Mountainside Cafe is a Must-Visit! I had the pleasure of visiting Mountainside Cafe today, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The moment you walk in, you're greeted with a wonderful, inviting vibe that sets the tone for a truly enjoyable meal. We tried the pulled chicken wrap and the avocado sandwich, and both were incredibly delicious. But it wasn't just the food that impressed; the service was absolutely tremendous—attentive, friendly, and efficient. And if you're a coffee lover, you have to try their cappuccino; it was tremendous, easily one of the best I've had. We also enjoyed their strawberry refresher drink. Honestly, everything about Mountainside Cafe was really good. If you're looking for a spot with great food, fantastic drinks, excellent service, and a super nice atmosphere in Connecticut, this is definitely the place to go. I can't wait to go back!

Google
Quaint, modern, breakfast and lunch spot with about a dozen tables and a small bar (without booze). Unusually good coffee and excellent muffin ...assuming you're not on a low-fat diet. Fast, friendly service. A bit pricey but worth it if you're looking for an upscale experience.

Google
This great restaurant sits right off the Appalachian Trail where locals and thru hikers sit and enjoy this farm to table concept. This spacious restaurant is tucked away in the woods . The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. We went with the Johnnie Cash skillet - melted cheese over eggs and home fries with bacon - just awesome. I also grabbed a cinnamon apple scone and it was melt in your mouth good - this place was just yum.

It's a nice cafe that we found near the Appalachian trail. The atmosphere and service were great. I had a chicken sandwich - a lot of flavor, delicious! I do wish they had more healthy and vegetarian options though.

Usually ice cold in the winter time. High ceilings And all heart surfaces don’t help. We love the first three times We enjoyed lunch, but then after that each successive time was worse than the previous time. Food is very good but Is served lukewarm instead of hot and after a very long wait.! In the beginning, the waiters were excellent and attentive and sharp and now the waiters are totally clueless, making numerous errors on orders. Today, the hot Appetizers, Including soup, Were served at Just about room temperature . We asked to reheat the Dishes. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes. Then, as soon as we finished the appetizers, our main meals came. Dessert was problem after problem and all we Wanted was a wanted was a few scoops of ice cream! Suggestions: have the waiters carry a pad and pencil so they can write down the orders accurately. Make sure the kitchen knows to serve hot food hot. Space the appetizers and main courses a bit so that customers are not bombarded with all the food at the same time. If possible, recruit more people in the kitchen to keep food flowing at a fair pace.

Another breakfast spot that I visited with my Wife on weekend. It had nice parking lot on the side. Place is not huge but its just big enough. We both ordered omelets. My Wife had one from the menu and I had two custom one with meat. We also had sausge on side. Everything came DELICIOUS. Omelets were huge, filled with meat and seasoned just perfect. Same with sausge, was really good. Coffee also was great. Pretty much everything was great including staff, that was nice, smiling and caring. WE DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

Yelp
Amazing spot to check out, especially after a nice hike! Both the smell when you walk in to the staff working, created a very welcoming environment. I ended up getting the steak sandwich w/ some of the best fries and garlic aioli. Only thing keeping me from 5 stars was the au jus, since it didn't have much flavor and was cold which I thought was odd.

Andi C.

Yelp
I have only fabulous things to say about Mountainside Cafe! The service is always friendly, food is delicious and the coffee hits just right! I always get the skillet breakfast, which the picture just doesn't do justice. You'll have to try it for yourself. The highlight for me - The vegetarian sausage is HOMEMADE!!!!

Gideon R.

Yelp
Food and service are excellent. And the staff are in recovery so let's help them out.

Yelp
My 1st time in the area and notice this little placed tucked away as we drove through. Due to horrible cell service, I took a screenshot on my map so I wouldn't miss this place on my way back. All I can say is YUM! I'm supposed to be mindful of my eating, but hey, when you get old, sometimes you need to just live more and worry less! I had the Streusel French Toast, my husband had some vegan meat breakfast sandwich and a side of pancakes. Sorry I can't remember the name of his sandwich, but the fact he ate vegan and loved it spoke volumes! He is a true carnivore. So glad we got to try this place. I can't wait for another visit there. Everything was amazing. Keep up the great work. Hope too see yall again!

Abbey B.

Yelp
Service was slow and we were not offered any refills until halfway through the meal. With that being said, it was all worth it once the food arrived. They really mean farm-to-table, because this was FRESH. From the burger to a simple breakfast plate, everything was great!

Russell C.

Yelp
Third time being here in the past 3 years. Excellent food and great service from friendly employees. The breakfast is good and so are the lunch items. The grilled cheese with jelly is terrific. I'm hiking the Appalachian Trail and this place has some awesome calories. The cheeseburger is definitely a good choice as well.

Elsie P.

Yelp
Such a great lunch spot, I recommend the turkey sandwich! We like to get food to go and the online mobile ordering is so easy. The inside is cute though! And everyone is so nice and it benefits a good cause :) win win!

Blake P.

Yelp
My breakfast was so good that I could cry right now. I almost stood up and clapped after I finished eating because I liked it so much. I got the John Wayne skillet and the maple latte...SO good.

Scott W.

Yelp
Had a really delicious lunch here. The brussel sprouts are fire! Avocado sandwich on homemade bread - wow. Salad with a house vinaigrette - so good. Really fresh, beautifully prepared and served with a big smile. Nice open space, modern and attractive. Highly recommend. Thank you!

Ally L.

Yelp
Best brunch in all of litchfield county. The menu is amazing and they gladly will make substitutions for things. They have vegan options, gluten free options and some yummy baked goods too. Don't walk, run here!

Cole D.

Yelp
Such a good meal. We were in a rush. If you're going to like rock, this place is awesome and right by you. Stop by for a great meal. The inside is really clean and neat. I wish I could've eaten inside. Nice ambiance. I got the beyond burger that was a decent price. Even to go it was so good. It was a nice pretzel bun. The top was a little charred, but still good. The sweet potato fries are money. Wow. The sauce it came with too yum. So good. About 10-15 min wait. Well worth it.

John C.

Yelp
Came it after a few days on the Appalachian trail... was tired, hungry and dirty. We asked to sit outside because of our state and we were immediately greeted with the nicest, sweetest and genuine people I've meet in years who welcomed us inside and took great care of us. It was so amazing to be treated so wonderfully after some hard days hiking. The food was great, but it was the people that made this place greater. I'm so appreciate of the hospitality and humanity we were given.

Misael C.

Yelp
If your on the go it's a place for: Great Coffee! Great scones & muffins! Friendly staff.

Jean L.

Yelp
Such an attractive place with great food, generous portions, and a wonderful staff. It's very busy on the weekend, but they manage to move people along, so the wait is manageable. Love this place.

Mary J.

Yelp
Our kids got turkey sandwiches which were HUGE and had a delicious garlic cheese sauce they dipped their fries in!! My beyond burger was phenomenal and juicy. When we got there we were told it would be a half hour wait, they were busy!!! But we barely waited 15 min. Our waiter was attentive and very nice. Loved the chalk board menu and the entire vibe of the place. Makes you feel right at home when you walk in. Definitely coming back here!!

Matt E.

Yelp
The food here is off the charts!!! The staff were so friendly, we arrived near closing and they were so nice to serve us and not make us feel rushed! Such a fun environment, indoor and outdoor seating! If you're passing by, totally worth the stop!!

Yu Y.

Yelp
They're just doing so great. I can guarantee that you won't regret visiting there. The food is amazing in the area nearby. I'd wish they provide food more quickly after ordering but the waiting time is still within appropriate range. The ambiance is super comfortable.

Katherine F.

Yelp
Best breakfast place. Best luncheon too. Great staff. Nice atmosphere. Needs more hours.

M M.

Yelp
Just lovely on every topic, from the setting and convenience to the people and quality of the food and preparation.

Gillian T.

Yelp
Delicious Vegan choices. Great London Fog tea. We loved it and can't wait to go back next time we are in the area.

Daniel J.

Yelp
Stopped here du For lunch during a Lime Rock park event. Food and service was excellent. Had a country burger and salad. Greens were very fresh and perfectly dressed with a lemon vinaigrette. Fries are the shoestring style also great. Burger was cooked perfectly. Took coffee and a brownie to go. Coffee is very good and the brownie was delicious. Next time we go, have to get the homemade ice cream sandwich. It is the size of your face. Wish I knew so I could have saved room.

Kathleen W.

Yelp
Just left there. Previously the service has been great and food exceptional. Today we waited over a hour for our food. Because we sat outside I specifically asked the server how will I know when it is ready. He told me they would bring it out to me. We waited and waited. After An hour and 10 minutes I got disgusted and went in. The food was sitting in a bag on the counter and the same guy who took the order acted like he knew nothing about it. Also my son asked specifically what was in a certain menu item and the server specifically said it contained egg. No egg in it when it arrived. I asked what kind of bread they had for toast and he rattled off various types including an English muffin, which I chose. It was $2.00 more with no butter included. Very expensive and disappointing meal especially since I tipped them 20% at the time I ordered. Won't go back for a long time.

Kathy B.

Yelp
We stopped in on our week road trip of Connecticut. Was well worth the stop. Obviously the locals know.

Lianna T.

Yelp
By far the best breakfast/brunch place in the area. Mountainside Cafe is the perfect place for a fresh, delicious start to the day. The restaurant has wooden interiors and big windows with a lot of natural light. The menu has many appealing options, but we settled on the goat cheese omelette with kale pesto and tomato. The food was fresh and a delicious combination of flavors. There are also an assortment of creative coffee options that combine mochas and other additions. We will definitely be back for many more breakfasts.

Melanie C.

Yelp
What a cute spot! Had an amazing salad and decided to add on the special cabbage tomato soup. What a blast from my past-just like eating a bowl of my grandmothers soup. Burgers and fries were amazing too. Coffee was spot on. Service was attentive from start to finish. Definitely stop if you're in the area.

Mollyann T.

Yelp
Our lunch was perfect!l My friends and I stopped at this lovely little restaurant on a scenic drive from Massachusetts with no idea of what it would be like. The restaurant is small but charming, white walls and lots of windows. It was just about full, but it wasn't noisy. One of us ordered the pancakes that were so fluffy and tasty they hardly needed the raspberry compote, which was so delicious that my friends used it all. My other friend and I had omelettes, the basil for her and the dill for me. They were perfect, served with crunchy home fries and hearty bread. The waitstaff was pleasant and responsive. I intend to return, in spite of the long drive.

Neal K.

Yelp
Mountainside is a reliable and delicious eatery along Route 7, just north of Lime Rock, in Falls Village. The menu is a bit limited which allows them to focus and execute well on the dishes they serve. Almost without fail, all items are excellent. Some of the best omelets I've ever had, and that's saying something. Burgers, etc all very reliable and tasty. Really good. The staff is warm and welcoming.

Katie O.

Yelp
Not as good as it used to be. Sad to say but they cater way to much the weekenders rather than those that live here all the time.

John D.

Yelp
Came here while driving around the area exploring and touring. Had some excellent sandwiches (myself the house-roasted turkey and my wife the prosciutto). Both were good sized and very fresh. The service was friendly and the atmosphere laid back. This really hit the spot while stopping off on our travels. Highly recommended.

Robert C.

Yelp
I arranged to meet two friends who were thru-hiking the AT there for lunch on Saturday. They texted me two hours early to say they were at the cafe. (I live 75 miles away.) I told them to grab breakfast and that we would still meet for lunch. When I got there they showed me pictures of the two breakfasts they each ate, so we drove to a store in Salisbury. Lunch was amazing. Definitely going back this summer with my family.

Jack C.

Yelp
The cafe is so cute! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful! But the best part is the food! My wife and I have been twice! The omelettes and the prosciutto sandwich were outstanding! On our most recent visit we had a breakfast wrap and pork belly grilled cheese...sooo good. We will be back soon!

Terrie H.

Yelp
Visiting the area and decided to try this place for breakfast. What a delightful treat. Hubby had the Streusel French Toast and it was incredible. Brioche soaked and covered with crunchy yummy topping-awesome. I had the Brie Omelet and was so impressed. The cherry tomatoes melted in my mouth. Sweet place in a lovely setting with very friendly staff. So happy we came today.

Diane W.

Yelp
Absolutely sublime brunch! I had the pesto omelette, my husband the apple pancakes. The entire experience exceeded all expectations. The staff were gracious and anxious to please. Only wish the music was a touch quieter. Over the top by a mile , thank you all. Diane W.

Paul R.

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast. The space has a nice feel and vibe and the omelettes very really good- as was my coffee and wives latte Was not too busy- but filled up quickly for a late Sunday breakfast Like lots of restaurants- they are experiencing a staffing shortage, so we ordered at counter and sat ourselves- no table service... no big deal- was nice experience and will be back, When we are in upper Litchfield county

William L.

Yelp
Food: We ordered the Johnny Cash Skillet, Hot Italian (on specials menu), House Salad, Kale and Sausage Soup, and Chocolate Chip Cookie. The Johnny Cash Skillet turned out to be more a scramble and a little bummed it didn't come out in a skillet. Regardless, it was solid, seemed healthy, and the fries that came with were nice and crispy. The Hot Italian was a sandwich that came on beautifully toasted bread, gooey cheese, and nice cuts of meat. I subbed my fries out for sweet potato fries and I was a big fan. The salad was beautiful and tasted as good as it looked and the soup was very flavorful with a lot of sausage bits. We finished the meal off with the cookie and it was the chunky crunchy type - might want to get something else if you like yours soft and chewy. Overall, we felt it was a well balanced meal with good portions. Experience: We went on a Saturday around 1:30 pm and it fairly busy. There were still open tables so we got set up there. The interior is super cute and has a real homey vibe to it. Service is good and the place is clean. Def worth a trip if you're in the area! Value: We thought it was fairly priced given the "farm-to-table" dining motto. The food certainly tasted fresh and they keep it simple yet delicious.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible service from the moment I walked into the small cafe. I got the impression they treat people how they look. We're now past being required to wear mask while standing. I walked in without a mask. Let me add, I'm a mature woman and felt very singled out. I was left standing at the door completely ignored by the help. There were 4, very obvious tables available. I had to ask if I could sit anywhere. It was just me. The "hostess" had to look around the very small cafe before finally pointing her finger to the table directly across from the entrance. I ordered the Johnny Cash skillet. It was totally unappealing. The entire skillet with exception to the toast (I wasn't offered jelly for it either) was way over cooked. The bacon inside the overcooked skillet was undercooked! I couldn't finish the meal. Back to treating people how they look. While I was seated, two young women without masks walk in and were given immediate service. It appears ageism discrimination is the vibe at the Mountainside Cafe. Or, perhaps although I was very well dressed, maybe I didn't look "rich" enough. Whatever it was for the lack of quality service, the appearances of how they regard customers as they walk in the door is disgraceful! For a small roadside cafe, they act very independent. I often pass the cafe. I've stopped in numerous times for both take out and sit down lunch. Since Covid, the vibe has become more concerned about customers appearances over treating each and every customer with respect and gratitude for their patronage. You can find other restaurants a town or 2 over with more appreciation for your business. Keep driving. Your stomach will thank you for it. We pay not just for the meal. We pay for the service. If you want to avoid stress and indigestion, pass up this roadside cafe.

Rick C.

Yelp
A very pretty location along route 7 in Falls Village. Fantastic ambiance walking in the door. I first noticed the menu on the chalkboard wall in the form of a peak. Excellent coffee... If you don't have excellent coffee, the restaurant will fail. I mean everything else can be marginal, but if the coffee is bad, forget about it. I had the veggie sausage English muffin sandwich. The pretzel bun, dressing, and sliced avocado were fantastic. The vegan sausage patty was awful! It was lentil mush with no flavor. Yuck. Lentils were falling out. I am panning this because for the price, they could easily have found a much better commercially produced vegan sausage patty. Think Beyond Meats or Impossible sausage. I actually think they mashed lentils and tried to make their own patty's... disgusting. No table service. I didn't like that. I tipped for service when I paid up front before the meal. First time here, so I didn't know how they were doing things. So the lack of service is supposedly due to Covid and staffing. Bus the tables and wear a mask then. I really didn't like this. It might as well have been a cafeteria. For a family of six, $119, we did all the work, and I tipped! Grrr, not a great experience.

Liz S.

Yelp
Mountainside Cafe is a hipster diner in the middle of nowhere, a minimalist cabin serving up omelettes and sandwiches for New York weekenders. I came with my boyfriend on our way back to the city for a light lunch. It was tough to get parking around 2 pm though the restaurant wasn't too crowded. The menu isn't huge-- a few sandwiches, soups, salads, and brunch items. Prices are Manhattan-style, maybe a touch lower. I went for a soup which was fine needed a bit of seasoning. My boyfriend had a classic caeser salad with anchovies, very good. They do have wifi and a couple people were tapping away on laptops, though it feels a bit more like a restaurant than a cafe to me as there's table service. Bathrooms are cute and clean. Service was good. It was quite cold inside in early winter. Probably the only place worth Instagramming for miles; worth a detour if in the area.

JC R.

Yelp
Enormous portions. Cute room. Nice service. A little expensive for breakfast, but also the only place to get breakfast for miles. In general, a high quality experience.

Arlene P.

Yelp
My friend and I had not seen nor heard from each other for 52 years. Mountainside was the half way point between our homes in CT and NY. What a wonderful staff. It was fairly busy with hikers and locals buzzing in and out, but we were served a wonderful lunch and they accommodated our sitting and catching up. In particular we would like to acknowledge our server, Brian who was not only friendly, helpful and very professional but dare say, please give him more hours (he is a gem) and give him a raise!! He was super. Will be back several times and next time we will have husbands accompanying us. Thanks!!!!!!!! Arlene Palmer

Kelly V.

Yelp
I'm driving along in the middle of no where.. about to lose all cell phone reception when I find Mountainside Cafe. What a gem! For starters - they have WiFi. I spent the last 20 in and out of service so that was a blessing when you have no clue where you are. Second - it's the cutest little place you've ever seen. Think chalk board menus/cottage decor. Third - the menu has a wide variety of items. You can stick to gourmet coffees and teas and pastries or go for the milkshake. If you're stopping by for lunch, like me, you'll find soups, salads, sandwiches . All served until 3:00pm. Examples include butternut squash soup, quinoa salad, prosciutto sandwich... I had the grilled chicken salad with citrus dressing. It was just perfect. My only complaint is the butternut squash soup was made with almond milk and it didn't indicate so on the menu. That's a big red flag for me! Overall somewhere I will stop again when I'm in the area.

Manu E.

Yelp
Food was amazing. The service is always phenomenal. I love going here they have the best French toast I've ever had.

Donna D.

Yelp
Mountainside Cafe turned out to be an excellent breakfast choice. The interior is bright and cheerful with rustic touches. The service was friendly and efficient. My husband enjoyed the peach parfait and the Western omelette was the best omelette I have had in a long time. The coffee was also very good. We would definitely return and highly recommend!

Nick C.

Yelp
Really amazing home style spot that serves many varieties of coffee and pastries. Mountainside is very clean and fresh tasting food.

Laurie W.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cute cafe and love it! The food is fresh and waitstaff is great. Apparently they are owned by a rehab center and part of the rehabilitation is to work at this cafe. I drive 45 minutes just to come here. There is also hiking trail across street.

Allie G.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, what a cute little place this is! It's tucked away if I didn't find them on yelp I never would have even known about it! First off the staff...nicest people on planet earth. A+++++++ for service. Prices are average to for a cute little hipster breakfast joint. We started off with iced drinks. I had the iced mocha turtle and my friend had an iced vanilla chai. Both delicious, they really hit the spot too since it was almost 100 degrees outside. For my breakfast I had an egg white omelette with peppers onions and mushrooms. And It came with fresh fruit and a multigrain toast. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. My friend and I also shared the streusel French toast. The flavor was good but it was such a thick slice of toast that it ended up being a little dry. Nothing extra maple syrup can't fix though!

Katherine L.

Yelp
Miss the old mountainside before it catered to the New Yorkers and not the locals still ok food price is high though

Vanessa B.

Yelp
Great Food and Coffee. The avocado sandwich and sweet potato fries are my go-to -but they have amazing specials each day. I love the latte menu too!

Adrienne A.

Yelp
Food is so great! Awesome specials and regular menu, lots of options and definetly gluten free/vegan friendly. Becca and Vanessa both helped us and we're very nice! The manager, Sarah is great too! Definetly the best place around to get breakfast/lunch!
