My wife and I stayed here for one night and we was absolutely delighted with our stay. We had a sea view that was unbelievable and the room was spotless and the victorian bath was the perfect way to relax and unwind! The staff here were polite and welcoming and very helpful. We also had dinner in the restaurant and breakfast in the morning. The food was delicious! I could not have asked for more during our stay! Thank you to the team at the Mount Stewart Hotel.

I visited this lovely hotel with my partner, staying over on Saturday 25th October. We had the most wonderful weekend. This came as a surprise because we had read several negative reviews and were very pleased to find that everything about the hotel was an absolute delight. |Our room was fabulous, spacious, immaculately clean with a lovely updated bathroom and comfortable bed. Most of all a spectacular corner location in the building with semi panoramic views across the sea and the port. Absolutely stunning. |The hotel has been nicely done up and wonderful for a building of its age and character sitting right on the sea front. Some lovely touches like a basket of cozy blankets for anyone wishes to sit out and smell the sea and listen to the crashing waves.

We went for a meal on our last night, the website menu looked fab, unfortunately its not the same. I thought i was getting fine dining. One waitress there, young pleasant girl. We were given a bottle of wine which was just left on the table for us to do the honours. Handed us menus, which looked like a menu from a cafe, a folder with plastic pages. Two of us opted for a prawn pasta that said was chilii and tomato, which was fine. But upon tasting it i think the wholw chilie powder pot had fallen in it. My husband had a steak which he said was nice. I ate the prawns and scraped the sauce off,as did my friend. I eat this in italian restaurants so not afraid of a bit of heat, even my husband who eats hot curries said it was awful. Told the waitress it was very hot at the start. And when we had finished she again asked how it was and so told her it was awful and it had ruined our last night, 2 bowls of pasta went back uneaten, she told the chef but that was it. They charged us full. Wont be going there again. Its a hotel covered in glitter. As they say all that shines is not gold.

Delicious food and excellent service. Exactly the right balance between checking our needs and giving us space. Really friendly and helpful staff, beautiful decor, and an amazing view over the stormy Irish Sea. |We've tried most of the restaurants in Portpatrick this week and this is definitely the best of them for a romantic meal!

Having booked this hotel a few years ago and received a call when we were halfway there only to be told they couldn’t accommodate us as they had no heating so move to October this year and we booked again and made it this time only to be disappointed.whilst on the whole the hotel was lovely and the meal we had was excellent we were very disappointed by the room,on entering the room we couldn’t help but notice the amount of thick dust on the back of the door, inside the wardrobe and on top of the beams and also the cobwebs from the ceiling lights, also the bathroom floor had a badly cracked tile and the blind on the window was broken so much so we had to hang a towel up from the handle so that the house right behind the hotel couldn’t see in.when we arrived we were met by a gentleman that would benefit from some hospitality skills ,not very helpful and when challenged about the room had a couldn’t care less attitude.the only offer of these matters being attended to was when we raised it with the owner’s daughter who couldn’t be more helpful she sent housekeeping up who dusted and that was it didn’t even make the bed or take away our used glasses also no complimentary water in the room or even a bar of soap, supposed to be 4star but far from it ,even on departure we weren’t even asked if we had a good time just took payment and said thanks, would I recommend this hotel? NO especially not at £150 a night certainly not worth it can’t see us being back

We have eaten here over the years quite a lot. It is hit and miss but more of a miss we feel. Although the staff are friendly very inexperienced. I asked if the rose wine was dry to be told I don’t know, I will check. I asked for ice I had to ask again. I ordered posh fish and chips but got the standard in batter. The fish was nice however chips inedible. They had been heated and re heated. I did complain and received 10% discount of the food. Our main courses came without the starters plates being taken away. Just not a nice experience at over £100

So good points first. Hotel room was spotless and had a lovely bathing section within the room. Bed was very comfy too. We ate there and most of the meal was faultless. My partner had the haggis starter which was yummy followed by fish and chips which were delicious. The fish tasted so fresh!|I had the Cajun chicken crepe which tasted lovely but was swimming in oil from the melted cheese. Quite off putting which was a shame as the overall taste was so good. |So a couple of points to take into account. The bathroom area doesn’t have the normal wee samples of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel so make sure to bring your own. Also the soap was a cheap pump bottle of green soap, this would have looked much better dispensed into a black refillable bottle in keeping with the room’s colour scheme.|The main issue for us was that we were given The Douglas Suite, on entering it was indeed spotless but was so hot. We quickly realised that the main boiler is located in this room. Between the heat and the noise it really spoiled what should have been a restful night as the bed itself was super comfy. Even with the window open it was sweltering, the heat actually oozes through the door and the noise every time a guest runs water meant that very little sleep took place.|A boiler just shouldn’t be located in a bedroom for the above reasons.|We would return to this hotel but absolutely wouldn’t stay in that particular room again due to the heat and the noise.

First impressions are everything. Hotel is situated at the top of a very steep hill and is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. |Unfortunately We were Greeted by a man with a very offhand unfriendly manor , and it felt like he just couldn’t be bothered with us at all , we were Given the keys to our room , 2 flights of stairs up , at the front of hotel. Views were lovely but the rest was a bit of a let down. Very old windows needing replaced or at least the frames painted. The Bathroom was needing upgraded and the blind was threadbare. Old furniture with screws hanging out , which my husband caught his hand on twice and Just generally needing an upgrade in all areas. |However our worst issue was the noise during the night , there was clearly an issue with the roof something loose or broken and it banged and banged all night long in the wind. Yes the building is old but that’s basic maintenance especially when it’s keeping your guests awake all night long ! We mentioned it the next morning and it was just dismissed as tough luck ! We wouldn’t stay here again. It’s badly needing some TLC , as its rough round the edges when u look past the bling decor. Shame as it could be good but just doesn’t meet 4 star expectations.
