3 Best Day Trips From Vancouver | Condé Nast Traveler
"At Mount Maxwell Provincial Park, you can drive—or, if you’re uber-fit, walk—up a rustic, potholed road and twisty hills for stupendous views of Vancouver Island and the start of some wonderful hiking trails. If you’re driving up and down the mountain, allow about 20 minutes each way. Then, depending on how much hiking you want to do at the top, budget another one to three hours. Don't miss the viewpoint at the top of Mount Maxwell—Baynes Peak, Salt Spring's highest point—for amazing vistas, not only of Vancouver Island, but also south to the San Juan Islands." - Liz Humphreys
Gorgeous view at top! Multiple trail heads with various length of trails to get up there.
We did #1 (shortest and steepest) to see a sun down. 4 different view points were all good. 1.2k one way. Took us 45 min round trip.

So fun! It was snowing when I went. The roads and forests were covered in a blanket of white! Magic! My 4x4 and I loved the last bit of rough rugged road. The view from the top is usually breathtaking but alas it was foggy. Beautiful still just different. There are picnic tables so you can enjoy the area at your leisure. A must-see! I'll be back for sure.

The views at the top are absolutely stunning, absolutely worth the time, but you'll likely have to hike up now, the road up has been deteriorating for years now, and has been rendered impassable for anything less than a 4x4

Epic View's and rest areas once you've reach the Lookout ❣️ this is one of the best Lookouts I've been to in awhile 😲 You can hike up or bike , even 4X your way up. The drive up is awesome, you'll come across a bump or two 😁❤️
Then you get to the views 🤯 wow
This is a must do💯🔥❤️❣️👍🏽
So Beautiful ❤️🔥💯

The road to the top of the mountain is very rough. You cannot get to the top unless you have a 4 wheel drive and good ground clearance or walk.
The area is beautiful. There is a restroom at the top of the mountain by the parking area. There is a large picnic table at the top of the mountain and several benches at to look out.

Usually hike up but drove this time. The road is still in really bad shape from erosion. 4x4 and high clearance recommended. Had AWD but needed to park and hike up the last 2-3 km. Worth going up for the views from multiple directions.

Mount Maxwell is a must see to get the complete Salt Spring experience. Very beautiful forests and views. You need a vehicle with clearance because the last 5 kms of road is “rugged”

The road up is in terrible condition def follow the warning signs about 4x4. Dont go if you don't want to maybe wreck your car or are experienced. Nice views!
