Moro Rock isn’t a traditional trail, but rather a climb up a series of steps carved into the granite. It’s a workout, no doubt—there are quite a few steps—but the climb is very doable for most people if you pace yourself. There are spots along the way where you can step aside, sit, or catch your breath, so you can go at your own pace. I saw a wide range of visitors making the climb: older adults, younger folks, kids, and people of all fitness levels.
It can be chilly at the bottom, but you’ll warm up quickly as you climb. I’d estimate it takes around 10–20 minutes to reach the top depending on breaks. A few things to keep in mind: it’s not accessible for those with serious mobility limitations, crutches, or injuries, and the steps can get slippery in winter or summer rain, so good shoes are a must.
The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking. I went just before sunset and it was gorgeous, though I’ve heard catching the sunset from up there is even better. If you’re afraid of heights, it might not be for you—you are very high up with views in every direction.
Overall, if you’re able, this is a must-do for incredible panoramic views of Sequoia National Park. Bring water, pace yourself, and don’t forget your camera!
