I really liked this hostel and the atmosphere. I was here during the balloon fiesta so it was pretty busy. Met a lot of great people. They provide milk, eggs, bread and breakfast for you to use, which is great. The staff are very kind and helpful as well. The only remark is that the house is quite old and the photos make it look nicer than it is.

I didn't stay long but it was pleasant. The rooms are large for their value with a small kitchen area. The patio is a beautiful place to watch people walk and take in the sounds of traffic passing by. My only complaint, the pull cords for the fans are just short enough for me to reach on my tip toes. Don't be taken by bedbug and spider rumors, this place is insect free.

I had a wonderful stay. I was able to easily walk to and from my event at the convention center. There were plenty of restaurants near by. And Arts District is up the street. The other way are more restaurants and night life. The staff at the hostel were super friendly. They asked if my room was a good temperature. One night they made sure to tell me it was going to be colder that night and did I want an extra blanket. I would happily stay there again.

Thoroughly enjoyed the stay here and would love to stay again! It has an inviting nature about it, and we hung out with fellow travelers with ease. The house is old and has a lot of character. The location was great and the staff was extremely friendly. The room was clean, temperature, and spacious.

Me husband and I enjoyed our 1 night stay here. The staff were friendly and professional. The house is old and imperfect, but chat with the owner a little and you'll learn that he's only had it for about a year, and improvements are ongoing. Besides, the history and imperfections add to the hostel experience. We'd definitely stay here again.

I was booked a private room and was put next to a couple who apparently live there. They had a dog they liked to yell at constantly and loudly . apparently they have zero self awareness, yelling at each other until 1am while I was unsuccessfully trying to sleep next door. The room was dirty and a little stinky . The place was loud. I don’t know what I expected for $55/night, but it wasn’t worth it . Maybe if you’re young , broke and travelling this place would be great for you . But if your looking for a clean spot to get a quiet nights sleep I wouldn’t recommend . Simon at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. That’s about all the positive I’ve got.

One of my favorite things about staying in hostels is the variety of the physical building you end up in. They are all so unique and different. My second favorite thing is meeting the other staff, residents, and travelers. The Mother Rode Hostel was a terrific location right in between Downtown Albuquerque and Old Town. We were so happy with our private room and it's private entrance, second bedroom, cute little bath and awesome kitchenette. We totally lucked out!! The staff were super friendly as well and we even spoke with the owner (who doubles as a real estate agent) at looking at property in this area. We are in the market for a vacation home or two and really fell in love with this part of New Mexico! I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area. Be sure to check out the Farmer's Market across the street!

Great little hostel in Albuquerque along the famous Route 66, and worth it. Interesting conversations both at dinner and breakfast. I stayed in the men’s dorm and slept quite well with lots of fresh air. My only complaint are the squeaky springs on the bunk beds. With this said, I enjoyed the best coffee in a hostel since Europe. Thanks!!

Yelp
I love staying at hostels because you meet the most interesting people and get that comfy home vibe that you can't get by staying at a manufacture hotel chain. While staying here at the hostel I meet my "twin", this girl who I was sharing a bunk bed with had the same name as me and also the same birthday! We were born 5 years apart and in different countries but with a different last name! Crazy! I love it!! My trip out west took me to ABQ and while searching for hostels this came up and decided to book with them during the balloon fiesta week. Located on historic route 66 this hostel sits between downtown and old town making it a great location close to everything. The famous Dog House restaurant is within walking distance of the hostel and a bus line runs by it as well if you are without a car. They do have parking but it's first come first serve, it is located behind the hostel. Enter through the ally and you will pass the first 2 apartments and then the hostel parking will be visible, only like 6 cars are able to fit but street parking is also available. Upon arrival the staff checked me in and even though they were super busy with visitors trying to book over the phone due to balloon fiesta the staff still welcomed me with friendliness and a big smile. I stayed a total of 2 nights, one night on my way to Arizona and another night on my drive back home to Texas. Both of these times I received nothing but outstanding customer service from all the staff here at mother road. To all the staff, Cheryl and Angel especially, you guys have been beyond amazing and may yall be blessed with many more years of health so that yall can continue to greet visitors with a loving smile. The staff is truly an example of what outstanding hospitality is all about, they went above and beyond anything I was expecting. I felt safe the whole time there, the girls in my room were chill and the people I meet while having breakfast there one morning invited me to ride with them to balloon fiesta! Always kind and friendly folks everywhere doing random acts of kindness! Love it! The building itself is really old but full of character. I overheard one of the staff talking to a guest and mentioned that at one point the hostel was a brothel! (dont quote me on it because I did not ask I just overheard). They have a lot of rooms and small nooks that it is really fascinating to see how they have adopted the house to meet the current needs of its habitants. You cannot take a single step inside without making the floor creek and eek with every step. They only allow smoking outside and they have continental breakfast available (there is a farmers market across the street from them so they get eggs from them every morning!). There are plenty of bathrooms available so if the one in your room is occupied just walk down the hallway and you will find one available. They have space heaters but if you are cold they do have extra blankets free of charge. The bunk beds are all different and I prefer bottom bunk because a big curvy girl like me does not feel safe on the top bunk. Bunk beds are first come first serve so get here early for your preference on bunk beds. Overall I really loved my stay here at mother road hostel and I can't wait to go back and stay with them again due to how much I enjoyed my stay with them.

Yelp
This place is lovely and the folks running it as well as the owner, Rachael, are so nice. Cosy spaces, books everywhere, and a nice park right next door. This is a great introduction to Albuquerque. It's a very old house that's been converted, so be ready for stairs. I did ask, and they intend to have a wheelchair accessible room in a year or so. It's a big project in a place like this. If you're traveling in the area, this is a great alternative to a hotel. The only reason there aren't many reviews for this wonderful place is that it used to operate under a different name.

Yelp
I came to town for my fiancée's birthday and for the balloon fiesta. We were happily greeted by Cheryl who gave us some great restaurant recommendations for a bite to eat. The rooms were quite clean and the whole staff was quite amicable. The kitchen area was fully stocked and there was always a fresh pot of coffee brewing!! There is an excellent porch with seating and a small smoking area for those who may need it. WiFi was provided as well as multiple door lock codes. We did not eat the breakfast but they provide a complimentary breakfast every morning with a wide variety. An all around great place run by even greater people. See you next time we are in town! Also, it is right down the road from Dog House--from Breaking Bad--and a fifteen minute drive from four other Breaking Bad locations, including Jesse Pinkman's house.

Yelp
I stayed here last year (October 2019) for one night during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Stayed in a one bed private room (because that's all they had available). Great personable staff. Was given a tour of the hostel by the front receptionist, who also provided the combinations to all the doors (which is great for safety so random people can't come strolling in). Lots of steep stairs on the inside to get upstairs. The worker had mentioned at that time they were going through renovations. It is an older building, but that goes with the theme of the hostel, as it is cozy, like a family home. The only complaint I have is that the private room was very small, and that the shared bathroom with the toilet, sink, and shower was also very small. Overall, wasn't the worst place I ever stayed, wasn't the best either.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Great quirky old house. Nice rooms. Friendly staff. Great location. I loved it here! Lots of books to read too.

Yelp
stayed for a night here and it was one of the best lodging experiences i've ever had! stayed in a six bed women's dorm that was very cute and clean. the place had really a really homey feel and it felt like staying at a friend or relatives home for the night. be sure to get dropped off in the back and hang out with cheryl at the front desk
