This is so beautiful and masterpiece of mughal architecture but unfortunately this most loss its beauty due to encroachment. And extra construction in the lawn of this mosque. I love this mosque wall fresco even if we touch the wall fresco we can feel each design each curve. Now a days mosque condition is so bad but archeological department has started restoration work that is continue. I recommend to everyone please visit this mosque and enjoy calmness of this mosque.

1975 Maryam Zamani Mosque also known as Begum Shahi Masjid is located on eastern side of the Lahore Fort. Maryam Zamani Begum was mother of Mughal Emperor Noor-ud-din Jahangir.  This mosque is one of the earliest mosques of Mughal era, constructed under the orders and royal patronage of Emperor Jahangir from 1611-1614 AD.  The mosque is simple and graceful massive structure, richly decorated with fresco paintings in geometrical, floral and tendril designs. The main prayer chamber with its five arched openings, the central one as usual large framed and provided with a half dome, opened into a courtyard with an ablution tank in its center. The architectural plan and its decorative details especially its fresco paintings and calligraphy akes this mosque one of the more eminent Mughal monument.

Begum Shahi Mosque, officially The Mosque of Mariyam Zamani Begum, is an early 17th-century mosque situated in the Walled City of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The mosque was built between 1611 and 1614 during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir in honor of his mother. It is one of Lahore's earliest surviving examples of a Mughal-era mosque and influenced the construction of the larger Wazir Khan Mosque a few decades later. The mosque has been encroached upon by several shops, and views of the mosque from the Akbari Gate of the Lahore Fort have been obstructed by illegally constructed tire shops. In July 2016, the Walled City of Lahore Authority announced that the shops would be removed, and the mosque would also be conserved and restored.BackgroundThe mosque was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir in honor of his mother, Begum Mariyam Zamani, who was also known as 'Maharani Jodha Bai'. Mariyam Zamani was also a wife of the Mughal Emperor, Akbar.LocationThe mosque is located inside the old Masti Gate in the Walled City of Lahore.HistoryConstruction began in 1611 and lasted until 1614. The Mosque of Mariyam Zamani was temporarily turned into a gunpowder factory by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, for which it was then known as Barudkhana Wali Masjid ("Gunpowder Mosque"). In 1850 the mosque was returned to the Muslims of Lahore who was able to contribute to its renovation.

Marriam Zamani was the Muslim name of Jodha Bai (the consort of Emperor Akbar). Though she didn't convert to Muslim but still she had a Muslim name (Marriam Zamani) and this lovely mosque was built on her name.

Rating as 5/5 due to the mosque but authorities needs to work on the restoration of this dying beauty. It is a comparatively small structure, measuring just 50 meters east-west and 50 meters north-south. Often called Begum Shahi Masjid, the mosque stands just opposite the Masjidi Gate of the Lahore fort.

One of the oldest Mosques of Lahore but unfortunately, in a pathetic condition. It has two names 1)Maryam Zamani Mosque 2)Begum Shahi Mosque. Initially it was built by Mughal king for all sects of Islam but after few centuries, Shiites, Salafists & Ahmadi were banned by administration of Mosque & only Hanfi Sunni were allowed to perform prayers. This nonsense was quite rare & still, such narrow mindset is rare in Pakistan. Anyway, Ranjit Singh changed this mosque into powder gun factory & when British came, Mosque was handed over to Sunni Muslims. Still today, Mosque is functional. It's hard to locate due to Encroachments.

Maryam Zamani Mosque: The Hidden Gem of Lahore Sitting under a marvellous dome like this, in complete silence, one is momentarily separated from the perpetual worries and hectic pace of daily life. There is a sense of peace here that is not found anywhere else in the city. However, most parts of this historic mosque are in a terrible condition: they are crumbling and fading away, or worse, being painted over. The diminishing reality of these structures is heartbreaking, but it makes you realize the role which power, funding, and priorities can play. The place in question is Maryam Zamani Mosque, in Old Lahore. It is one of the oldest and most significant Mughal monuments in the subcontinent. But it is not as well known as the other Mughal buildings and is easily overlooked since it is surrounded by a dense bazaar. Although it has three entrances, you could very easily pass by all of them, without realizing the gem hidden within those walls.
