From my experience, the hike is definitely not the easiest. Granted, I've only been on a few hikes in my entire life, but I was absolutely knackered and soaked head to toe (this was the end of December, too!) when we reached the summit. And us being so oblivious, we thought it'd be no problem at all taking the cable car only on the way up and walking the trail back down. Suffice to say, my knees especially took a hell of a beating.
The views, though, were abundantly breathtaking to say the least. Luckily the weather was excellent, so we got a good glimpse at a snow-capped Mt Fuji. Tokyo also looked so tiny in the distance. And of course, there was no shortage of greenery, even in the winter, when many trees go bald.
Overall, it's certainly a recommendable experience. Just do your research and don't forget to prep properly: bring plenty of electrolytes, water, and compact calories from the billion combinis out there.
Happy hiking!
