Mortal Man Hotel

This is a great find. We stayed on Sunday evening. The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff were very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. The pub itself has 3 rooms, log fires, lovely food and wide selection of delicious ale, cider, gin and wine. Would definitely recommend and hope to book again.

We had the most wonderful experience staying here. ||The food was delicious, the staff were lovely, and the room was absolutely perfect. |They went above and beyond for the surprise for my boyfriend, the room was so beautifully decorated and thought-out. Abraham and AJ helped to check us in and they were so hospitable and kind, and Steve was wonderfully enthusiastic and generous with his wine knowledge and expertise. ||All of the staff were amazing and we had such a lovely stay. I’m sure we’ll be back!! Thank you.

Stayed for a weekend in September and upon arrival was welcomed at reception desk with a goody bag for our dog, which was a nice touch. On route to our room on the landing was a book shelf you could help yourself to and also dog blankets and toys to take to your room if your wish. |We ate in the restaurant on the Friday night and was quite busy which was good to see. Food was really good and arrived in about 15 minutes. The homemade ‘proper pie’ minted lamb was a popular choice. Lots of local ales and guest ciders available from the friendly knowledgeable barman.|Continental breakfast was good with a designated table for your room and plenty of choice of cereals/ toast/crumpet/wafflles , to go with the meat and cheese selection.|On night 2. After a long day of walking we decided to eat in our room with a selection of picky bits we got on our visit to Windermere. The staff were happy to give us cutlery and plates and didn’t mind this at all. |Walking routes available from reception as well as other local gifts. |The room was made up nice and didn’t feel like it was a dog walkers hotel. Very clean and views towards Windermere from our room 8 were amazing.|We walked up and over Wansfell to Ambleside which took about an hour an half visiting stock ghyll waterfalls before landing in the pub.||Will 1000% return and recommend this place to anyone wanting either quiet getaway in the lakes. Or somewhere as base for your hiking with your dog.

Booked a table here for my birthday, what a great little find! Food was amazing, one of the best meals I have ever had (Chicken Supreme) really came together very well. Wife's steak was also amazing and too notch peppercorn sauce! The service is exceptional, very attentive staff make you feel very welcome! The view is also amazing overlooking the valley! We will definitely come back whenever we are in the lakes! Great job team, keep up the good work!

Had a lovely stay at the mortal man! Very friendly and welcoming staff, gorgeous hotel in a lovely location at a reasonable price. Our room had a gorgeous view. The place has an old fashioned, family run feel to it with lovely cosy rooms and modern facilities. The pub and food were delicious and had an open fire! The many cute and friendly cats were also a bonus! Highly recommended, will definitely be back for a longer stay next time!

We stayed 2 nights, smaller room but had everything we needed including a comfortable bed. Stunning location with a lovely view from our room. The meals are well worth the money as they are delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful and most accommodating with requests if they can help. The ducks and several cats on the property are a nice country touch. We would be more than happy to stay there again if we are back this way.

Have visited this pub several times over the years and always been good but based on several visits recently whilst staying in the village it’s doing very well since the takeover in 2023. The food we had was excellent with some interesting menu choices and backed up by a decent choice of draft beers too. The service was efficient but friendly and engaging at all times. Prices not cheap but then given the location and the nearby competition it compares well. Enjoying a drink in the garden with the sun shining and spectacular views takes some beating!

Loved our visit here. We arrived in the dark but what a view to wake up to the following morning! Nice clear day and could see for miles. Located in a real beauty spot in the heart of the lakes. Pefect place to relax and unwind or run, climb or cycle. Great location for visiting other areas of the lakes too!

What a lovely restaurant. Food was delicious. Great for kids. Beautiful scenary. We will definitely return here when we go back to the lake district.

Went here for lunch and the garden had a lovely view. I ordered the Ploughmans and beside the fact it was missing the advertised cheddar, it was very tasty. My husband said his fish and chips was very good. Finding it was our challenge as we did not realize how far down the country lane it would be after the last sign we saw. We stopped and asked and we had just not gone far enough, so when you see the last sign just keep on going and you will run in to it.

Though we only had a light lunch comprised of mostly starters and sides, everything we ordered was very well done. The service was warm and friendly, and we were very happy with our decision to visit the Mortal Man for lunch.

Ate in the restaurant a couple of times this week. Food is homemade and fairly good dog friendly and good service
