Mount Ainslie Lookout is one of those places that explains Canberra in a single view.
From the top, the city unfolds with perfect symmetry. Anzac Parade runs straight down the centre, cutting through a sea of green before meeting Lake Burley Griffin, with Parliament House sitting proudly on the axis beyond. In the distance, the Brindabella ranges fade into soft layers, especially stunning at golden hour.
The atmosphere up top is calm and unhurried — families, couples, and photographers quietly taking it all in. It’s busy without feeling chaotic, and the view naturally makes you slow down.
A few practical tips: parking is rare, and you don’t want to park at the foot of the hill and walk up, so get here early, especially on a clear, cloudless day. Also, bring a jacket — it gets cold up here even in summer.
Iconic, peaceful, and absolutely worth the effort. A must-see Canberra view.
