the price of their basic breakfast 3 times in one year. C'mon! My latest experience at Morningstar I ordered the omelette. The Cadillac, with sour dough toast and they brought redskin potatoes with a pot of coffee. Omelette $10.75, coffee $2.50. This same meal, (although not nearly as good, IMO) at Pine Street Cafe would cost $12+$2.99...and I'd be charged extra for the sour dough! So Morningstar, despite their lack of parking gets a rare 5 star review from me. Good service, Good prices, Quality food. Just get there early to get a table without waiting.

Deborah K.

Yelp
Food was so delicious! Blue Corn pancakes are a must try. Great quality food. It tastes fresh and not like it comes from a food service delivery. Staff is so friendly and attentive . Atmosphere has an artsy feel. I would go again!!!! And again!!! We actually did have breakfast there 2 days in a row!!

Candace A.

Yelp
Good. Very busy for breakfast with a considerable wait time. Worth the wait though. Service is relatively fast after you are seated.

Marcia S.

Yelp
What a fun place to have breakfast. Hippie feel with neat decor, great service and good food. Went on a Sunday morning and waited 10 minutes. Worth a short wait. Highly recommend this wonderful gem.

Cookie K.

Yelp
The food was absolutely astonishing but the wait time really upset me and i considered hitting my brother in anger. I am very pleased to say my taste buds were titillated.

Amanda S.

Yelp
A really cute spot for breakfast/brunch/lunch in Grand Haven! My husband and I went with my in-laws for lunch and had a great meal. Although it was cold outside, there are curtains in front of the door that help to keep the cold outside and the restaurant very cozy inside. We were able to be seated right away with our drink orders taken. Morning Star Cafe is so cute inside, but I think I'd ask for a booths next time as the chairs were a little uncomfortable. There were a ton of menu items and I appreciated the many veggie options! I ordered the "Tree Hugger" with eggs and it was delicious with lots of veggies and potatoes! Super hearty and filling without leaving you too heavy feeling. Towards the end of our meal, the waitress came around with a dessert tray to show us todays dessert options. The had my husband's favorite, key lime pie, so we ordered a slice of that to share. We so enjoyed our meal at Morning Star Cafe & I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area!

nothing but nat

Yelp
Cute diner in the heart of Grand Haven! Good food, good service, good experience. Would come back!

Ashley J.

Yelp
Sooooo good! The cinnamon roll is to die for. Had such a lovely time here and can't wait to go back next time I'm in town!

Darcy V.

Yelp
My favourite breakfast/brunch spot in grand haven. They serve breakfast/brunch til 2p. House made chorizo is fantastic. The blue corn pancakes are divine!

Wendy R.

Yelp
First time here and I can't wait to come back! Excellent food and excellent service (Abby))! Loved my omelet, the potatoes and the flavored coffee ...and the cinnamon roll!

Joe G.

Yelp
Lily, our server was very happy and helpful. The cinnamon roll is a must have. I had the regular French toast with a side of eggs. Molly got the Heartland omelette. The portions are on the large side. This is a must stop while in Grand Haven. It's worth the wait.

Alice V.

Yelp
Cute & funky little cafe. Great atmosphere with a loft style and retro decor with a little Southwest twist. Eclectic menu with lots of veggie choices. Tried the South Tucson Scramble -- housemade chorizo, jalapeño & green chilies scrambled with eggs and stuffed into a flour tortilla, topped with a chili sauce & sour cream with scallions. Absolutely delicious & perfectly cooked! Several choices for coffee options -- flavored, medium and dark roasts! Dark roast was fabulous and not an extra charge. Lots of daily and seasonal specials but so many good things on their regular menu to try demands many return visits. Dessert options all looked wonderful. Taking the chocolate raspberry roulade home for later. I'm sure it will be as delicious as everything else has been. Excellent and accommodating service by our server Kendall who went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our meal. Thanks, Kendall! I'll be back with friends!

Tiffany F.

Yelp
Awesome food and worth the wait French toast and cinnamon roll Go and get the cold brew too- we had breakfast one day and lunch the next

Rick C.

Yelp
I am here with my daughter. All my elder friends tell me to cherish these moments. Thankfully these are not memories yet. The Mesa. (Secret menu item) let's see... blue corn cake, chorizo, cheese, avocado, redskin cubed potatoes.... Like...yum. Sans the red peppers.... Served by Kendall. Fantastic waitress. The best! Couldn't have been better. We had a great conversation.... I learned that my daughter wants to be a soccer mom and drive a Range Rover..., so I told her that many things happen in life that could derail that dream.... divorces, health issues, etc... I told her that's all fine, but what if her husband can't provide anymore because of a health issue.... What if she ends up a single mom? I explained that she she should have her own career to fall back on. As a just in case. Okay... this is beyond the scope of my Morning Star review, lololol I cherished this moment at Morning Star with my daughter.

Chantel M.

Yelp
This place is always busy and it's no wonder with the diverse menu, delicious food and eclectic atmosphere. We love the colorful decor and southwest specialties this place has to offer. I ordered the spicy sonaron frittata. It had a nice level of heat and crunch from the fresh jalapeños and green onion... the guacamole was packed full of flavor too. If you get a chance, try one of their homemade salsas; my favorite is the roasted tomato. My hubby had the filloas which are crepes with verde pork shoulder inside. The sauce overtop was delicious and he asked for extra. He raved about the red skin potato side as well. My 3 year old daughter ate up all of her yogurt and declared it "yummy". Definitely come out and try some food, don't be surprised if there is a long wait. Especially on a weekend. Visit the quaint bookstore next door and explore the cute downtown of Grand Haven. This place is a gem.

Matt M.

Yelp
Are omelettes made differently in Michigan? Thin egg wrapped around minced meat and vegetables.... What? Not good at all. Their cinnamon roll was good, and the service was fantastic.

Ariana S.

Yelp
What a gem! Love this cute little breakfast place in the heart of downtown Grand Haven. Great food, great ambience with lots of colorful decor. We got there right when it opened so there was no wait and very quick service. They have omelettes, crepes, benedict's, French toast and more! Ps. Try the Pineapple Salsa it is fantastic!

Rita T.

Yelp
Awesome breakfasts!!! The services were fine and the ambiance was great, too. Only wished we could have eaten out l! The weather didn't cooperate Breakfast Quesadilla eggs Benedict...yum!!

Melanie N.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Food was great, the service was outstanding! This is worth a trip for sure!

Barbara Kennedy G.

Yelp
Morning Star Cafe never seems to disappoint! Nice portion size and so yummy. Huevos Rancheros

Mark S.

Yelp
Had breakfast here for the first time on a get-away weekend to Grand Haven. First, the place is fun and energetic and has a great, inventive menu. I had the Corn Cake Benny and my wife had gingerbread pancakes...great stuff. Second, their regular coffee is wonderful. Third, the service was some of the best I have experienced in quite some time. Somehow this place keeps a full staff on the floor and they all seemed pleasant and nice. Our server, Giana was wonderful! Asked us what we liked and made suggestions, and they were spot-on. Gave us some ideas on what to do around the area, and again,spot-on! All of our interactions here were great, but this young woman sets a stand for customer service. Highly recommend!

Ann R.

Yelp
Love this place! Service was great! So many options and delicious coffee!!! Visiting from out of town but we will be back! Definitely!!!

Tanya H.

Yelp
Wait time was terrible. Waited 50 minutes for a table and an hour and 5 minutes for our food. It was the 4th of July so I know they were busy but not worth it since the food was not good either. Quite a disappointment and will never return.

Bill S.

Yelp
Best Bloody Mary ever. One of the best breakfast spots I've found. Great food, great value.

Evan F.

Yelp
A breakfast spot with a 5-star review?!?!? I'm here to tell you an emphatic YES! These folks are totally knocking it out of the park with their Southwest-inspired breakfast fare. With a teensy bit of good weather still upon us, my wife and I opted for outdoor streetside dining on a recent crisp morning. Server was super-friendly, helpful and accommodating. Options were available for either light roast or dark roast coffee, and the dark roast was rich and smooth. My wife and I each ordered a dish, expecting to swap so we could sample the other...but it turned out we each liked our original choices so much that after a few swapped bites we swapped back to enjoy each stellar choice! My chorizo hash was fantastic with two over easy eggs on top and a grilled tortilla on the side. The chorizo was spicy enough and did not overpower the dish, the meat also mixed well with the grilled veggies and potatoes. My wife's cerdo blue corn cake benedict was tangy and also delicious. It came topped with shredded pulled pork and a bright salsa verde that absolutely made the dish. Would return here in a heartbeat...and from what we saw inside they also seem to be taking the COVID-19 situation very seriously; would feel comfortable eating in there as well. Terrific job, team!

C T R.

Yelp
Great little mom and pop breakfast place. It was mid week and yet very busy, with a wait time of about 10 minutes to get a table. For a local place the menu for breakfast was expansive - and every thing appeared to be made from scratch. All four of us enjoyed our selections. Smiling customers were in abundance. A very happy place. And no wonder, the employees were happy. The star of our breakfast was Kendall, our server. What a nice way to start our day, having the friendliest person with that smiling face help us. I have not been so impacted by a person's sunniness in years. Just charming. Thank you for making my day Kendall !

Kylie H.

Yelp
The wait wasn't long at all and even if it was they have chalk markers that they let people draw with! The costumer service was amazing and all the staff was nice and very helpful! I totally recommend! The food was also very good and yummy!

Johnna E.

Yelp
Love the ambiance of the place. The menu is very interesting but leans to the more spicy ingredients. I ordered biscuits with sausage gravy and biscuits and it was a tad spicy. Hubby ordered the breakfast burrito, he said the chorizo was spicy but flavor was good. Son ordered the Cadillac omlet and he said it was good. We also split the cinnamon roll, it was good, nothing too special about it.

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
Fantastic spot for breakfast. Thanks to Yelp, we found this place on our way home from Michigan. The food is fresh, and they make their sauces and chorizo in house. I was a bit disappointed in their coffee since I prefer strong coffee. If you get a chance, order their cinnamon roll-yummy! I highly recommend this place!!!

Tami V.

Yelp
Cute little cafe for breakfast. Obviously, the locals love it because even on Monday morning it was packed. Great rich decaf coffee (damn doctor says decaf) had a homemade cinnamon roll (yum) Hubby had sausage gravy biscuits with eggs. He added toast and made egg sandwiches. Said it was great. My Jeffries Eggs Benedict had wonderful bacon and avocado with two perfectly poached eggs and tender muffin. Side of fruit was just right. Wonderful meal that kept us through lunch to dinner!
