As a first time visitor to Dancing in the Dark and solo fifty-something American, I didn’t feel out of place at all. Many friendly ladies and gents to dance with. I do recommend music earplugs - measured avg 95db - and minimal attire, as it gets very hot (I think there is AC above the bar? But it's pretty anemic).

Nice converted working men’s club, just like going back in time. You don’t need hundreds of people in the main room to have a great atmosphere

Apart from the miserable rude older lady who manages the queue and works on the bar, this is one of the best comedy venues in the UK. I look forward to going to things like Knock 2 Bag/A Night With The Stars here a few times a year. It’s worth the trip up from Brighton.

I’ve been hearing about this place for nights on a decade and finally got here to sample it. A renovated old military members bar it has the distinct feel of a classic working men’s club so you rapidly see how it became popular in a hipster area. Service at the bar was fine. We went for comedy and had to buy off an app which proved a real pain. At over £16 a ticket we were confident the acts would be decent enough. Sadly, this proved a bit too optimistic. Not being funny (much like the comedians) but you simply can’t charge prices like those for amateur comedy. It was a stretch to call it comedy at all. Was more like an amateur theatre group who forgot the punchlines. We felt really awkward sat there having to force smiles for these appalling acts. It was two hour’s we’ll never get back and at no point could you come close to a laugh. We’ve seen plenty of comedy in our time but never something as abject as this. It’s actually scandalous to charge so much for such abysmal acts and means I can’t imagine trusting paying for any acts this venue again. Management need to be more discerning with regard to the acts they put on given the prices they are charging.

I just saw Queen Priyanka perform on January 11, and I absolutely loved the concert! All the performers she brought out were fantastic, especially our newly crowned winner of Canada's Drag Race, The Virgo Queen! The atmosphere was amazing. The venue is quite small and the show was sold out, so it got pretty hot—definitely don’t bring a jacket like I did or you’ll end up carrying it around for a few hours. I was in the fifth row, and although there were some tall people in front of me, I could see most of the performances. However, I would be concerned about arriving late, as you might not have a good view. It's worth noting that the entrance for the artists is shared with everyone, which makes it a little challenging for them to get on stage. Additionally, the venue is not very wheelchair accessible, but the staff did arrange a small space for disabled patrons near the stage, which I thought was kind and thoughtful.

I went for a gig which was very good, no issues really with the venue it could just do with some updating. It was more of a social club than a venue but I still had a great night. Also, not the easiest to get to if you are travelling from afar. Although that might be because of tube station closures I experienced.

Great little low-key social club venue. Saw Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn there in October for one of the best nights of my life. Great PA system. Great atmosphere. Very affordable tickets.

That most intriguing of British phenomena - the sort of place you refer to as a 'bit of an institution'. I saw the excellent Paul Foot here a couple of years ago and it was one the most peerless nights of comedy I've ever seen. Old school venue with a good track record for great acts and music.
