This place is phenomenal! I recently stayed at Mount Royal Hotel, and it was such a wonderful place to stay, all around! The rooms were cozy, and pretty aesthetically pleasing. I loved the big window as well, you could look down at the street, or up to a beautiful view of the mountains. My experience with the staff was great as well, they were all very kind and helpful. I love how clean everything is, and the bathrooms were gorgeous and everything was laid out efficiently. Bonus points for a comfortable bed, the mini library and 'museum' on the second floor, as well as the splendid hot tubs on the rooftop by the lounge. The views from the hot tubs are incredible, and it creates an especially gorgeous and captivating atmosphere if you go in the evening or at night. Additionally to all of this, what makes this hotel so brilliant is its convenient location, as it is located right on Main Street, downtown. This added an extra positive for us, since we spent quite a bit of our stay in Banff in the downtown or shops near our hotel, and could easily come back and drop stuff off or take a break. It's also better for the environment, as the shorter walking distance decreases the desire or need to travel by vehicle, increases people walking and decreases using cars or other vehicles running on gas, and keeps the air cleaner and helps the National Park thrive. It's also extremely difficult to find parking in Banff, so it was exceptionally beneficial to park our car in the parking lot and walk most places. There are also public transit options available in the Banff area. All around, this was a truly exceptional hotel! Would recommend!

Love the hotel! Excellent location right in the middle of the darling Main Street of Banff. It is literally straight out of a Hallmark movie. The staff was warm, friendly, engaging and very helpful. Our room was comfy and super clean, but the location of the room was a bit weird as there was zero view of anything out the windows. Our room was in a section that had been purchased and added onto the original hotel a few years prior. The spas located on the roof were amazing! we hung out there quite a bit after all the walking we did every day. Dinner at Brazen was very good. We had to walk out on breakfast unfortunately as things were running a bit slow that morning. We would definetly come back again.

We recently stayed 3 nights at the Mount Royal. There are several options in Banff, all with trade-offs. We chose the Mount Royal primarily for its location, historical significance and relative price. The pros: 1) Location can’t be beat; right in the heart of the downtown with restaurants, shopping and transportation connections right there! 2) The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable; 3) The rooms and beds are quite comfortable; 3) you can feel and experience the long history of the hotel in Banff; and, 4) The in hotel restaurant “Brazen” is really good! (See separate review). The cons: 1) Because of the old architecture, the rooms and bathrooms are a bit “cozy” and the windows look out onto the lower floor roof and HVAC units; though there is a nice view of the gorgeous surrounding mountains above that; 2) The walks to and from the elevator can be long because of the decades of add-ons and the elevator is a bit small; 3) There are refrigerators and microwaves available to guests on the 2nd floor; but, not in the rooms; and, 4) The Hot Tubs were not hot and fully functioning (also noted in other reviews). The stand out experience for us though was we accidentally left an important item in our room safe before we checked out and took our shuttle to our Calgary hotel. I was panicked! But, after calling the hotel, Amelia at the Front Desk and Stephanie with the Pursuit Team (Brewster, Mount Royal, et. al.) came to my rescue! By 9:30 that same night, they had arranged for my item to be sent to me in Calgary on a later Brewster shuttle and all was right again! No extra charge and seamless. Left me with a feeling there are good people still in this world and real customer support is still alive and well in some places. A special call out to Amelia and Stephanie for making me feel valued, cared for and in good hands with your hotel and the Pursuit group!

I really wanted to love this hotel - but I don’t. I do have to commend the photographer that took the pictures for their website…they made the place seem so much more spacious, modern, and cool than it is in person.||Good things: Great location - very central and close to shops and restaurants. Good lighting in the bathroom! (so much better for putting on makeup than the dim bathrooms I see in a lot of hotels). Decent storage for clothes and toiletries. Seemed pretty clean.||Not so good things: We stayed in room 314. Right next to the elevator and the ice machine. We didn’t hear any street noises, but the only way to drown out hallway noises was by turning the Fan speed to max. That was still noisy (like being in a washing machine), but at least it was a “white noise” that you could kind of ignore. The room was small - but adequately sized. Decor was drab and a bit sad-looking - dreary color scheme that could use some brightening up. ||I hope to come back to Banff, but I won’t be staying here again.

We loved our stay at the mount royal. We were met by friendly staff who couldn’t be more helpful. The rooms are modern and the beds are comfortable. The bay window overlooked the street which made for great people watching. Great location. Easy free parking. Only downside was the outdoor pool/hot tub area which looked dated.

The first thing about this hotel is the location. EVERYTHING is within a couple of blocks. Front desk staff was delightful. The offer umbrellas for borrow for the rainy times (of which we had a few.|I did find a couple of shortcomings. We had booked a junior suite thinking that it would be some kind of upgraded accommodation. While it was nice to have the extra roommates the couches in the living room could have been a little more comfortable. Most disappointing was the bathroom. Only a small sink toilet and walk in shower. Also, nowhere to easily put toiletries. The worst was the towels. Scratchy. She robes that they supply also seems to be of inferior quality to what would be acceptable||The bedroom was large and well appointed. This area of the hotel was very old. There were no closet, but rather a piece of furniture that adequalty served the purpose.||Despite my complaints, I strongly recommend staying here as the location

I booked well in advance and specifically asked for a quiet room. However, the air conditioning was unbearably loud even at the lowest setting. The window did not open, and I felt unwell with no ventilation. The night reception staff told me that the hotel was fully booked and a quieter room was not available. I was then shown two other rooms but they had the same issue. I was told that it was a longstanding problem with the Heritage wing rooms; that's why they put earplugs in bedside tables. They also promised that a manager would contact me the following day but no one did. During my stay, I had to keep the door wedged open at all times, including throughout the nights, just to get some air from the hallway. So much for privacy and security at a place charging CAD 600. At check out, they promised again that it would be sorted but so far I've had no response to multiple messages. They obviously do not expect repeat custom. The hotel is beautiful but I would not have chosen to stay there had I known.

Booked the hotel through the BigSki3 packages. Even without the package, Mount Royal Hotel's rates have been pretty reasonable around March - April period. The hotel is centrally located and near the drop-off and pick-up points for the Banff airport transfers as well as ski resort shuttles. It is also walkable to most places around town. The hotel comprises of a few blocks : which means you need to go through a couple of stairs or lifts to access some parts of the hotel. Didn't use much of the facility despite staying four nights there. I booked the entry level room, the heritage rooms. My room has a window that faces the back of a building and there isn't much of a view. As far as hotel rooms go, there is a kettle in the room which seemed rare over my trip around this part of Canada. There is a very small table to do some work: not the most comfortable of set-up and it is common to see some folks heading to the restaurant's mezzanine level to do work instead. The WiFi is stable here for online work. There is a nice lounge area next to the jacuzzi area on the top floor which only opens around evening. On a clear day, you can get a nice view of the mountains around. The pity is that there is not much of a drinks and food menu there. There is an in-house restaurant next to the lobby which is pretty good.
