Best free things to do in Moscow, Russia - SilverKris

"A daily, English-language two-hour walking tour aimed at first-time visitors that departs at 10:45am and is led by knowledgeable local guides. The route covers central highlights — including Red Square, Saint Basil’s Cathedral, the Kremlin, the GUM department store and the Bolshoi Theatre — and includes the changing-of-the-guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier plus a few off-the-beaten-track stops, all while guides share historical stories about each landmark." - Nicola Iseard

Anna was our guide for the daily free English Moscow walking tour. Annas English is well above average and should be understandable by any English speaking individuals. Her knowledge of Moscow as a city is superb and her storytelling is good and keeps you engaged. As a free walking tour, you should definitely attend and then decide for yourself what you think her keep is! All the major sites are covered and makes for a good skeleton if youre deciding where to see in a bit more detail. One small problem I had is that as a younger couple (late 20s) attending the tour, we found it very difficult to walk SLOWER than Anna. I dont know if this was because a lot of people were approaching her to ask questions, but wed often find ourselves end up ahead of the pack and consistently have to turn around to make sure that we were still going in the right direction. I noticed this for at least one other couple and an individual as well. In other tours I have attended, the guide often walks rather briskly to the next stop, then takes the time to then pause and talk, while allowing the patrons to rest and listen. My personal suggestions for improvement: 1. Get someone to hold your umbrella if youre out of hands so you dont have to fumble during illustrations 2. Walk at a slightly brisker pace if your group isnt consisted of people who are struggling to keep up 3. Add in one more stop if you end up at places slightly faster because of walking a bit quicker (our tour was 2 hours and 10 minutes in total despite a 15 minute rest stop for toilet, the slow-ish walking pace and a group of approximately 40). Keep at it, youre doing a great job Anna!

I really enjoyed the Moscow metro tour , it was funny, educational, historical, and at times dark - I really enjoyed their honest stories about complicated Russian history!
