Note on Mount Manipur National Park – Andaman & Nicobar Islands
Mount Manipur National Park, located on South Andaman Island, is a protected ecological zone known for its rich biodiversity and scenic landscapes. Formerly known as Mount Harriet National Park, it was renamed Mount Manipur in 2021 to honor the freedom fighters from Manipur who were exiled to the Andamans during British rule.
The park is home to Mount Manipur (365 m)—the third-highest peak in the Andaman Islands—offering panoramic views of the surrounding islands and the sea. Covered with dense tropical evergreen forests, the park shelters a variety of wildlife, including Andaman wild pigs, saltwater crocodiles, rare reptiles, and several endemic bird species. It is especially popular among birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
Mount Manipur National Park is also rich in cultural and historical value. Scenic trekking routes, lush forest trails, and viewpoints make it a peaceful retreat for visitors looking to experience the natural beauty and heritage of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
