I think this hotel's model is interesting, seems a great addition to the city, and looks to be very successful. Some thoughts in bullets below.
Awesome:
- Cheap! I stayed for 5 nights at an average of under 100 euro a night (conference rate.)
- Brand new, opened this year. Decor is great. I love the great big lobby area with a (digital) fireplace, big couches, carpets... you feel comfortable.
- Service staff have been very nice.
- Location is great. 10 min walk to the train station, SQUARE meeting center, the Grand Place, etc.
Beware though: The "motel" concept means that (while it's new and pretty) it's low-service, no frills. This means...
- Bring your own conditioner, body lotion, etc. (there was a combo shampoo/body wash)
- No room service; no real restaurant - only light buffet breakfast and snack/coffee/drinks service downstairs.
- No coffee or tea or water or minibar in the room -- but who uses the minibar?
- No staff (besides maids) come up to the rooms -- so no valet or bellboys, no delivery of anything you need.
- No concierge
- Actually worst of all and something they can easily fix: It took me a day and a half to get ahold of an iron and ironing board and I felt pressured to give it back ASAP. If they want to succeed with business travelers, hopefully they order some more ASAP so everyone can have one... but in the meantime just make sure you have at least one iron-free outfit!
So, for this particular trip, where I didn't have late nights and wasn't worried about room service, this was a great option. I would recommend it -- with the above qualification of expectations!
