Mountain Hostel Gimmelwald

I absolutely love the Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald! The view is simply stunning; you feel surrounded by the mountains. The welcome is so warm—Janine, the owner, and the entire team are incredibly kind and generous. The food is a real treat, especially their amazing pizzas. The atmosphere is so cozy; you feel right at home. I’ve been there several times over the years, and every visit is a pure joy. I highly recommend it! 🌞✨🫶🏻

I stayed here for two nights and overall had a good experience. The hostel is set in a cozy chalet with an excellent location and incredible views. It feels warm and welcoming, and the pizza in the restaurant is good. One thing I really appreciated is that most beds have walls between them, which gives much better privacy and darkness than in a typical dorm. This makes sleeping much more comfortable. There are a few downsides though. If I understood correctly, there is only one small shared bathroom for the whole hostel, used by both men and women. This could be a bit tight when the hostel is fully booked. There are also only three sinks, which can cause some waiting in the morning. The shower setup is not ideal either, as the shower head holder is positioned around waist height, so you have to hold it by hand to wash your hair. Check-in during the evening can feel a bit rushed and chaotic, since the same staff also runs the restaurant and may be busy there at the same time. Lastly, not all beds seem to have the same level of comfort, which can feel a bit unfair depending on which one you get. Despite these points, it is a nice place with a good atmosphere.

If I could leave 10 stars I would. Breathtaking views in a breathtaking Country. Visited for 3 days with a family of 20 while my mom got married (The most beautiful backdrop imaginable) The staff was impeccable, sweet, gracious, and kind, especially to our crazy family. Delicious drinks, delicious food, all around a wonderful experience. I would recommend this place First to anyone who asks for a beautiful place to stay in Switzerland. 10/10 Experience!

A must stop in Gimmewald (this review is for the restaurant only). The views are fantastic — you're surrounded by mountains all around. We stopped by after paragliding and learned from our guide that the restaurant hosts fun themed nights, like 80s night, which was happening that evening. The pizza had a crispy crust and was delicious, and they serve a great selection of beers. This is a place we'd come back if we lived in the area.

Our stay at this mountain hostel in Switzerland was nothing short of unforgettable. Perched in what truly feels like the most beautiful place in the world, the views alone are worth the trip—but it was the experience inside that made it so special. We came with a large party, and the staff could not have been more gracious or accommodating. From the moment we arrived, they welcomed us with warmth, kindness, and a fun spirit that made us feel completely at home. The food was absolutely amazing as well. If you ever get the chance to visit, don’t hesitate—you’ll find breathtaking scenery, amazing food, and some of the kindest people you could hope to meet.

So far this has been my favourite hostel to stay at on this European trip. The hostel has stunning views. The common area inside is very social and outside has great views of the Alps. Staff were very helpful and food and drink was reasonably priced. There was also a very good kitchen and complimentary breakfast. The dorms could be a little cramped but I felt they were comfortable. The general vibe was that everyone would return in a heartbeat.

I recently attended a wedding at this beautiful venue. The staff were amazing. All the food and drinks were wonderful. Our entire group had a fabulous time. It felt like a cozy home mixed with a classy elegance. Thanks for making this once in a lifetime experience such a special celebration.

My friend and I stayed at the Mountain Hostel Gimmelwald and it was incredible. Mind you we had a private room so we were spoiled with the privacy (and view!!). However, we did share the bathrooms and showers which were kept clean. The staff here is so friendly, and the food (especially the pizza) is incredible. It is a journey to get here from the city, but totally worth it and is the reason why it's so peaceful. Stay as long as you can - we were there for 3 nights and I could've stayed longer. I was in Switzerland for 10 days and the ambiance and scenery at the Mountain Hostel was by far the best I have ever experienced in my life. We met people from all over the world and made new friends. The shared dorms did seem a bit rough to stay in because those we knew sleeping there said it was a bit stinky and loud with the snorers. They have earplugs available though. I definitely will be back someday in the future, until then I will be daydreaming of the mountains. I highly recommend the Mountain Hostel as a base to explore the Jungfrau region. Also while you're here, go paragliding with Airtime Paragliding in Mürren! It's just one cable car stop away :)
