Mount Greylock State Reservation

Mount Greylock in Adams is the highest point in all of Massachusetts. It features many amazing trails that you can choose from. They all vary in length and difficulty so you can decide what's best for you! Towards the top, the climate starts turning boreal and it features these beautifully smelling pine trees. The view on the summit is absolutely incredible as well, allowing you to see multiple mountain ranges and even the city of Adams itself. It also gets pretty cool up here, and during this summer it's so nice and breezy. Overall, I would recommend Mount Greylock for hiking, and overall enjoying the awesome landscape.

Enjoyed my day here. Hiked to Deer Hill Falls, March Cataract Falls, and Money Brook Falls and drove up to Mount Greylock.

An amazing hike spot, did it in early Feb and was hard and challenging… however the view at the top and the outlook, the way icicles and frozen water drops made the trees look mesmerizing, the snow filled trees at the top, and coming back down; totally worth it! Had a lot of fun! 🤩

Definitely the best mountain views in the state as it has the highest peaks of Southern New England. There are a lot of trails in the reservation, but I found some parts to be so lightly traveled that they were getting a bit overgrown and narrow. Most of the trails aren't actually that difficult compared to some other areas, but found it to be very rooty. Saw a porcupine and quail. Summit and the building were nice, but fairly crowded since many people drove to the top. Barely saw anyone on the trails.

Even if you only have time to drive thru the park it is worth it. Hiking is better. Driving and stopping at the vistas is a pretty decent option. Gorgeous views on all direction. Note that at times there might be an entry fee of $20 per out-of-state vehicle near the high point parking lot, but there wasn’t on the day that I went. Free entry. Maybe because it was later in the day. 5 minutes or less to the top of the tower if you go there. And great views all around.

Great area for hiking! Visitor's center with some great info about the area and friendly staff. Includes display of conditions at center and at summit. Trails well marked and mainly left natural, with boards laid in some soggy areas. Would definitely like to get back here again.

Second time at the Mountain, nice place with a great view

Our visit to Mount Greylock was nothing short of breathtaking! As the highest point in Massachusetts, we imagine the panoramic views from the summit would be absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, the peak was cloud covered with breaking sun during our visit. The drive up was scenic, with winding roads offering glimpses of the charming woodland scenes. Once at the top, the Veterans War Memorial Tower added a historical touch to the beauty of the surroundings. The short hike around the summit was peaceful. If you're feeling adventurous, there are longer trails that seemed perfect for a day hike. We didn't have time to tackle them all but definitely plan to return. We hid a coin in a slate rock wall near the Appalachian Trail for our church brother to find should he reach this spot during his early 2025 attempt at traversing the trail. There's a small visitor center however it was closed during our visit. We were unable to grab a quick bite at Bascom Lodge. All in all, Mount Greylock is a must-see if you're in the Berkshires, offering the perfect blend of nature, history, and beauty. Just be sure to bring your camera--the views are unforgettable!

Today we visited Mount Greylock the highest peak in Massachusetts. There are many trails to explore and many hikers. Before going I realized it would take all day to climb. Thus, we drove up. The roads are well paved but winding with a few hairpin turns. Very worth the ride. The views are amazing. The monument at the top was built in 1933. The smell of the balsam pine trees reminded me of Christmas. A wonderful day on the mountain in September!

I drove the scenic byway to the summit and was so glad I did. Amazing views. I climbed to the top of the tower. If you like to hike, there are a number of trails you can take to the summit, or, you can drive to it. Either way, you are guaranteed to enjoy the beauty.

Update: still an amazing hike but they took the water fountain out at the top so please BRING EXTRA WATER as the lodge isnt always open. We didnt know this and it was a problem. Our fault for not checking but heads up

Good experience. Took a trial prior to peak on rocky road. Parking on right only 5 cars, but may park to left at beginning of trail along the right side. At top, 83 spiral steps, not easy but doable for near 70 year olds. Great & friendly visitor's center with model of mountains & good movie.

Hmm - What needs to be said can't be said with words because the feeling of the sunlight melting on your skin and having your lungs drinking up the crisp mountain air is an experience only for those who have the love and zest for life still burning in their heart. I have to admit that I didn't appreciate it the last time that I was here in October 2013 but that's because there was a dense fog that was to date unheard of before. So although my wife who is from this area continued to express to me that she'd like me to revisit and give it a second chance, I'd always tease her to stop trying to get me to visit a place that doesn't really exist. If you visit in the fall, there's the beauty of the trees with the array of changing colors of the leaves, if you visit in the Winter (probably not the best time to do so because traversing the mountains in anything less than a 4WD would be quite treacherous. Then there's the visit during the Spring-Summer time where the sky is clear and you can literally see for miles and to see the mountain floor dotted with man's buildings and achievements really pales in comparison to the majesty of the mountains. If you're coming to visit the Great Barrington, a stop at Mount Greylock and the War Memorial Tower would be an awesome stop to have on your list of things to do. Covid-19 puts the tower off limits at present .

We're currently staying here as we are in the middle of a cross country relocation. We have only been here 2 weeks but the owner has been very accommodating by staying open for us when she should have been closing the season this past week. Unfortunately today, as I am writing this, there's no one in the office & I have left a message concerning 2 things that we need help with about 30 minutes ago & am waiting to hear back from someone. Hopefully they respond before nightfall because we have an infant with us. The only negative thing about this campground is that they only have freshwater, grey water & electric hookups & there are 6 of us staying in this 5th wheel so we are missing the sewer hookups but it's understandable in the Berkshires just missing it is all.

Attentive Service at the visitors center & open bathrooms. Beautiful views from the back windows... see photos! Campion is still closed due to the pandemic two years later in their primitive sites, a shame! Taking beautiful hikes here and enjoying the fresh air & scenery. A must see for hikers and moderate to difficult climbs. But you can just enjoy a beautiful stroll around the grounds if you don't want to commit to a full hike.

This is a must see in the area. While visiting this summer my fiance and I took the drive to the visitor center for information. A few of the employees were especially helpful here. They are willing to plan out your entire hike based on your interests and expertise. I highly, highly recommend stopping here to chat with the experts, pick up a map and check out some of the displays they have available. The drive up is breathtaking with plenty of areas to pull over and take pictures. At the peak there is a nominal fee with plenty of parking, amazing views and a tower to climb dedicated to our soldiers. The climb is steep and long but on a clear day you can see into New York and Vermont! I happened to see a small happy cloud float by while at the top of the tower. The trails are all moderate to expert level from what I can tell. My fiance and I took about a 5 mile hike on one of the easiest trails. We passed lots of nice camping sites to reach a picnic table on the edge of the mountain. It was awesome! The hike and views were well worth our time. The small fee to see the peak of Mount Greylock was well worth it. I highly recommend!

Did you know that Mount Greylock is the highest point in MA at 3491 feet? There are 2 ways to get up there. 1) Hike 2) Drive Of course I chose option 2. PRO TIP: The parking fee is $5 if you have an MA car plates. It is $20 for other car plates. It was extremely cold when we got to the top, so I did not last more than 10 min up there. We went during early fall so the foliage was beautiful. I decided it was better to take photos from inside the car so I could stay warm, than stand outside and take photos. Since I went during COVID, a lot of attractions were closed such as the visitor center. However, I still got to enjoy the amazing view and foliage. You can also do other activities here such as camping, hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing etc. I chose driving because I am lazy. In other words, there is something for everyone no matter your level of fitness / laziness.

Up, Up Up you go into the clouds and then Heaven. Today Lee and I drove south from Williamstown thru Greylock and then down the other side to Route 7 south. Spectacular views, freshly paved roads and a few areas to pull over for a photo op. About a 20 min drive each way w some hairpin turns. Don't miss peeking at Bascom Lodge up top. A rustic but beautifully inviting destination for thruhikers and those looking to enjoy a 3 course meal for about 37 dollars with breathtaking views from the rear glass enclosed porch. Lodging avail as well, private or communal bunk style. Don't miss a ride up here at least once, but pick a nice clear day for best views. .

Hiked the Cheshire Harbor Trail yesterday on a gorgeous autumn day. The trail is well marked, although a few forks may deter a few hikers they are easily figured out with common sense. The summit on a clear day is breathtaking, the Bascom lodge is extremely inviting, and climbing the top of the war memorial is an absolute must!

Mount Greylock is the best place to get high in Massachusetts! Seeing as it's the highest point in the state. You can either hike up here, or there is an auto Road. Parking at the summit is $5. Let's be honest, if this wasn't the highest point in Massachusetts, then there would be no reason to come up here. At all. If it weren't for the development, it would be a wooded summit. Which means your views are limited to places that were clear cut. The War Memorial Tower is closed currently, which is the only place to get a 360 view.

Great trail to hike, but I wouldn't recommend doing it in April since there is still about a foot or so on the ground near the summit which makes the journey there a bit torturous. The trail is not well defined, except for the footprints, during the winter, so if you're not familiar with the path then don't do it. Overall, the view from the summit is surreal and these pictures doesn't fully tell the story of the highest mountain in Massachusetts!

DO NOT GO ON BACKPACKERS TRAIL! Unless you are an expert I could have died but boy was it beautiful. Going to the top was wonderful. The views were breath taking. The trails are pretty rough but was a great work out. Love this place and the town around it. Food around the town to stop and eat. Also there are camping sites on the MT, waterfalls and also a visitors center for maps and Historical info. Great half a day or all day trip. I would recommend going on long trails with really young children, but older kids, yes. Must check out! Also if you drive 2 hours out to NY, there is a larger Waterfall spot as well. Near Hillsdale town. Beautiful.

MT. Greylock is worth a stop to hike, bike or drive to the top to see some of the best scenic views within the four-state area. There is a visitors center where there is a topographical map of the entire reserve, written as well and historical pictures of area are hung on the interior walls chronicling the early 1900's to the present. Once you reach the top there is parking for cars, motorcycles or bikes and an ample opportunity to explore the 360 degree surroundings and magnificent views. There were para-gliders launching form the top on that day which was memorizing to watch, I was told by one glider he was expecting to ride the currents for at least 2 hours before landing. MT Greylock makes a perfect day trip to a pristine wooded mountainous park with beautiful vistas at virtually every turn, this is an activity you will want to place on your list.

My husband and I have hiked the Cheshire Harbor trail three times now and it is our favorite way to get to the summit of the mountain. We drive to West Mtn. Road and take Cheshire Harbor to Gould Trail which takes us about 1.5 hours to get to the summit. Our 6 year old dog has done the trail with us and has no problem doing it provided me stop for water breaks for her (and us). Overall, it's a beautiful trail, both in the fall and spring seasons. The summit boasts the best views in the Berkshires and is a great place to eat a packed lunch after scaling the mountain. I highly recommend this trail if you want a moderate workout and don't want too long of a hike (takes us 3-3.5 hours overall). Be forewarned: you will be sore the next day! I just hiked it today and am 5 months pregnant !

We enjoyed a beautiful sunny day going to the summit of Mount Greylock. The trail at the top was enjoyable, as was the lodge and the summit monument. It was towards the end of the day, we decided to do one last adventure and that's exactly what we got! Amy read the there was a falls that we could hike to, we had an hour left to sundown and the trail was only .75 miles long. Thinking we would have ample time to go and come back, we embarked on the hike. Going down, we followed the blue markers on the trees. The trail got very narrow at points. We finally found the falls, but it was at that moment when I began to panicked and wanted to go back. I feared the climb up. I told my son and daughter-in-law, "Let's go back. I will need more time to climb up." As typical of my son, he didn't listen, so I made the mistake of starting to go back alone. The path back was very poorly marked and as dusk set in, it was even more difficult to see the markers and extremely small signs. I had a feeling that I was on the wrong path, so I turned back, but unfortunately couldn't find my son and daught-in-law. That's when fear set in...so I kept going as fast as I could, but night soon set in and I still hadn't reached the parking lot. Three hours had passed and I was exhausted and out of water. Luckily I had my cell phone, or so I thought...The mountain probably got it's name from this. I was locked in a grey area with no cell phone reception. The light on my phone was my only hope. Without it, it was pitch dark. Luckily I had my battery pack that was enough to last the night. I also found a pack of pudding mix. Resolved that I would be spending the night in the dark woods, at least I would have something for breakfast. I also found an alarm on my phone and tried it several times to no avail. Hours passed...it was me and some moths that the light had attracted in the dark dense canopy. Then, I heard the sound of a helicopter! "Could they be looking for me?"aI looked up and only found a small clearing in the canopy close to the creek, so I ventured further down. "Hope I find the path in the morning, I thought." Another hour passed...I was planning my escape strategy for the morning while flashing SOS signals in the small opening to the sky. Minutes later, I heard a voice shouting, "Kathy! Kathy!" I immediately sounded the alarm on my phone, and they heard me! It was the local, volunteer search and rescue team! I had ventured 5 miles away from the falls and now we had to hike all the way back. It took all the little strength I had left in my body to make it back. The rescue team was finominal! We were greeted by the state and local police and park rangers. There were so many lights it looked like Christmas! The story luckily for me, turned out positive; but there are several lessons to be learned. 1 - Never hike alone, even if your son doesn't listen 2 - The park has to place a better sign on the path up back to the parking lot from the falls 3 - The park should mark the trails with different colors. 4 - Trails that aren't maintained should be closed 5 - Cell phone towers should be added to avoid dark spots on the trails. 6 - Don't start a hike at the end of the day 7 - When hiking, wear long pants, hiking boots or sneakers, bring plenty of sunscreen, food and water and a strong flashlight THANK YOU SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM! YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!

1. Stop at the Visitor Center before you continue to drive up the mountain. There's a short video to watch, some exhibits on the history of the park, and a driving map. 2. Stop along the way at the places marked on the driving map. We were limited on time, so we just stopped a couple times. We didn't get to do any hikes today so it was nice to have a driving map. 3. Stop for the view at the top though it probably would be more spectacular if it were fall time. The memorial tower was locked today. We walked along the Appalachian trail for a little bit just so that we can say we did it. However, kudos to the backpackers that we saw at the top who were taking a rest from hiking on the AT.

Just wonderful! I really enjoyed spending a few hours here. There's a nice little snack place I wish had more food options but it was good enough to quiet the hunger. The view is breathtaking! Totally worth the 1.5 hours drive.

Best view of the Berkshire from the summit. Quite a lot bugs at the beginning of June. Also, the tower is closed for renovation. In that case, only one side (I think North Adams direction) is visible from the summit. Still, totally worth the 20 min drive up the mountain

Whether you hike or drive, you have to get to the top of this mountain. You will be rewarded with spectacular views, the Memorial tower and Bascom Lodge for facilities and a bite to eat. We were only in the area for less than a day and didn't have time to hike so we drove to the top and walked around a bit. There are places along the drive to pull over so you can appreciate the fantastic view of the small towns surrounding the mountain. I'll definitely spend more time here next time I am in the area and I highly recommend it.

We had a great time hiking on the Mt Greylock State Reservation. There were multiple places to park along the road on the way to the top, each of which offered ways to lengthen or shorten the overall hike. We ended up parking at the campground lot which made for about 5.5 miles round trip to the top. On the way up, the trail was well marked because everyone is heading to the same place, the Summit. We used the Campground, Hopper, and Appalachian Trail. The summit was definitely worth the effort -- the veterans memorial was cool, Bascom Lodge as well, but the view was incredible. Seeing all the different mountains across the horizon was great (they had a very helpful guide to what you were seeing) and the way the mountain towered over Adams, MA was crazy. We packed a lunch with we are up top, along with buying another round of waters. We took the same trails back down; there were a couple of spots going that way where the signage wasn't entirely clear, but having been that way just a little before it turned out fine. 5.5 miles and about 2:25 round trip made for a great part-day trek while camping in the area.

Overall nice sites to see. As a NY resident, to park at the summit it's $10. Eh. I honestly just drove up and took a gander and made my way to trails. Stop by the information booth to find out which trails are easy and which are difficult. Pets can come along but make sure they have a tick collar because of tick season. There's a drive tour in which there's a nice paved road all the way up to the summit. I would suggest going to the reservation mid day (like noon or a little afterwards) because when I went in the morning, there was a bit of fog in the summit which made it a little hard to see.

Great place to hike. Nice to just drive up and enjoy the views also. Beautiful views on a clear day. Stop in to visitor center, guides are excellent. Trails are marked well easy to follow, get a map at the visitor center. Beware any hiking trail to summit is rocky and steep, not great for 1st time hikers. Easier trails are lower down the mountain and still offer nice views, then drive up to the summit. Camping area looked really nice.

Excellent hike on a cloudy morning. Found a beautiful granite structure at the top. Brushed aside the moss and weeds and saw an engraving for Sayre and Steward. I couldn't see anything on the other side but had an eerie feeling that I was being watched by dozens of invisible eyes through the fog as if covered by an enchantment. Curious feeling. Also saw some snakes in the area so be cautious. I could hear faintly children singing as if in a school cheer, "(Caw-caw, caw-caw!) , (Purr-purr!) "

Greylock is the best. First of all, even if you peruse the trail maps online beforehand, I highly recommend stopping at the Visitor Center. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable and can design a hike based on how strenuous and how long you want your hike to be, in addition to what you'd like to see. I can't get over how well they know the mountain; they know it so well they can tell you which way to walk away from your car in the parking lot (for the compass-blind among us - where the bleep is north?!) to get to your trail. Greylock is great too because it has multiple parking lots along the way to the top, so you can plan your starting point accordingly. Also, even though I'm guilty of having a superiority complex over the people who drive up, I do appreciate that you can drive up. The trails themselves are beautiful, well-marked, and well-maintained. The sound of traffic completely falls away during most of the hike. Everyone I've met on the hike has been courteous and friendly. All in all, a peaceful and respectful atmosphere. The view at the top is unbelievable. There is a restaurant/cafeteria, but there's also a great hilltop where you can sit, enjoy the view, and scarf down the lunch you packed. And then you can tell your friends you climbed the highest peak in Massachusetts!

Beautiful drive to the top, with lots of signage about hiking trails - helpful staff at the summit, cool to get to the top of the memorial and be the "highest people in Massachusetts" - also fun to meet so many people taking a break from their thru-hikes of the AT. Highly recommend, especially if you have kids, great learning-in-nature experience!

I can't count the number of times as a Boy Scout we climbed and camped on this beautiful mountain. The trails are well kept and the view from the summit is one of the best in Massachusetts. Campsites are available, but may be full, so call first. But you don't have to hike this mountain which is the highest natural point in Massachusetts at 3,491 feet. You can drive up the road to the top, which is usually in very good condition. Take it slow, as you may encounter, wildlife, hikers and other visitor traffic on the sometimes narrow roads. All along the way, you will find breathtaking views to stop and enjoy. The true reward is when you reach it's peak. Massachusetts Veterans War Memorial Tower, Bascom Lodge, and the Thunderbolt Ski Shelter. On average, Mount Greylock rises 2,000 ft above surrounding river valleys and 1,000 ft above the Berkshires and Taconic Mountains. From the summit, views of up to 70-135 miles are possible into five different states: Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Enjoy, and pack a lunch, it will be worth it.

Living in Massachusetts I felt obligated to hike Greylock at least once. We went during a fairly heavy rain storm which obscured any vistas from the top. The trail (Gould) we took up was somewhat boring and the one we walked down (Chestire Harbor trail) was actually a stream due to the rain. For the highest peak in the state I would have expected ranger's or trail groomers to prevent this from happening. The trails are well marked and would be a nice hike for families and novice hikers. The monument at the summit was cool with a lookout tower and somewhat eerie statements remembering U.S. soldiers.

This place is pretty amazing. It's the tallest mountain in Massachussets, and the only one to have a substantial amount of boreal forest (Taiga) around the summit. There is also a much more extensive area of mixed forest that goes considerably farther down the mountain. The unique ecology of this mountain is a function of its microclimate--it is easily 10 (or much more) degrees F cooler at the top, so this is a great place to come on a hot summer day. If you come in spring or fall, and want to do the whole hike, though, be warned...it can get much, much colder at the top. The weather at the top can be considerably more unpredictable too (think wind, snow, rain). If it's already cool at the bottom, bring extra clothing, and even if it's dry below, be open to the possibility of precipitation at the top. If you're into hiking, there are lots of trails, including both the trail to the summit, and a whole variety of side trails. The Appalachian trail also runs through this area. If you're into birdwatching, this place is a goldmine. Expect to find such unusual species as breeding blackpoll warbler (only found at the very top, I think), blackburnian warbler (which can be found a bit lower down), yellow-rumped warbler, winter wren, purple finch, and a whole bunch of other species that do not as commonly breed at lower altitudes. At one point I stepped out of the car and heard, in very little time at all, black-throated blue, black-throated green, worm-eating, and blackburnian warblers, all in a single spot, with excellent viewing opportunties provided by the mixed and partly open forest. And this was in July! The road to the summit has recently been repaved. It is not only open, but it is in excellent shape, and it is a very easy drive. If you're worried about a treacherous climb in your car, stop worrying, because this is about as easy as it gets for a mountain of this height in a state park. At the top, there's a monument, and a little lodge and restaurant. The restaurant serves surprisingly good food at a reasonable price too.

I've been up to the top on a few different occasions and have always enjoyed it. My best experience was when I hiked up "The Thunderbolt" ski run which is extremely steep and best done with proper footwear and a walking stick. The trail was extremely quiet and surrounded by vegetation. Upon reaching the summit, I was treated to a scene of complete serenity due to the fact that the two access roads were closed for repairs. It was really a treat to be up on the mountain by myself, with the exception of one through-hiker on the Appalachian trial that I later ran into. There are a wealth of trails and scenic viewpoints to be had. The view is also quite stunning, especially on a clear day. Additionally, Bascom Lodge and the War Memorial have been restored over the years and both are worth a visit. My one knock on the place is that the majority of people just drive up to the top and fill up the parking lot (which is not free). As the damage has already been done, I won't spend time decrying the roads, but it might've been nice if the parking lot was a few hundred feet below the summit (like Clingman's Dome). Note: Don't expect any peace if it is snobby/rude/crass NY/NJ rich camp kid season.

One of the best hiking and view place of the Berkshire! Don't forget to take a look inside the Bascom Lodge, lovely lodge where you can staying overnight and have lunch or dinner.

Took the motorcycle up the road to the summit. Nice road. Be careful as you need to go slow and there is no passing. I would have given the summit 4 stars but they charged $6 for every motorcycle in my party. We crammed 4 bikes in each space so I do not see the charge as being fair. Otherwise it is a nice place to visit.

Absolutely beautiful way up here...and I mean way up! You can see everything from the peak and it's a stunning view. They have bathrooms and an information center as well-so don't freak out if you get to the top and realize you really really gotta 'go'. The drive up is relatively easy, without many tight turns, and there are tons of pull-outs to take pictures and take in the mountain range.

I grew up my entire childhood in Western Massachusetts and have never been up here. Home visiting, we hopped in the car and drove around the Berkshire region for an afternoon visiting great local towns along the way. As we came into Lanesboro, my iPhone pulled up this park, so we decided to check it out. I remembered something about it being one of the highest points in Massachusetts and come to find out, it actually is the highest. The drive up to the lookout area is nice and a very smooth ride...it seems newly paved. Once at the top, you must pay for parking. $5 for MA residents, $6 for all other state license plates. There is the War Memorial Tower erected at the summit. Not sure what war it commemorates. There is also a lookout area with great view towards the east. The area where you stand gives you a description of what you are looking at in all directions. It's also nice to just take a seat on the lawn area and enjoy the great views and perfect summer weather. A beverage container would certainly come in handy filled with your favorite grape based product (wink, wink) and some small nibbles to take in more of the view. There is a lodge at the summit also and a small restaurant. Hiking trails are marked all along the drive up and there is a visitor's center near the base to stop in a pick up maps. Worth the time for an hour or two if your passing through.

We drove in the middle of October and looked up on trip advisor for suggestions and came up with this monument on our drive to see fall foliage in MA. Nice drive up the mountain. Stop by the visitor center and pick up a free map that tells you about the different scenic stops and brief info about the places. Parking in top if the mountain at the monument is $2. Currently the monument is undergoing renovations from the inside.

Pending further review because the summit road was still closed and the trees hadnt budded due yet due to the polar vortex of the 2013/14 winter. Will return. Took a backside hike on the North Adams side up to Cataract Falls which was lovely.

Beautiful! Highly recommend going here. We walked up inside the tower and could see so far! Nice little cafe up top too for lunch.

We stopped by here on our way to the Clark Institute and Williams College in Williamstown. This place is wonderful to get a good view of the Mount Greylock at the summit which you can drive to. Then, hike your way down to see some waterfalls. Perfect stop to relax at the top and enjoy the view while having some lunch.

BEAUTIFUL but dangerous hike. I fell on a slippery rock, gashed my knee and messed up my phone. The view from the top overlooking the New England states was gorgeous though. I am happy to say that I ventured the hike. The trails are a bit confusing though. The Appalachian trail and the Overlook trail were rough. Definitely a workout.

Easy pretty drive to highest point in MA and good parking, you can walk the Appalachian Trail and see for miles. There is also a lodge where you can get a tea or coffee or lunch and use the restroom. Easy to walk around too. Only open from end of April to mid October due to ice and snow rest of year.

We headed there for a long 8 miles hike and enjoyed every moment. Real adventure to nature's lovers.

One of the best parks we have hiked. The trails are well marked and the visitor's center has a lot of good information. There is at least one trail for everyone's ability! The Farm Trail is interesting, but I think it's somewhere between Easy and Moderate.. The transition from hardwood to coniferous forests through the park was very interesting. It was a great adventure!

Review for the hiker: Great mountain since there are so many different trails to hike that vary in difficulty. Like any mountain with a road leading to the summit, there is a bit of a buzz kill to arrive and find a lack of tranquility and instead find a small carnival atmosphere. But hey, just try to find a quiet corner and enjoy the view, if you are that tired to complain about the kids running around screaming, you need to hike some more. :-) We did the Tom's Jones Trail to AT to summit and return trip took AT south to Hooper Trail to CC Dynamite Trail to Tom Jones parking lot. It was a full day hike with time to sit in the summit and enjoy a nice picnic lunch.

My first trip I drove up and then hiked not knowing the area and wanting to get the lay of the land. My second trip I parked mid mountain and had an adventure. Brought my dog which was great. Get the free trail map and you'll have a blast walking the trails. The AT runs through part of the park which is great. The people I met were so informative, have been hiking the area for years. Enjoy yourself, it's a lovely place.

We started at the visitor center, got some maps, and asked for a 4-5 hour hike. The person gave us a route, which was right about 4 hours, not including spending 20 minutes at the top. Mount Greylock is the tallest peak in Mass, but doesn't feel like it. It's a mountain amidst mountains, so doesn't stand out that much. the hike was gorgeous and I loved it, but it wasn't super difficult considering the peak. Mount Washington is about 10 times harder. This was really pleasant, but surprisingly easy for the tallest peak. But it was absolutely gorgeous and a great hike. We drove to the Jones Nose parking lot and took the Saddle Ball Mountain path up to the peak. This trail is steep at first as you get up the ridge, then you walk along the ridge to the peak, going up and down a bit. We expected great views, but you're surrounded by trees throughout, so it doesn't feel like you're walking along a ridge. At the top, we chilled at the monument (couldn't climb it), poked into the Bascom Lodge to see ppl stand in line forever for sub-par muffins, and watched hang-gliders run off the cliff and fly around. It was a gorgeous day and perfect for hanging out up there. Then we took the Hopper to the Dynamite trails down. Different from the other trail as this descends quickly and goes along the valley - quite different trees. Also very pretty. Great hikes, great day. The maps were helpful and easy to follow
