This place is phenomenal! I recently stayed at Mount Royal Hotel, and it was such a wonderful place to stay, all around! The rooms were cozy, and pretty aesthetically pleasing. I loved the big window as well, you could look down at the street, or up to a beautiful view of the mountains. My experience with the staff was great as well, they were all very kind and helpful. I love how clean everything is, and the bathrooms were gorgeous and everything was laid out efficiently. Bonus points for a comfortable bed, the mini library and 'museum' on the second floor, as well as the splendid hot tubs on the rooftop by the lounge. The views from the hot tubs are incredible, and it creates an especially gorgeous and captivating atmosphere if you go in the evening or at night. Additionally to all of this, what makes this hotel so brilliant is its convenient location, as it is located right on Main Street, downtown. This added an extra positive for us, since we spent quite a bit of our stay in Banff in the downtown or shops near our hotel, and could easily come back and drop stuff off or take a break. It's also better for the environment, as the shorter walking distance decreases the desire or need to travel by vehicle, increases people walking and decreases using cars or other vehicles running on gas, and keeps the air cleaner and helps the National Park thrive. It's also extremely difficult to find parking in Banff, so it was exceptionally beneficial to park our car in the parking lot and walk most places. There are also public transit options available in the Banff area. All around, this was a truly exceptional hotel! Would recommend!

The Mount Royal is in a prime location in Banff with free parking. (Not to be taken for granted).||We had a problem with the first room we were allocated but the hotel staff were brilliant with resolving the issue quickly which was greatly appreciated. The rooms are big enough for a few days (we stayed two nights), they are comfortable, have great showers and toiletries, quiet and my wife informed me that the robes are amazing. You can buy one if you have space in your bags. There were usb ports in the room we had for charging and tea/coffee making.||We did not use the restaurant as we wanted to see what Banff had to offer.||If I was to return to Banff, would I stay here again, absolutely.

Do not be fooled by 'Mia' this is not a person it is an automated menu, rude at times, that lies when you ask if it is an automated or a robot, then passes you off to another automated menu before you can opt to speak to the front desk. It does not seem management has called it themselves to understand the customer experience they are creating. Kristina Fox would be a good resource for your hotel turnaround. First impression, the rest to be seen. *update One of the main reasons I had previously called was to ensure I could park while at hotel and was told once arrived and a space freed up could be accommodated. Staff was great. Hotel & room is both dated and renovated, which makes for a more interesting stay, particularly as the property consists of 2 adjoined buildings. Some halls are quite long. The upgraded room had a couch in the main area and suitable for several people. Bathroom floor needed cleaning on arrival, long hair stuck to shower walls in a couple places noticed on 2nd day. The one parking lot is so narrow the open spot was inaccessible, slightly angling parking would provide additional space. They said parking is $10/night first come first serve, so paid for every day here. Failed to have a parking spot when I arrived 3rd night after conference, indicating they over sell available spaces. While they said they’d refund the over sold night, this did not ensure a place to park. Better management of the available parking and not overselling available spots would make a better customer experience.  Just allocate a spot to the vehicle and check, there's not many spots this could easily be done, plus you have everything visible on camera. General area and outdoor hot tub have great views, only 1 hot tub was working though, and even though it was not a cold day the working tub was not that hot. Ample seating & towels. Although the potential exists for a 4 star experience, is a 3 star hotel.

We've stayed here many times. And it's been great until they started to charge for random things - like parking. Why? When they don't really have enough for everyone, it's very limited. And there hot tubs are not very appealing anymore. As the last 3x's we've been one of them had been closed. It's not as fun to be given a timer for how long you can stay in the tub and being watched on the camera to get out after a certain amount of time, as well as knee to knee with strangers. Not sure if the location is enough anymore to choose this hotel over so many great options.

Room very dark , couple of hot tubs on roof doesnt scream luxury? No spa or gym or pool. In todays times this should be standard. The lifts are rickety and squeaky, this hotel isnt cheap also . No room sevice either is a let down .would definitely try other hotels in the area at the same rate that offer more .

I had an amazing stay at the Mount Royal Hotel in Banff! The location is perfect, right in the heart of town and close to everything. The service was amazing, and the receptionist was so friendly and welcoming. I’d definitely stay here again

Love the hotel! Excellent location right in the middle of the darling Main Street of Banff. It is literally straight out of a Hallmark movie. The staff was warm, friendly, engaging and very helpful. Our room was comfy and super clean, but the location of the room was a bit weird as there was zero view of anything out the windows. Our room was in a section that had been purchased and added onto the original hotel a few years prior. The spas located on the roof were amazing! we hung out there quite a bit after all the walking we did every day. Dinner at Brazen was very good. We had to walk out on breakfast unfortunately as things were running a bit slow that morning. We would definetly come back again.

My mom & I came from Calgary for a relaxing weekend in Banff. This was my first (and last) time visiting the Mount Royal Hotel. My mom has always wanted to stay here, so I surprised her with this visit. Upon arriving to Banff, mom and I stopped by the hotel to learn about our stay. The staff was friendly & told us we could check in at 1 pm, and they prepared us a parking pass for $10. Mom & I left for a short hike a returned to the hotel a few hours later. Upon our return there was no hotel parking available. We were confused because we had already paid for our parking pass. In hindsight, I wish we would have known the hotel was going to oversell parking passes, and we would have planned our visit differently. After doing multiple laps of the hotel & surrounding area, we couldn’t find parking within blocks of the hotel. We drove around for 20 minutes before we found a public parking spot. We then learnt that parking was over $80 per day and was required from 8 am-8 pm. We owed $28 for the remainder of the day. We watched as hotel guests desperately tried to find spots everywhere — watching some people physically standing in spots blocking them with their bodies to reserve them. When I returned to the hotel the front desk staff apologized and refunded our parking pass. The next morning we didn’t get to sleep in like we wanted. We woke up before our parking expired at 8 am to try and find a new spot - still nothing available. Thus, we paid another $21 for parking. This was such a headache. After this we had a coffee and went to the hot tub at 9 am. We arrived at the hot tub at 9 am to arrive before the crowds. Upon arriving, the hot tub was only luke warm, very far from hot. Disappointed, we left the hot tub. I tired to explain our frustrations with the front desk. She explained that the hotel generally caters to “bus tours” and (and I quote) they’re still “learning” how to manage hotel parking. She said the hotel doesn’t often sell out, and this weekend was rare. She said they have cameras to help guests find parking spots - this was never offered to us. She also explained that the hot tub was only warm because they turn it down at night to for “environmental purposes.” If this is the case, why is the hotel not doing more to ensure it’s hot by 9 am when it opens, especially when guests have to check out at 11 am. Bottom line, this was unnecessarily complicated. I don’t like to post these types of reviews, but the front desk staff didn’t care. Proceed with caution as the hotel website widely understates the grim parking situation at the hotel & Banff in general.
