Mount Washington

Mount Washington is one of those places that really reminds you how unique Vancouver Island is. In a short drive, you go from the ocean to a true alpine environment, surrounded by snow, forests, and wide open views. On a clear winter day, the scenery up here is breathtaking. Snow-covered trees, rolling terrain, and long sightlines that stretch all the way out toward the ocean and distant horizons. That sea-to-sky contrast is something you don’t find in many places. I had the chance to grab a few aerial photos while I was up there for Vancouver Island Drones, and seeing the landscape from above really drives home just how special this part of the Island is. A beautiful place to slow down and take it all in.

For downhill skiing, there is a good mix of terrain for different levels. This is a great mountain for beginners and for kids. I mostly stick to the easier lift but there are other lifts that offer steeper terrain and more variety. This is my home mountain and I enjoy it every time! So great to get up in the alpine. They also have cross country skiing that I do sometimes. The trails are beautiful! And there is a tube run for those that don’t want to ski. They have great prices on beginner packages. In the lodge, there are a couple different food options. The fries are good but the burgers are outrageously priced. I recommend you stick to the fries and bring a bagged lunch. They also offer mountain biking and zip lining in the summer. Worth a check out for sure!

We went on a hike in Paradise Meadows and ended up at Battleship Lake, where we swam. It was lovely, and I highly recommend it. The hike is easy! Plenty of parking.

I took the bus for the first time. The way up was good. I arrived at Raven Lodge and I went to the booth to tell them I will take the 1pm bus back. They said, before 3 pm, you don't have to tell us... the buses will come to the Raven Lodge. They said the conductors doesn't like to get call. So, I went outside at 2:00 to wait the 2:15 bus... and at 2:30, it wasn't there yet. I called Mt Washington and they said: you need to tell us so they can call them so they can come pick you up at Raven Lodge. I went back to the booth, told them the situation. They tried to communicate with the Transport but nobody answered. I am a bit disapointed because I paid a bus season pass and I expected that the bus will follow the scheduale because I paid for this service. Mt Washington needs to get a better communication between the two lodges and also they need to offer the service that the customers have paid for.

Sick mountain. Some great runs coming off the top of the mountain here like West Basin and Top of the World Chutes. Definitely recommend those if you're an expert skier or snowboarder.

I love Mount Washington! I'm a skier, and I don't have a ton of experience, but there are plenty of runs I can do. The Hawk chairlift is best for beginners, and once you get comfortable on blue runs, you can go on the Eagle chairlift all the way to the top of the mountain and you'll have no trouble getting down. The staff in the main facility are friendly and very helpful. There is lots of space to get everything on before you head out on the mountain. Lots of excellent rental equipment is available. I took my first ski lesson at Mount Washington, and it brought me to the place where I was comfortable skiing, and the skills I learned have helped me to continue to grow as a skier. The mountain itself is beautiful, especially on a clear day. You can see so far, and all around the mountain! Mount Washington isn't particularly huge, but that means you can explore more of the mountain. I've also been to the mountain in September, and it's very beautiful with no snow on it as well. I highly recommend Mount Washington!

Worth the trip very scenic. MTB rentals look like fun.
