Highlights

A pioneer of Australian craft beer, Mountain Goat still operates out of their Richmond brewery. The much-loved staples are available on tap as well as limited editions and brewery-only trials. A range of pizzas, including vegetarian and gluten free, are available in a very casual, fun setting. Join a free brewery tour every Wednesday night at 6.30pm. Some nights food trucks are invited around - keep an eye on the Goat Facebook page for upcoming events. Mountain Goat has been a long-time supporter of live and local music and the local community. They are dedicated to sustainable environmental practices and even have an organic beer available. The staff are rewarded for days they come to work via alternative ways than driving and you can be rewarded too - ride to Goat, show the bar staff your helmet and be thanked with a free pot of your choice. If you really love breweries, you can even hold a function here on Saturdays - weddings are a particular favourite.

"Tucked away in the backstreets of North Richmond is the Mountain Goat brewery. Home to one of Melbourne’s most reputable craft beer labels, the brewery opens it’s doors for your enjoyment every Wednesday and Friday evening. The huge converted warehouse is divided into a spacious bar and seating area while the massive chrome gallons peak in through the brewery space where the magic happens. A glorious tower of slabs bearing the iconic goat logo sits atop a long bar offering all your favourite Mountain Goat brews on tap, while fairy lights are draped below the tall industrial ceiling and above a casual seating area. Enjoy a rocking house pizza with some of the best beers going around Melbourne in a truly unique setting." - Shelby De Fazio

Mountain Goat Brewery is a hidden gem in Richmond. If you're a beer enthusiast, you'll love the craft beers at Mountain Goat. They have an excellent range. Whether you're into hoppy ales, refreshing lagers, they've got something for everyone. The pizzas at Mountain Goat are a must-try and some of the best you'll find in Melbourne. The $10 pizzas on Wednesdays make it even better. Pair your favorite brew with a mouthwatering pizza, and you're in for a treat. The ex-warehouse setting adds to the charm. It's a relaxed and welcoming space where you can unwind with friends or enjoy a solo visit. So, if you're looking for a place to kick back, savor top-notch beer, and indulge in fantastic pizza, Mountain Goat is the spot to be!

Our first time visiting this amazing brewery and the experience was absolutely wonderful. My partner and I really like Mountain Goat beer and haven been wanting to visit here for a long time. Great beers and cocktails - love Helles Lager and Shirley’s Spritz! The pizzas are delicious, too. Amazing environment, staff and service. Will definitely come back.

I came to visit with my mum, her partner and my partner tonight. Was really impressed with the customer service shown by Tom behind the bar. We really felt welcomed made sure that the food was good and how we liked the beers. Would definitely recommend visiting this brewery such a great atmosphere. 10/10.

We went on Wednesday for the 10$ pizza night. The pizzas were delicious and a super high quality. The pork pizza was particularly good! The drinks were obviously great too. Even the non beer options I tried (Gin and tonic, tap cider) were really good.

This place is Melbourne's best kept secret, wow the venue is big and has a great atmosphere We had a mushroom veggie pizza.. Sorry no photos woofed it down so quick. We would give this place 10/10. They have a DJ playing great stuff, when we were there they had Melbourne's top DJ Marquee Moon. So much fun to groove to his tracks and amazing mixes on a Saturday arvo. The beers are a great selection..great Bar and extremely friendly staff. Will tell all our friends...parking is free. See ya there..

Yelp
A lovely space for craft brew with a great friendly knowledgeable staff. All the beers are their own and all beers are worth a try plus they have some locally brewed editions that you won't see canned so it's totally worth it to come here and try some new/altered stuff rather than just having draft versions. They have free brewery tours on Wednesdays 6:30pm, go for a ride!

Yelp
Mountain Goat is the 1st brewery I have been to in Melbourne. This brewery is Richmond based, and entirely 100% independently owned. And this place left me with high expectations for any other one that I will come across. Only open on Fridays and Wednesday's, I came here for one of their free brewery tours (6:30pm). Did I mention that they are free? Winning! We arrived early, and found a table. I knew exactly what I was coming here for; beer and pizza; such a beautiful combination. Taking advice from the bar-man, we ordered the pizza that had ham on it. Now, because the tour was going to be starting soon, we realized that we wouldn't have had enough time to down our drinks and our pizza. The staff were so kind, and delayed putting our pizza into the oven until we finished our tour. The tour was great! Very informative, you get to learn about their process, and how they go about beer the "goat way". The ham on the pizza was just a tiny bit too salty for my liking, but I won't hold that against them. I'll just self note it to myself to try something different the next time. This place got crowded as the night progressed. We saw some bicyclists come in, and even saw some families here enjoying their pizza. Side note: Their Steam Ale- it's organic!

Yelp
I love this Brewery. Such a great place to hang out and enjoy drinks and pizza with friends. My favourite pizzas are The Hussey and Fire in the Hole (without black olives, of course). It's hiding a little in the neighborhood, but still a manageable walk/stumble to and from the train stop. Give the place a try and I'm sure you'll find a beer that you'll enjoy. Note that the hours are limited so plan ahead.

Yelp
Great beer, great price, great atmosphere. What else could you want. They are only open Wed and Fri nights at 5pm, which is a bummer, but they are mostly a brewery. Get here early because it fills up fast and there is not a ton of seating. It is a little hard to get to unless you work around Richmond. Getting there are 5 on the dot is tricky. Trams from Flinders move at a snail's pace at that time of day and there are no trains nearby. However you arrange your transport, you will be happy once you get there. They always have pizza on offer, which is pretty good but not great. Bear in mind, though that I am an American, so my pizza judgements might be different than yours. I like pizza that is distinctively pizza, not pizza that is a collection of various toppings supported by mildly soggy flat bread. Don't get me wrong, the pizza at Mountain Goat is above average for this kind of pizza. But, your mileage may vary. The night I was there Meat Mother was also there serving food (Brisket & Pork sandwiches, wings). The wings were good and people seemed to enjoy the other food as well. I am interested to try the normal Meat Mother spot and try some of their food on their home turf. The beer is probably the best you can get in Melbourne. The pale ale is good and the night I was there, they had a Japanese Cowboy IPA, which was also distinctive and delicious. The Spring Ale was also surprisingly good.

Yelp
I have a soft spot in my heart for Mountain Goat beers. Melbourne-made and it was the first craft beer that converted this Melbourne girl into a beer lover. Steam Ale was the first beer I really started drinking for pleasure and opting for over wine and it's remained a bit of a favourite even as my tastes have expanded. The brewery itself is in Richmond and open to the public for brewery tours, beer and pizza on Wednesday and Fridays, then private functions on Saturdays. If you're a beer fan or even a bit of a curious novice, get in early to catch one of their passionate brewery tours. They pack a ton of information into tour and it's not too long so you can get stuck into the beer drinking sooner rather than later. The bar has all their regulars on tap, as well as featuring any new or limited edition beers. Great for trying something new every time. I wasn't expecting much from the pizzas at the brewery, the beer being enough to bring people in droves...BUT it's actually really good! They rock a good range of toppings and they're all fresh and delicious. The pulled pork pizza was inhaled the quickest. Great match for their refreshing, highly sessionable beers. Plenty of large tables around the place for groups, couches for closer chats - an all-round awesome spot for a catch up over beers. I would advise coming as early as possible though, as it does fill up fast and can get pretty noisy in the large open warehouse space. Not one for a quiet bevvy, but it's loads of fun and not so packed in that you can't move. Good for: groups, beer geeks, beer novices, pizza, brewery tours, functions, casual bar hangouts.

Yelp
Ever felt like having a beer after work within a brewery? Well if it's wednesday or friday here is your chance. On top of that they throw in a free brewery tour on wednesday at 6:30. ... and they make reasonable pizza as well

sam m.

Yelp
Mountain Goat changed the way I think about beer. I went on the brewery tour here a couple of years back and now I won't go near mass-produced lagers or preservative-laden piss. They operate the tours on Wednesday afternoons (6.30pm) and they will open your eyes to a new way of being. The bar here is also open for tastings on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5pm. You have to do a full tasting here. You may be familiar with the two main beers they produce and sell through decent local pubs, but they have several others on offer here and some of them are simply incredible. From time to time, they'll put one of their 'special' beers out as a limited-edition 'rare breed' longneck. The latest one was a coffee IPA and is pretty close to the best beer I've ever tasted. Mountain Goat make their beer local and source most ingredients as local a possible. If you love beer and live 'round here, you gotta get down there. Period.

Yelp
Let me start by saying ive been drinking mountain goat beer for a LONG time. It pains me to say that I only just visited their brewery. This should have happened a long time ago. But lets move on. I visited the brewery during good beer week, for the launch of their Abbey Collaby III. I got there pretty early as I had heard it gets pretty busy. As I was walking along the street, I smelt the malt and hops steaming out of the vents and I knew I was going to love it here. Smells like beer! I walked into the brewery and first thing I could see were the fermenters in the brewhouse. Shiny tanks of silver containing delicious delicious beer. There were couches, tables, chairs and the place had such a nice atmosphere. The bar itself was quite large and had on display a tonne of beer boxes along top of the bar. It looked really good. There is a large open area which was lit by pretty fairly lights and the place was just really nice. It was warm, toasty and smelt like beer brewing. I had a taste of a few of the beers on offer, which I hadn't had before and it pained me that I had to leave to go to another venue. The serve pizza which looks pretty delicious and suffice to say I will without a doubt be back. Really awesome space.

Yelp
Even though Mountain Goat Brewery is a little bit out of the way, it still very popular when they open up the "Goat Bar" on Friday nights! The space has a great atmosphere among the brewery machinery, with cool installations made out of slab boxes and fairy lights strewn throughout. They stock, of course, the well-loved Mountain Goat beers with their greatest hits on tap. There are also gourmet pizzas available for the peckish, an ideal beer food. Get in quick if you're in a group, because the tables get snagged quickly.

Yelp
I love the fact that you can get amazing beer, a great environment and some rocking pizza in one place. The Mountain Goat has some wonderful staff and the people here make the environment, such a relaxed place to drink and catch up. Always worth trying the brew in "Randy" there have been some really excellent combinations.

Yelp
I don't even know what to say... Delicious beer? PERFECT $8 pizza? Friendly staff? Uber cool interior (complete with cafe lights, grungy couches, and plenty of gas heaters)? Mouth-watering grazing plate (including the most complex and delicious aged cheddar I've ever had the pleasure to consume)? Check, check, check, check, aaaaand check. Oh-so-cool, great value for money, delicious food all-round. I heard these guys host wedding receptions... hmmmm...

Yelp
The place only opens 2 nights a week, Wednesday and Friday at 5, I was told to show up when they open the doors cause the place fills fast. This was good advice, by 6 the place was hopping and standing room only. Big open air warehouse with 40 high foot ceiling's couches, tables and some beer barrels acting as small tables. The breweries in clear view and walls covered with beer boxes. The music was great and not to loud and on this day they even had a taco truck parked inside, kick ass. Lots of bartenders behind the bar and everyone I talked knew about the beers. 11$ a pints not cheap but it didn't stop me from downing a few pints of the RyeIPA, I liked it and stuck to it. I left with a 10$ bomber of India Red Ale and a 15$ 4 pack of canned Fancy Pants that everyone else was drinking. It was kinda strange watching everyone drinking tasty craft beer out of a can at a brew pub but whatever. We were only there 2 hours and racked up a decent bill but had fun, the place was packed like sardines by 7 and there's plenty of space, popular place. I'd go back in a second and its just a short walk from Slowbeer so you can hit them both no problem.

Yelp
The first time I took my wife here she looked at the door leading into a loading dock and tole me I was crazy. Through that door is a different world. The loading dock has places to sit, places to leave bikes, beer to drink and pizza to eat. The pizza is great but this is a brewery and the beer is superb. I recommend a visit but if you don't want to stand them get there early.

Yelp
The Mountain Goat Brewery bar is quickly becoming one of my favourite Melbourne drinking holes. It has great atmosphere, very tasty beer and yummy pizza. I also have to recommend the cheese platter! There is something about the beer here that tastes fresher than from other bars. They have limited release beers on tap, which you need to try as they're always great. I would suggest getting there early if you want a table as they don't last long. If anything, more seats would improve the Goat bar experience. The bar staff seem genuinely happy to be working there and are knowledgeable about what they're serving. Prices are a little on the higher side, but nothing out of the ordinary for craft beers. Don't forget to grab a Rare Breed long neck take away on your way out.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! A group of us attended their free brewery tour after sampling some of their wares locally. The draft IPA filtered through coffee beans is a complete revelation. Unbelievably good, as are all of their other brews. Very good value cooked to order pizza is also available, in a nice relaxed and airy sociable environment. They really know their beer and have an infectious passion about their art. I highly recommend a visit!

Jiri S.

Yelp
Yes, I think my partiality is totally obvious. I fell for their IPA. I won't convince anyone of the truth when I throw in superlatives of the 'staff was great', and the 'place looks cool,' or 'they're so dedicated, these chums.' No, that won't do the trick. Yet I want to convince you of my truth. So I'll tell it. I came by on a Yelp Elite event (another of my biases). I'm Czech (a prejudice--judging all buds by the real thing that is Budweiser from Budweis, and all pilsners by Pilsner 12° from Pilsen). A microbrewery? Another one? So what's their story. You say, beer is just a recipe? Pas d'appellation d'origine? (you talk to the wrong guy who's also beer-drunk in BXL, for God's sake). Yet. They served me their IPA. And I won't tell you what happened. You try. All I'll tell is that you have only a few precious moments to savour the... emotions? And it is surprising, amazing. It taps memories. You'll feel like that ratatouille rat. And yes. Clever. These guys are clever. And if you want clever. Do yourself a favour. Come by. To this red-brick, high-clearance workshop neighbourhood. And get their IPA. And apart of this? They are great, the place is cool and they are oh so dedicated. Thank you. (or God bless Australia?) Post Scriptum: 'Goat'? Really? This is the real thing: www.kozel.cz. Pas d'appellation? Dah. You shine as a beacon. You are the recipe. Boggle on tap!

Jen S.

Yelp
I am giving Mountain Goat 5 stars for their brewery tour. They run free tours of their brewery on Wednesday nights. We had a great tour guide who was very knowledgeable and passionate. And just generally enthusiastic about beer. He didn't try to push Mountain Goat as 'the best' or 'the only' beer to drink, but was more focused on beer education in general. The one thing that would have made the experience better would be an opportunity for sampling the beers with the tour as well, instead of being left to purchase and share the beers individually at the bar at the end. I am a massive fan of brewery tours and sampling the products is a big part of the experience for me.

GT W.

Yelp
Sort of out in the middle of nowhere in an industrial park, Mt Goat is a very hip place where you get to drink right inside the brewery warehouse. They open later in the day (5pm) so we stopped by The Royston Hotel across the street for a few pints before going over. The interior is a large warehouse stuffed with brewing equipment like you'd expect but there is a bar, tables, and a large dining hall of sorts. Quickly gets crowded as this place has some sort of massive local following- lots of friends of the brewers and fans of the brewery excited for craft beer. The bar inside the brewery serves up some good food (pizza, sandwiches) and allows you to get samples of the beers. Many things on tap here are not bottled and are one-off batches. So it's definitely worth coming in to try some experimental stuff.

James S.

Yelp
Great place with awesome beer. Go after work some days and always pumping. Food is great too.

Jimmy P.

Yelp
Great place!!! The only two bad things are their 2 days of operation along with how busy it gets on Friday (nearly impossible to get a beer if you get there after 6).
