We just finished our first stay at Mother Nature's Inn and absolutely loved it. It was perfect for what we were looking for and exactly what we expected. After a full day of skiing, it was great to only have a short 15-minute drive back to Tahoe City and be able to sit out and watch the sunset on the enclosed hallway outside of the rooms which had chairs and a little table to sit at. The bed was super comfortable and the rooms were nice and large with lots of storage space. Also, just like they said, you don't need to drive once you're there. Everything in the town is super close and very walkable. And the treats & snacks they provided in the room were very appreciated as well. We will definitely stay here again!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at MNI. We had room 10 which is on the first floor at the end of the corridor & as such was very quiet. Although the walls are quite thin all guests were respectful of each other & there was no loud noise after 10pm.|The location is brilliant, just across the road from the lake & not overly touristy. There are some nice places to eat all in walking distance.|This isn't a fancy, glitzy hotel so don't expect that, what you get is a clean, comfortable motel type room.

Mother Nature's Inn is perfectly described in marketing literature as a small and rustic boutique mom and pop-operated lodge. We love it, and it's the only place we ever stay in Tahoe City. It's like being handed the keys to a friend's cabin in which all the furniture and decorative items have the appearance of being hand-made. ||We just returned home in Sacramento this afternoon from a weekend in Tahoe City to celebrate my new fiancée's birthday. Once again, Mother Nature's Inn was our home base while in town, allowing us to forget about a need to drive everywhere. Once in Tahoe City, someone new to Mother Nature's Inn will quickly come to understand what a perfect location they've chosen for lodging, at what could be called Ground Zero of Tahoe City's dining and shopping attractions. ||On this trip we sailed with Tahoe Sailing Charters (just across the street), enjoyed a birthday dinner at one of Tahoe City's premier restaurants (across the street), shopped at a favorite jewelry store (just a few minutes' walk west of the lodge) and enjoyed several outstanding breakfast meals at another favorite restaurant located just beyond the entrance to the lodge's parking lot.||Can't wait for our next getaway to Tahoe City...

*Updated Review (12/18/2024)* I was contacted by the co-owner, who expressed sincere regret about my experience and explained that it was due to a misunderstanding and miscommunication. He also said he would address what happened, and see that measures are taken to prevent similar situations in the future. The co-owner assured me they would reach out to Booking.com to facilitate my refund. I updated my review from 1 star because of this act of kindness but cannot deny my experience, so I leave it at 3 stars. Previous review posted on 11/26/2024: I don’t typically write reviews, but my experience here was so terrible that I feel obligated to warn others. My family of three, plus our dogs, were staying in a nearby cabin for my daughter’s birthday. When a winter storm hit, I decided to extend our stay by one night to avoid driving back to San Francisco in dangerous conditions. Unfortunately, our cabin was already booked for the next night, so I scrambled to find a pet-friendly hotel nearby. I found this place online, where it was advertised as “pet-friendly,” and booked a room immediately. I called right after to request an early check-in, as we didn’t want to drive around in the storm with all our belongings. The woman who answered was rude, unhelpful, and completely unprofessional. Instead of checking on my request, she told me to call back later. Isn’t it their job to inform guests when the room is ready? I then found out the room I had booked wasn’t actually pet-friendly. Desperate to secure a room, I was willing to go into a much smaller room with less beds and asked to transfer my booking to a, pet-friendly room. She said she couldn’t do it in their system and instructed me to cancel my original booking and make a new reservation. When I canceled the booking online, I was slapped with a cancellation fee because I canceled on the same day. Their policy is to cancel at least five days in advance. That’s fine in theory, but how can you cancel five days in advance when you booked the room the same day? The reservation didn’t even exist five days ago—what kind of logic is that? I called back to explain the situation, but the two women I spoke with were completely unhelpful. When I asked to speak with the owners (who they admitted were already in communication with them), they refused and said I “might” get a call back in a couple of days. Why the delay if the owners were already involved? On top of that, the woman told me I couldn’t cancel my original reservation until I booked the new one and gave me no guarantee that they would waive the cancellation fee. She even said, “I assumed you knew that.” Why would I know that? I don’t go to hotels; I book through Airbnb when I travel. Their lack of communication, terrible service, and blatant disregard for their customers is disgraceful. They took advantage of a family during the holidays, in a winter storm, and refused to make things right. SHAME ON YOU. I hope the owners read this and reevaluate their policies—and the people they hire to manage their business. Do better.

Definitely one of the hidden gems of the Tahoe area. my partner and I loved the access near the lake, the food nearby (vegan options a plus), and the coms via email made the whole thing smooth. High up in my revisit list :) two thumbs up!! - av

I stayed here the weekend before Fourth of July for the Off-Road Triathlon with my boyfriend and dad. This place is a very homely feel. If you’re looking for something quaint that’s close to all shops and the beach, this is for you. I highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for a place to stay that’s centrally located. The staff was very attentive and asked if I needed anything throughout my stay via email. I’m assuming this is family/locally owned which made me want to stay here more.

Perfect location and cabin like decor + the price can't be beat! They accept dogs too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Inn. Easy check-in, great amenities, clean, in the heart of Tahoe City. Rosie's Restaurant just steps away with great breakfasts and lunches. The lake is across the street, with incredible views and in the summer you would have access to the beach. We walked along the cleared, lakeshore's boardwalk with the new snow guiding our way. Everything you need within walking distance: grocery, pharmacy, coffee shops, ski and kayak rentals, bagels, restaurants, and retail therapy. We can't wait to go back in the summer with our dog!

Yelp
It's cozy and clean, it's right across from the lake, many restaurants and places you can walk to. The price is reasonable, the staff and owners are nice. Great place to stay!

Yelp
8/30/24. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Booked here last minute and was not planned. This place is great. Right in the middle of town. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The room was really nice and clean. Great spot right in the middle of town. Perfect location.

Yelp
Very cozy with a perfect location to walk around with my dog & also the nearby Palisades ski resort, good price in comparison to other hotels in the area, & the heating system works great! Love that this place is so pet friendly, right behind is it a huge open space that my dog loved to walk around in. Can only give 4 stars because the walls are pretty thin so you can hear the upstairs & next door neighbors & the bed was not super comfortable.

Yelp
Make sure you are booking through the right source. We booked but they never got our reservation and then when we showed up nobody was there to help us and we couldn't get them on the phone. Please double check you are booking through the place

Yelp
Location! Adorable cabin decor! Clean, great amenities! Walking distance to everything you need: lake across the street as well as rentals for skiis and kayaks, pet friendly, grocery, pharmacy, restaurants, bagels, coffee, retail therapy. Comfy and cozy and the price is reasonable in comparison to other hotels considering the best location ever. We saw cross country skiiers and dogs walking along the groomed path just out the back door. We walked along the groomed, lakeshore, boardwalk bordered by fresh snow just across the street from the inn. Our kids enjoyed the skiing at Alpine Meadows while we enjoyed the picture perfect town. Can't wait to go back in summer with our pup!

Yelp
First trip to Tahoe and Frank and Sarah did not disappoint!!! Such a wonderfully cozy place to stay in the most PRIME location!!! Beautifully decorated rooms with everything you could need! I wish I could give more than 5 stars!

Yelp
I'm SO confused how this place has such good reviews?? For the price you're paying, this place is a dump. My bedsheets had old blood splatter stains, the nightstands were sticky, and ice bucket was scummy. Just these basic things were so dirty, I was too afraid to investigate further into the appliances or corners. The walls are PAPER thin. Couldn't sleep because the ceiling kept making sudden loud cracking noises and you could hear everything in front of your door like there isn't even a door there. You can also hear the neighboring rooms so clearly, making the stay extremely loud and stressful. And the outlet by the bed didn't work so it was very inconvenient to charge a phone. I stay at many hotels and airbnbs, but have never experienced anything this bad before. There is no front desk, so if you need help, you need to call a number. And the number has very limited hours! Even when I called the number to ask for help, they said they would come fix the shower and problems, but DID'T. I went my whole trip with NO WATER in my shower. and dirty sheets! the location is convenient but that's the only good thing I have to say about it.

Yelp
Loved our stay at Mother Nature's Inn, I wish we could have stayed longer! My husband and I were so comfy, the rooms are very clean with great water pressure and soft beds. The Inn is in close proximity to the lake (across the street!) and great food, drink and walking trails. Lots of cozy touches, like books and boardgames to play available in common areas, in room coffee and hot cocoa. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely be back again with friends and family to enjoy a lakeside getaway. Thank you, Frank and Sarah for your world class hospitality!

Yelp
I just checked in and omg..... I adore this little treasure Affordable and quality . I love the little details and thoughtfulness. From the decor to the popcorn and hot chocolate , fridge, coffeemaker, microwave in hallway, cozy extra blanket, litte guestbook, laundry basket and litte seating area in hallway. The owners put so much love into it. Def reminds me of a low-key chill mountain lodge. So unique and beats all of those other lame generic places that are cold and boring. Across from the lake and right in the center of shopping and restaurants This is a prime location!!! Super clean room. Being a dog lover, this is dog friendly!!! I will be bringing my furbaby next time. Thank you , for making this a coz y retreat

Yelp
Mother Nature's Inn is a true gem in Tahoe City! Since we "discovered" this place 2 years ago, we've never stayed anywhere else. It's a charming rustic 8-bedroom Inn/lodge located right next to the famous "Rosie's Café" in Tahoe City. It's conveniently close to Squaw Valley Resort, restaurants, groceries, and pretty much everything you'll need. It's also just across from the beautiful Tahoe Lake where you (and your 4-legged friend) can enjoy a long walk by the lake at sunset!!! The rooms are comfy and clean, and decorated with a charming rustic theme. Four of the eight rooms are pet friendly, which are provided with pet blankets, dishes and yummy treats! My pooch is spoiled! I think the most important thing to note is how wonderful the owners are! Frank and Sarah are the nicest and most accommodating hosts! Mother Natures' Inn is a keeper!

Yelp
We would go to this lovely hotel every summer for the last 10 years. It was like a home away from home. Just looking at their website now, the prices have nearly tripled since we were there in 2021. I cannot see a vast difference in the rooms as they look the same so not quite sure where that price hike comes in. The snacks? The "organic" linens? Very disappointed this once quaint, cozy gem has turned into some elite bougie get away.

Yelp
I am literally DISGUSTED with the GREED of the new owners. WTF??? My fiancé and I started going there in 2012 and pretty much every summer for her birthday at the end of July we spent 2-3 nights there. We NEVER paid more than $149 a night AND we were never charged a pet fee. The rooms are very small and basic and the prices were in line with what you got. The last time we were there a few years ago new owners had pretty much just taken over and things were still basically the same. We went to book 3 nights for this coming July and now all of a sudden the prices are averaging $325 a night AND they are charging a pet fee??? WTF??? Are you guys trying to appeal to the f...ing LA in crowd?? This is ridiculous!!! What unbridled freaking agreed. We won't be staying there again.

Yelp
Oh my , what a gem this place is!! Great value for the money ! This place is directly across from the lake and on a golf course! Very convenient location to shops and restaurants. My family and I were so excited to open our room and find the most adorable touches everywhere we looked, all the way down to the personalized greeting. It is completely themed out from the minute you arrive. You feel like your in a cabin in the woods, not your typical hotel stay at all! Our beds were very plush and comfy, from the twin sizes up to the king size beds. The owner and his wife were not only very friendly they were extremely attentive to my elderly mom , they even came to her room to help her with her coffee pot and TV lol . I will absolutely be coming back our next trip to Tahoe. I very much recommend this amazing Inn!

Yelp
The best hotel in Tahoe! We had a great stay thank you so much and my dog loved it too

Yelp
Very easy accessibility into a very cozy and well-maintained room. I enjoyed my stay very much although it was a short time. The location was also very convenient to Squaw Valley And a lot of great eateries. Thank you Frank and Sarah. I will be back to visit again soon!

Yelp
Woodsey themed (black bears, elk, and wolves adorning the rooms oh my!) and adorable motel. Small but has all the required amenities covered. Awesome location in the middle of downtown and Lake Tahoe- the lake, marinas, and swimming access are literally across the street. The motel is a mom and pop shop, everything was spotlessly clean, and we loved the personalized greeting just inside the room's front door. Coffee maker, coffee, and small fridge with tiny freezer (a wine bottle will not fit in there) compartment inside. A cute, cozy, and convenient place to stay in the heart of ski and casino (not far from Reno) country. I don't really see any cons to this place, the prices are great -but- the bathroom needed a little TLC in one spot (floor is near the end of its service life). Service was excellent too. They don't do maid service until after you checkout, but they were good about checking to see if we needed garbage taken out, fresh towels, or bath or facial tissue, etc.

Yelp
We have stayed here many times but the last wasn't a good experience. I wanted to shout out to the new owner Frank for making it worth our while to stay again. It's a great location in Tahoe City with walking distance to restaurants even during these crazy times with COVID . You can walk across the street with the fresh air of Lake Tahoe. It's definitely one of my favorites! Until next time :)

Yelp
I love Mother Nature's Inn! This is the best secret spot to stay in Tahoe. I am picky with hotels and always come back here. Clean, comfy beds, and walking distance to restaurants when you are tired from skiing or swimming all day. Almost got stuck in Tahoe because of a huge blizzard, and although they were intending to close the inn for a few nights, they were willing to keep the place open for us if we couldn't get out of town so we'd have a place to stay. Just the best!

Raleigh M.

Yelp
Love this inn! large comfortable room with lots of comfy chairs, big windows and beautiful glassed in sun porch outside each room overlooking snowy mountain meadow. Perfect place to come back to relax after your day out. All the amenities and some surprises like free popcorn and Keurig coffee. Staff easily reachable by text and very helpful. (BTW If you are looking for a great place to cross country ski, check out TahoeXC center on the outskirts of Tahoe City, lovely groomed trails, low key nonprofit, trail pass is free to those of us 70+ and under 20.).

Ryan M.

Yelp
If you need a place to stay that's comfortable and dog friendly, you have found it. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Tahoe city. The owner are awesome and welcoming and the beds are very comfortable. Can't wait to come back to stay a while.

Kristen S.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to stay in Tahoe! The location is perfect, less than 5 minute walk to the beach and it is situated right in the heart of Tahoe city surrounded by plenty of shops, restaurants, and lots of things to do, and just steps away from everything. The owners are very friendly and they are always just a call or text away if we needed anything. The rooms are spacious and clean with a cozy cabin vibe, and the beds are very comfortable and plush, I highly recommend this hotel!

Mary M.

Yelp
This place is amazing for location, price, cleanliness and comfort. I will stay there every time I have the chance to visit Tahoe! Frank and Sarah mean it when they say they'll do anything to make visitors feel welcome. They even had a sign in the room with our names to personalize the welcome. I wish I could have stayed longer!
