The Best Walking Tours in Edinburgh (Updated 2025)
"I recommend the Mountebank Comedy Walk run by Daniel Downie for a hilarious way to see Auld Reekie: you'll laugh and learn about Edinburgh and Scottish culture, history, and famous (and infamous) people, and if you're lucky Daniel’s dog Bonnie Prince might join the tour. The walk is highly rated (one of TripAdvisor’s Top 10 Things to Do in the UK) and prices start at 22 GBP." - Matthew Kepnes
Daniel’s walking tour was truly excellent and a great choice of a walking tour. He has an amazing knowledge of Scotland’s history and Edinburgh in general, and delivered so much interesting information in a fun and engaging way. Couldn’t recommend this comedy walking tour highly enough! We’ve been talking about it ever since and if you don’t do this tour, you’ve missed out big time. You’ll also need to do the tour to find out just what Daniel is demonstrating here… 🤣

I’ve done a multitude of walking tours around the world so when I saw the option for a comedic tour in place of a “normal one” I was slightly apprehensive. “Would we feel pressure to laugh at everything for 2 hours straight?” I thought to myself. But we chanced it and now I can say it’s by far the most memorable walking tour I’ve ever done. Not only is Daniel a whip smart historian, his witty crowd work and ability to remember bits and bobs about everyone on the tour and crack jokes was really endearing and kept everyone engaged through a dense amount of historical anecdotes about Scottish History and points of interest around Edinburgh. In addition, Daniel has an adorable doggie Bran who was a treat to have along for the walk 🥰

Daniel was entirely engaging, knowledgeable, entertaining, and passionate. He elicited a good balance of elucidation and group participation. We had a lot of laughs and learned new information about all things whiskey. Ten out of ten recommend.

My partner and I did this walking tour on our first day in Edinburgh to help keep us awake and get a general sense of the city. Daniel and his adorable dog Brahan were amazing and hilarious guides. The tour was informative (I learned so much!) and funny and just the right amount of activity for us. Thank you so much for a wonderful time.

Brilliant tour of Edinburgh. Very funny and eductional at the same time. Be prepared to be part of 'the show,' not for the easily offended, but for those with a good sense of humour. You will definitely learn and laugh a lot. Highly recommended
