What an adventure. From what I was told, most people travel to the top by hiking. I had a rental jeep so I decided to drive to the top. There is a roadway but it is narrow with no guardrails to prevent you from falling probably to your death. I would not recommend you drive it but if you do and find yourself faced with another vehicle coming the opposite way, it will be difficult to pass. Take your time and be careful. Once you reach the top, it is difficult to get turned around.

What an experience! My friend and I decided to do this hike around 2pm so the day was starting to cool off. We read Google reviews in hopes of finding out what to expect but we were unsuccessful, the reviews did not help us at all! We used Google maps to guide us their via car, and if you have a good, all terrain vehicle you’d possibly be fine to drive to the top (if you’re not a scared driver). After getting back I’ve done more research and it seems the best way to do this is to do a guided tour, we didn’t know that. The road is very steep most of the way up (the pictures don’t do it justice) this hike is definitely not for anyone who doesn’t do regular exercise and there’s no way our little rental car would’ve made it, and when we finally got to the top the gates were locked so we didn’t get the beautiful 360° view we were hoping for. So if you’re planning to do this yourself, I recommend doing more research than us and potentially finding yourself a guide to go with (one website I saw said the guides have a key to unlock the gates at the top) because it is a beautiful walk.

The path heading south starts just behind and to the right of the Mount Obama picnic area - do NOT go all the way to the agricultural center down the road. Pretty hot and humid - as to be expected, but nicely shaded pathway. Go to the right of the gates along the wall for a nice view without going inside at the top.

You can not get to the tower with out some authority (gates locked at the top) but a view can be seen with walking around the fence. Steep hill to walk, cannot take a van or less than 4WD (our van spun out), too narrow for passing cars. If you're going, walk don't drive it, leave the vehicle at the bottom before turning left by the small farms. Advanced hike, concrete path/road, hairpin turns, mostly shaded. Go early in the day, long hike d/t the steepness.

Awesome 4x4 drive

Be warned: this is not in any way a national park or even really a publicly accessible location. 4-wheel drive is required if you want to drive to the summit and it's a steep one lane dirt/paved road. We passed a gentleman who was quite fit and walked to the summit in ~40min from the road entrance. Once you do reach the summit, you'll be greeted by a gate and sign that says no public entrance. We parked our car here and walked around the fence to see the incredible view that made the journey worth it. Enjoy!

We went up from the north side on the trail. Access from the south is a road. It's an intermediate, not dangerous hike through dense vegetation and some really cool giant bamboo clusters. The trailhead is on the right as you are going up the road into the woods at the monument and picnic tables. It's easy to find and follow with ribbons or having already been beaten down from hikers. Less than one hour bottom to top if you're in any kind of shape. You can walk around the exterior of the cell tower fencing to see great southern and northwestern views. WARNING!!! We parked at the picnic tables mid-day on a Tuesday, and found the gate locked (us locked in) when we returned. Good advice is to park outside the gate, and walk in the last few hundred yards to the trailhead.
