Awesome. Everything was perfect. Beautiful building. Excellent location. Check if you have off street parking, I did and it was helpful! Room and all things super clean, room was beautiful with nice plants big windows, heat cranks. Mattress was firm but quality (no springs) which made me sleep great. I wish there was more than one shelf in the bathroom, that was tough haha. Silly complaint though, perfect high end hotel feeling inn.

Our stay at the Morrill Mansion has been excellent! There is a lot of charm and character in our room and having a parking space has been great. It is perfectly situated so you can walk to some great food options, and Portland in general has been easy to drive/park in. Our host Katrina has been very polite and professional and made sure to include a booklet of where to eat, as well as shampoo/conditioner/body wash- both the food and supplies were very appreciated after our first long day of travel.

Quite simply, this was the best Bed and Breakfast experience we've ever had. David was an absolutely incredible host. Breakfast each morning was amazing. It was different every day and over our 4 night stay we had: Custards, Quiches, Lobster potatoes, fresh eggs, blueberry crisps and much more. We had a room with a jet spa bath, which was nice after a long day touring Portland, ME. David also provided us lots of history on the area and recommendations. If you want an extraordinary stay in the Portland, ME area, look no further. You will not be disappointed.

My husband surprised me with a trip to Portland and we stayed at Morrill Mansion. It was fantastic! It is in a great location, it is safe, it is clean. The rooms are lovely with awesome Jacuzzi jet tubs. Every morning David, the innkeeper, had an amazing breakfast spread ready for the guests. He is a fantastic cook. There were also yummy goodies in the sitting rooms each day as well as tea and coffee. I can not wait to go back for another visit!

We loved our stay. The breakfasts were delicious, bed was comfortable and accommodations were clean and welcoming. The afternoon treats were so tasty too. The location is very convenient and parking is onsite and easy. We didn’t notice any street noise and slept well each night. It was very convenient to have a mini fridge in the room. We can’t wait to stay again.

If it's just you and a loved one (no kids under 14 allowed) I high suggest this place! The best Inn I've been in and very friendly staff. David is very welcoming and tries to make sure you enjoy your stay. The breakfast was good too but this place is also super close to do many restaurants. Parking can be tough, be sure to back into your spot, and DO NOT check in past 7 or call late at night/early morning. Be sure to communicate arrival. Also, 3 flights of stairs for some rooms, so definitely be wise about what bags you bring. The bathroom for our room (back cove) was gorgeous. It was very intimate room and welcoming and the jetted tub was a nice touch. We came to celebrate our 5 year anniversary but will be back!!!

A perfect B&B to stay in Portland. The place is comfortable, clean and stylish. Staff are friendly and helpful. Living room provides 24hours snacks, coffee and tea. After the checking out time, I had a meeting to join. They allowed me to use the living room for another two hours. Beautiful neighborhood. I parked my car in the yard reserved for guest free parking and walked to downtown and cruises port. Breakfast was gorgeous. What wonderful experience of staying in Morrill. Thank you, David!

Google
We made day-of reservations (luckily for us there was a cancellation!) for 3 nights. David was a gracious and attentive host. We stayed in the Promenade Suite which was comfortable, clean, and spacious, it'd be perfect for a family of 4. With a sitting room just outside of the suite it's as if you have 3 rooms to yourself! David put out a delicious spread for breakfast each day, always with a fresh baked good! It is within walking distance of a number of wonderful restaurants and the Portland Museum of Art. We would absolutely stay here again!

Yelp
This is a lovely inn. The room was as expected, clean, nicely furnished and appointed. Our room was on the third floor, so my knees are complaining, but no matter. The bed was very comfortable with an assortment of different pillow types. I brought mine but left them in the car and my knees said nevermind then. The first floor has a common area, also lovely, with an ice/water machine, Bunn coffee maker, mugs, etc. A perfect spot for our Portland two day getaway. Will return!

Yelp
Bed and breakfasts have such a personal, vintage touch to them, and this is one of the best I've ever stayed at. It isn't super close to Old Port, but it's about a 20-25 minute walk, even faster if you have a car or bike. Our host, David, was so gracious and kind. He gave us all kinds of tips on where to eat, what to see, and which neighborhoods to check out. And the breakfast options. Holy moly. These are some of the things David made: lobster souffle; turkey bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast puff pastry; raspberry custard; pancakes with wild blueberry compote; lobster home fries. Honestly, some of our best meals in Portland were eaten right in this very B&B. He even puts snacks in the second floor lounge area (there's also tea and chips) every day, and on an especially hot day he put out a pitcher of pink lemonade. It seems like almost all the cooking and cleaning is done by him. I'm not sure how he manages it and yet everything is flawless, but there you go. Reserve your room early because it was booked solid the whole time we were there. Totally worth it.

Yelp
This was the first time my husband and I stayed in a bed and breakfast. Hands down best experience. Clean, AMAZING breakfasts, convenient to Old Port, and comfortable beds/rooms. David the owner is wonderful, and has though of everything to make your stay a wonderful experience. Do yourself a favor and book a room if you're staying in Portland, you won't regret it!!

Amanda M.

Yelp
Had a lovely stay here with my boyfriend over spring break while visiting Portland! David was such a great host and Morrill Mansion is a perfect place to stay, cannot say enough praise for this B&B! The rooms were beautiful, keeping the antique charm while also having newly renovated bathrooms, and the beds were so comfortable! Breakfast each morning was delicious with many different options; there's a different hot option each morning with fresh made pastries or cold cereal and toast. Each afternoon there were also fresh cookies in the sitting area! We spent most of our time in Old Port, which was a 5 min drive or a 25 min walk (plenty of parking in Old Port so it wasn't a hassle). However, this is a great location near restaurants on Congress St. David was wonderful and made our stay in Portland memorable. Highly recommend to anyone traveling to Portland!

Yelp
We chose Morrill Mansion as our very first B&B ever, and we were so impressed by every aspect. The service and hospitality is amazing, I cannot emphasize this enough. My husband is gluten free and lactose intolerant, and David went out of his way to oblige his special diet by preparing a special GF/DF version of the communal breakfast every day. He remembered our names and was fully accommodating to us in every way, which is so rare to find in the hospitality industry these days. The B&B itself is very welcoming, and the attention to detail makes you feel even more at home. We stayed in the Promenade Suite, which was a cozy, quaint, and away from all the other rooms. It was perfect for us. The room was cleaned daily and everything was great. Love the added bonus of a parking spot in the lot behind the building -- we were glad to not worry about street parking and having to interpret confusing parking signs! The B&B is located nearby the downtown area with lots of shops/restaurants. We were able to walk there in about 15 minutes, which was fine for us. I could not have asked for more, and I would 100% recommend a stay at Morrill Mansion for anyone who is visiting Portland. It's way more affordable than a hotel room!

Yelp
From the extensive breakfast and gorgeous rooms to the freshly baked cookies and thoughtful recommendations, Morrill Mansion is just perfect. From the moment we walked in the door, we have received nothing but gracious hospitality, fascinating conversation and wonderfully homey amenities. Service is attentive and personalized without being overbearing and the rooms are the perfect blend of sophisticated and wonderfully cozy. The building itself oozes history in a neighborhood which does the same. The location is amazing with most of the best restaurants, shops, museums and galleries within easy walking distance. And with lots of nightlife oprions and concert halls, it's a great spot for younger couples enjoying a weekend away too. Just make sure you don't skip the breakfast because it's so thoroughly good.

Yelp
I have stayed in B&B's all over the country and this one ranks right up at the top. The service, hospitality, the room, the amenities, the breakfast were are all top notch. Overall value is great I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends and family.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to take a trip for our anniversary to Portland after many of our friends raved about it. Hotel options in the city are limited or very pricey. We stumbled on the Morrill Mansion through Trip Advisor and oh, what a find it was! We arrived on a Thursday evening wee bit late due to traffic and a slightly delayed start. I phoned the inn keeper, David to let him know we'd be arriving a bit later than check-in. He was more than courteous and left our keys in a place where we could easily access them. The delight continued as we made our way to our room (Back Cove). The room was well appointed with plenty of space, a large bath tub, plush towels, dish for jewelry/change, DVD player, AC, spacious closet, etc. The entire room was well decorated with high-quality, tasteful linens. The next morning we were delighted to wake up to a very ample breakfast spread that included yogurts, fresh squeezed juices, coffee, tea, fresh-made baked goods, custard, and a wonderful apple crisp-like offering. We met David who was helpful in suggesting activities and places to eat. Over the course of the weekend, we were more and more thrilled with our stay. David has truly thought of every last detail, including a lovely sitting room with a great selection of DVDs and homemade afternoon snacks. He also has set out a listing of some of his favorite places in the city for dining, which was a nice touch since we didn't exactly come prepared :-). All and all, our stay far exceeded our expectations. What was more surprising is that the Inn hasn't been open for very long (a little over a year, maybe more), and you would never have guessed it by how smoothly everything there runs. The Morrill Mansion is a gem and what I feel is the best option for travellers staying in or around the Portland area.

Yelp
David, the host, is wonderful!!! I cannot say enough good things about him and this B&B. The home is very cozy and David makes you feel right at home. Upon arriving, we were checked in and taken to our "back cove" room on the 3rd floor. The back cove is spacious with a beautiful bathroom, a TV, and even a little jar of yummy complimentary chocolates and water bottles. The bathroom is LOVELY! I couldn't have asked for better water pressure (and the water was hot!). On the second floor there is a small living room with tons of DVD's to watch in your room, books, and homemade snacks (we had delicious whoopie pies one day and chocolate chip coconut cookies the next day). One of the highlights of my stay was the breakfast!! David REALLY puts a lot of effort into preparing delicious and fresh breakfast dishes every morning. This isn't your regular eggs and bacon- he made turkey sausage egg soufflés, raspberry cream, fresh fruit crumble, the best French toast I've ever had, fresh preserves, very fresh fruit, yogurt, breads, and hot coffee. I could go on and on.. Great host, great food, and great location. Thank you David.

Laura K.

Yelp
Top notch. While I only stayed here one night everything was perfect. The Back Cove room had a giant bed and light filled bathroom. It was very quiet and this light sleeper slept like a stone. David is a top notch host. He greeted us and accommodated our early arrival. Parking was a breeze with a lot right behind the house. The little touches really set this place apart. There's a lounge on the second floor with fresh baked goods (we had brownies) and there's also a tons of DVD's. The coffee and tea stations on each floor were a nice touch too. Breakfast is above and beyond once again, with eggs, turkey sausage, baked fruit compote and all the fixings. I would take Morrill Mansion over a hotel any day. I really enjoyed my brief stay. It was one of my favorite Bnbs.

Yelp
My husband and I have stayed at Morrill several times now, and also had many of our guests stay here for our wedding in Portland. Our experience has been exceptional every single time. Fantastic location, great value for the price, comfortable, quiet rooms, and David is such a caring and gracious host. I cannot forget to mention the 5 star breakfast and afternoon baked goods he makes every day. Our wedding guests are STILL talking about how good the food was at Morrill. It's worth mentioning that we typically stay in AirBNB's - however, there is no reason to when you have B&B experience this good. HIGHLY recommend.

Yelp
No worries! Each year my high school buddies and I go on a weekend getaway. I arrange for the B&B and so of course I want everything to be just right and Morrill Mansion was wonderful, in a beautifully restored 1800's town house. Our room was the Morrill Suite, perfect for three. Two of us had the main room and one in the alcove with plenty of personal space. The alcove had a comfortable daybed, with a lounging chair and ottoman, and that's where the refrigerator and OH MY a wine cooler, wine glasses, and corkscrew no less. Did they read our minds?! The main room had a comfy queen bed, armoire and dresser, 2 side chairs grouped with a footstool and side table with a jar of chocolates. The Morrill Suite is on the second floor, with entry though your own little foyer and separate doors to the bathroom and the bedroom area. Down the hall there was a common room with hot pot and tea/coffee all the time, and a platter of goodies - cookies, whoopee pies, brownies - put out in the late afternoon. There was yet another common room on the ground floor, separate from the breakfast room. The rooms and common areas have ample space to spread out. Location - Yes it is a 1-1.5 mile walk to the intensely busy waterfront but honestly that was far enough away for quiet but close enough to walk or Uber ($5-6) to get there. We walked when we wanted and there are beautiful old houses on the way, I was so impressed with all the well-maintained flower beds. The Mansion is a relatively easy access (half mile) to I-295 if you have a daytrip to Acadia - or the must-run to LL Bean flagship store in Freeport. The airport is just 3 miles away. They provide one parking spot for most rooms and you really need it - street parking is highly controlled and scarce. Breakfast - ample, hot, well prepared. The sideboard always had a hot main selection, with additional scones or muffins, a fresh fruit selection, and a chilled selection (peach crisp, vanilla creams, bread pudding). During our stay the main selections included pancakes with a blueberry compote; French toast with cooked apples; and another was individual quiches including lobster! Other sideboards were laid with assorted breads and bagels, yogurts, fruits, juices - so much to choose from - plenty of fortification for sightseeing. Tips - drive a small car, the lot can be tight if you are the last one in. Pack in small bags, the stairs are a little tight and curvy for big bags and the entrance has steps and double doors to get through. The entrance is locked once all the guests are checked in, we appreciated the security, and your key opens the door. As of this writing, the website photos could use an update - the rooms are actually a bit more nicely decorated now.

Yelp
Morrill Mansion B & B came as a very pleasant surprise. I had to book a stay in Maine on short notice and was finding that all of the hotels were booked up and/or grossly inflated in price, thanks to the pandemic. Running out of options, I started looking at B & Bs and found that Morrill Mansion was reasonably priced and well-reviewed. I am glad that the fates directed me there because it ended up being a charming and interesting place to stay. It was wonderfully quiet, and guests had a real sense of privacy even though some of the rooms are pretty close together. The rooms have nice little Victorian touches without being overdone. The owner and host, David, is extremely gracious and accommodating in addition to being a good cook! I found myself waking up early each morning looking forward to seeing what his breakfast creations would entail, and I'm not even someone who normally eats breakfast. I would stay here again and would certainly recommend it to others, especially those who are unfamiliar with Maine and would like to experience some of its personalized hospitality.

Yelp
And now, I will pay tribute to the Morrill Mansion in the only way appropriate: A love poem. ::clears throat:: Tucked right off Portland's main thoroughfare Lies dear Morrill Mansion. 'Tis beyond compare. Our room was near perfect - nay, divine That bed! Those sheets! Oh I must make them mine! After exploring Portland's hot spots, We returned to our room, And slept like wee tots. Breakfast at nine, cookies at three. Fresh, warm, delicious; I ate with sheer glee. David, the owner - a gem, delights Answered all questions and mapped out the sights. If again I chance to be Portland-bound, At dear Morrill Mansion, I'd surely be found. ::curtsy::

Yelp
It takes a lot for me to wax enthusiasm about a B&B but David and the Mansion really deliver. Great location, lovely home, meticulous attention to detail. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay, and Portland as well. Try some of Davids recommendations for good eats and take the Mail Boat for a fun and informative Bay tour.

Yelp
Basically, a good B & B experience has to be boiled down to its fundamentals: the bed, the breakfast, the innkeeper, and the location. Nothing more, nothing less. I thusly feel comfortable donating the glory of my 200th review to the Morrill Mansion. There was nothing about this experience that I would have changed, not a bite of breakfast I would have spat out, not a moment spent in bed getting whupped by my boyfriend in a game of Battleship that I consider squandered, not a word exchanged with Innkeeper David that I would have unspoken, and not a moment wasted getting into the heart of Portland. We were upgraded to the Bramhall room, which was spacious and inviting, with beautiful Renaissance bedding and a couch for optimal lounging. The bathroom was clean but nothing special, and there was a mini-fridge replete with two cold bottles of water. And the bed. THE BED. Squishy beyond belief. Had it not been obviously stuffed into my overnight bag, I would have stolen a pillow. And the breakfast. THE BREAKFAST. We were allowed to come and go as we please, within reason, and were treated to the most delicious brunch-style vittles: custards and pancakes, sausage and fruit. The dining room is set up with multiple small tables and small Tiffany-style lamps, and we dined in splendor as though invited to afternoon tea in Great Aunt Agatha's antique sitting room in 1904. The house is nicely off the beaten path with ample parking, and only a five-minute drive from Portland proper. It's wi-fi ready, although that might not please your girlfriend. David is a complete sweetheart, knowledgeable yet unobtrusive, who will engage you in a great conversation or just hand you a map and leave you be. So take his advice, and ours: carb-load in the morning on breakfast and free warm cookies around every nook, go to Local 188 for dinner, grab and armful of boardgames from the parlor room, and spend all remaining hours in bed.

Yelp
Morrill Mansion = Magnificent! My boyfriend and I planned a brief one-night trip to Portland (sort of a last hurrah before leaving the Boston area for good) and deliberated over which bed and breakfast to choose. So many options! My friend AJ K. highly recommended Morrill Mansion; the pictures looked lovely so we thought we'd give it a try. We weren't disappointed! It truly is a nineteenth-century mansion - large (six guest rooms on the second and third floors) and elegantly decorated. It still has all the charm of an old house, but it the amenities are very modern. We stayed in the Vaughan Room, located on the third floor. It was beautiful! The bed was big and cushy, with lots of fluffy pillows (and who doesn't like fluffy pillows??), there were two windows which let in a lot of light, two large mirrors, a TV and DVD player, a mini-fridge, and a little bowl of chocolates. The bathroom was neat and spacious, with a tile stand-up shower, shampoo, conditioner, and a nice hair dryer. It was just a really comfortable and romantic environment. For breakfast, David laid out eggs and sausage, hash browns, yogurt, toast, bagels, muffins, lots of fresh fruit, and little bowls of vanilla custard (custard for breakfast = brilliant). The room was so cozy, and David and the other guests were so nice, I only wish I could have stayed longer! If my boyfriend and I find ourselves in Portland again, we'll definitely stay here.

Liz A.

Yelp
My mom and I spent one night at this amazing B&B on our way back from northern Maine to Boston. All I can see is PERFECT. David is the nicest man in the world. He greeted us at the door on a stormy night, followed closely by the adorably pug Moby. After a swift check-in, he grabbed our bags, showed us around and set us up in our room, Back Cove. It was everything we wanted after a long trip: serene greens and tans, lush bedding, jacuzzi tub, flat screen tv + cable + dvd player. A hot drink station on our (top) floor, a cozy living room with treats, games and movies on the second floor and CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. This place is impeccable; every detail has been thought of. After a sound and cushy night's sleep, we were greeted with the best breakfast, all done by David himself who slaves away in the kitchen while we chatted with other guests. Eggs with ham, homemade raspberry muffins, fruit, juice, coffee, toast/bagels - and the custard! It has been mentioned in reviews for MM before but it is really to die for. There is absolutely nothing I would change about my stay except for having at least one more night there. Will definitely return!

Emma R.

Yelp
I am happy to be able to add another five-star review for Morrill Mansion. I stayed there for only one night on a recent trip to Portland, but I would have been happy to stay longer, and I will be happy to book again if I return. I called a number of B&Bs on the ride from Rhode Island to Portland, as this was quite the impromptu trip, and all of them were booked, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that Morrill Mansion had a couple of rooms open. David, the innkeeper, greeted us upon arrival and was very helpful in suggesting restaurants that we might want to visit based on our likes and dislikes. He obviously knows a great deal about Portland and is passionate about its culture, which is a great attribute for someone who does what he does! After we checked in, David showed us to our room, the Vaughn room, which was very nice, cozy, and very reasonably priced to boot! It was a medium-sized room with a big comfy bed, plenty of bottled waters in the mini-fridge, and so many of the comforts of home that one desires in a B&B. David even has a sizable collection of movies, which actually came in handy as I was getting over a cold during our visit and we called it a night relatively early. There is a living room on every floor with hot water to make coffee and a plate of home-baked goodies that I could not partake in, but I was told that they were absolutely delicious. In the morning, we enjoyed quite the breakfast spread. There were scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, home fries, fresh fruit, some kind of yummy berry and oatmeal crumble, as well as toast, bagels, cream cheese, and yogurts. Yum! I am not super familiar with Portland, but I believe that the B&B is in the West End, so it's a bit of a walk to get to the Old Port, which is where most of the action is in this city. Maybe fifteen minutes, though, nothing outrageous. I personally like to walk through a city to get to know it, so this was not a problem for me, however if you're looking for somewhere super central, this might not be the place for you. All in all, however, I have zero complaints, and I would gladly recommend Morrill Mansion to anyone visiting Portland!

George N.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! David is truly passionate about the business. He is very attentive and very customer oriented. The breakfasts were all very good and the rooms were super clean. The midday/afternoon cookies and brownies were appreciated along with coffee and tea available all day! That's going the extra mile. I highly recommend MMBB

K V.

Yelp
This was the first B&B I've ever been to and this was also the first trip I made to Portland. Our stay at the Morrill Mansion was excellent and so much fun. David, the innkeeper, was a very easy going and conscientious host - he was extremely helpful. He gave us great recommendations of places to visit and and eat. He is a native of the area and is very knowledgeable. We were also given lots of privacy. We stayed in the Vaughn Room, which was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was not huge, but it was sufficiently sized. The food was pretty good. The breakfast was tasty and filling. We also enjoyed the daily dessert provided in the common room. If you are visiting Portland, definitely stay at the Morrill Mansion - you will not be disappointed!

Shik S.

Yelp
I stayed at the Morrill Mansion on my first visit to Portland. I wasn't so sure about the location when I first pulled up, given that it is located near a hospital and is on a fairly busy street, but the building itself is quite lovely. The Bed and Breakfast is impeccably maintained and tastefully decorated. David is friendly but definitely very reserved. He allows you to have your privacy but will also provide helpful suggestions for dining and exploring. I stayed in the Vaughn room. I was a bit disappointed that it had a standing shower and not a bathtub. After the four hour drive from Connecticut I was looking forward to a good soak. That aside, the room was very comfortable with all of the amenities that you would expect, including a mini fridge and some of the most plush towels that I've ever dried off with. There is also free WiFi which was great. I have a bit of a fragrance sensitivity so I was not fond of the plug-in in the bathroom but I should probably have requested a fragrance free room ahead of time. Breakfast runs from 8-10 and though I came down at about 9:45, there was still quite a bit of food to choose from including fresh fruit, juices, coffee, scones baked by David, chocolate mouse and french toast. Very tasty! Overall this was a great value for money and a gem of a find. I plan on returning the next time I visit Portland. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We had such a great time at the Morrill Mansion. The innkeeper is incredibly friendly and the inn is clean, homey and cute. It's a little walk (15 mins) to Old Port, but its a really nice walk in nice weather. The innkeeper took the time to give us restaurant recommendations and even brought out the map to show us where everything was located. We stayed in the Vaughn Room, which is on the third floor. Small and cute with a private bath and a really comfy bed. Every night there are brownies, cookies, or some other treat in the second floor family room. If you're looking for one of those crazy B&B elaborate breakfasts, you won't find it here. It is a continental breakfast, but much nicer than a hotel. There were muffins, hot and cold cereal, bagels, cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs and homefries one day and French toast another, and of course coffee, tea and hot chocolate. I definitely recommend staying here!

Deanna D.

Yelp
So we stayed at the Morrill Mansion over the weekend and it was just perfect! We really enjoyed the coziness and comfort of staying at this B&B. The ambiance throughout the house was very warm and inviting. We stayed in the McGuire room and it was just the right size for the two of use. The room was well kept and well decorated. The bed was very comfortable, the sheet were also great. The room came equipped with a fridge, TV, alarm clock, hair dryer, etc. There was also wine glasses and a wine bottle opener in the room---Very nice touch! The bathroom was also very nice. The towels were great quality and super soft (big thing for me)!! The innkeeper David is very helpful and an amazing breakfast cook! The breakfast was great and it included: mini cheese omelets, roasted potatoes, assortment of fruit and baked goods and the best part was the homemade bread pudding--It was delicious! There was also an assortment of f fresh coffee, tea, and fresh juices too. The baked chocolate chip and coconut brownies were also amazing! Its conveniently located being about a 10-15 min. walk to downtown. There is parking on site and the area is very quite at night. We will definitely be staying here again the next time we are in Portland!

Dawn M.

Yelp
David was a great host and wonderful cook - the woopie pies were delicious! Room was clean and we had a good nights sleep. Breakfast was amazing and filling. Totally recommend for a night in Portland.

Jay E.

Yelp
We stayed at the Morrill Mansion for one night on or way up to Blue Hill for a few days of relaxation. It is by far the best B&B we have ever visited, it was incredible. The host David is very friendly and helpful, on top of that he is a great chef. Our room was spotless and nicely decorated, it includes a TV with a plethora of channels and free WiFi. It's the small details that sets this place apart from other establishments; freshly baked desserts in the guest common room, coffee & tea setup throughout the B&B, chocolates and bottled water in the room, fresh baked goods, juice, etc.. for breakfast. Highly recommended.

Amanda S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for a weekend away, offseason, and we had a wonderful time. We stayed in the Morrill Suite for $149/night, and the room included a private bathroom with a jetted bathtub, bath salts, a mini fridge, free bottled waters and chocolates, a wine opener, and cocktail glasses. (*The only thing I would mention is, that if you don't want your room cleaned, make sure to tell the Innkeeper-there is no option to ask for your room to be or not to be cleaned, so we assumed it would not be touched, and we were wrong!*) We were located on the second floor, the same floor as the common room which also included tea, coffee, & hot chocolate 24 hours/day, board games, fresh baked snacks, and a free DVD library to choose from to take back to your room! The B&B is run single-handedly by David and his adorable pug, Moby, and David is so very friendly while still being respectful of your privacy. He makes breakfast every morning, and it's a small buffet with many things to choose from, including a hot and cold homemade treat, fresh fruit, cold and hot cereal, bagels, english muffins, juice, milk, and coffee. If you're even planning to spend some time in Portland, I would absolutely recommend staying here. It's far enough away from Old Port that the area is quiet, but if you don't mind the walk on a nice day, you can walk to where the restaurants and shops are in 15-20 minutes. This was my first experience at a B&B, and I left with a wonderful, warm, and relaxed feeling I've never gotten from a hotel.

Yelp
What a find! We just got back from a weekend in Portland, and by far one of the best parts was this fantastic B&B. We stayed in the "Back Cove" room--a bit on the small side but it didn't feel at all cramped or stuffy. For the price, you really can't beat it: huge comfy bed with great linens, tv, dvd player, mini-fridge, closet, iron, blowdryer, jet-tub, shower, bath salts, wine opener, and complimentary chocolates all in our room/bathroom! The place is decorated beautifully and the rooms are all unique and gorgeous. Plus, the owner David has a pretty decent selection of DVDs that you can borrow for the evening (he assured us that he was trying to increase his "chick flick" collection), plus a cozy common room where he sets out tea and homemade baked goods daily (we had brownies one day and a delicious coconut chocolate chip bars the next). Every morning he makes a delicious breakfast--an egg dish (we had a ham & biscuit quiche-type-thingy one day, and lobster the next!), a great berry crumble, a custard, hardboiled eggs, plus bagels, toast, english muffins, cereal, juice, coffee, milk, yogurt, fruit... it was quite the spread! Not only were the food and amenities top-notch, David was very helpful, offering suggestions on where to eat in the area, fun things to do, and actually gave my girlfriend his secret "detergent recipe" that he uses to make the sheets and towels smell so good! That, and his pug Moby is pretty darn cool. We'll definitely be back--it beats any hotel you could get and is by far the best place I've ever stayed, bar none! I can't recommend it enough!

Yelp
I had a GREAT stay at Morrill Mansion B&B. Owner David was so nice, and helpful, without being invasive or pushy. The B&B was recently remodeled, and each room looks and feels more like a room in your own home (but more thematically decorated), rather than a kitchy, floral, antiquated B&B. The beds were comfy with great lines. Ralph Lauren fluffy towels. Nice hairdryer. Mini-fridge, wine glasses and wine opener. Free wireless. A list of favorite nearby restaurants, and driving directions to recommended points of interest. Amazing, entirely home-cooked, breakfast in the morning. Late-night cookies set out in the common room. So many little touches that really made the difference in our stay. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We would easily rate our Morrill Mansion B&B experience as one of the top 5 of any we have stayed at (and we've stayed at a lot)! David really cares that his guests get the best total experience possible...from recommendations of where to go/eat to the comfortable stay/bedding and superb breakfast. Best bread pudding ever and generous, as well as varied, delicious breakfast options. An A+ experience!

Yelp
Morrill Mansion is the first bed and breakfast I've ever been to and I think it'll be hard for any other B&B to top the experience my husband and I had there. We went off peak season (mid-April) so it wasn't too busy and we got a really good rate ($99 a night). David, the innkeeper was amazing and made sure we were well taken care of. In addition to cooking a delicious breakfast each morning, he leaves a different homemade, yummy treat every day in the common room for guests to snack on. One day it was coconut, chocolate chip cookies, the next it was blondies. If he sold a little cookbook of his creations, I would have bought one in a heartbeat. My husband and I stayed in the Back Cove room on the 3rd floor. The room itself is small but cozy. It comes with free WiFi (a huge plus), a mini-fridge which David stocks with bottled water, a spa tub with bath salts, and really good hairdryer. Also, there's a small table right outside the doorway with an electric kettle, mugs, and everything you need to make coffee or tea. I have only two complaints and neither one would actually prevent me from returning. One is that the radiators kicked on at some point in the night and made high-pitched whistling sounds that are not great for light sleepers like my husband. We found that turning the knob of the radiator so that it was completely closed fixed the problem. The second complaint is that our bathroom had a really faint mildew smell. I'm not sure where it came from since everything is so clean. Cracking open a window while we were out was a quick and easy solution to keep the room well ventilated. It's not surprising to me that Morrill Mansion is the #1 B&B on Trip Advisor. It's clean and cute, the location is convenient to just about anywhere you'd want to go, and David is a gem of an innkeeper.

Yelp
Morrill Mansion is a great bed-and-breakfast in the wonderful city of Portland, Maine. MM is slightly outside the main downtown area, but I kind of liked this; it was easy to walk to the main area of town and the waterfront. MM is instead in a pleasant residential area with beautiful old brick buildings and tall trees. The B&B is once of the best I've been to. The rooms are tidy and furnished with tasteful antiques. There are fresh, delicious cookies in a nice common living room on the second floor. The owner is very nice and is pretty flexible about checking in, etc. The only thing keeping the Morrill Mansion from a solid five stars is that they don't have a full-service breakfast. Their continental breakfast is great, but I was a little sad that I couldn't have something hot. That was minor, though.

Yelp
The perfect Portland B&B stay. Thanks David for taking such great care of us. I was in Portland for work and decided to book at the Morrill Mansion. The location was quiet, yet near everything. Our room was roomy and so comfortable. Every afternoon I would come home to fresh baked treats. If you want to taste the best whoopie pies in Portland, stay here. Every morning a full breakfast was ready for me before I left. Kev joined me and was given sightseeing tips by David making it a really wonderful holiday while I worked...not fair! Loved this place!!! We stayed in the Bramhall Room...spacious with a private bath.

Yelp
Very quaint and we stayed in the Vaughn room. Bathroom towels were so great and hair dryer equipped. Small mini fridge and wine opener were useful. They have some board games and DVD collection to choose from. We went the weekend of Thanksgiving just to get out of town and it was a quiet night as if we had the entire place to ourselves. The Innkeeper was very nice and unintrusive almost to the point where I thought he may not like us very much but realize he's probably just trying to stay out of our way and let us relax. Breakfast was great and his suggestions for restaurants at the wharf were excellent. I would go when the weather is nicer so we could do more stuff in the area but a great, clean, cozy place to relax in any case.

Yelp
David was an excellent host. He was super helpful in helping me to modify our reservation after booking. He greeted us with a very warm welcome and made sure we had everything we needed to have a great stay in Portland. He has some great recommendations within walking distance and throughout the city. His breakfast was outstanding, most notably the lobster hash browns. We can't wait to stay here again on our next stop through town.

Yelp
Meticulously maintained with obvious pride by the delightful owner who made us feel welcome. The smell of freshly baked muffins wafted from the kitchen. The rooms are small but perfectly appointed with everything we would need. The owner's attention to detail is remarkable. Although it's not in the busy downtown, we found the location quiet and convenient, within a vigorous walk to the waterfront. Close to bars, restaurants and music galore. A great find!

Yelp
Morrill Mansion was such a find! Normally I'd stay with family in the area, but they were full up for a holiday weekend. After a brief search online for non-chain overnight options, I'm really glad that I found this one and they had an open room. David, the innkeeper, was gracious, well informed about local goings-on, and is no slouch in the kitchen (cookies or breakfast). We took the Marston room, which was comfy, quiet, and well outfitted (tv w/dvd player, mini fridge, alarm clock/radio, and slim space heater if we needed it). Not your typical B&B, and I'm grateful for it! We'll absolutely be staying here again when visiting family in the area.

Yelp
Beautiful old brick mansion restored into a bed and breakfast. We stayed for 2 nights in the Mcguire room on the 3rd floor, which had a queen size bed and a private bath. You can tell the owner/operator cares a lot about the quality of this place and the comfort of the guests. Noise: Although the house is very old, we did not hear any of the other guests or noises from the other rooms or hallways. Very quiet. No creaking, plumbing, or ghost noises! Bedroom: Small room with queen-size mattress, newer television, refrigerator. Mattress was newer and very comfortable. It was difficult to wake up in the morning. Bathroom: The bathroom adjourning our room was recently remodeled and very well finished. My concern with old houses is disruptions such as hot water running out 3 mins into a shower or smells and mold. This bathroom was IMMACULATE, clean, and had plenty of lights with new fixtures. BREAKFAST: Buffet style with your standard cereals, oatmeal, and fruit, BUT also imaginative and wonderful items like fluffy pancakes served with hot blueberries and egg souffles (including vegetarian options). Also, some fresh basked items like blueberry muffins and cinnamon rolls. The owner was very attentive and kept plenty of coffee ready to serve and all the food dishes replenished. Parking: They have a very small lot with space for 6 or 7 cars, but it is very challenging to get in and out of. What can you expect for a house built in a time before cars though. Fortunately there is a plenty of street parking too and it's 2 blocks from Maine Medical Center so the neighborhood appears to be pretty safe. We will stay here again..and use this as a place for the out-of-town in-laws to stay!

Yelp
I wish I could do half stars, I'd really give this a 4.5 rating. We stayed for a long weekend (Friday-Sunday) and were very pleased with Morrill Mansion. We arrived a few hours before official check in and because we had contacted the innkeeper beforehand, we had arranged an early check in. We were still too early for the early check in so he let us drop our luggage (where it was taken to our room) and then we headed out. This could have been avoided with a rental car, but we chose not to have a car for the weekend, so the innkeeper was very accommodating in that respect. When we finally did check in after wandering around and eating lunch, the house was great. Nice, intimate layout but still privacy from other guests. Homemade baked goods (whoopie pies one day, peanut butter chocolate bars the net), coffee/tea station on each floor, comfortable rooms, and a general cozy atmosphere really warmed me to this B&B. Breakfasts were delicious. A continental style breakfast buffet, but a high step above a typical hotel breakfast. Good variety of fruits, breads, bagels, spreads, yogurt, etc. with some "specialty items" thrown in (pancakes and custard, one day; lobster & egg bake and bread pudding the next). The innkeeper is a FANTASTIC cook. Checkout is at 11am but our flight was at 6pm, so the innkeeper offered to hold our luggage in the kitchen/office until we came back to get it later that afternoon, making things very easy since we were car-less. He was very friendly and chatted with us as we waited for the taxi and was a very organized and social man without being super overbearing and nosy. The only reason I say 4.5 and not 5 stars is the distance/area of town. The maps don't lie, it isn't super far from downtown, but sometimes it felt a little too removed from the main scene. It would have been 5 stars if it was located 10 minutes east. If you aren't renting a car, just be aware of this and bring some comfortable shoes :)

Yelp
I filed a critical review of this facility on another site. The owner replied with a very nasty and dishonest reply, accusing me of being unpleasant, etc. I was nothing but polite with him. He also misstated facts regarding the breakfast room, which was full when we arrived, and said that he made himself scarce because of me. Hogwash! The place was poorly maintained and dingy. While they fixed the problems after we brought them to their attention, he had nothing but excuses as to why he didn't know about them.

Yelp
Rooms and grounds were Very clean and nicely decorated. Owner was very accommodating and friendly. However, The location is not in city center - 20/30 min walk from city center.

Yelp
Not a lot I can add here that others haven't already mentioned. My first U.S. B&B experience. It was recommended (highly) by friends. So glad we took their advice. We wanted a quick getaway from home and Morrill Mansion fit the bill. It was beautiful, elegant, private, affordable, immaculate and definitely not our last visit. The breakfast was unbelievable. Definitely more than I expected from a B&B. It was plentiful, delicious and makes the rates seem even more reasonable then they already seemed to be. The walk into town was further than some might care for, but we love to walk so we never used the car. David, the innkeeper, was the perfect host. Informative, kind and respectful of our privacy. Can't wait until our next visit!

Yelp
My husband and I just returned from our 35th anniversary trip to Maine. We stayed at The Morrill Mansion, and it was perfect. The Inn is beautifully decorated. We stayed on the third floor. Surprisingly, it was very quiet and peaceful even when it was at full capacity. The rooms were immaculate. The breakfasts were wonderful. Our favorite were the blueberry scones. Do yourself a favor and stay here. You will be so glad that you did!

Yelp
Just had an amazing stay here. The room and bathroom were absolutely beautiful. I was leaving early in the morning prior to breakfast so David put together a breakfast plate in my fridge for me. I would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to Portland!

Yelp
This place was so amazing I decided to sign up for Yelp and make it my first review. My fiancee and I stayed here for 3 nights in April. The experience was a good one before we ever showed up however, as David, the owner, was very thorough on the phone when I first initially called. He was very friendly and informative about which room would best fit our needs. The prices here are very fair and the rooms (we stayed in the "Back Cove" room) are VERY comfortable with CLEAN amenities. Every room has access to a little coffee/tea station outside the room, which was very nice because we could relax in bed with a cup of tea and watch movies he provides in a huge MOVIE COLLECTION with about 150 DVD's to choose from. The best part of the collection is the assortment of titles. Something for everyone, for sure. The breakfast every morning is incredible. Whether you wake up at 745 AM or 945 AM, there is a great breakfast waiting for you downstairs that serves as a great way to start your day. We had seconds. It's not really a gourmet breakfast, but there's a quite a few options and enough good, healthy food to kick-start your morning with different options every day. Guests are free to come and go as they please at whatever time, and David does a great job of staying in the background and giving his guests privacy but at the same time being there if he is needed. When we would return back from a day out, our bed was made, any trash was removed, and our personal belongings were never messed with. David is a dedicated B&B owner who knows what a guests wants. He is really good at giving advice about restaurants and attractions in the area. The best part is all his advice turned out to be true. His positive recommendations turned out to be good places and the ones he warned us about turned out to be, well, places I will warn others about now. The location is close enough to everything in Portland that we were never in the car for more than 10 minutes on our way to or from our destination, whether it be Old Port, or anywhere in the city. It's a small city with not a lot of traffic. Free parking spot with the room rental, too. There's a living room area on the middle floor, that has the movie collection, board games, a bookcase full of books, and a glass serving tray with different desserts in it every day. My fiancee and I actually had a lot of fun checking it every time we passed by to see if it had been filled back up and sure enough, it always was. THE WHOOPIE PIES ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD. This is the kind of place you leave and say you will definitely stay here again any time you are in the area again, looking for a warm bed, a hot cup of tea, and a dessert tray that replaces itself. It's the little extras that make it amazing. Big thanks to David for a great experience. Best of luck to you and Moby.

Kadie S.

Yelp
David was so accommodating with our check in time and holding our bags until we got out of our meeting. It made traveling for business a lot less stressful. There's always tea and a baked good in one of the living rooms and a lot of books and movies you can borrow. The room was cozy and the bathroom updated and comfortable. I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Absolutely a wonderful spot - just about 1.3 miles from the tourist area - an easy walk and much quieter without dealing with crowds. The inn itself is beautiful, with a very comfortable decor and terrific food. Off-street parking is a plus and, if you're a compulsive techie, free hotel WiFi. But put down that iPhone and go for a walk - Portland has a lot to offer - good food and drink and lots of friendly locals who always smile and say hello!

Yelp
I stayed at the Mansion midweek for an interview. I don't typically stay at B&B's but this experience may have converted me. Everything was so clean and fresh! They even left a plate of breakfast in my mini-fridge because they knew I would have to leave very early in the morning. Owner is so friendly and helpful, and the inn is super quiet but in a very lively part of town. Loved it, and I'll be back!

Lisa C.

Yelp
My husband, son and I stayed in one of the two suites at the inn over the long weekend and enjoyed our stay completely. As anyone who has traveled with a teenage child knows, having the separate room for our son was such a great solution. There are also two public sitting areas with comfy chairs, coffee, tea and hot chocolate, and an abundant choice of DVDs, books and games if you want to stay in. We're looking forward to our next visit!
