I am happy to be able to add another five-star review for Morrill Mansion. I stayed there for only one night on a recent trip to Portland, but I would have been happy to stay longer, and I will be happy to book again if I return.
I called a number of B&Bs on the ride from Rhode Island to Portland, as this was quite the impromptu trip, and all of them were booked, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that Morrill Mansion had a couple of rooms open. David, the innkeeper, greeted us upon arrival and was very helpful in suggesting restaurants that we might want to visit based on our likes and dislikes. He obviously knows a great deal about Portland and is passionate about its culture, which is a great attribute for someone who does what he does!
After we checked in, David showed us to our room, the Vaughn room, which was very nice, cozy, and very reasonably priced to boot! It was a medium-sized room with a big comfy bed, plenty of bottled waters in the mini-fridge, and so many of the comforts of home that one desires in a B&B. David even has a sizable collection of movies, which actually came in handy as I was getting over a cold during our visit and we called it a night relatively early.
There is a living room on every floor with hot water to make coffee and a plate of home-baked goodies that I could not partake in, but I was told that they were absolutely delicious.
In the morning, we enjoyed quite the breakfast spread. There were scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, home fries, fresh fruit, some kind of yummy berry and oatmeal crumble, as well as toast, bagels, cream cheese, and yogurts. Yum!
I am not super familiar with Portland, but I believe that the B&B is in the West End, so it's a bit of a walk to get to the Old Port, which is where most of the action is in this city. Maybe fifteen minutes, though, nothing outrageous. I personally like to walk through a city to get to know it, so this was not a problem for me, however if you're looking for somewhere super central, this might not be the place for you.
All in all, however, I have zero complaints, and I would gladly recommend Morrill Mansion to anyone visiting Portland!
