Kabanjahe & Berastagi - Absolutely Amazing It's 18°c when we arrived here, it's cold, just like the feels in the UK during the spring or autumn season. While processing some of our photos which captured around Berastagi the day before, it reminds me of few places we've been before the pandemic. The Mt. Sinabung is like the image of the Mt. Fiji in Japan (which we captured from a hill in Mishima in May 2019). Our good friends in Medan (Pak Herdi) and my schoolmate in Kabanjahe (Pak Nahemia) drove us closer to the volcanic mountain at early morning the next day. The fields of agricultural activities along the road to the mountains were beautiful and inspiring. We couldn't resist but asked permission to our friends to stop by at one of the cabbage farm to capture few images with Mt. Sinabung background for remembrance. Glad to have a friendly and awesome weather the whole day. Definitely recommend to other relatives and friends from North Borneo (Sabah. Malaysia). This place is must visit destination while in Berastagi/ Kabanjahe Sumatera Utara. DkPete Berastagi, Sunday 25th June 2022 #dkpetejourney #travelphotography #kotos #mtsinabung #berastagi

Calm down, even though there are still feelings of sadness

We departed the hotel at 4 am and started the climb at around 430am, It was a easy climb up to the top of Mt Sinabung. We had a wonderful old Pak who is a well respected figure in the tour guide industry. He is very friendly, knowledgeable and good command of English. The walking up was mostly in the dark but Pak prepared torchlights for us. We reached the top just before the sunrise but was disappointed as it was cloudy. Pak then showed us the crater and some points of interests and informed us of tragic incidents that happened to climbers - usually drank too much alcohol or wandering off from the well travelled paths. We then went to the hot springs nearby to soak in the hot springs - there are many pools with varying degree of hotness - it was really nice and we can catch views of Mt Sinabung with steams coming out of it!

Massive and stunning volcano. Sinabung has erupt many time since 2010. when you enter the red zone, you will see close view of volcano. There'a ghost town, that everybody left after the eruption. I have very good experience when travel here. the trip you must have when visit Berastagi.

Although climbing the volcano is not allowed as it erupts often, you can witness the destruction it left (burned forest and villages)

⚠️ There are people from the mountains who ask for a right of passage. Did not give more than 10,000 per person. Prepare the change beforehand. ⚠️
