A very challenging but incredibly rewarding trek — steep, muddy, and physically demanding, yet absolutely worth the effort. The security presence is excellent (including military patrols), which makes the experience feel very safe even in this remote environment.
If you’re lucky, you may even encounter mountain gorillas along the route. Visiting the historic research camp of Dian Fossey — where she lived and was killed — is a powerful and moving highlight and not to be missed.
