The Morrison-Clark is at least a half hour walk from the main sights on the mall. If that isn’t a problem for you, then the Morrison-Clark is an excellent choice for exploring the capital. ||For a nice big-city hotel, the price is quite reasonable. ||The decor, Asian-inspired, is pleasant. The facility is in good shape and clean. The bed was comfortable, the room ample, with a small desk and plenty of furniture for clothes. We were surprised how quiet the place was for an urban setting. The door staff were nice. ||Not everything was perfect, but not enough was wrong to reduce the score by a star. The water in the shower takes some minutes to get warm and the temperature then fluctuates. We also didn’t get an explanation of amenities that would’ve been helpful. The rooms don’t have coffee-makers, and we didn’t discover until we were on our way out to breakfast that the hotel provides coffee in the lobby for guests. ||The on-site restaurant, where we had breakfast, gets four stars. The food is good, if a touch overpriced for the quantity and quality. The service was cordial. The menu, while not extensive, had enough choices.

The staff of this quiet and quaint hotel make it an over the top stay. The warm fireplaces in the beautifully decorated restaurant are a wonderful addition to the clean and comfortable rooms with large sink areas for getting ready, robes and slippers. The staff go above and beyond to make your stay incredible.

Badly slipping in recent years. I’ve stayed here several times over the past decade, but it’s no longer a pleasant little hotel, and this will definitely be my last stay. The rooms have always been small, but this year they put me in a different wing, and the room is almost unusably small. I’ve seen more spacious prison cells. The wardrobe barely has room to hang two items of clothing, and the room is so small you can practically reach over and lock the door while sitting in bed. The shower head was also installed incorrectly angled to the side, so half the water sprays onto the wall and you have to get creative if you want to bathe. The service is, sadly, the area with the greatest decline. The clerks are gloomy and seem to openly hate their job and anyone who bothers them during a shift, and you won’t get a “hello” or a “thank you” out of anyone who works here. The convention hotels next door are bustling with activity, happy guests, and friendly employees. This place feels like it’s about to go out of business, and the staff knows it.

I have stayed here 8 times. It’s just a nice, easy hotel. Room is always clean, bed is comfortable, the courtyard is very sweet, staff is kind. Big fan. It’s not new or chic, but it’s got character and it consistently exceeds expectation.

An amazing stay! Hotel is like new, staff is outstanding, great position and they take care of everything! Room is little bit too small but cozy! The bathroom is modern and with a lot of space! Quality price is outstanding! Housekeeping and staff were all very sweet! Thank you especially to Maria and all the front desk staff!

Sibling trip, 2 sisters and our brother. Hotel: super clean, historic, beautiful, great location. Food: great breakfast 2 mornings in a row. The bar: excellent lemon drops by Nela! The staff: AMAZING! Front desk- Abdul made sure our rooms were perfect. The maintenance man even loaned our brother his charger when the charging station in his room did not work! Literally everyone from valet to those that helped with our bags was absolutely amazing. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. We will be back and we are staying here!

A nicely decorated hotel, kind of an Asian theme inside of a Victorian house.. in a great part of town. Staff are not exactly Great but they are helpful enough… doormen are Great. There is a pleasant and small dining room for breakfasts. The upgraded rooms are good but no streaming services and no room service. They will try to get you what you ask for..though they don’t carry Coke Zero and have no rye bread at breakfast. A very pleasant outdoor area with a fountain ..If you ou feel like walking it’s 20-25 minutes to the White House. Lots of upscale shopping near by, great top cafes for dinner, and Tattes bakery is fun for any traveler.

5 star review! 5 star all around: Short review: Great service. Great location. Beautiful hotel. EXTREMELY comfortable bed. Great quality. Long review: I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I came for a solo mommy birthday trip to the city to see a concert. Everything from start to finish was fantastic. I arrive close to midnight on a Thursday night. The night clerk was extremely informative and helpful and quick. I arrived at my room exactly at midnight and the room was breathtaking. The chandelier was such a nice touch. I love the fireplace, the curtains, the settee, everything in the room was just lovely, and perfectly placed. The mirror in the bathroom was exquisite. And the shower pressure was hard and strong, and the water HOT just how I like it. “It washed me like it was washing a car.” Loved my showers in that bathroom. The bed. Oh! The bed. Seriously, one of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept on in a hotel. The blackout curtains were AMAZING and I took some serious naps in that room and the sleep was a highlight of my trip. They even allowed a late check out so I could take a nap on my last day. What a gift for me!! The service by each employee made my stay more welcoming. Everyone from the door attendant, desk staff, housekeeping to the bartender were all friendly and helpful. Everyone was so nice. There is no coffee in the rooms, but in the lobby each morning. While I was a bit annoyed, I actually liked going to the lobby each morning to get a cup and see fellow guests. Everyone was friendly and patient while we waited for coffee. While they did not have any flavored creamer, the coffee was delicious. I had a few cups. Worth mentioning: the hotel courtyard. So peaceful, inviting and relaxing. I had a few glasses of wine out there and loved that also. The location is great and there’s so much in walking distance. The National Mall is a short bike ride away. Metro station is close. And if you stay here you HAVE to go to Stan’s DC for drinks and Bozzeli’s pizza on Vermont Street. I went both places twice during my three night stay. Again: magnificent hotel. Thank for the amazing stay for my birthday.

Yelp
This is a beautiful charming hotel with lots of character. From the outside you would never know how beautiful it is inside- the exterior is quite ordinary and an extremely deceptive. You walk into this very tastefully decorated lobby with beautiful lighting, artwork, cozy comfortable seating area overlooking a very green outdoor courtyard garden with rocks and waterfall - very zen atmosphere throughout. Everything was chosen with meticulous care and designed very artistically. Everywhere you look, there's something that catches the eye. We had a day long work meeting here and so spent the entire day in the meeting room on the second floor. The room itself was very elegant with a fireplace and a butterfly architecture wall above. It was also setup very nicely very fancy with white tablecloth covered tables, plenty of water jugs and notepads and pens. We had all the breakfast setup buffet style on the side and it was yummy - French toast, bacon, potatoes, scrambled eggs, pasties, fruit, and several juices, tea and coffee. For lunch they gave us a 3 course menu that we could select one each of. I got the butternut squash soup which was really good - very comforting. For entree I got the salmon which was quite good and for dessert I got the tiramisu which was very decadent. In the evening they turned it into a more casual space for a meet and greet event with a few high tables. They also opened up a connecting room that had the food setup - Asian food this time - spring rolls, orange chicken, chicken satay, fried rice and more. I asked for a take out container and they obliged. Service was friendly and efficient. The adjacent dining room that is their restaurant also looked very cozy and charming. Overall a great experience at this historic inn!!

Yelp
We enjoyed a superb meal in the hotel restaurant. The menu features regional delights - seafood, lamb, and chicken. We had chocolate mousse for dessert. All four meals were delicious and so flavorful. Omar was our top notch server. He offered helpful insights and took care of our every desire. Highly recommend this quiet gem of a restaurant!

Bernardino O.

Yelp
Great food. Every dish was very tasty and did not disappoint. The restaurant is not busy for a Saturday night so you'll be served quickly.

Yelp
I recently stayed here while I was at a conference is a great place to stay. The rooms were clean the hotel is clean. The staff was friendly helpful. I would stay here again next time i come to DC. I also had dinner there one night and was able to eat it out in the court yard area , the food tasted wonderful . Also if your staying here you should check out the History of the Inn , its fascinating !

Arlene L.

Yelp
We absolutely loved our time here and will definitely stay here again when we return to DC. We stayed three nights and every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The bed, pillows, sheets, were so comfortable I didn't want to leave the room! We found the room, bathroom, and everything else to be very clean. For us, the hotel was always very quiet so that was a plus. The Mt. Vernon Square Metro stop is a 5-minute walk away and the Convention Center is a short walk, as well. You can have them store your luggage after you check out if you need to, which is nice. I look forward to coming back and enjoying the restaurant. I definitely recommend this hotel!

Yelp
Morrison-Clark Historic Inn and Restaurant is a restored Victorian-era mansion offering luxurious lodging & an elegant New American restaurant. When we arrived in the dining room, my parents and I felt like we were under dressed. If you want a memorable dining experience, you should consider Morrison-Clark Historic Inn. I liked how the dining room was spacious We enjoyed the exceptional service, delicious meal, and beautifully plated and innovative dishes. This included the Roasted Cauliflower Bisque, Grilled Baby Wheel of Brie, Jumbo Lump Crab Fondue, Arugula Cannoli, Pan Roasted Breast of Free Range Chicken, and Maryland Style Jumbo Crabcakes. The Roasted Cauliflower Bisque consisted of curried cauliflower puree, lobster, fennel, papaya relish, and garnished with microgreens. The Grilled Baby Wheel of Brie was served on a bed of apricot and vanilla preserves and topped with stacked grilled baguette and garnished with microgreens. The Jumbo Lump Crab Fondue consisted of a blend of jumbo lump crab and melted gruyere cheese, garnished with spring onion, and served with grilled pita and petit salad. The Arugula Cannoli consisted of crispy Indian flatbread stuffed with roasted beets, cheese, and spring mix tossed in a light truffle vinaigrette served with a lightly dressed sliced avocado. The Pan Roasted Breast of Free Range Chicken was served over a bed of sugar snap peas in a sweet corn milk with pieces of savory cranberry focaccia monkey bread and topped with a handful of arugula. The Maryland Style Jumbo Crabcakes was served with garlic tossed fingerling potatoes, baby carrots, and fried green tomatoes in a light lobster sauce. I liked how the crab cakes didn't have much filler and weren't spicy.

Yelp
The restaurant at Morrison-Clark Inn is a sleeper hit, don't miss out on it! I was first introduced to this hidden gem at Yelp's Spirited Spooktacular and was so impressed with the friendly staff and their dangerously delicious and decadent chocolate shortbread that I've already been back twice! The restaurant is old-school elegant and the perfect treat your mom out spot if you know what I mean (they do afternoon tea too!). Out of all the things I've tried here my favorites are: - Salt Roasted Salmon with Crab Gnocci - The fish is so tender and fresh and you can't go wrong with gnocci. The portion is very generous and I'm pretty sure there was an entire family of jumbo lump crabs on my plate! - Truffle Fries - Extra skinny and extra crunchy just the way I like it! One basket makes a great sharable appetizer. - Lobster Grilled Cheese with Lobster Bisque - I'm pretty sure I might have shaved a few years from my lifespan due to all the butter in this dish, but it was so delicious I can't be mad about it at all! - All THE dessert - They have a fabulous pastry chef on board here so if you have room in your belly, I highly recommend one, two or three of their dessert items! Overall delicious, hearty and affordable food in an upscale atmosphere. Definitely check it out!

Yelp
There are many things on the menu here that will attempt to seduce you, but the Lobster Grilled Cheese proved to be the seductress of them all. If it has it's way with you as well, a few things to keep in mind. It's rich. Liiiiiike, Scrooge McDuck circa Ducktales swimming in coins, rich. Not only is the lobster plentiful with the cheese hugging every corner between each buttery slice of bread, but the sandwich also comes with soup, fries and/or a salad for $18. Oh and that buttery bread I mentioned. I hope you like butter. Because the bread is more golden than all the Duck Tails coin imaginable. While my visit here was a long time coming, a gathering of coworkers from all over the region provided the perfect occasion to book a holiday lunch here. Ever since my co-worker discovered the restaurant and inn last year, and told me all about its delicious food and charm, I've kept it on my radar. I also vividly remember how impressed I was by the chef when the restaurant participated in a Yelp event in Ivy City last year, and vowed that eventually, I'd be in to dine. Although insanely cliche, the restaurant and inn truly is a hidden gem. To be located in such a high traffic area of the city, and yet feel so tucked away is no easy feat and made the visit feel like a mini-staycation, even tho the visit was just for a short lunch. The dining area itself is beautiful, with a fine dining atmosphere but easily still casual enough to feel refined, but not stuffy. Our waitress was lovely and barely missed a beat. We ordered somewhat simplistically with an array of grilled cheese, bisques and burgers, but it seems as though everyone enjoyed their order. One dish that we all shared that I thought was delicious was the salmon with gnocchi and crab. Since the portions of every dish are pretty generous, this would have required a hearty appetite to tackle alone (especially with the filling gnocchi) but I must note how perfectly cooked the salmon was and how delicate, bright and vibrant the dish was overall. It may have been the unexpected standout for me. I also found the menu price points to be incredibly fair, considering the atmosphere quality and portions. You will definitely get your worth here and leave full and satisfied. So glad I finally had the chance to dine here and look forward to grabbing a drink or bite to eat here again in the future.

Yelp
I got the wrong drink, the ambiance was rushed, my food was either over cooked or ver under cooked, there was over a 2 hour wait, they service charged a 6 year old as an adult, this was not a good restaurant what so ever.

Ajuah H.

Yelp
Come for the beautiful hotel, stay for the racism. If you cozy up to the bar, you can have a bartender tell you about the neighborhood by the Nationals stadium, "which used to be real 'sketchy' and 'stabby', but now it's been all gentrified and there's a lot of great cool bars over there". Obviously, as a discerning, conscious Black person, I will never stay here again. I also work for an organization with 200 employees that has a local affiliate with about 500 staff and a national reach of 1000s - and I will be passing the word about what to expect at the Morrison Clark hotel.

Jonelle B.

Yelp
This place has been added to my list of favorite restaurants!!! It's so chic and wonderfully decorated and their food is not only fresh but very flavorful! I knew they were doing something right when they gave me a plate with things I don't necessarily like and it tasted so good I couldn't stop eating it Arugula "Cannoli" with roasted beets, avocado and truffle vinaigrette. Smoked and crispy pork belly with Belgian waffle, braised mustard greens, candied pineapple and star anise BBQ sauce and Tangerine-Creme Fraiche Cake! They have very spacious rooms for dining which look like you are in a very well kept colonial mansion. Very beautifully decorated with lots of character. I most definitely will be back and I will have to check out the inn portion as well.

Susan L.

Yelp
I came here with 20 or so co-workers for lunch. All I can say is that the entire lunch was amazing. Great staff and great food. If you are looking for a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. We had a variety of appetizers and fries. I had the Salmon & Crab gnocchi and had the chocolate truffle cake dessert. They were all delicious. I would highly recommend all their dishes.

Yelp
I've walked by the Morrison-Clark Inn numerous times when I worked downtown and I thought it was nothing more than a bed and breakfast. Much to my astonishment I was wrong. They have a nice quaint restaurant tucked away in their hotel. Upon arrival I was greeted by the doorman, who was very cheerful and showed me where the restaurant was. I decided to sit at the bar and order a cocktail, while I waited for my friend to arrive. Their Happy Hour was still going, so I decided on getting a drink from the Happy Hour menu. I was a little taken aback, because the bartender (maybe she was filling in for the bartender) didn't know what the happy hours liquors were. Any who I waited a while for my guest to arrive and then we headed up to the restaurant. The restaurant definitely has a fine dining appeal to it with a little bit of an antique ambiance. Our waiter Nely, was quick to greet us and take our drink orders. My guest and I already knew what we wanted. I decided on the Garlic Rubbed Grilled Jumbo Shrimp as an appetizer and she did the Grilled Baby Wheel of Brie. The Garlic shrimp was good. I was a little disappointed to see that it only came with two shrimp, but the truffled wild mushroom Arancini and wild mushrom bisque was definitely a welcomed addition to the dish. I tasted the Brie and it was good, the apricot and vanilla preserves was definitely a nice addition. For entrees I decided on the Ginger Marinated Gulf Shrimp and Grits while my guest did the Carne Asada. It took quite a while for our entrees to come out. I understand it was Restaurant Week, but I would think restaurants would be certainly prepared. Nonetheless when the food finally arrived I was happy with the dish. The Grits weren't soggy; they almost tasted like polenta. Which I sometimes prefer, because I enjoy the coarseness of polenta. the shrimp was good and they gave you a lot more than the appetizer. So, I was extremely pleased. My friend stated that she enjoyed the carne asada. It took a very long time for a our deserts to come out. Almost to the point where we were thinking about just getting them to go, because we were tired of waiting and may have been experiencing the "itis". When they did bring the dessert out my friend got the Key Lime Pime and they brought me the Baked Chocolate dish (which I did not order). I attempted to eat, for fear that it may take an hour to bring out the Apple Strudel I ordered. However, when I pointed out this mistake to our Serve the Apple strudel was brought out expeditously and it was WAY better than the baked chocolate dish. The ice cream served with the apple strudel was a very good combination. Overall my experience was not horrible. I wouldn't mind if service was a tad faster, but nonetheless everyone seemed gracious and the environment was welcoming.

Maria J.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay here in the hotel. Everyone was so friendly and helpful! The service was so welcoming and warm. I would recommend this place if you're visiting DC. It was also pretty close to all major attractions such as the national mall and Smithsonian museum of natural history.

Yelp
Morrison-Clark Restaurant is a total hidden gem! Tucked away on the border of Chinatown and Shaw, this stunning restaurant inside the historic Morrison-Clark hotel is located just blocks away from the Convention Center. First and foremost, the food is OUTSTANDING! I am huge seafood fan and I loved how many options they had! To start my dining partner and I shared the Truffle Parmesan Fries and the Jumbo Lump Crab Fondue. Both were insanely delicious, especially those Truffle Parm Fries!!! For lunch we both ordered the Truffle Salt Roasted Atlantic Salmon which came with a fully loaded plate of Crab Gnocchi, Baby Green Beans, Pecorino Romano. The dish itself was incredibly rich and the portion was HUGE! We were so impressed by the food we decided to go for dessert. It was my birthday so they brought me out a complimentary dessert with a candle which was a super nice touch! We tried the lemon cake (my favorite) the hazelnut tarte and the chocolate truffle cake. All three were insanely delicious and I would consider coming back just for the dessert! All in all, this restaurant was a total five star experience for me and for the prices, you definitely get a bang for your buck. I will definitely be taking out of town guests here when I play "tour guide!"

Yelp
Very cute hotel in a great location. The staff were extremely responsive, kind, and professional regarding requests. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel but the service was not very good. Planned a weekend with my wife. Looked the hotel up on line and thought great looking place. Once we checked in I figured we'd hit their everyday happy hour before we leave for a concert at Capital One Area. Well 35 min later at the bar no drinks, no food and no manager to assist the nice older gentleman at the bar that had no idea about happy hour even after I showed them their own website showing happy hour. No one seemed to care or explain anything until now 45 min later as we were walking out to eat and drink somewhere else. The explanation was they had not had time to update their website. So now fast forward. We get back to the hotel at 1am tired and ready to pass out. Room was great, bed was comfortable. We are trying to sleep but there was a loud water noise above our room off and on all night. Then we are woken up several times throughout the night by a door next to our bed wall that leads out of the hall area to the main lobby. It does not have a slow release and is a heavy door so anytime anyone walks through it is shuts with a lot of force like its being slammed. This is to bad because the hotel has potential but a nicely renovated hotel is nothing without service and a good night of sleep. Ok so an update after checking out we spoke with Denia who was amazing, her customer service and disappointment that we had a bad experience is the level of customer service I expected from this place. She initiated the conversation wrote down our concerns and then offers us complimentary brunch which was not necessary at that point because the fact she cared and took the time was huge. NOW the resturant, amazing. Some of the best food I have had. The brunch was an experience in and of itself. Morrison and Clark has the potential to be one of the best Inn/Resturant's in the area and a great get away if all of their staff would take a page from Denia, fix that dam door lol, the water noise and add atmosphere to the afterthought bar. My initial rating was 2 because of everything and a poor night of sleep but she changed our over all experience. We will give Morrison and Clark one more chance sometime in the near future. Thank You Denia

Andrea H.

Yelp
Mouse and gnats at the dinner table.... need I say more? We were told the gnats were there because our friend had a glass of wine. My caprese salad was old and off... now I know why. The whole restaurant was empty. We chalked it up to a Sunday night, but it had an almost 5 star rating and the pics looked awesome: then the mouse...... We told the server we were leaving and he apologized without another word as I pointed to the corner the mouse had just ran toward.

Melody J.

Yelp
Stayed at the hotel and ate at the restaurant. The service was great with the valet and room service. The restaurant was quiet and quaint and the food was delicious! They are very accommodating if you have food restrictions and we're happy to swap out sides since everything is made to order. I got the grilled bone in loin of Berkshire Hog (pork chop) and my companion got the free range chicken dish. Both of our plates were wiped clean, lol. This is great after work spot (they have a bar which I didn't try) and a wonderful choice for dinner. One of the best meals I've had in a while, everything seasoned to perfection.

Jett P.

Yelp
It seems like they don't want people to patronize this establishment. It's kind of hidden with little to no signage. And I had the feeling I was disrupting them when I showed up for breakfast. I was literally the only person there and it took entirely too long to provide my bland over cooked eggs, potatoes, weak wheat bread and bacon. The OJ was good. And the quaint historic atmosphere was pleasant. Service was mediocre

Brian M.

Yelp
The service was attentive, but the meal was incredibly delayed. While it was restaurant week which is busy, the room was almost empty when I got there, which was a bit on the early side for dinner, like 6 PM. Not sure why it took so long for the food to come out. Tried again the next night, and the delay to be served my mail was beyond ridiculous. I had the pork one night and it was a little tough. I have the salmon and couscous the other night, and that was amazing. Don't know that I have a need to come back here, it's pretty average.

Leah R.

Yelp
EXCELLENT food! AMAZING atmosphere! Service needs some help. Really a phenomenal setting but seems like it may be low staffed or have an unresponsive staff. However the chef has made some amazing creations!

Sheryl S.

Yelp
What a beautiful little space!! The building is lovely from the outside, and even more impressive inside. The staff are super friendly and solicitous - one of them gave us a spontaneous little tour as he guided us to the restaurant. We went as part of Restaurant Week, and were treated to a very nice meal indeed. The lobster coddies (lobster and crab cakes) were wonderful, the lavender scented creme brulee was as rich and delicate as anyone could want. If I had been less hypnotized by the word "lobster" in the entree listing, I'd have skipped the lobster pot pie in favor of one of the other dishes. Even so, it was a wonderful meal, and only $35. The waiters were just as nice as the other hotel staff. I can't wait to go back to this little gem.

Lily C.

Yelp
What a lovely little restaurant. We came here for breakfast before our Segway tour of the Mall and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was fresh and the service was great. It's a pretty room and I would definitely come back again for lunch or dinner. If you're looking for solid food and pretty and historical restaurant, this is perfect.

Ashley S.

Yelp
Really great brunch! Elegant dining room, good service, friendly staff and nice menu selection too.

Evan K.

Yelp
We decided to give this off the beaten path restaurant in a boutique hotel a try for a graduation dinner based on positive reviews. We came away very happy. The room was not overcrowded even though all the tables were filled. We had a nice sized table for six. The room was quiet enough for us to have a comfortable conversation which was important to us. The dining room decor is sparse but comfortable. Interestingly many of the people in the party commented on the comfort of the chairs (just passing it on). Our server, Mary from Ethiopia, was very sweet and friendly. She was helpful in choosing items on the menu. When she found that it was a graduation dinner she made the graduate feel special. She would not let us leave until she took a picture of our party. The best part of all was the food which was well presented and delicious. Dishes we particularly liked include the lobster bisque (best ever), crab cakes, baked Brie, lamb chops, duck stroganoff and Pho style NY strip steak. Btw, we drove from our hotel rather than taking cabs. Parking was $15, cheaper than cabs. All in all a great experience. We were nervous about taking this risk but in the end found it a perfect evening.

Yelp
So I'm walking down 11th Street looking for food, then lord, the sky started pouring cats and dogs. First I stopped by an El Salvadoran place but it wasn't my thing. Then I find myself at Morrison Clark and I'm glad I did. With the rainy weather the crab dip and the burger did sound good and yes indeed it was! My malbec with truffled parmigiano fries hit the spot and the service was attentive shout out to 'Abel'. I love burgers and it's hard to find a good one. I am most definitely coming back for happy hour and to try other dishes

AJ M.

Yelp
We had a very disappointing dinner here. They advertised a special Thanksgiving menu and it sounded nice so we tried it, but it did not live up to the reviews at all! Food ranged from adequate to poor. Appetizers - Butternut squash soup was too thick, too sweet and had been plated too early -- it was lukewarm and had skin over the top when we received it. Entrees - all the entrees were overly sweet- ugh. Turkey was ok, but stuffing and gravy were sweet. Duck was tasty but a bit dry and the sweet potato gratin with blue cheese was cloying with no sign of blue cheese or anything savory. Icky sweet. But the real baffler -- the carne asada short rib - which the server actually confirmed spicy was ok with us -- was sickly sweet. It smelled and tasted of -- not kidding or exaggerating here -- angel food cake. Bizarre. Inedible. Girl with bread basket never came to our table. We saw others get bread but just sat there with empty bread plates. Dessert -Chocolate truffle cake was ok, but had been plated and sitting; sorbet was half melted. Lackluster, but it was chocolate so we tried. Server didn't bother to ask why we were sending back half full (or more) plates - every course. Never saw a manager or anyone other than server and a busser. When we left, couldn't even find someone to get our coats so we took them from rack ourselves (we had gotten claim checks so that is not how it was supposed to work). We understand a holiday may not have the A team... but if you can't offer something half decent, just close already. We were looking forward to a special holiday dinner out and were sorely disappointed. And, we wasted our "special dinner" night in DC on this. :(

David H.

Yelp
We had brunch here today with friends. I advise that you completely and totally starve yourself for a week before going here since they serve you a tremendous amount of incredible food and it's tough to tackle it all in the 2 hours we were there. So here's the skinny... Champagne or mimosas First course of organic yogurt with fresh fruit and almonds Second course of eggs and waffles with "sticky love bacon" (I have no idea either, but it was sticky and I loved it) Third course of lemon chess pie Service was excellent. The chef actually came out at the beginning and gave us our Carolina donuts. None of us had ever had them. They are unmistakably NOT low-fat or low-cal, and they are beautiful in their sugary simplicity. We also had a basket of breads that are unmatched anywhere I've been before. They beat the stuffing out of the bread basket at Sweetwater hands down. So in this basket were tiny sweet potato biscuits, miniture pumpkin spice muffins, and truly southern biscuit biscuits. The price is definitely not cheap but it would be a great place to meet friends you haven't seen in ages and spend hours catching up in a true gem of dining in an historical setting.

Yelp
This was very enjoyable the restaurant was quiet elegant the food was excellent very fairly priced but our server seemed very unsure of herself and quite absent. It was as though she needed more training or wasn't aware you needed to check back and refill people's coffee one time we almost went back to the kitchen to see where she was and then she suddenly appeared. Otherwise it was a very enjoyable experience highly recommended

Yelp
We went here one Saturday evening early (6pm) and were the only ones there so got great service along with the great food (garlic soup with a poached egg, grilled asparagus, salmon on quinoa with a vegetable) and glasses of red wine, followed by decaf coffee and fresh fruit bowl for dessert. It was a perfect hot summer evening supper! The dining room has apparently been refurbished and is quite elegant. The front door is up stairs but there is an accessible entranceway and an elevator to the dining floor level in the old house.

Yelp
Went to Restaurant Week with my coworkers here for lunch. The food is good. I got Polenta & Eggplant with balsamic vinegar and tomatoes, basil, mozz. It definitely had a nice taste to it and was cooked well. The service, on the other hand, was a different story. We waited about an hour for our food! Just to get the appetizers! Which were all salads & 1 soup. My coworkers had meetings to get back to, so they had to leave before the main course. Like I said, the food is good. But its not AMAZING. Not enough to make up for really slow inattentive service, that I might ignore at another place, but this place is expensive!

Yelp
Hosted a company holiday party here! And wow! The food here is top notch. The chef put such a lovely spin on the meals he prepares. The service was professional and the decor was just beautiful.

Yelp
I went to the restaurant at Morrison Clark with my girlfriend for Valentines day. The atmosphere was perfect for Valentines day. It is very small, intimate, and quite. I thought the service was incredible. I really liked our waiter. Since I checked-in with the Yelp app, we were given a free glass of wine. We had the Valentines day prix fixe menu and everything was great, especially the beef medallions. I highly recommend this place for a nice occasion.

Yelp
Finally made it to Morrison-Clark after meeting some of the staff at the Yelp Spooktacular Event. I ate at the bar and the service was excellent. I got the pork chop with the mushroom french toast. I won't say that I thought that dish hit it out of the park. The pork chop was so excellent on its own but the odd sweetness of the mushroom french toast felt incongruous with the rest of the plate. I still enjoyed the dish overall, but would probably try something different next time! However, the bar was AWESOME and I could've stayed there all night talking with all the guests and enjoying white russians.

Yelp
Hidden gem of a restaurant! We got the crab fondue appetizer - delicious! - and that's coming from a Maryland crab snob. I got the free range chicken breast with sweet potato purée, spinach and Lady apple. It was the best sweet potato I've ever had. The chicken was so good. All of the flavors were perfect together. My boyfriend got the duck confit and really enjoyed it. The service was excellent and the ambiance was nice and quiet with some background music - great for conversation with a small group.

Yelp
For casual diners, this restaurant is a little pricey, but you can spend nearly as much going to chain restaurants. But if you want to dress up a little, and go somewhere special, this is the perfect place to go. Very attractive atmosphere, quiet, intimate, and the food is excellent. Treat your special someone and go here for a change!!

Yelp
I came here for a breakfast meeting after a friend recommended it to me. It is absolutely adorable and I can't wait to go back. It really was beautiful--large bay windows, fireplace...it was wonderful. My two colleagues I ate with ordered the biscuits for breakfast and I had the seasonal fruit bowl. The biscuits smelled incredibly good and both ladies said that they were awesome. The fruit bowl was not that great--it is October and the seasonal fruit consisted of mango, pineapple, berries, watermelon and mandarin oranges. Now some of that may be in season, but the mandarin slices were canned. I will go back, but I'm not getting the seasonal fruit bowl again.

Yelp
They did a beautiful job on the renovation and the restaurant was elegant and comfortable. Unfortunately I went for Valentines and they had a special menu. The salad was average in taste and below average in preparation, on one of the salads a giant strawberry was sliced but not separated and just put on the plate. The wasabi crusted ahi tuna was a beautiful piece of tuna but the thick coating and crust of wasabi overpowered the tuna and everything it touched. I scraped it all off so that I could eat the tuna but the lingering flavor was still unpleasant. The side of veggie maki looked and tasted machine made/store bought and the noodles were mushy with the wasabi overpowering them as well. I ate the tuna but left most of the sides. The wait between salad and main dish was extraordinarily long and for desert we were not asked if we wanted tea or coffee. I know it was not the normal menu and the reviews have been great so I don't want to judge the place by one night but if you want to charge a premium for a special occasion you have to step it up and be at least on par with normal service and quality. Not inclined to go back other than for happy hour.

Yelp
I've never had perfectly cooked roasted chicken and vegetables before! The butter lettuce with hearts of palm salad with awesome dressings was terrific. The crab cakes were huge and delicious. Our desert was almond cake with blackberry over pumpkin mouse. Was unbelievable! On top of that the service was good and the jazz playing is great. Five stars ++++!!!

Yelp
We were in town for the weekend and stayed here. The location was fabulous-close to everything. The best thing about the stay was the quality of the hotel. It was immaculately clean! The room was cozy and the bed was amazingly comfortable! The bathroom looked like it was newly remodeled. The towels were plentiful and crisp. We will definitely stay here again!

Yelp
We were the only two diners late on a Sunday night, which we found inexplicable once our food arrived. One of the best meals we've ever had; inventive, but not outlandish, perfectly seasoned and fresh. We started with a Caesar Salad with a light lemon-scented dressing, and the Truffle Parmesan Fries, crispy shoestring potatoes with a hint of truffle, thyme, and rosemary. The Crispy Chicken came with puréed peas, balsamic reduction, and fingerling potatoes; my partner's Wild Mushroom Risotto had pink baby beets for fun. We finished with a Chocolate Truffle Cake covered in diced strawberries in a light caramel cream sauce. Excellent service. A hidden gem.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this restaurant as much as I loved the hotel, but there were some glitches. Like the hotel, it really is a pretty restaurant, but it kind of ended there for me. There was only one other person having breakfast when I walked in. The waitress seated me, and asked if I wanted coffe. I said yes, because she didn't offer me a latte or cappuccino, which I found on the menu. I would have ordered a soy latte, which would have increased the bill, and her tip. I don't eat meat or dairy, so I asked for the omelet, without ham or cheese. It arrived with cheese, and it was 5+ minutes before she returned to check on me. I ate one piece of toast, and a few of the potatoes, as they were getting cold. She was apologetic, but when the 2nd omelet arrived, there were more potatoes, but they were now swimming in oil. I think it would have been nice if they had replaced the piece of toast that I ate, but they did not. A group of 6 adults came in, and the other waiter immediately asked if they'd like a cappuccino. Maybe the restaurant is new with the renovated hotel, but it's not up to par. I've had better breakfasts for half of what I paid here.

Yelp
While we'd previously and happily eaten several times at Morrison Clark Inn, it had been quite a while since our last visit. The establishment seems to have absorbed the building next door, so entering the stately and historic building requires following a strange path through a stark chrome/glass construction. Initial entry and restroom access is either up/down too many stairs for anyone disabled to negotiate, or via an inconvenient elevator. Sadly, we were disappointed and won't return. The website shows Winter menu though we were offered Spring edition (so some items we'd planned to order weren't available). Food was creative and mostly delicious (though some accompaniments weren't interesting). But service was sadly deficient. There were multiple odd fumbles simply being seated and welcomed; attentiveness (e.g., refilling water glasses) varied wildly from crisp to non-existent during the meal. Though the dining room was not full during our visit, servers disappeared for too-long intervals. Clearing plates was done at random and food to be taken was packaged unprofessionally. Wine was overpriced at $14/glass.

Yelp
We are locals who ate at the restaurant for Mother's Day Brunch, 2019. Although the food was good quality and reasonably priced, the service was ABYSMAL. I mean stunningly, ridiculously bad. The staff seemed completely overwhelmed and clueless, like they didn't know what working in a restaurant entailed. We waited about 20 minutes to be shown to our table, although the table was free; it was just sitting there unbussed. I asked to see a drink menu and got it 25 minutes later. We waited over an hour (with a hungry child) for any food to arrive, and it still arrived before the drinks did. Water glasses sat empty during the meal. We weren't the only ones having a bad experience; I overheard others complaining, asking to see the manager, etc. If Morrison-Clark is going to have a restaurant, then they have to do better than this. If they can't do better than this, then they should just offer a self-service breakfast buffet to hotel guests and leave it at that.

Yelp
I had a delicious meal in an elegant space. Delicious beet salad, shrimp and grits. Yum!

Yelp
Beautiful furnishings and atmosphere. Eggs Benedict with crab was so good I had it two days in a row. You need to try this place when in the area.

Yelp
Fantastic dinner! Just ate here for restaurant week and was blown away by the food and ambiance. Must try the strawberry shortcake!

Yelp
A few weeks ago, I visited the Morrison Clark Hotel for a champagne brunch with my wife. The dining room was decorated in a classic victorian style which made me feel a little underdressed in my sweater and jeans. I'll be certain to wear my powdered wig next time. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my wife had the steak, home fries and eggs. My meal was delicious and just the right portion. Her steak was tender and tasty despite being cooked longer than requested. The service was attentive and friendly.
